This is what Colin said about unlocking the Elite Specs, Please read it before complaining about grind.

“It works just like any other training line – except all the skills, traits, skins, abilities, etc. are all inside one full training line that costs 400 points to get everything in the entire line. It costs 60 points to unlock and be able to play as the elite specialization itself.
Currently anyone who has done all the hero points in the world has about half of the entire elite spec line unlocked on day one. Hero challenges in the jungle are worth 10 points each, so you’ll only need to do about 20 hero challenges in the jungle [or via the new WvW system] to have everything related to your elite spec trained.
There are enough hero challenges in the jungle to train your entire elite spec and not do the challenges in core world if you wish – they simply speed you up if you’ve already got them.”

You can read that in 2 ways:

- You unlock all traits and skills with 60 heropoints and the skins with the remainder of heropoints.
- You unlock the very first minor thing in the training line, most likely a minor trait.

It was data mined that we would need 270 Hero Points to unlock the Elite Specs and now that they give us the base of the Elite Spec (traits and skills) for only 60 Hero Points people are crying on the forums asking for refunds.

You can keep claiming that you will unlock the traits and skills for 60 heropoints, but Colin didn’t confirm this at all. He said you need to have 60 heropoints to be able to play the elite spec. This could mean that it could only unlock the first minor trait which gives us the weapon and and the traitline. It makes us being able to play as the new elite spec, but it doesn’t mean we have all skills and traits unlocked.

So playing without your gyros is playing as an Elite Spec? I disagree with that.

Yes it is. You replaced one of the traitlines with a elite spec traitline turning you into that elite spec. You don’t need to be using any of the elite specs new skills or even their new weapon, but you will be using the elite spec.

It’s 40 hero challenges within HoT. Even less if you currently have excess hero points. Not a big deal…

No it’s not a big deal to you, it’s a rather large deal to everyone who disagrees, which is the majority. (at least in the forum world)

Because 40 HoT hero challenges requires too much effort?

It does if most of them will require masteries already.

The first tier of gliding and mushroom jumping.

Which takes too much effort if you want to play HoT content with the new Elite Specs already.

Not a big deal. I’ll treat it like levelling in other mmos.

also

“Again, hero challenges are worth 10 points each in the jungle. So no you don’t need to go do 200-400 jungle challenges.”

That may be the case, but many of the jungle heropoint challenges will most likely require gliding and/or mushroom jump masteries. So it will still take you at least hours before you could even get near the amount of heropoints needed to unlock the Herald completely.

Unlocking your elite spec is a training line in your training panel that costs hero points. You do need to have trained all the existing training lines before you’re allowed to put hero points into your elite spec.

If you’ve got all the hero points in the existing game you’ll have enough to train about half the elite specialization training line on launch day. The rest you’ll need to earn in the jungle or via the new system Tyler outlined yesterday from WvW. The number of points to fully train your elite spec is higher than other training lines – but hero challenges in the jungle are worth 10 points each, so it’s not actually as big as it appears.

Revenant hype just took a complete nose dive… There went half my weekend grinding hero points…

Why? At 80 you have all unlocked, then go to jungle to get 10x points

Base Revenant is slow. Yes, they have the Shiro legend for superspeed, but thats 8sec of superspeed on a 10 sec cool down, but also only if you don’t use any other skills (so no condi cleanse or dashes). The lack of perm swiftness (or any swiftness on that matter) really hurts when you need to travel across maps.

This is a Beta Weekend Event where you can test out the new specs in ALL game modes and all game content it has. Excluding infusion slots makes you unable to test them out in high level fractals.

I specifically took my ascended gear out of my bank assuming the ascended gear we would get would have infusion slots. The lack of an infusion slot means I won’t be able to play the specs in fractals now

Shield been buffed!

in Guardian

Conner.5803

I do have a slight concern about Shield of Judgement though.

Don’t get me wrong, a short duration block was exactly what the guardian shield needed and I am more than happy that it was finally added.

But thinking in PvE tems, a short duration block like that is most useful to react to a telegraphed attack. That usually leaves you with a very short reaction window though. And a 1/2 second cast makes the Shield of Judgement not entirely feasible for that task.
I would propose to reduce the cast time to 1/4 of a second or even remove it entirely. The latter might prove too strong though, which is why I included the 1/4 second suggestion.

I would keep the cast on 1/2 second, but have the aegis on yourself be insta cast and then spread it to your allies.

Loving the shield now though :P

Request: let beta characters "rep" guilds.

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Conner.5803

The way that they set up the split of account to be able to play the open world with access of a mirror of your bank made this not possible according to many similar threads. So in other words not going to happen.

Actually it was possible to rep a guild on a beta character. But you needed to have a BWE before that where you used a beta character who switched to a new fractal when the BWE ended. You would be able to rep a guild then for the next BWE. But since Anet corrupted our previous beta characters, it won’t be possible.

So yeah you could rep a guild while using a beta character.

Missed all three beta weekends. =(

I’m not sure why you would expect a game company to schedule their beta weekends around an irregular schedule nurses have? It sucks that she won’t be able to beta test, but you can’t really blame Anet for this.

[Request] Bank reclone/reset for BWE3+

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Conner.5803

Conner.5803

They mentioned that you could “continue working on your masteries” in BWE3 during the livestream. Which I’m guessing means that they’ll again be simply carrying over the previous beta accounts, and not creating a new bank / account clone this time around.

They did say

Final Beta weekend event
Due to large back-end changes to core systems that have corrupted some of the beta data, your characters from previous beta weekends will not be available for BWE3—everyone will be starting with fresh beta characters.

So new chars and I would bet a new bank reset.

I would be incredibly kittened off if they don’t give us a bank reset now. I had a fully ascended Revenant ready the last BWE because I wanted to test them out in fractals. But if this means my Revenant is being deleted along with all the ascended stuff it had on it, I won’t be able to continue testing in the ONE thing I actually play

Ehm, so why do you “need” ascended gear so badly? It’s a tier that has only a good use in fractals. Everywhere else in the game it isn’t even a requirement to have, so why even bother with it then?

You claiming that Anet doesn’t cater to the casuals enough made me really chuckle. So basically most of the PvE side of the game is catered to the casuals (world bosses, dungeons, no gear requirement is almost the entire game, no level cap increase, general open world exploring, etc.) and you’re complaining it’s not enough? Ascended gear isn’t even hard to get if you can only play 3-4 hours a day. If it was 3-4 hours a week it would be different story, but that’s not the case here. IF you want something so bad EARN it then. Spend your time wisely instead of whining here!

Conner.5803

You said you’re talking PvE here and yet you mention Death Magic as the alternatives lol.

Not Blood Magic. Not Curses. But that garbage Death Magic /smh

edit: You have Relentless Pursuit. On a PvE build. Oh, god, please specify if you’re an open world PvE type of guy, this build is terrible for dungeons.

The main reason im avoiding all meta elitist bullcrap is because half of those elite zerk speedrunners either cant sync in stacks or dont know how to dodge/when to put wall/when give stability/aegis etc. When just 1 guy in meta group is lacking experience every1 basically die because of the dps drop and lack of survival. Got tired of parties waiting 20minutes on lfg to complete their “dreamparty” when the dungeon path of, lets say CoE can be completed in 10-15 with decent non-meta group.

Also, i stated this is pve. We all know there is pve and there are dungeons. They are a little bit different from regular pve, but you said it right. I didnt mention this is open world build.
Now… why not blood magic and death instead ? Probably because (if i remember correctly- i might be wrong since i havent played necro for a while) all these life siphons dont affect your health while you’re in death shroud.

From what i know HoT is providing enemies that can actually hurt the character. Rune of scholar is losing value at this point bacause even is SW it can be hard to maintain those 90%hp with glassy build.

And finally. Damage bonus. As is said, death magic provides +210 power. Soul reaping provides +5% damage (no other damage buffs there not including dhuumfire – vulnerability is already capped), Blood magic is just life siphon dmg (40 + 38 +120 if we take wells) and i find it lacking in dealing sustain dps.

As for curses. No damage buffs there at all. Bleedings ? Fury when we have already 100% crit chance thanks to the Decimate defenses ? Tell me what exactly makes curses better in power build.

Maybe my logic is flawed. If so, please zenith explain to me why since you’re so great and mighty pro walking among mere noobs.

What I don’t get is why you would run with a selfish traitline like Death Magic instead of Blood Magic that will help your party survive better while also making your Wells better? This is a game where team-play is valued more than having one guy doing a little more damage than another you know.

I’d like to see runes based around each legend too. For example, a Rune of Ventari that has healing power and outgoing healing, with the outgoing healing replacing the boon duration that most healing power runes have.
