Lorella Windrunner – 80 Thief
Shayera Nightfall – 80 Mesmer

If Anet is like how Bioware was with SWTOR they focus more on fixing exploits than punishing the people actually doing them. They basically deny it or tell people that it’ll be fixed in an upcoming patch so it isn’t worth their time punishing somebody if its going to be fixed by then. They only took action against speed hacks, economic exploiters, and bots, but everything else was “fine” until they fixed it.
That is probably (90% sure) why there isn’t a option to report people for exploiting / cheating. They’re too afraid to whip out the ban button because it can damage their public image and lose subscribers (i.e. money).
It’s funny though. Bioware and Anet both police their forums with an iron fist.

That dodge roll heal could be abused if you had high healing. If you put in your main + off-hand 50% endurance return you could heal yourself for 5k (while evading) every 10s. I use to do it in WvW with like 5 people chasing me around and they couldn’t kill me unless they cc spammed me to death.
They nerfed the boon duration runes as well and nerfed Guardian shield protection to last half as long because with monk + water + protection runes you could have 100% uptime on protection. It was Save Yourself + Hold The Line + Shield + Rolling Around in your Symbols = lol.

Thief
OMG 20k damage using all utilities, so once every 45 seconds, with steal-cnd-backstab from melee range and has to hit in the back to pull off that damage. Forum rages calls for nerfs.Warrior
20k damage, not melee but 1500 range no less, once every 45 seconds i’d guess to charge up the adrenaline, no specific angle required. Forum mentions it but who cares right. Warriors should only get buffs.kitten?
I didn’t ever mind backstab, still don’t. I don’t particularly mind this either. However get some consistency, if backstab rotations are broken this is too, perhaps even more so.
It’s always in gigantic bursts with these classes. Thief jumps you. 6k backstab then hasted HS face roll spam 3.5k, 4k, and 5k and vanish. 100% to 0% before you even know WTF hit you. This is with HIGH armor FYI.
It really comes down to toughness not scaling 1:1 against crit damage, damage bonus multipliers, vulnerabilities, and might bonuses.
I honestly don’t get hit more than 4k from siege and no other class but thiefs and warriors hit me for over 5k. I’ve never been bursted down by engineers, necros, mesmers, rangers, guardians, and elemantalist, but I’ve bursted down by thiefs and warriors numerous times.
All it takes is a Warrior catching you with your pants down and they can offload a 12-15k hundred blades + blade trail + whirlwind combo in 2s.

Only way for SoS to survive is they have to earn enough points in US prime time to survive the night.
I’ve been crit for 9.7k Kill Shot with 3,200 armor.
Also, WvW is mass chaos. You don’t have a radar showing the dude behind twenty others is about to nuke you for half your HP.
It’s no different than people saying “lol dodge” when you’re being root / slow spammed and two warriors jump you and haste hundred blades.
Hi everyone,
There has been some chat of exploits and acussations as usual going on here. Please refrain from that behaviour as it is punishable. If you suspect someone from cheating or hacking, use the in game report tool but refrain from bringing the discussion here.
Thanks
There’s no drop down option to report people for exploiting or cheating.

SWTOR went f2p and it’s not even f2p. You have to spend equivalent to $60 to play the endgame.
I don’t understand why there’s no drop down option to report players for exploiting/cheating. Anyway good matches this weekend. A lot of guilds stepping up and hopping around different maps.
For Tier 1 its still sad to see outmanned buffs. This wasn’t the case a month ago.

@ComeAndSee: Generic faces with less plant features? But sylvari ARE plants. They imitate humanoid form to some extend, but they are plants. Asking them to be less plant is like asking charr to be less charr. Ofc. you mean something along the lines as some of the faces we already where there is just some subtle leafy texture at the edges of t
I meant more “clean” human / elvish faces. Right now Sylvari Females have one “normal” looking face that doesn’t have big disney eyes.
This is no Im-the-teacher-and-you-are-the-pupil-respond. I just want to help out and protect structured pvp in gw2. I have rarely seen another mmo-rpg, even just an mmo, which has such a good approach to balance. Gw2 is really good, and the more you cry the bigger the chance this game will become a wow-clone.
GW2 is far away from being eSport worthy at the moment. We’re going to need several patches before we can even think about it.
SWTOR (a great PvP game) had a lot of burst issues early like this game, but after several patches they really ironed out the gameplay. Battles were always consistent length without excessive burst and you needed perfect synergy in your group composition to win. Getting a proper build that had balance between damage and survivability was a constant struggle.
(edited by ComeAndSee.1356)
Also, the problem with burst damage right now has to do with toughness not scaling properly against power, might, critical damage, vulnerability, and +damage% boosts. You can literally stack 100% toughness gear, traits, and food and still be hit for excessive amounts of damage in short periods of times.
This is literally the only MMO I’ve played where you’re allowed to get 50++% crit chances and 75% crit damage without any diminishing returns. Almost everyone is able to pop out those stats while running around in high toughness.
I mean, once you eat your first 10k+ Kill Shot you just shake your head and wonder what was in Anets head.

I’m leveling a thief right now and so far they are the most mobile class I’ve played so far. You are rewarded very well if you move around your targets and many of your abilities do it automatically for you. I would have to say the Thief class is the only class that isn’t “throttled” back and that’s why they are so powerful in the right hands.
Playing my Guardian in comparison is dumbed down. You push your buttons on cooldown for maximum damage and your survivability is activating 30s++ cooldown abilities that last only 5 seconds. You don’t have to move around likes thiefs to survive, you just soak it up.
Damage wise nothing beats thiefs right now. I’m a “bunker” Guardian and a Thief can open me up like a can opener dropping 4-6k crits back to back in a short span while being invisible to me half the time.
You have very high toughness, but your survivability is extremely limited by low vitality and +healing.
It’s really about finding that proper equilibrium. If you play with the Mace and stack +healing you can self-regen yourself a lot to the point you never have to use your big heal except in emergencies.
Toughness right now isn’t scaling properly in regards to power and critical damage bonuses because even if you reduced their damage by 50% it’s still high numbers. I have numerous screenshots ranging from 9.4k Kill Shots to 6.8k Backstabs + Eviscerates while having 3,200 armor. Numerous times I’ve been literally instant gibbed by Warriors and Thiefs in a matter of seconds by them popping haste.
I play a “bunker” Guardian stacked Vitality, Toughness, and Healing Power and sometimes I just feel like a cardboard box. There’s only so much your build + stats can protect you.
Also, what is ridiculous is the huge hits are all coming from physical abilities. Literally every other class in game outside of Warriors and Thiefs doesn’t hit me for more than 4k including siege weapons.
It’s like we’re in a situation where those who stack high on offensive stats gets to giggle when they plow “tanks” over like they’re wearing cloth and those who stack high in defensive stats sigh in frustration because they aren’t getting what they would expect. High toughness should be a counter to high offense, not the opposite.
(edited by ComeAndSee.1356)
No dude, Anet is trolling you. Blame them for upping damage and lowering toughness as it scales. 3700 toughness and you would think a warrior was wearing a T-shirt after being hit by a full glass cannon..
I’m sure you’re a class that have better/effective damage mitigation and self support reliance. Warriors doesn’t have these luxuries. Even our broken friend Ranger has better support. Not many go that route, but they can out support a warrior 1v1 and win in a battle of attrition.
It’s starting to get more ridiculous by the week. You make the conscious effort to stack high armor and vitality in order to boost your survivability to the point that you literally can’t boost it any higher and people come around and smash you for a 1/3rd of your life in one hit or instant gib you in 3 seconds (had a Thief do that to me earlier).
It’s only two classes in game that can hit this hard and they’re both physical attack classes, go figure.
Yeah, had some great battles tonight. Back and forth at Garrison for over 3 hours before finally one side gave up, but now three hours later it looks like the tide is turned. Who will win?
You can get 14.5s up-time on the Staff if you go 30 in boon traits and 3 15%, 10%, and10% boon duration runes.
Staff isn’t good for its range, but it has the widest arc of any weapon in game. It’s great for running into the masses in WvW and hitting 5 people at once. For PvE the staffs much better with the improved to the Orb’s speed and it meshes very well when you trait it.
Our only “real” ranged weapon really is Reflective Ward. Get the trait that allows you to range cast consecrations and you can strategically place it in front of a group of 10 ranged and watch them murder themselves.
I have 1500 healing power with stack rune and it only healed for like 85 when I played around with it.
The out manned balance is not the issue… The issue is culling.
Culling isn’t the issue. The people usually load eventually.
It’s just a simple fact that 20 people don’t stand a chance against 50 players (times 2) roaming around the map. 9 out of 10 times they can’t even get out of their spawn or have any hope of capturing something bigger than a supply camp.
Earlier in WvW a thief jumped me in the battle field, popped Haste, and literally full healthed me and dropped a finishing move in the span of 4 seconds then vanished and ran away when there was 20 other people around me. I was completely shocked as I have never been killed that fast by any class in game, even Warriors.
I have 3182 armor and had 17.2k hp at the time. I wish I was running fraps because I was rooted and my health bar just dropped 100% to 0% in mere seconds before I could even react.
This (and Warriors) is really starting to ruin PvP for me with the ridiculous amount of damage being dumped out. There should be 0 reason why any class should hit even over 3.5k physical attacks on builds stacked high on armor.

Always happens to me and my group of about 3 friends that go out on our own to get stuff. We come across a loner, beat him down in about 4 seconds and he logs… little wimps
The only wimps are the people who have to 4v1 to get kills.
You shouldn’t get “honor” badges if you have to severely outnumber or use cheap builds that let you full health somebody in 3 seconds.

JQ needs to stop building siege in invul spots on their home map. :/ Don’t believe me I have 4 screenshots of 4 separate incidents.

SoS outmanned on JQ map still.
Eviscerate crit for 6,786 damage on me today. 3,186 armor.
Seriously, Warrior’s are trolling PvP right now.
Current Score. 11:14am est.
SoS outmanned on JQ and SBI map.
Toughness scales directly proportional to Power from what I know. In fact I think the algorithm is a straight subtraction from their Power based on your toughness point for point.
It obviously doesn’t scale with crit dmg which is the problem. If I was a class with less toughness than the damage I would of taken would of been 15-30% higher.

I have 3185 armor and a Thief opened up with three Heartseekers on me. 1st for 2,819, 2nd for 3,917, and the 3rd for 4,995 back to back. Come on, I’m leveling a Thief and that is your #2 mash button that attacks as fast as your GCD. :/
Then I have Warrior’s throwing Blade Trails at me 6k. Killshots for over 9k.
Why is Armor such a crappy scaling stat compared to offensive stats?
edit: Another Heartseeker for 5,149 and 3,725.

ok @ComeAndSee, I want to be a guardian like you lol.
Just started mine, still on lvl 24 but I’m planning to be 80 soon hehe.
I will play with 2 friends (Ele and Thief)
It’s a great build if you know how to be flexible. It’s like being a jack of all, master of none.

Well, you have to look at the advantages and disadvantages of AH. To get the FULL potential of AH you need to have people around and they have to be in range for your buffs. It’s not on demand healing so you have to be actively fighting in order to gain its benefits. Can’t forget its only really useful with the Greatsword so you’re screwed if it’s WvW ranged combat. Also, if you’re poisoned it really cuts down on your healing.
However, if you’re around a lot of people and AOEing hardcore than you’re going to get spammed with heals.
Quit exaggerating — only a tiny minority of players actually do it.
Scoresies.
Wake up Americans. Time to win, sleepy heads!
But I don’t wanna!! I need my monies.
Endgame? Basically do dungeons for exotic gear. After that its get gear to match your “look”.
After that it’s more or less what you want to do. WvW, sPvP, or more dungeons. You log on for fun instead of carrot on sticks. Well, FOTM is the exception but I only log on to do the even numbers.
Colin Johanson: We just don’t want players to grind in Guild Wars 2.
It’s actually not constructive to quote this out of context. What was meant is that you don’t have to grind to achieve everything in GW2. Legendaries are one exception. It’s currently also true for some other things, like Infusions, but they already said during the AMA that the high ecto requirement is not exactly what they intended and that this will be reworked.
You don’t NEED legendaries, it’s just a carrot on the stick for dedicated people. They’re just for looks because their stats are marginally better than the current exotics.
Sylvari could use one or two more “generic” faces with less plant features.
Well, with humans they look like barbie and ken super models so it’s almost impossible to make ugly looking npcs.
Sylvari are the most unique and customizable race ingame. You can go generic human/elf look or mushroom head. There’s a lot more room to play with them so you can get a bigger variety of looks.
I was there earlier in the week one morning when SOS and SBI took everything we had in EB at the same time. Outmanned officially, over powered and barely holding the main keep.
SOS golem rushed our water level gate. It took the effort of every JQ in EB manning siege, repairing the gate and fighting on the walls to hold back SOS, then SBI storms in literally a second after SOS. We had SOS and SBI bodies all over our keep.
People will always take advantage of others misfortune. SOS was not in anyway out to help us, they just used us to try and get SBI keep for themselves. We took it from SOS.
Stuff like that are total coincidences and can be convenient for the defenders if both attacking forces collide into each other while you get to sit back and eat popcorn. It’s not uncommon for guilds and servers to purposely focus on the team with the highest score lead as well.
Sometimes it feels like you’re in a sandwich and you spend 95% of your time reacting instead of acting. You’re basically firemen at that point.
Also, I’m not sure what happened yesterday, but it looked like SoS was slam packed in WvW and SBI was no where to be seen. It was reverse role on Monday.
They don’t character screen for repairs, but because they feel like the people killing them didn’t deserve the kill. (i.e. 50 people gang banging 5).
Legendary items are really taking on a new role at the moment if you think about it.
They are the item tier that frees you from the grind, if you can stand the grind to get one in the first place.
Since they have stated that Legendary weapons were always meant to be equivalent to the top tier items in the game, that basically means you’ll get a free upgrade whenever a new tier of gear is introduced into the game.
Well, they have to give you a reason to get them. What’s the point of getting a Legendary if you can get Ascended weapons for free once they’re available.
To be fair you honestly can’t expect people to be disclosing “secrets” so their enemies can use their tactics against them. I mean, that’s why you don’t see treb placement and proper portal guides.
They’re just very expensive weapons with special skins.
It’s similar to Lineage 2’s castle system, but on a much larger scale.
In Lineage 2 you had castle sieges where there were defenders and attackers. Defenders had siege vehicles to break in through the gates and there was an outer and inner gate. When defenders died they spawned inside the castle and the attackers spawned at their flag on the field or at the closest town. If the defenders won than they could tax the local town so when people bought goods they got profits.
The siege vehicles were actually very similar to what’s in WvW. You had cannons that were like catapults and GIANT siege golems (almost as big as the castle) that you used to pound the doors down with.
Castle sieges lasted an hour and happened every week, but you would have multiple castle sieges back to back.
Lineage 2 (2004) had those features + castle sieges. Lineage 2 is basically the grand daddy of GW2’s siege system (both games made by NcSoft).
Two things:
1) Guardians are bad healers. They actually have extremely few skills that heal others for high amounts, compared to the engineer or elementalist. The best they have is incidental regeneration (which isn’t that much to begin with), Selfless Daring, and Writ of the Merciful. Selfless Daring is an average heal (1.4k per 5 seconds) but you need precision to keep rolling that often.
Wrong. Most of our healing comes from our Symbols. With +1500 healing and +20% boon duration runes my Symbol of Faith heals for over 5,000~ over its entire duration to everyone in it if you count in Writ and longer duration symbol trait. That’s almost 20,000~ healing if people are around me. Also, Staff AOE heal’s people around you for 3,000~ and your staff Symbol heals for 300 a tick every 0.5s for everyone in it for its duration.
2) Guardian tanking comes primarily from Altruistic Healing. To get the most of that skill you need precision so you can get heals on all your crits. As such, the Soldier’s set isn’t optimal since you don’t get precision at all, so your self-healing will be extremely kittened. If you really want to “tank” I recommend you get the Magi set, although you’ll probably last just fine even in full Berserker gear. Moreover, you’re using Signet of Mercy instead of Signet of Judgment, which is by far the best signet. Signet of Mery gives you +90 healing, which is basically nothing to the most useless stat, versus Signet of Judgment which gives 10% damage reduction, which is equivalent to about 300 toughness.
Wrong again. 95% of your healing comes from Symbol of Faith when you’re tanking. With Hold the Line you can get indefinite self-regeneration up. You stack toughness + healing + vitality and you become a tank / healer.
Altruistic healing is a good build, but it requires you to be actively fighting for you to gain its bonuses. The mace and staff is on demand which makes it a more versatile tool. Also, AH is SELF only healing versus group healing potential.
Ultimately, if you want to be a healer you’re playing the wrong class. Conversely if you want to tank, you don’t need to build for it, because guardian is naturally tanky by default. A guardian can take on 3-4 veteran mobs solo without his health ever dropping, even in full Berserker’s gear.
You’re right, there aren’t healer classes. Guardian heals are too short ranged to make them “real” healers, but what you CAN be is a SUPPORT Guardian. That means in PvE you can be a Tank, a Healer, a DPS, and a group buffer ALL IN ONE if you want to sacrifice your damage. People in my guild have told me they prefer running groups with me and other support guardians because it makes the runs so much easier.
In WvW SUPPORT Guardian’s are one of the most powerful classes/builds you can have. Wall of Reflection, Sanctuary, AOE stability for 14s, Wall of Lining, and heals make you invaluable.
In Condemned, Guardian’s were required to be support builds in WvW and we worked together (usually 3-5 at a time) to block off choke points with Walls/Sanctuaries and we would use our tomes/stabilities simultaneously when we were doing major pushes through choke points. We were extremely powerful and there was a time where we stopped a 40 man zerg with 4 guardians and 10 defenders for over 45 minutes from capping their own spawn keep. This was when wall of lining lasted 8 seconds though <- lol
(edited by ComeAndSee.1356)
How do you hold aggro?
From what I’ve noticed, mobs and bosses tend to aggro on players based on armor type because they almost always go for the Heavy Armor players first.
There’s no real “aggro” system in the traditional sense. Some bosses tend to pick targets randomly while others will stay on me the entire fight.
Perhaps the biggest lesson SoS can take out of this week is that we have to be more flexible about guild map assignments on the fly and be able to adjust appropriately to maps that are getting overwhelmed.
I agree, and the guilds also have to work a lot better together and communicate better with the militia. The last few nights have been a bit slapstick. 5 commander tags on, no one commanding. That kind of silly lower tier nonsense.
Well, if the squad feature would work like a party/raid window it would help tremendously with pug commanders.
Just 1 piece of agony significantly reduces the damage.
That equals 60 hours of your life?
More like 60 seconds on the auction house and the mystic forge.
