Lorella Windrunner – 80 Thief
Shayera Nightfall – 80 Mesmer
Quickness in PvP is too ridiculous at the moment. Watch them Thiefs and Warriors full life you before you know it.
It’s like the Elves in Dragon Age. Due to LOTR + DnD lore you have the expectations that Elves are all powerful, but then you see them in DA as a slave race and its a nice twist.
I’m leveling a warrior and I’m using Greatsword + Double Axes. The Greatsword really feels like its being forced on you because it has the best AOE dmg AND its single target DPS is good.
Yeah, 8k kill shots on 3300 armor should not happen.
Fix that please.
Do people not like Monday’s?
I logged on yesterday. SoS, 6 PM EST. Nobody in any map except EB. It was so bad I couldn’t even get into an overflow with 3 other people from different servers to start FOTM.
Today, I log on same time. Magically we have people on and control a decent portion of EB.
My Guardian can almost solo that event if I time my cooldowns right.
My best was 0-68% by myself.
Constant run speed buff up + heal on dodge roll + weapon swap endurance return = win.
You can’t really take Aegis anywhere else without turning the Guardian into an actual Tanking class. It’s great in PvE. Mace #3 ftw.
You’re soft dulfy, you should have made a list of all the exploits so we don’t have to teach the newcomers.
So, yeah. It’s Monday. 2 minutes till 7 PM EST which is prime time USA.
Tried making a FOTM 30 group to do daily on my own server. Could only find one person after 10 minutes.
So I made a post on gw2lfg and got people from IoJ, JQ, and Dark Haven to fill the rest of the party. NONE of us could get into an overflow.
People were actually PMing me to try and get into overflows. I asked other people if they could overflow and they couldn’t.
So now we can’t do FOTM. Please fix this. I just logged off for the night.
what up SoS, 3 waypoints in yo crib!
I blame it on conspiracy theories. Nah, I blame it on Mondays. Wait, 2v1’s.
Actually, I blame it on WvW February patch that needs to be here already so we can get WvW back to what it use to be (in terms of player attendance). It’s getting pathetic that servers that are listed as ***FULL*** can only manage to get players on 1 map.

BG has been in T1 before and bombed out within a couple weeks… nothing will be different.
Considering how many guilds have come and gone? =/
What’s really unfortunate this week, is SBI is putting zero pressure on SOS BL. For what numbers SBI is fielding, it’s all being focused in; JQ, EB, and SBI’s home BL.
Each Tier 1 has one map that has dead coverage.
Virtually no map presence for SBI what-so-ever on SOS BL. It’s giving SOS way too much leeway, and artificially bolstering SOS’s score higher than it should be had SBI’s coverage been more evenly spread across the BLs.
That’s how WvW is. It’s about who has the most players on x map at x time.
As it stands now JQ and SBI are both in a bad position this week having to take on 2 servers each, while SOS is only having to contend with 1. JQ is simply loosing too many points during NA primetime, while SOS’s score is being padded due to SBI’s inaction towards them.
I logged on my Guardian last night and flipped on the commander icon from 5 PM EST to 9 PM EST. (I’m on SoS, names Sha Nari).
SBI was trebbing the northern walls of SM. They kept the walls down for quite a while and about three or fours times JQ slipped through with about 30 guys. They would proceed to run along the outer wall killing siege and doing absolutely nothing else after that to the point we were asking if JQ even know what they were doing. You weren’t even making any serious attempts to break through the inner gates.
SBI was on the map with outmanned buff, but their stuff was so upgraded and they were so far behind on score that it was pointless to stir up the bees nest. They showed up TWICE in 4 hours to attack the same tower with 7 golems, but they didn’t have the numbers to break down the door and stop us from getting to them in time.
So yeah, we focused entirely on JQ last night because at different times they were ahead of us on score or slightly behind us. Also, it was the only way to take the initiative from you guys so you would stop attacking us. We stole two towers on your side of the map and went after you inner keep, but your tenacity and determination kept us from capturing them.
You had the opportunity to take SM many times, but you left us scratching our heads.

SoS – instant except for EB and Home Map on Prime Time, but it’s usually a 20 minute wait.
3 months ago – 1 hours++.
WvW (even Tier 1) is suffering from player attrition right now.
When the game came out (and for the months after) all WvW maps use to be slammed full 24/7. I remember waiting 2 1/2 hours just to get in.
Now it is instant except for EB on prime time. It’s not uncommon for 1 map to have no coverage from your own server.
Dat graphics setting.
Changed a few patches ago.
Thief cooldowns suck. It’s like COOL wait 20s so I can stealth for 2s, but then everything aggros you again.
They have 2 spammable cripples and an auto-attack that inflicts cripple.
Just to expand on that though, they can easily have passive +25% movement speed, and +50% movement speed while stealthed. Plus, every possible melee weapon set they have contains a spammable gap closer. Actually, the only set they could have without a spammable gap closer is with main-hand Pistol.
Both classes have their advantages and disadvantages.
I play Dagger + Dagger and Shortbow. The only cripples I have are Dancing Dagger (costs 4 initiative — which is 1/3rd my resources) that lasts 5 seconds and Disabling shot (which isn’t a real snare, its an escape ability). I can use traps and venoms, but they last so short and are a waste of skills.
My gap closer is Shadowstep which has a 45s cooldown and I have two stealths that I can use to get up behind my targets. I also have 25% run speed signet.
Yet, even with all these tools half of the time I’m sitting there chasing people around because to do my maximum damage I have to be BEHIND them. The only other option I can do is just sit there and faceroll Heartseeker.
The reason why there aren’t spammable slows (cough 12s slows in SWTOR cough) is because they want to give you a reason to switch weapons.
If the target is out range from your greatsword then switch to a staff or scepter.
I love Bowl of Lemongrass. Saves your butt in WvW when trying to run away.
They should just make the staff symbol last as long as the cooldown. :/
You have to take note that a lot of a Guardian’s ability to tank comes from their ability to heal themselves. Going pure vitality + toughness will give you nice hp, but if you have +0 healing you are just going to be a mattress.
Balance what you feel is comfortable.
Doesn’t healing power scale pretty badly anyway?
It scales just fine. Here is an example.
Every +500 healing.
So under ideal conditions with the mace you’re healing yourself for 100 extra health a second for each +100 points of +healing. If you have +1500 that’s +1500 health per second.
If you’re running around with just the Greatsword though than it is basically useless though.

Thiefs only have one spammable cripple and its with the Shortbow. It’s more of a head ache when you’re trying to get behind people to backstab them.

It is true, you are not a true healer.
You however can be a tank, a healer, and a DPS all in one.
It’s better than being a true healer.
Sanctuary is weird sometimes. Most of the time it works, but other times I’ve watched entire enemy zergs walk through it and nothing happen. Also, how Sanctuary works is you have to move your character to actually gets it effect even if its on you because if you get rooted as you cast Sanctuary you aren’t actually under its effect and people can still hit you.

^ swap out Wall of Reflection to whatever ability makes the encounter easier.
Good players makes dungeons easier.
This is my WvW “support” build. http://www.guildhead.com/skill-calc#mcc9ombNC0mbNC9cxxaVmqckbc
Survivability wise, simply amazing. You want to stack toughess, healing power, and vitality. Atm with 25 stacks of +healing I have 1460 healing, 16.5k hp, and about 3250 armor.
I use mace + staff and I switch between both constantly. Use the mace to place down symbols on friendly players that are grouped up — look primarily for downed players — and switch to your staff and use your symbol (it heals for decent amount with writ) then use staff empower. Basically switch back and forth. Use your staff as your main weapon in order to tag and attack players.
Wall of reflection is the bread and butter of your build. Run up your opponents, BE RIGHT IN THEIR FACES, and use it. Enemy players always instinctively target the closest player and you can reflect huge amounts of damage.
Stand your ground is your “oh crap” button. It breaks stuns and gives stability, but it is also useful for retaliation if you want to damage players as well.
Sanctuary is your jack of all tool. Use it on downed players to res them or run up in front of enemy zergs and use it on yourself after a Wall of Reflection. The enemy will be so focused on trying to kill you that they’ll divert their attention off the players behind you. Also, you can use it to block off choke points followed up with a wall of lining.
Self-healing wise (+1450 healing) and AH you have EXTREMELY good self-healing. Your full staff duration can heal you for 3/4ths your life and your mace can heal you good for good numbers as well. Play on the front lines, take the hits, and then roll back and drop a mace symbol or staff heal yourself.
Seflless daring (heals yourself and players near you when you roll) is extremely good. It heals for about 1200-1400, but two rolls gives you a good amount of health back. Play smart with it and roll into players that need heals or use it to top yourself off when backing away from the front lines. You’re almost guaranteed to have endurance regeneration up from other players.
You give up your DPS, but you can tag players for kills with wall of reflection and your staff. You aren’t a healer, don’t play as one. You’re a DPS, a tank, and a healer. Be flexible.

I have an 80 thief and 80 guardian. My thief is squishier than my Guardian and her main survivability comes from short cooldown abilities to survive. My Guardian doesn’t have the same mobility, but can take WAY more of a pounding and still limp away and come back for more seconds later.
My thief has basically crap for self-healing. I have to play a lot smarter. My guardian has 10 times more self healing + passive survivability and I can play a lot more aggressive. I can actually rush right in front of 20 enemy players, put my wall of reflection down right in their faces, and watch them kill themselves.
Guardian’s are a lot more self sufficient and can have almost infinite battle endurance under the right conditions.
Our classes main weakness is we’re basically sitting ducks when our stuff is on cooldowns. If I blow my big heal and virtues to survive in an emergency I’m basically defenseless until they come back up. My thief always has something up in comparison, but no passive self-healing.
Guardian’s can be incredibly powerful in the support role in WvW if they choose to build for it, but 95% of the Guardian’s I see out there are 2-handed builds.
Frontline support Guardian’s are one of the most powerful classes ingame in WvW.
You can stack a ton of toughness and vitality, but you’re just hurting yourself if you don’t put any healing power in there.
My Guardian has 16k HP, 3300 armor, and +1400 healing and I can out-tank any Guardian with 20k HP, 4k armor, and +0 healing.
Spirit Shield is extremely handy to use on many fights in PvE. It’s basically 20 seconds of projectile immunity. The only downsize is the cooldown starts after the shield disappears.
I haven’t tried it in WvW though because I use WoR instead.
Guardian Greatsword is leaps more fun (literally) than the Warriors.
AH got a hit for Two-handed melee Guardians, but its still pretty broken when it comes to the Mace and Staff.
Backstab can hit for big numbers, but if your target is running around you can hardly get behind them to use it.
I just leveled my Thief to 80 the other. I was stacked on tokens + extra FOTM rings so I was fully geared out the same day.
I’ve been playing D/D and SB in PvP. Played around with the backstab build in WvW for a while. Here’s my thoughts.
WvW is getting stale. All of the guilds I use to play with on SoS are gone or don’t log on which kills my reason for even doing WvW. Tier 1 is just DEAD compared to what it use to be a few months ago. Also, the same cheapo tactics over and over get repetitive; it’s like playing whack-the-Treb 24/7.
I’m hoping the patch next month can revitalize WvW because you can only do FOTM and level so many characters to 80 (and then have them fully geared out to 20 AR because of rings galore which makes doing FOTM pointless).
Not complaining though. Now I have a reason to study for 2-3 hours a night.
(edited by ComeAndSee.1356)
I’m about to hit 80 on my Thief and I’m going D/D. I’m just wondering what stats I shoot should for with gear?
Power;
Critical Damage / Critical Chance;
Vitality/Toughness;
Other Stats;
thanks.
Sorry to burst your bubble, but people skipped trash in WoW too. Also, when I played Aion online people use to skip trash all the way to the last boss in the dungeons.
Players are like electricity, they always try and find the route of least resistance.
You don’t “need” AR, but you’re making the encounters much more difficult if you don’t have the required level.
I have an i5 2500k and a 6950 HD and I can run game max settings (except shader) even in WvW without any FPS issues.
When the game came out the zones were slammed full of players, but after making a new character they’re ghost towns.
Please overflow the low level zones!
Griefing isn’t PvP nor is it competitive.
Here’s a trick I’ve been using …
Do the dungeon on your lvl 80 and when the last boss is at 15% log off and log on your alt and zone into the dungeon and you get credit on your alt.
Just make sure you’re not the instance host or you’ll kick everyone out and make them angry.
You need 10 AR after 10 and 20 AR after 20.
You guys have to remember why they are so easy.
1. There’s no trinity so the difficulty bar has to be low because it’s about personal survivability.
2. Group composition has to be not important. I’ve run groups with 4 thiefs + my Guardian and still completed them.
3. Dungeons have to be tuned for people in greens and blues.
Also, people end up skipping the majority of trash because they want quick in and outs.
It honestly depends on what you want to do. I use this in WvW because I play more “support”.

If you want to go for more personal survivability than this build is good for sPvP.
