NA servers vary greatly guild to guild. Some guilds live for open field combat, some guilds are there to defend, some guilds butt hug quaggans.

I’m willing to bet there are multiple guilds on GoM that use voice comms. Ask around in team/map chat while playing, and you’ll likely find one.
While it would be surprising to me, if you don’t manage to find one, you could always start your own. If a guild that uses voice comms doesn’t already exist, there are likely many people ready to join your new guild based on voice comms.

I would love to see AoE caps removed to stop the zergballs. A good point was raised about retaliation though, and without rethinking that, uncapping AoE would just make the zergball run X amount of retaliation so anybody that AoE’s them will be killed almost instantly.
I’m down for removing the AoE limit, but things like retaliation will need rethought.

There’s only so much we can do against SF’s still superior daytime coverage and numbers. You guys are still capable of retaking stuff in multiple borderlands faster than we can grab it. And, yes we still have plenty of moments that we wipe on SF and ET attacks. But I think anybody who would deny that now we are wiping far less than we did a week ago and WvW is suddenly more competitive is… well. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. I can understand that FC and ET recently had transfers, but how did SF fell to tier 8 if they never had any business there?

We did belong here when we first entered T8. We even lost our first couple match-ups here.

EDIT: I’m sure the follow up question would be “what changed”. I don’t have an answer that I can without a doubt prove, but somehow (transfers or people going to WvW from Pve, or something) we got a lot more people in WvW. We have some skilled groups and some not so skilled groups, like all servers. I’m not trying to say we are special, and I have no clue how many folks you field in T7, but I can say SF fields a lot.
There will always be the delusional few that state otherwise, but SF has large numbers and for a lot of our fight in T8 have won PvDoor style, because it’s that or log out.
I can’t wait to fight in T7 because we may stomp there, or we may get our butts handed to us and find out that we truly belong in T8. The point is, nobody can know for certain what will happen until we fight. We know that tier locking is a side effect of glicko in a tiered environment. This is mathematically provable. However, if T8 is a result of tier-locking is most definitely up in the air.

I’m starting to see why SF suffers in the open field – more forum warriors that WvW warriors. Glad you guys got brave after we left. Wouldn’t have minded that attitude while we were in the tier. It’s weird you guys always seem to kill us when no one is on. Such is the paradox of forum battles. I’m also impressed with your “genuine” concern for FC. Talking about forum warriors, why would a visiting team come all the way down to T8 “on a vacation” then start to blow up the forums about all their skills. When FC said they couldn’t field those numbers two weeks ago it seems like a big deal, and it was 30+ (they said they can get about 30 on reset night). They took up spots that could have went to guild like LAW and some of the others out there (can’t remember the names) that are much more skilled than VK. Once you brake the VK little zergball the just scatter and run. (expected more from a T2 server)

Agreed, [VK] aren’t the skilled bunch they like to think they are. Granted, almost any organization is an improvement for MOST of T8, but other groups like [Agg] are a much bigger threat and a vastly superior group. On a respect level too, it’s nice to see [Agg] SHOW US how good they are in-game, instead of having to TELL US on the forums lol.
That being said, losing [VK] will still hurt FC because they were indeed skilled (don’t get me wrong), just not as skilled as others or as skilled as they seem to think they are.

We’ve had groups zerg rush the enemy spawn before out of boredom, just to see who could make it the farthest in. Was pretty fun.

Good fights last night all. The big battle between ET and SF for the garrison was fantastic. [Agg], I had to lol a bit when I was trying to escape to our tower only to be blocked from the entrance… well played, and I barely escaped with my life. That’s a tactic that I haven’t seen pulled off so effortlessly on T8 before and will be looking to incorporate that in to our strategy. Well done, and great ZvZ fight last night, it was a blast!

I saw an [SS] tag when we got wiped here (image below). We didn’t return though, as we were outnumbered by quite a bit, and it would have served no purpose to go get killed again.
I’m not sure exactly when you think you wiped us 3 times in a row, but I can tell you that during our WvW event last night, we never got wiped 2 times in a row. We did get wiped, but never twice in a row.

Anyway good fights, keep it up. The fights have been fun, but the forum time I usually get in at work is becoming pretty crappy. The alternative of actually working the entire time scares me though, so I’ll be here :P

EDIT: Thinking back, we did actually get wiped one time, came back, and about half of us died before we retreated, so you could count that as two wipes in a row if you’d like. It was not the same fight as the screenshot. I don’t have a screenshot of that one (I was way too busy fleeing).

If HoD swaps with DR, before SF can swap with GoM, then it’s likely the new T7 will have DR tossing GoM down to T8 quickly.

For sure, I can’t seem to pull off that rub your belly, pat your head thing… Also tying shoes as of late has been a struggle. I’m going to try to start tying my shoes by numbers. Maybe if I can get a zerg of people to tie my shoes we can get it done :P

Joking aside. There are skilled groups in ET/FC/SF, and crap groups in ET/FC/SF. The server that is winning will usually have more of these bad groups show up. That being said, I’m gonna get these kitten shoes tied one day, then you’ll all see!

Would like to point out that the xfers actually screwed you guys. You were on your way up to T7 slowly but you were and after the transfers you are currently on your way back down separating the gap. All you can do now is really cheer for the people you wanted everyone to push down for you, HoD. And hope we just target one server so they begin to drop significantly. Ahhhh karma got to love it.

This means that the list of current match-ups will be close, but not equal to the list of server ranking in order.

That’s a really dumb idea as dozens of players have pointed out in other threads. It just makes blowouts happen more often.

I’d prefer to have a blowout every other week rather than every single week.
I understand why you call it “dumb”, but I think it’s a better alternative than the current.
There are plenty of examples and scenarios that show why glicko fails in a tiered environment. This options mixes the tiers more often (more blowouts, you’re correct), and the reason for this would be to keep the tiers in the same score scale with other tiers. I don’t expect everybody to understand and/or agree with this, I just think it’s better than what we currently have. I’d love to hear a solution that is the best of both worlds; minimal blowouts, but tiers don’t get off scale with each other in regards to glicko score.

NO NO NO! Don’t come with WULO! that will keep some servers stuck on a cycle where you roflstomp a week and get roflstomped on the next. Without a chance of ever changing your rank.

But glicko would still dictate your server ranking, so this allows you to improve or lose server ranking. Without WULD, you get stuck in tier lock, where the scores within the tier you are in become further and further out of tough with other tiers, since no server ever got bumped up to sow how bad they would get stomped by the tier above.
Think about our tier, tier 8. This system would let SF play 2 servers in T7 above them and find out if we really belong where we are, or if we were stuck in a tier lock in T8. This would keep the tiers in the same score scale, as opposed to now where any tier that repeats the same match-up more than a couple times, will become out of sync with the scores from the other tiers.
Right now, if ET and FC got enough transfers to become mega powers, and SF stepped up to the same skill level, we would all 3 be good enough to move up multiple tiers, but since we are only compared to each other, we would still be stuck in T8, because with a tiered environment, glicko causes tier lock by only comparing your performance to the servers in the same tier as you.

I don’t think they meant to trade one bottom of the bucket server for another. Now the ones that this was an issue with before will be alright but the problems will just be given to other servers instead. It’s like taking the “kick me” sticker off one person’s back and sticking it to another’s.

Well you don’t have to worry about NA tier 8 jumping up tiers any time soon, we will be tier locked for a while due to this action from ANet. Even if we are T7 or T6 level, there is no way for glicko to compare us to any servers outside of our tier, so we will be stuck here independent of server strength for quite some time.
Once one of the servers manages to either dominate enough to jump out, or if a T7 server does bad enough to bump down, then we will be able to finally see how T8 compares to T7 or above.
ANet, glicko doesn’t work well with tiers, sort your kitten out!

Well after the free transfers, this is proving itself. The match-up in T8 is at least somewhat fun now, so no complaints there, but looking at how T8 and T7 are becoming further and further separated by points because of this change, shows the issue very clearly with tiers becoming out of scale with the rest of the tiers because glicko doesn’t work in a tiered environment where the same three servers get stuck together for any duration of time over a single match-up.
According to our score before the transfers, SF was almost ready to fight any of the three servers from T7. Now that the two servers we play have gone up in score, and even though our strength didn’t change much (got better if anything) glicko shows that we are hundreds of points away from being ready to play T7… even though there was no change to our server. Well, that’s because glicko doesn’t know how to compare any of the 3 servers in T8 to any other tier, because we have only played each other for about 3 months.
ANet, comment on this, let us know you are doing something, let us know you acknowledge there is an issue. Please bring this up in a meeting and discuss it internally.

I want it to be clear that I am very happy that we have some good fights going on in T8, I’m just using an obvious example to show the issue with glicko in a tiered environment.

I for one am pretty tired of fighting the same two servers for yet another week. And I am tired of this because just when we think there’s a light at the end of the tunnel, ANet goes and does something ridiculous and open the flood gates to free transfers.

Yeah, this is where I’m at. We will see how it goes tonight and over the weekend. If all this did was take the stomp fest from 4x opponent scores to 3x opponent scores, effectively changing nothing, and only serving to hold us here even longer, I will likely start looking (for the first time) to transfer to a different server.
I’ve been in SF since the beginning and it’s been rough being stuck in this stale match-up for all three servers. I haven’t transferred to another server yet because I didn’t want to be a part of the problem, and chose to stay and try to fight our way out of T8 even if by numbers alone. We got kitten close, and then ANet popped in shaking it’s finger at us with these free transfers, saying nope, no T7 for you. Well, it’s getting old, so I’m going to first see if we have an even match-up now, but if not I’ll likely be on my way soon.
I’m hoping we see an amazing boost in numbers for FC and ET and we make T8 a great place to call home, but if I had to guess, I’d say FC and ET got just enough transfers to keep us here, but not enough to create any sort of balance.

Right now is a great time to move to HoD, ET, or FC as all three are completely free to transfer to until April 1st.

Perhaps I can’t draw this conclusion from tier lock, I really don’t know.

They wouldn’t move up together. You’d have to grind out points and then a server from T7 would come down. Once that happens then it’s easier to climb up.

At least that is how I understand it.

But if all three servers continue having a virtual 3-way tie each week due to equal population and skill, wouldn’t they all start to just get 0 points? I’ve never seen a match-up where all three servers in the tier gain points.

I guess you don’t understand the question, or I just didn’t communicate my question clearly enough.

In less words.
If T8 fills up with the 3 BEST servers in the game (remember, hypothetical), and they are all 3 at equal skill, would they somehow move up together, or would all 3 of the best servers in the game be stuck in T8 forever because they are even skill (scoring even points every match-up) even though all tiers above are lower skill (again, hypothetical, I’m delusional and all, but not that delusional)?

This is strictly hypothetical, please treat it as such.

If all 3 servers in tier 8 get a ton of transfers, and we have great even fights in tier 8, but ALL 3 servers with their mass hypothetical transfers end up performing at a much higher tier’s level, how would glicko treat that?
The way I would see it is, if we are all 3 fighting at an even level, we would end up averaging our points (979, 636, 577) and settle with all three servers at the average; 730.
So to further this hypothetical scenario (only because I’m asking about how the system would react to this, not because I think this is what is happening), let’s assume all 3 servers in T8 start performing at a T1 level… wouldn’t they still just sit at roughly 730 points forever unless a server from a higher tier drops down to our average score?

Please discuss, and try not to flame me ( too much :P ) because I’m not trying to insinuate anything here about my server or any other servers strengths, and I’m not voicing an opinion on the transfers, I’m just honestly curious if the system could recognize that a tier as a whole has gotten stronger, or not.

Its only since the patch that I realised how lame it is. My first thought was a health or damage decreaser once it gets above a certain amount of players in an area IE 1% less damage if over 30 players etc etc. I don’t know if theres a better idea, but I really hope something is integrated into the game that reduces the full on zerg mentality that is in the game. And I don’t believe its possible for the players to just adapt. The system needs to adapt so its not so beneficial to play this way.

I’d love to see them drop the AoE cap. It wouldn’t be so rewarding to stack.

I don’t know if ANet has different stats than they show to us on the World choice screen, but it feels wrong lol

My guess is that depending on time of day, the population may drop low enough to send us to medium? I’m not sure if it works this way, but I think it does since I’ve seen other threads on the cheapest time of day to transfer to specific servers.
So if you want to join sorrows furnace for that map completion or for any other reason, keep an eye on the population and come on over if it hits medium.

Good show all the same. lets hope that the increased interest does not dwindle too much.

Indeed, both FC and ET had quite the showing last night.
While there is still a large population difference between SF and FC/ET, I do feel like it’s at least starting to even out a bit with the free transfers and/or patch. Last night was the most fun I’ve had in WvW in a while. Keep it up!

I only know 1-4 = Invader
