I’ve been getting the same crash as everyone else here.

hey all, I had the same issue that you do, and I think that I may have a solution. All that I did was update the diver for my network and that seem to fix my 7:11:3:191:101. I updated about a week ago and I have not dc sense.

Factory Farming

Hmm… Has anyone else tried this? It requires some brisk activity from other players, so you may have to jump around guest servers. My server, Sea of Sorrows, seems to be pretty active on this DE.

Also, I think a Thumper Turret on top of one of the two main Risen Worm spawn sites is pretty much money in the bank.

The Killstreak Experience Booster record is really just a matter of endurance. I mean, I get constant kills while I walk south to the town to sell.

Factory Farming

Automation is the future and the future is now.

This build is only for farming Merla’s Fish Oil DE in Cursed Shore. There will always be a fastest and easiest farming location, and right now, this appears to be it. Keep in mind that whether the event is going or not, there are constant mob spawns.

The only requirement for this build is 30 in Inventions and take all three turret traits. I would recommend maxing firearms for pistols, because they make for easy tagging, should you ever feel like doing some of the work yourself.

The main things you will actually do are exactly what any capitalist does. Manual labor? Of course not. You’re management now. Your job entails the following:

*Manage your equipment — even with all the turret traits, your turrets will occasionally need re-dropping.

*Manage your workforce — a full party of fresh farmhands makes tagging mobs much easier. Everyone else in the party will be too busy farming to make these sorts of hiring decisions. You’d be surprised how long a friendly “Heya” can keep them working at their pitiful subsistence wages. If only they’d gone to grad school and become Engineers like us!

*Collect the profits — loot the loot.

*Check the internet — the innernet.

*Fire your pistols — might as well tag something far away from your turrets, since they’ll be tagging everything nearby. It also keeps the farmhands in line.

*Feasting — eat Omnomberry bars and wear your flashiest MF in general.

I recommend the Flame Turret. It’s great at tagging mobs. After that, it’s dealer’s choice. I’ve been enjoying Thumper and Rocket. I’m sure Rifle would work as well. You can heal with anything, but why wouldn’t you take Healing Turret when you’ve gone this far? Of course, take Supply Crate. But don’t sleep on Asura golems either. Because who doesn’t like robot workers? The Proletariat, that’s who. But keep chomping that cigar, because YOU control the means of production now.

Keep your turrets near one another (so you know where not to loot blindly and you don’t accidentally pick them up) but not on top of each other (so one red puddle doesn’t take all 3 out). Speaking of which, be careful not to afk where the green clouds sprout. I just died. Don’t worry, I rallied.

Of course, another build requirement is a lot of inventory space. And a handy Merchant Express doesn’t hurt either. As I type this, I keep running out of inventory space.

Like they always say, the hardest part of the job really is firing a party member. That’s because you’ll have to blindly Invite farmhands until one accepts.

Sorry this post is discombobulated. My turrets have been farming while I wrote it and I had to keep stopping to collect loot. I guess your free time really is the price of fabulous wealth.

If Anet’s idea of endgame is endless Legendary farming, then Engineer is king of the endgame. It was only a matter of time before the Engineer class rose above the uneducated classes.

Now go out there and CAPITALIZE, you CAPITALISTS!

Wow, didn’t even think about using major runes of Lyssa for that extra 7%. The might stacking isn’t as important in the build, but the vulnerability stacking, as you said, is great, especially for a party.

I’m starting to think that when it comes to PvE dungeons, Vulnerability application and maintenance is the real benefit of taking along an Engineer. Being able to maintain a 20-25 stack of Vulnerability should speed up a dungeon moreso than basically any other Engy build. With 5 people focus-firing, no boon or condition comes close to the effectiveness of Vulnerability.

So, the key things in a build would be Condition Duration and Steel-Packed Powder. Then, you’d probably also want to take Precise Sights. If you’ve got full Cond Duration, you probably can skip Analyze. But it’s there if you need it.

After that, you still have a lot of trait points and gear options. You would naturally be in a position to maximize Condition dealing. I think Rampagers would be a great option. Trait-wise, you could do whatever works best for you with the other ~30 trait points.

I can’t recall but doesn’t it state “unarmed bundle.” Like medkit. Could be wrong it’s been ages since I’ve been to the mists.

I think you might be thinking of Leg Mods, which provides 10% movement speed while carrying an unarmed bundle. And for those purposes, unarmed bundle refers to Med, Grenade, and Bomb Kits. But not Elixir or Flamethrower Kit. I.e., are you hands empty?

Regarding the Rune of the Engineer, it seems underpowered to me, but not too badly underpowered. Rune of the Engineer gives 165 Toughness, 57 Condition Damage, and 5% damage bonus (122 raw stats plus 5% damage). By comparison, I’m using Ruby Orbs, which give 12% Crit Dam, 120 Power, and 84 Precision (124 raw stats plus 12% crit). They seem comparable, assuming you are interested in that stat allocation.

This is a theorycraft build at the moment. It’s basically a variation on the condition grenade builds that are out there. I think it’s ideal vs multiple targets, so I’ll call it a WvW build for the time being. Again, it’s theorycraft, so it probably won’t work well, if at all.

The basic premise of this build is that players have capitalized on many aspects of a good condition build: Condition Damage, Condition Duration, Might stacking, Procs on Crit, Precision. But I haven’t seen any Condition builds that take into account another dimension: opportunity to crit. To my knowledge, the Engineer may lead all classes in the number of white numbers you can get on your screen at one time (with the exception of classes using reflection abilities). That’s what this build is about. So we’re talking Grenades and Static Discharge and every possible proc on crit we can stack.

Explosives 30:
15% bleed from explosions, 33% burn on crit every 3 secs, Grenadier. This includes 25-pt trait 100% Vuln on explosion. Also includes 30% Condition Duration.
Firearms 25:
50% Vuln on crits, 20% longer burns. Includes 5-pt trait 30% chance to Bleed on crit and 25-pt trait 5% increased damage on bleeding. Also includes 250 Precision and Condition Damage.
Tools 15:
Static Discharge

Utilities: Med Kit, Grenade Kit, Surprise Shot (from the useless Rifle Turret), Utility Goggles/Analyze, Supply Crate
Alt: Tool Kit instead of Goggles.
Runes: the +27% Cond Duration suite of Superior Lyssa, Major Lyssa, and Superior Mad King on mix of Rabid and Rampagers.
Sigil: Earth (60% chance to bleed on crit every 2 seconds) and Corruption on Giver’s pistols.

So, I think the playstyle should be clear. Land as many possible proc-pportunities as possible. There are 2 different Fury sources to get: Medkit 5 and Analyze. After that, pick out your victims (plural) and press f2, f3, and f4 simultaneously. What will happen is Analyze will stick 10 Vulns on the primary target immediately. Then (counting the proc opportunities in parenthesis), Surprise Shot (1) and Grenade Barrage (40) will do their things. You’ll get 3 Static Discharges (9). If everything goes (impossibly) perfectly, you’ll have the opportunity to proc 50 times on a small crowd or 12 times on a 1v1 single target in the first 1/2 second, at the rates discussed above.

A lot of our procs have limits. Shrapnel and Steel-packed powder are Explosions only. Sigil of Earth has a 2 second cooldown and Incendiary Powder has a 3 second cooldown. But Sharpshooter and Precise Sights do not. They can proc constantly and from anything. They are the greatest beneficiaries of this build.

Obviously, I went with Surprise Shot and Analyze for their lack of casting times. Surprise Shot is pretty mandatory for it’s ridiculous cooldown speed. But Analyze can definitely be substituted out for Took Kit or Elixir S.mall or Elixir C.leanse, as you see fit.

While this build does not have the Might stacking of an HGH build, it does have a very high Vulnerability quotient to compensate for that. Keep in mind that 25 Vulnerabilities will raise your damage 25%. But furthermore, it will raise the damage output of all your team (WvW, sPvP, or PvE) 25% as well. In a dungeon, that’s like getting an extra guy. Your 5 man team will hit like a 6.25-man team.

Anyway, it’s late. And I’m sure this build won’t work anyway. So I thought I’d put it out there for discussion.

As a class, no. I think Engineers should be diverse and weird and gadgety. I think the changes are pushing us away from fun, weird things like bombs, elixir gun, flamethrower and control builds that have respectable damage.

Personally, yes. I am, and always have been a static discharge grenadier for PvE dungeons and WvW. 30/15/0/0/25; berserks with ruby orbs; MK, GK, Rifle Turret, TK, SD. The “grenade nerf” patch was actually a pretty big buff because 2 or 3 sigils are greater than the nerf to Grenade 1. Neither Kit Refinement nerf meant much to me.

The only change from this patch that affects me much is the Surprise Shot buff. I had already considered it one of the best Engineer skills. Buffing it is just delicious, delicious gravy.

On a damage side of things:
In my opinion the Engineer really needs to have a rush/charge/shadow step in the bomb kit that lays down a line of bombs along the way. That would really give that kit a needed boost.

Yeah, we definitely need a charge / jetpack storm / teleport to / something better than Rifle 5. If we’re expected to be medium range, we need some kind of gap closer, instead of one million gap creators (PBR, Rifle 4, EG 4, FT 3, Rocket Boots, etc.).

The Strongest Engineer Skills

Well, I love Surprise Shot and agree that it deserves its spot on this list.

Cooldown is every ten seconds, or faster traited. It has no casting time, so it can be cast during other attacks. (Let that sink in, because anything that operates off the global cooldown has the potential to be great.) You can cast it in any direction and while stunned or feared or dazed. It can easily do over 3k from just the Surprise Shot and a single Static Discharge pulse, never mind that SD can jump to 2 other targets. Plus all those hits translate to more opportunities to proc whatever you have that procs (Fire Sigil, Sharpshooter, Shrapnel, Incendiary Powder, Precise Sights). I think it’s OP in PvE for increased sustained dps, but it’s clearly even better in PvP where it provides all-important burst.

Plus, if you insist on pressing the Rifle Turret button, you can get a combo blast from it.

Berserker or Rampager for grenade damage?

I recently respecced to 30/15/0/0/25. 15 in Firearms gives 10% more crits on <50% enemies and 25 in Toolkits gives 10% damage while at full endurance. It’s also easier to keep full endurance when your Belt skills recharge endurance 10% and your Belt skills are on quicker cooldowns. And of course 25 Tools means +25% crit damage. Now if only Scope worked…

Of course, the tradeoff is fewer Precision and Cond Damage raw stats from the Firearms tree.

Hmm… I couldn’t tell you for sure. In my opinion, 1500 range is a license to go full glass cannon. I use full Berserkers, but I wouldn’t be shocked if it turned out that Rampager gave similar DPS. But I don’t think any set featuring a non-dps stat is in the same league as Berserker or Rampager in terms of dps. And they are the only pure dps sets.

Regarding Rampager though, the Precision is the primary and the Power and Cond are the secondary stats. I think Precision without +Crit Damage is for classes that proc a lot of things on crit. Engineers have some proc-on-crit things (Incendiary Powder and Sharpshooter), but not as much as Necro for example. Is it enough to warrant a Precision-primary set without +Crit on Engineer? I honestly don’t know, but that’s how I would frame it in my mind.

I’m happy with my Berserkers. If I felt I needed to mix in some Vitality or Toughness, it might open up the possibility of sets with stronger Condition itemization. Also, if I felt I could increase my DPS by throwing on some defensive stats and changing my playstyle to getting up closer (for example to Prybar or Flamethrower or point blank Grenade or Pistol 4 or Rifle 3), that would be a possibility as well. But like I said, I’m happy with Berserkers for what I run (FotM 30’s and CoF farms).

Most people on this forums will tell you HGH is the highest DPS. I disagree.

If you go HGH stacking, you’ll lose 200-300 Precision and 200-300 Condition damage from the Firearms tree. The 5, 15, and 25 automatic traits are better DPS in Firearms than Alchemy. You’ll lose a dps Sigil like Fire or Force to Sigil of Battle. You’ll lose a ton of Rune stats if you go 2x Altruism, 2x Hoelbrak, and 2x Fire (total: 50 power, 25 Healing, 40% Might duration, 3 Mights every 10 seconds versus, for example, 120 Power, 84 Precision, and 12% max crit with Ruby Orbs). If you go Enhance Performance, you’ll lose 10% damage from not having Explosive Powder. If your Might stack is at 25, you’ll lose any Mights that allies might hand out. And most importantly, you’ll waste global cooldowns nursing your Might stack instead of DPSing.

I think Engineers are better off using a Grenadier build with a little bit of rotation outside of Grenade Kit to get through cooldown lulls. For instance, Tool Kit has two heavy hitters in Prybar and Throw Wrench. Rifle has a few heavy hitters. Pistol 4 is a heavy hitter, especially with Napalm Specialist. Elixir Gun 4 is a heavy hitter. Flamethrower 2 is a heavy hitter as well.

Personally, I think Static Discharge + Surprise Shot is incredible — it takes up no global cooldown time, it requires only 10 trait points and 1 utility slot, and it’s a substantial boost to dps because it fires every 8 seconds.

I use a very similar build to yours — 30/25/0/0/15 or 30/25/0/5/10, with Grenade Kit / Rifle Turret / Tool Kit. Between Prybars, multiple Static Discharges, Sigil of Fire or Force, multipliers from Explosive Powder, Target the Maimed and Weak, you get a lot of things most HGH builds don’t.

But no one really knows until A-net lets people see damage meters, which will probably never happen.

Grenades with Grenadier means even when you are just autoing, you can hit up to 15 mobs per attack (3 Grenades x 5 Targets per AoE hit) and you can do it from 1500 range. Because you can anticipate everything that happens in Orr, it’s trivial to lead the mob groups and you can, for instance, tag mobs on both sides of Shelter’s Gate Camp by standing in the middle. And Poison Grenade allows you to pre-coat an area for when the mobs turn from invincible to damageable.

Static Discharge with Surprise Shot from Rifle Turret means every 8 seconds you get an off-the-global-cooldown chain lighting attack you can shoot in any direction which tags up mobs nicely. Throw Wrench is also excellent for tagging up mobs in a line and letting off a Static Discharge.

Although I personally take Tool Kit as my third utility (GK, RT, TK — Gear Shield is a life-saver while travelling), Elixir Gun’s Acid Bomb is excellent to pre-coat an area, with similar mechanics to Poison Grenade.

And, I don’t think Conditions are your friend when you’re just competing to tag mobs. So go Power/Precision/Magic Find.

Nothing really gets close to that in PvE

Do you lose DPS time on these kinds of builds to nurse your Might stack?

Speedy Kits is important for levelling to get you around faster.

Don’t overlook the large DPS boost of simply taking Tools 2 (Static Discharge) and combining it with Rifle Turret’s tool belt skill, Surprise Shot. Lots of easy-to-target damage every 8 seconds.

Engineer Legendary

Which Legendary would you get as an Engineer? I guess our only options are Predator, Quip, Flame Seeker Prophicies, and Frenzy.

My understanding is that none of them effect anything while your are in a Kit. Predator will at least effect some Tool Belt skills like Grenade Barrage and Throw Wrench while you have Rifle out, but not while you’re in a Kit.

Personally, I prefer Rifle to Pistol in a vacuum (and prefer Predator to Quip in a vacuum). But I’m almost always in a Kit, so I usually run either p/p or p/s for the extra Sigil. So I’m having trouble choosing here.

What are you guys thinking?

If you’re thinking of buying rings with laurels, it sounds like your don’t FotM much. I’d advise spending your laurels on non-ring things, just in case you ever get interested in FotM. Generally, doing FotM will make your bank look like a display case at Jared’s.

Until currency gets a change, you’re best off buying the amulets or earrings with your laurels.

Better Alternative to the HGH Build

One thing I’ve been meaning to try out was using 2x superior altruism runes and 2x major altruism runes for 5x might on the team. Has anybody tested this?

Oh man. Someone with x2 Superior Altruism needs to try this! Should be easy/cheap to drop 2 Majors into some crappy blue armors for a test.

you’re doing it very wrong if you are at any one of those events for more then 2 minutes.

But a large number of players ARE spending time at the dragon events, and their behavior collectively is what affects the market.

hidden flask and self-regulated deference still trigger HGH but yea like i states its a high versatile build so feel free to modify it any whichever way work for you best

I learn something new about this class every day.

I like this build and I’m anxious to try it in-game. Anxious enough to plop down the $$ for new equipment? We shall soon find out!

It’s called 100nades and you can search for an explanation in the Engi forums — it’s all over. Kit Refinement essentially allows you to hit someone with an extra Grenade Barrage if you are standing right inside of them.

A few questions.

Why did you take HGH if you took no elixirs? I might take Backpack Regenerator or Deadly Mixture.

Why did you take Kit Refinement? If I can have Surprise Shot anyway, I probably am going to want Static Discharge.

Is Forceful Explosions really necessary? I think I’d take something that increases DPS there.

On the Rune of Altruism wiki page, it says the cooldown is 15s and not the 10s stated in the tooltip. Have you tested it? Was it fixed in the patch?

What is the radius on these party aoe buffs?

I like the idea of your build. Personally, I might opt for the new Elixir Gun 4 as a blast finisher over one of the turrets, because that I think would be the best damage among the choices of Bomb Kit, Pistol/Shield, and Elixir Gun. I might also just go Grenadier though, and skip one of the blast finishers.

edit: With Grenadier, although you’d only be able to offer 12 Mights (instead of 15) per rotation (and I suppose 6 fewer than your perma 20-25 Might claim), you’d also be able to put 20ish stacks of Vulnerability on the enemies because of Steel-Packed Powder.

But all those things take time.

The low-level events of Fire Elemental, Maw, and Behemoth takes no time at all.

The biggest culprits are Maw and Fire Elemental, since they have like a 30-minute respawn timer. Which makes it incredibly easy to find a server to guest to where those events are about to happen.

As can be seen from the ecto price crash, numbers of rares in the economy have DEFINITELY increased.

We’ll see. I think that market is still sorting the patch out.

Since the initial sell-off, which was obviously driven more by guesses about the future of ectos than by an actual increase in farmed rares (only a handful of rare-guaranteed dragons had even spawned at that point), the price has only dropped about 3s. I suspect it will rebound slowly.

In any event, I think people thought ectos would truly tank. They’ve only fallen about 7s or 8s since pre-patch. A serious drop, yes. But people on these boards had been predicting ectos in the teens.

I did the destroyer event chest run yesterday. There were like a hundred players involved. I got greens and blues at the end. I asked around if anyone got anything good. Only two replied that they got crap drops. If someone got all rares I expect them to yell in chat but no one did. Did rare drop rate really increase?

The megadestroyer and Arah chests did not get buffed for some reason. They still only drop blues.

Here is a list of chests that have a >90% chance of dropping a rare:

1. Jormag
2. Shatterer
3. Sunless
4. Jungle Wurm
5. Hydra Queen
6. Shadow Bohemoth
7. Maw
8. Fire Elemental
9. Grenth
10. Lyssa
11. Melendru
12. Dwayna
13. Balth

So each character can get at least 13 additional rares a day over what they could before the patch. I usually get closer to 20 a day now. I’ve gotten 100 ectos since the patch playing only casually.

But all those things take time. The Jormag event takes an eternity. Even with dragon timers, there are still hordes of players waiting around for Teq and Shatt to start for 10+ minutes. All this reduces your rares-per-hour, and totally tanks your gold farm in general.

Cursed Shore (on my server at least) has been basically abandoned due to more Champ and Vet spawns since the patch. I used to be able to make quite a few rares per hour just hanging around Penitent / Shelter / Jofast. It’s much more difficult to do that now.

I’m starting to think that this patch didn’t increase the number of rares being farmed as much as it seemed initially.

Any group (besides a CoF 1 farm run) that leaves out a Grenadier is making a huge mistake and you don’t want to run with those dummies.

When I throw grenades, I see many smaller numbers — i.e. each individual grenade’s dagmage. But I’ve seen youtubes where people get the total damage on a target added up. Does anyone know how to toggle display of damage numbers? I want to see bigger numbers!

I’ve searched and searched the options menu but can’t figure this out…

Fun times at the TP after the patch notes were announced, including this mysterious sentence: “Black Peppercorns no longer drop from Mature Herb and Verdant Herb nodes.”

Well, that was all the market needed for hilarity. There must have been at least 70k supply available for less than 10c a piece early on. Price shot up to 50c, back down to 15c, and then way, way back up. Sell price was at 70c last I checked.

Seems to me like PvE guilds can pretty easily be cross-server.

Please elaborate. Most times on the forums, I hear people complain that Engineers are bad for WvW, though I happen to disagree. But I don’t disagree for food buff reasons. Which food do you like?

If you go Grenadier, you automatically get 20-25 Vulnerabilities. This is 20-25% more group damage. This is a MEGA ability. Groups without Grenadiers do not achieve this kind of Vulnerability unless they are like 4 GS warriors. (Is this accurate? I can’t think of many classes that are capable of this, but I’m not an expert at every class.)

Vulnerability stacking makes bringing along a Grenadier like bringing along a 6th player to the fight. That alone should make the Engineer one of the most sought-after classes in an LFG.

When I run direct damage it consists of running through the Rifle, Grenade, and Tool Kit damage cooldowns most often.

I always wonder whether it’s worth it to carry a rifle. While I like the Rifle skills, and appreciate what you’re attempting to do in terms of maximizing the use of big-hitter skills, I have to wonder whether it’s worth the loss of a sigil, and whether it’s worth the loss of 1500 range. In other words, a rifle needs to at least better than a Sigil of Fire (fire explosions every 5 seconds… 1k damage every 5 seconds, as I recall. Call it 200dps.) or Sigil of Force (blanket +5% damage… if you have 5k dps, figure this is worth 250dps), and by an amount great enough that it’s worth the extra up-close danger for my glass cannon build. (I mean, if we weren’t factoring in danger and degree of difficulty, we’d all be using Kit Refinement for 100nades, but I find this to result in me getting downed a ton.)

However, when my Grenade Barrage, Throw Wrench, Grenade 2, Grenade 4, and Grenade 5 are all on cooldown, and I’m left with mainly Grenade 1, I do have to admit that my DPS clearly suffers.

Maybe I’ll give it a go and test.

Oh, I know, I’ll just use the in-game DPS meter.

Oh wait, no I won’t. This game doesn’t have any meaningful way to figure out your DPS.

And to the OP, I run 30/5/0/5/30 Static Discharge build. Most of my dungeoning these days is pugging FotM 26’s and 28’s for the daily. And my best guess is that I lead the DPS in those things almost always.
