Guys. If everyone employed the same strategy, it would not result in a tie. It’s possible that the result would be unpredictable. But it wouldn’t be a tie. Obviously, SM is a big heaping wall of not-tie. Almost all rolls in the game have some randomness, which equals no-tie. And then the EB map is inherently not symmetrical, which leads to some reliable predictions. Blue and Green are close together. Red is far away. Blue keep can treb SM from its vista tower. WC is probably the most defensible forward tower. Anz is probably the least defensible forward tower. When someone gets SM it would be in the other two’s best interest to double team.
The question was, what is an optimal strategy. The goal, I think, is speed and communication. You can have a bigger army than everyone else if you can be at two places at one time. This means optimally, you want Mesmers holding Road Markers to facilitate travel across your interior. You need group speed buffs.
Organization-wise, you’ll definitely want an interior cleanup party to get back supply camps and a forward infiltration party to mess with the enemy’s supply camps. But zerg-wise you’re going to want to be able to break off into smaller units quickly based on what you own and where you’re being pressed. You’ll also want a chain of command similar to the Army’s, but I think that’s implied in the question.
The larger the zerg, the more you’re going to want AoE healers and long-range glass-cannon AoE damage dealers. The smaller the party, the more you’re going to want self-reliant 1v1ers.
If we’re also talking literal robotic optimal behavior, you want each map to be exactly full without any queue. So people can choose where to grab supplies from across four maps. Also, for that matter, during lower population hours, you want to be able to marshall troops across all four maps based on where they are needed most.
I’ve played a lot of WvW, and in pre-turtle days, the 5-man AoE cap rarely came into play, except in cases of door crowds and lord rooms.
My solution is to remove 5-man AoE cap for everywhere except lord’s room. The door crowd will have to rely on their allied AoE’rs to protect them — and more reliance on catas from a distance.
The way things are going, it’s entirely possible that BG gets stuck in Tier 2 for another week, but enters Tier 1 the week after that as the overall number 1 ranked server.
Suuuuuuuuuup from Blackgate to our old buddies at SBI and IoJ — the last competitive matchup we’ve been in. Special props to IoJ for breaking out of Tier 2.
You all look like you’re in a tight fight. Fun for you. Bad for us. If no one in that matchup loses more ELO, we might get stuck with a third straight week of mismatch. But it’s early still.

It looks like the best grouping since GW2 started, and we’re stuck correcting HoD and ET’s leftover ELO. Oh well, we’ll see you all again sooner or later…
Agree with OP.
The only spec that I thought was comparable in damage was a bomb kit build. It was super fun too. But when I started wvw’ing, the 1500 range on grenades is so useful, that I put aside the bombs. However, I suspect if you’re going pure pve dungeons, you can make the bombs work, assuming you are increasing your survivability in some way.
I believe there are still elixir gun and flamethrower fans out there as well.
First place might be a foregone conclusion, and I really couldn’t tell you if I’d prefer second or third place… But it’s a fun match. Keep it coming! I want to pop more Elixir U’s.
Well, it seemed to be mainly Blackgate. I picked a random server and…
It worked. 100%, finally.
Server: Blackgate
Map: Iron Marches
Skill Point in Lamprey Grottoes. I can read Zzzig in chat, but he’s otherwise not where he should be.
Broken for at least four days. Last one for world 100%…
No responses, huh…
Is this just my server? I’d be happy to transfer to get this thing done. Can anyone confirm that it’s unbugged on their server? It’s been broken on mine for at least three days…
I think it’s a known bug, but the skill point in Lamprey Grottoes in Iron Marches appears to be bugged. You can read Zzzig’s voice in chat, but he isn’t otherwise in-game. I’ve been hoping for several days that it gets fixed, but since it’s the last thing I need before 100% world completion, I figured I’d send a report even if it’s a repost.
My server is Blackgate. I’d be willing to transfer servers to get this skill point done, if anyone knows of a server where it’s working.
You are observant.
Engineers can get pretty much perma-swiftness from http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Rune_of_the_Centaur
if they spam their med kit and med kit 5 skill.
(I’ve heard that other classes can get perma-swiftness much easier.)
Engineers can also get a short-term speed boost different from swiftness called haste
from http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Super_Speed
Haste gives doubles movement speed while swiftness only increases movement speed by 33%.
Engineers also have several other ways to get swiftness, including a trait that grants it for crits and another trait that grants it for just switching kits every 5 seconds.
nice on paper bad in reality.
Only on the internet can someone shoot down someone else’s tried and true build without actually testing it and then claim that it’s nice on paper, bad in reality.
Seems like no one in this thread besides OP has even tried it?
Great thread, guys.
