The problem is they make the Two-handed Weapons for most classes too good or basically mandatory to use.
Would you mind elaborating on this?
Most one-handed weapons are limited to only being able to hit one target at a time while two-handed weapons are “AOE” weapons.
For Guardian’s the Greatsword is your highest single and AOE damage weapon while synergizing well with most builds. Warrior’s are in the same boat with their Greatsword as well, but they have more options available like akimbo Axes.

(0 10 15 30 15) is also a “standard” build for WvW and it doesn’t have AH.
Is it viable, yes. is it competitive, no.
This isnt about builds that some people play its about one trait that is mandatory for max performance.Its about meta builds and AH being that meta
Just a sidenote if you read OP you might find what i think of retaliation and posting a wet noodle build (I assume its vit/tough/pow thru and thru or clerics) with large health pool and retal stacked and at the same time have invested in VoC on rally but nothing invested in longer lasting consecrations or ranged consecrations just cant be taken seriously as a wvw build.
If its not a retalbuild please PM your traits and we can do the math compared to a AH build based on either raw dps or retal and ofc ability to support in general, preferably a 0/0/30/20/20..
As i said in a previous post, there is a difference between fun and effective and that build might be fun but its not meta., not for a retal build and not for builds in general.
Point of 15 in Radiance is for “Renewed Justice” and “Blind Exposure” with “Justice is Blind” if you play Guardian in melee train this is really useful. I’m Shout spec with rune of Soldier and “Superior Aria” , “Pure of voice” (POV don’t work all the time so i switch this sometimes) and 42% crit chance with “Empowering Might”. l use GS and Staff and i use crit food, venom and toughness/vit food.
You are right for consecrations, it’s op as hell but when you have 6 guardians in raid some of them have to be shout spec also for condition remove.
Also, i think Eng and Elementalist can bring more healing to raid then a guardians.
With Water Fields and Blast you have Area Healing and you don’t need 6 healing support guardians but just a few.
I’m not sure how much healing output Engi’s and Elementalist can put out, but the main advantage of Guardian healers is they can stand on the front lines and better support abilities (aoe stabilities, wall of reflection, sanctuary, wall of lining, empower, etc). You obviously don’t need 10 support classes, but coordination is what makes your support classes excel on the battlefield.

I mean, the saving point of the Guardian Mace is it can hit 3 targets and it has amazing healing output.
Man, the new patch really killed Spirit Weapons in PvE.
I can’t even use the Shield one anymore because it gets one shot constantly on boss fights (half the time as soon as it spawns). =/
Also, mobs keep targeting them and they’re soaking up group heals.

Well, obviously.
What people are reporting is there’s lower capacity on the maps. On the weekend I sat in queue for 2 hours twice and got in on a map that had only 40 players MAX on it and we were being spawn camped by a force double us.
How can you even remotely present this as ‘how it really is’?
You’re speculating to the extreme, nothing more.
Culling being a reason why people think their server has less capacity? Seriously?
What official message or data are you basing you assumptions on?
I agree many of the speculations about reduced capacity are assumptions without proof too, but you present theories that are just as unlikely and unsupported to be honest…
With Anet being silent we’re in the dark on the issue.
The queue bug doesn’t seem to affect all three servers in a match equally, so no matter how you stand on small or large scale fights it’ll have to be fixed.
If a guild is able to get say 40 (out of 50 allowed on map with bug or change) of their members in on one particular map than they have a massive advantage over a half and half right now.
It’s getting impossible to fight other guilds when you don’t have equal numbers coordinated on VOIP.

Threads like this make little sense. Half the servers have 0 queue time and this game had free transfers for months. Your guild can’t get into WvW and Arenanet is to blame?
No, the issue is #1. they either lowered how many players can be on the map and or #2. there’s a bug reducing the amount of players you can have.
Like, literally over the weekend I’ve sat in queues for multiple hours (which hasn’t happened since the game came out when I was on HoD) only to get in maps where it feels like we have 30 players.

SoS and SoR must have it easy this weekend on queues because we can hardly get half our guild members on the map (the other half being filled with militia or horrible commanders) and you guys are getting your monster zerg guilds cruise controlling around the map.
idk about other servers but this queue doesn’t affect our playtime with guildies as much as other servers.
If you’re lucky enough to get every guild member on the map with how it is bugged right now you have a huge advantage.
Honestly I think something is screwed up on JQ right now.
Since the reset I’ve been sitting in queue for literally 1 1/2 hours a map and when I get in there we have 40 players MAX on the entire map and it’s like we’re outmanned.
Are you guys on SoS and SoR having this problem?
I don’t understand this. I sat in queue for two hours and there was 40 people TOPS in the EB map on JQ side.

Don’t know but this is kitten me off I’ve been in queue for almost 2 hours now.
Shield is better team support → Protection and Projectile Blocking + AOE heal. Traited you get 24s cooldown Protection. Also, you can detonate the bubble for a decent sized AOE heal which is its main benefit.
The focus imho is better for personal survivability, but that 45s cooldown is really pushing it.
I like the Assassin’s reward trait. It heals me for about 100~ for each point of initiative I use and coupled with Lifesteal food + Signet of Malice (in PvE) you can get some pretty nice amounts of self-healing flowing in.
I use Hide in Shadows to remove boons.
They fixed Supershader not to lag you out.
It’s better than PoV in a healing build imo. 200ish/sec to everyone in party is nice.
My only gripe, and this basically applies to all Guardian heals, is that it has a short range. It’s pretty lame when I gimp my damage to get heals that don’t even hit half the party if they are ranged.
Well, it’s free passive healing for people around you. In most dungeons you’re usually near your party and in WvW you’re guaranteed to have people around you.
IMHO I rather have AH than Absolute Resolution. More toughness = better survivability.
Battle Presence is well worth it now though.
The only spirit weapon I ever used was the Shield in PvE because it made encounters SO much easier.
Is P/D more condition build? Right now I’m stacked mainly berserkers with vitality and toughness mixed in.
The few times I have gotten scorpion wire to work I’ve used it to pull enemy commanders into our zerg and it’s awesome.
Signet of Shadows on its own isn’t powerful, but when you use the Shortbow it makes you one the most mobile classes ingame.
It makes Thiefs great scouts in WvW. Commanders get all the glory, but scouts on VOIP help lead them to victory.
Role Number 2: Hold the line or Push , Guardian is the only class who has many area denial skills.
You need to play more professions, badly.

The only classes that have real area denial are the ones that can
lay multiple overlapping AoE that does huge dps.
Guardian area denial is for Hello Kitty.
He’s talking about Wall of Lining and Sanctuary. Both can literally halt entire enemy zergs in their tracks.
Coordinated Wall of Linings and Sanctuaries between multiple Guardian’s can make choke points unpassable. No other class in game has their power.
Keep in mind that GW2 is supposed to be tank and healer-free. I expect many of the tanks and healers in other games aren’t even trying GW2 or created a character with the understanding that they won’t be tanking or healing. And they’d be correct to do so.
There are other options for healer/tank wannabe’s, like elementalist, and that class certainly isn’t flooded with players.
There aren’t “pure” tanks or healers in this game, but certain combinations of skills, stats, and weapons synergize well to give you the effect of being a tank or healer in one.
Like, I’m a Support guardian (aka bunker) and I have +1400 healing, 16.2k HP, and 3300 armor.
I can’t “tank” by just standing there and using abilities like in other MMOs. I can “tank” because of my high toughness and when I use my mace symbols and other skills it pours so much healing on myself that I can out heal the incoming damage. I can’t be a “healer” because my heals are so short ranged and they have cooldowns.
Basically you become a jack of all, master of none when you go Support, but you give more to your team than a pure DPS, but you aren’t forced into it.

Only get Cleric’s armor if you’re primarily going to be a “tank” Guardian and you’re using the Mace as your primary weapon. With the mace every +100 healing is literally an extra +100 health per second when you factor in the Mace Regen, AH, and Writ.
With the Greatsword +healing is not that good because most of your healing comes from AH which doesn’t scale that well with +healing.
Battle Presence has been “fixed” this patch.
It now immediately reapplies after falling off on players around you (instead of a 2-3s delay) so it literally applies as fast as your own. Also, it’s “smart” and ignores targets that already have a friendly Battle Presence on them and picks ones that don’t.
Healing output is WAY up.
The problem with Guardians right now is their “full potential” is in support / healing builds in WvW. Pure DPS Guardian’s aren’t anymore special than Thiefs or Warriors in terms of front lining, but Support Guardian’s bring a powerful package to the battlefield.
Support Guardians = Boons, lots of group healing, “frontliner”, WoR, Sanctuary/Wall of Lining, and Tome of Courage. <- Huge group support capabilities in WvW.
DPS Guardian = Boons, no group healing, “frontliner”, pulls, and AOE damage. <- No different than any other DPS class.

Giver is NOT worth giving up the power.
Zerging has too many benefits in the current structure of WvW.
For the last month 1/2 I’ve been eagerly waiting for the new patch so I could actually play my 80 Thief in FOTM. My Guardian is currently @ lvl 32 and my Thief already has 20 AR.
I was disappointed to discover that doing FOTM 20 on my Thief (since they were lvl 1) did not give me the daily even though my Guardian is already @ 32. :/
So now I have no reason to play my Thief in FOTM because I don’t want to grind my thief all the way to the same rank as my Guardian and I can just grind to 40+ otherwise…
Can you please make it so the dailies are tired to your account and not your characters FOTM rank? I was really excited to play my Thief in FOTM.

I believe this was mentioned about 3 months ago, but does ANET have an ETA when they’re going to make it so you can rename your character?
Please make the amulets obtainable through FOTM or by buying stuff.

The monthly isn’t as bad, but I can’t stand these kitten jumping puzzles either. =/
Just because that…..maybe we could support better than a warrior doesnt mean that we should be funneled into support builds which many people seem to be suggesting.
And im pretty sure i compared with the ele btw……….
To me us being maybe better at support than a warrior does not disqualify us
from asking for improvements in areas such as better ranged weapon
or as suggested by this post, better control and stuff.Its like being able to support has become a bit of a bane of our class.

But your a support class, go support.
You aren’t funneled into being a support class, but the FULL WvW potential of Guardian’s are in support builds. I’ve been there when the game came out and guilds were roaming around with 4-6 support Guardian’s doing coordinated wall of reflections, sanctuaries, walls of linings, stabilities, and tomes while beasting out heals to everyone. It makes your zerg into an iron juggernaut.
People seem to think since there’s no trinity in this game that it’s all about throwing numbers around.
Also, Guardian healing is leaps better than Warriors. Mace symbol + Writ + heal on dodge roll + Battle Presence.

Mug has a 45 second cooldown. =/
The Shortbow is one of my favorite ranged weapons in game. It has 900 range, but being able to bounce around to multiple targets makes it great for PvE and PvP. Cluster bombs also hits for some good numbers (I see 3.5-4k crit’s all the time) and poison cloud is useful for area denial.
You also have to realize we’re primarily intended as a close-range class so if we had 1200 range then what’d be the point of a ranger?
So I’m currently D/D with SB Secondary and in WvW I just can’t put up with it anymore.
1. Even with 50% increased speed in stealth I have a hard time getting behind people to actually backstab them. I either have to Venom Touch or root them.
2. Most people know how to play and dodge roll when I go stealth near them.
3. 95% of the time I end up having to use the Shortbow because the enemy is so bunched up or they’re far away in zergs.
4. I end up just using HS because of the issues getting behind people.
Is P/D or P/P much better in WvW? I have a Guardian as well and people run from me, but my Staff is good enough to hit them. :/

Tell your commander to learn how to counter trebs. Its fine to be asked to do it for a few minutes while they go and take it out. 30+ minutes though i would just walk away and blame the commander for being incompetent.
It’s no different than being dedicated scouts. These guys end up being stuck there for hours on end.
this is just beyond stupid.
IF you’re blocking treb shots for over 10 minutes your server is doing something wrong. There isn’t a spot you can put a treb that you can’t take down. Stone Mist second floor can be trebbed, and ballista’d
IF you’re server can’t organize after 10 minutes then they are doing something wrong and you’re just wasting time sitting there defending a tower that will still be lost.
the Swirling skill is great for counter trebbing and protecting siege to -take down- their siege. If you need quick protection for a minute or two it’s great other than that, I would never sit an ele by a wall for defense.
It’s called priorities. Putting an Ele to block treb shots is putting a bandaid over the problem until you can get to it.
Literally there’s been times where I’m in Teamspeak with a named guild and we have to play firemen on the map going to defend two towers back to back, re-cap three camps, and then go and kill the treb.
I can feel a lot of the normal grind burnout that a lot of these other players are feeling.
This is what brought down the Titan Alliance FYI.

I think what he was originally saying it’s nice to be able to enjoy the game and not burn himself out on trying to handle everything in wvw as a guild. It’s allowing us to enjoy other aspects of the game we normally haven’t been able to enjoy when we were on low population servers.
Well, that’s the reason why I choose to freelance atm because of my schedule and or my mood. Being in a hardcore WvW guild is basically like being in a WoW raiding guild.

Lets see now. Looking at the first time SoS won in T1, to now; SoS has won 9 of the 10 matches. And now because we are trying to even things up, it’s “bad” for wvw.
Is that an accurate summary Ohai? What did I miss?And all the matches SoS won in Tier 1 have been really close. How is adding 2000+ people to your server in 2 weeks evening things out? Does it look even to you? A few guilds transferring over would have evened it out, not a massive amount. BG and SoS only have a remote chance of catching up now and chances are JQ will continue this slaughter. I’m hoping SoS does get bumped down to Tier 2 and we lose some guilds to transfers so we can have a more balanced matchup there. I don’t recall SoS ever having a 25k lead on JQ by Monday.
The notion that SoS always had “more coverage” is baseless. There is absolutely no proof we ever had more coverage. SoS had ZERO EU guilds (we have 1 now). We had a massive coverage gap during EU time. We won PPT in NA (usually) and SEA time (almost always). We never (and still don’t, it’s worse now as we are outmanned on most maps) have queues on more than 1 map except during reset night. I’m pretty sure our coverage was always equal to JQ’s, we had better Oceanic coverage and you guys had better EU.
Since the end of free server transfers have been announced matches have been completely one sided on all but the bottom tiers. It’s going to take weeks (at least a month or two) for this to balance out, and by then I wonder what the WvW population will be likely when servers get sick of either completely dominating in their matchup or getting destroyed by stacked servers as they climb up to their appropriate tier.
You’re missing three things.
1. They raised the server cap limit which allowed a large influx of guilds and players into Tier 1. I was on SoS (now JQ because I liked playing with PRX before they went EU) and there’s actually queues now on many of the maps. This hasn’t been the case for the last several months.
2. They are implementing paid transfers so some of the guilds that transferred to the EU went back to the USA.
3. Guilds that transferred to T1 are helping to fill the “map gaps” and they can become fire men when needed.
This weekend was an aussie holiday so there wasn’t a MERC insight and they were also pulling double shifts. They needed a break.
There’s nothing you can really do to prevent zerging because the entire aspect of WvW is designed around it.
sPvP has the same problem with “mini-zerging” as well.
Habib can we get an official statement on Anet’s stance in regards to guilds purposely abusing culling? I’m not talking about just portal bombs, but I’m talking stuff like using shadow refuge’s to stealth entire raids and then running right into the middle of other groups.
Literally it’s getting to the point where the competitive nature of the game is becoming more of who’s zerg can stealth + portal who the fastest.
I’m ashamed we are even giving this tired culling issue (portal bombing/mass stealth, OP thieves) recognition still. Whether it is unethical or illegal or immoral (lol) is simply up to taste at this point.
This kind of crap never happened when Titan Alliance was around. Some guilds used portals to get behind groups, but no guilds actively tried to abuse it around every corner like I’ve been seeing today.
Tactical portal bombs is a viable strategy, but using Shadow Refuge’s to stealth your whole raid non-stop really means you’re out for abusing culling.
The bottom line is.
Will this fix the current system where portal bombing and going stealth makes you invisible?
Same here! I’m hoping to get some advice for a Healing/Toughness/Vitality(I know this probably doesn’t exist for gear stats) focused support Guardian, and could use any help I can get!

This is the same problem that happened with SWTOR. They launched the game with more servers than it really needed, but at least they were smart and put in free transfers.
Server queues aren’t fun. You should be able to play on any server you want.
