Maybe engi is not my main, but I play him a lot. It really doesn’t bother me, if static discharge and HGH get nerfs, because I knew it’ll get nerfs, and I didn’t even start playing with these builds. Oh, and HGH looks kinda hard, and I’m not even in top1000, so I thought it’ll be too hard for me.
How I know, that these builds will get nerfs? Every effect from traits and sigils is getting some kind of cooldown. It has to be the same this time.
Will there be a day, when people has started playing build, that suits them, and are not considered by meta?
@John +1
@Amadeus thanks for the idea with popcorn, +1
New dungeon, located close to new waypoint on snowden drifts.
Ele, lol, meet rangers with 100 jumps, when you don’t have even swiftness. You know, I love playing engi and necro, but they both kitten, when ranger takes the orb.
Timer on treb would be cool, especially with mesmer blink – portal trick, which repair treb in less than 10 seconds. It’s ridiculous. And treb itself wins clock tower fights.
I’m a pve and pvp player with champion title, so I know a thing or two about playing.
What happened after last patch is crazy. I constantly solo queue with low levels, who don’t read chat and don’t try to cooperate.
I’m not saying pvp community don’t need new players. We do. I usually play with my guild, trying to get new players – sometimes 3 “>20” rank with 2 “<10” rank, on voice communication. If they can do, what they’ll told to, they’re ok. They get tutorials from one of 3 guys, who know, what’s going on.
Now, let see, what’s going now on tournaments. People, who never played tournament, don’t get any tutorial, because there’s no any. Sorry to say this, but that’s ANet fault. I like, what devs are doing to the game, but without decent tutorials, there won’t be better game. I remember, when I started playing LoL – I had to play tutorial, then play with AI, then with really low ranked people. It was ok, I had time to get, what’s going on. There were lots of videos about the strategies, etc. There’s no any of that in GW2 – new player can get stomped by really experienced players, not learning anything by that.
I’m sad after loosing 8 matches, played with <10 rank players, against average 30 rank players. It was no fun, I couldn’t do anything to change it, because you can’t win that kind of match solo. I hope all theese new players, who doesn’t wan to learn, will leave HoTM after 1st april.
No, Rotbeard don’t spawn “daily” chest, while normal chest still has a chance to give rare.
Some people don’t understand, that there are players, who do both – pve and pvp. I kinda like playing pvp, when pve starts making me sad. I would totally love getting small rewards for winning tournees in pvp, which I can use in pve, just to reduce the feeling of misery from not choosing most profitable activity. 10 s for 2-teams tournament would be cool already – since you can do cof#1 and earn ~60s in less time. You can do anything in pve to earn more in the time of one tournament.
I just don’t want to be punished for playing pvp – especially if I only need to farm rank points to get new skins, because I’ve got almost everything on my rank.
Blacktide has open Balthazar.
Just got tower taken by Ring of Fire server, on Ring of Fire, by mesmer’s portal + zerg.
That was guild with PI shortcut. Not cool.

That’s “unstopable” stomps, not unstopable. It’s a nice base to think about differences between classes. Thanks for it.
Also, you should add, as mention before, Plague and Lich stomps. I think, that’s only viable stomp necro has atm.
There will be flame war over this thread, because of elementalists, engis and mesmers, who love their “god mode” stomp, because it shows, they are prepared better for stomping.
Every week same thread…
If something has no counter, it’s op. Period.
Using mist form or any other invul stomp is not a waste of skill. You prevent rezzing this one player, it’s effective way to win.
One thing is wrong: taking some skills for battle, that are mostly used for stomping, not for regular fight. Would ele use mist form often when holding point? Not really, because of not taking point while being invul.
On the other hand I’m ok with all stability and stealth stomps.
Last thing, I separate effectivness of classes by their state. I’m looking at surviving stomps, not being able to rally but their own. It’s still pretty important thing, because if you stay longer in equall fight, your team can rez you.
in first few seconds after getting downed:
mesmer, thief, ele (downed) > every other class standing
guardian, ranger (downed) > classes with no access to invul and stability standing
necro, warrior, engi (downed) = classes with no access to invul and stability standing
Looking at access to invul, stability and quickness.
mesmer, ele, engi (standing) > guardian, ranger, necro, warrior, engi (downed) [sic!]
guardian, warrior, ranger (standing) > guardian, ranger, necro, warrior, engi
necro (standing) = guardian, ranger, necro, warrior, engi
Can you guy tell me, how this is balanced? We can argue about second and third lines, but not about first, right?
Don’t take anything from existing tournaments. Just create something like 1 v 1 team w/ or w/o chest price. 10 – slots hotjoins could be made that way: you wait for two full teams, get 20 seconds for taking a strategy, and then start a match. It will take not as much time, as waiting for free tournament. Waiting is the pain for all of us.
This should resolve some problems. People will still loose vs good teams, but after some time with ranking system (this invisible one) fights with much better teams won’t be a problem.
Remeber that people don’t play only to win. I don’t like playing vs teams that will loose significantly, like 500 vs 100. Quick example: I have 22. rank, my friends got ranks 15, 27, 33, 5. We’re a pre-made team. If we win vs ranks < 20 with significant point difference, we’re not really happy. If we win vs team with ranks >40, even with huge point difference, we feel that we did great.
You expect people in PUG to know that? No. Playing with your premade or a decent PUG is far from what you will get from average PUG. You know how many times when I queue solo I see three people in my group rush to cap our node and the other one engaging Svanir only to get stomped and get it stolen by enemy invading party? When you PUG you will encounter warriors who cant press anything else than 100 blades button. You will encounter glass cannon elementalists trying to snipe you with their staff skills. You will encounter thieves who apparently got all they keyboard keys bound to Heartseeker. And so on and so forth. Such teams will never win vs. a premade. And such teams needs to be separated from good teams in queues. Becouse it does not matter if you are a gosu gamer or a monkey. You should still get your portion of fun, just on a different level of rewards gained.
I know that feeling, I play with pugs too. What you can do is try to educate them. You’re not looking at the subject here. It’s not premade team > not premade team. It’s good team > bad team.
That’s one of the most absurd idea I ever heard. You don’t have premade team? Is it my fault? No. So why should I be punished because of that?
I’m running frees with my guildmates, but for most of the time we’ve got 3 guys, who play 1 hour each day and 2 guys, who just start playing. We still have problems in winning 3rd round, because we meet more experienced players there. You know what happens, when we go to paid? We get nothing but pain.
Another absurd idea: don’t let players above 35 or 40 rank play frees, because they’re too good. That’s the same.
You know what’s the problem? Afkers and guys, who don’t know how to read chat, don’t want to get any strategy, and doing dumb mistakes. Another problem is that we’re not able to communicate inside the fight, only by using chat and pings. That’s the job for ANet to give us an option to communicate things like “2 guys on henge” or “retreat”, or “don’t go there”. Now people who have voice communication have great advantage over people, who doesn’t.
Mufa.1326 isn’t your main character a thief?
I’m not just curious, I want a clear statement. Because thing you say doesn’t look like you were playing all the classes.
1.
necros are in general weaker class in 1v1 so maybe they would not get any nerf or much weaker nerf for their ‘first target AOE dmg’ than elementalists or mesmers. Of course all AOE builds should get nerf in the sense of diminishing returns on multiple target (in other words their scaling from 1v1 to 5v5 should not be 5x but much weaker).
I should stop reading after first sentence. They are not weaker in 1v1 fights. They’re balanced. It’s builds like backstab thief and shatter mesmer are unbalanced. Or should I ask, what build is viable in 1v1 fights?
2.
Yes, if AOE was to get nerfed properly, many current AOE spammers who are pathetic players would stop being ‘viable’ in their teams. But that is due to their lack of skill, not really a balance problem.
I don’t get it. You’re trying to say something about balance, and then you start saying that gamers, who give you hard time, are pathetic. Isn’t that unfair? Sometimes “push every button” strategy can be the best strategy, sometimes not. If your skills are single target in team fights you’ll snipe people one by one, if you’ve got aoe you will try to weaken the opponents.
Stop generalizing. You’re trying to fix your issues with “one button”, when this is affected by basics of this game design. How you’ll nerf condition dealing aoe? How will you nerf aoe that doesn’t deal damage at all? What will be next, making all aoe damage too little to make a difference for a warrior or thief?
I know what would help a bit, showing aoe as a big red circles, because most of the time I can’t see, which aoe is from my team, and which are not. And you can’t counter an invisible enemy (someone should say “like countering a thief”).
Yeah, nerf AoE and make the only reasonable builds, i.e. for necros, unreasonable.
Now I’m able fight bad players on my point and help my team on team fight. Nerf aoe and there will be zergfest again, because aoe damage dealers will not be viable anywhere else.
Nerf aoe end I will have 3 skills that do anything in 1v1 fight – most necro skills are aoe. So, you think necro’s ranged builds (scepter/dagger or warhorn + staff) shouldn’t be able to fight with thief or mesmer, or any other burst damage dealers?
I belive engineers have the same problems with their granade and bomb kits.
2. Invulnerable ppl should not be able to stomp/rez (no mist form stomping, no mist form rezzing).
I see what you’re saying, and I agree with everything but this. If the idea is to have to interrupt rezzers/stompers , then the rezzers/stompers need an equal counter — invulnerability.
Counter for interrupt should be stability, which can be countered by “boon to condition” type of skill or “boon rip” type of skill, which can be countered again by “condition to boon” and so on. Invul rezzing has no counter, and I don’t thing that’s intended. If you can’t rez/stomp someone having already invul, you shouldn’t be able to get it in the middle of rezzing / stomping.
As a pve player and partially pvp player I can say something.
In pve it’s my “panic button”, when I know I’ll have hard time with huge group of mobs, with darkness and chill I’m almost invulnerable vs melee fighting mobs.
And now for pvp.
Maybe it’s not as op as some elementalist skills, but it’s still crazy op in group fights. Even in 1 on 1 fights it’s really good, since you can stay in the middle of a point, you want to cap. if anyone want to kill you during those 20 seconds, he’ll have to get out of the point. If you’re countering thief, he’s mostly out of options, and bleeding with poison can take him down in a minute. I always laugh when ele try to use his huge aoe skill and fail because of blind.
And never underestimate chill.
It has few counters, for example I use to change necros stability to fear and then spam conditions. If he’s not so good, he’ll surerly die. If he knows, how this works, he will get out of plague more quickly, which is still some kind of win.
Wells:
- If you’re fighting against one player wells won’t do anything to him, because it’s an aoe and shouldn’t be use like this.
Marks:
- Range decreased to 900, area of effect of Greater Marks decreased by 20 %
Lich form:
- Grim Specter’s toolbox now looks: “Send out a claw that explodes on impact”, because not curing conditions and nor ripping off boons is working as intended.
Plague:
- Radius is decreased by 20 % and now can trigger up to 3 enemies (like the rest of the aoe)
- Now ticks every 2 seconds, and have a chance to not cause blind with "Plague of Darkness " on autoattack.
Overall:
- All AoE skills can now trigger up to 3 people, but no less than 2. Just in case necro is useful on WvW we had to nerf it.
- Projectile of staff 1# skill now goes a little bit slower, because some people didn’t see it coming before their hp loos.
- Thief attack make damage to health points, even when you’re in ds.
- Thiefs can now go through marks on stealth without targeting it.
- Buff for ranger pet rezzing, because sometimes 2 necros were able to kill the ranger.
- AoE in fights vs mesmers now triggers only clones and illusions.
- Macros are allowed. Some thiefs are frustrated about killing other people, because they sometimes have to press more than one button. With a recent update they’ll be able to make a macro for whole unavoidable combo.
Please hear this need for help.
A frenchie here, who fought Blacktide on their T1 days and now back on his birthland of Jade See.
Whatever you may think about bandwagonners or however actual Blacktide see themselves (rat trying to scrape points, really ?). Those people still on this server keep fighting despite being heavily outnumbered. HEAVILY.
People with such fighting spirit do not deserve what happened to Blacktide. They do not deserve to be left aside. They deserve respect. And hopefully some helping hands…Raise up your head Blacktide. As Genotix said it you’re the decent remaining people. Keep up fighting ’til better days. Good luck.
Um, thanks. I belive we met somewhere after server reset. For like few hours I was there with my guildmates. We were trying to make interesting fight with both of French servers. Sad thing is, there was like 12 of us (even with random guys, there wasn’t more than 15 of us) vs 30 people in zerg just like almost all the time.
I think Blacktide in just few weeks will be a server you’re looking for.
Hi,
I have this problem since the begining. When I try to type in my language (Polish) in chat, it doesn’t show some strictly polish letters, like “?” or “?”. However, it does show correct message in “cloud”. I had this problem on two computers, if that’s any help.
Greetings!
Krzysztof
If you want something difficult and frustrating try the Necro or Engineer.
man people say that but my guild leader is a Bleed/lifesteal Necro. and she may not be all that when it come’s to single combat when it come’s to group play her Fields keep all of us alive with there lifesteal and Regan and she has easily the most servivabilaty of ANY ONE i have ever seen play
It’s not like necro isn’t fun. That’s not, what they just said. Some people like comedys, others like melodrama (comparing warriors and necro/engi).
I’m running necro in dungeons too, and sometimes, when I see another necro in party I think “It’s hard to believe that he’s good”. Especially mm build, or glass canon. And if I see anyone not at 80 lvl I’m thinking about not going with him too. Not because necro is bad, it’s because player, who doesn’t now his class, can be really bad.
I’ve go wells / lich form build now – so I’ve got two offensive wells, signet of undeath (for the sake of glass canons) and lich form as elite (for quite good damage, better with mesmers time warp)
You aren’t safe in stealth. You just can’t be targeted. You can still be hit with direct damage, CC’d and AOE’d.
I would suggest playing a Thief and maybe you can see what I am talking about.
I tried, stomping as a thief is not as difficult as stomping as a necro. Stealth is still much better than nothing.
question is: when should a necro stomp? btw necro can blind opponents. blind blocks antistun skills.
Have you try doing that?
My question is: why some classes are not designed to stomp? (looking at their efficiency in doing this)
Is it only me, who thinks, that saying that necro can use stability is a little bit wrong?
There’s stability on one trait, and you cannot stomp being in ds, so you just have to turn on and off immediately.
I’m not saying here, that something is op, or not. I’m just saying, that comparing stealth to necro’s stability is not smart.
God, as a necro, I’m so offended by this thread. I’m really tired of reading all this “necros are useless” in this thread.
Necro has two fear skills, which he can use everytime Powersuit is healing. And people can count on it. (900 range, 240 aoe with specific trait). Additionally I can keep him aggroed in a position, if nobody has skill to do this job (using ds, I can be close to him for few second). Of course I would rather use my sylvari immobilize skill, but I don’t have to. Oh, and aoe Signet of Undeath, instantly reviving even 3 people at once from a distance. And a lich form, which can make about 20k per hit with high power, precision and crit damage (not as good as warrior, but I will get to that).
Another thing is having thief jumping in 1 second to device. Again, with right group it can make the fight really simple.
Bad thing is that warrior with mesmer’s quickness can make 80k per hit for 10 seconds. That makes them being too usefull. Of course that’s just my opinion and lots of people will shout at me for saying this. But this is not the problem with boss design, rather problem with class being unbalanced.
Oh please, 2x necro + 2x mesmer can be amazing team in fractals. And that’s because of portals and quickness. 20 sec. of quickness + 2x Lich Forms can do extreme dps to a single target.
And of course the problem with getting stuck in textures, where mesmer’s portals can do miracles.
They’re not amazing boon givers / condition removers, but have different role. And they can be crutial.
FotM lvl2, 3rd fractal – Ascalon. After teleporting us to the last fractal, we weren’t turn to our original forms. We stayed as chars.
As a Char, you can’t pick up crystal, so at the end Maw killed us and reset. (We almost killed it by killing tentacles)
Fix needed.
ANet, we’re waiting for a patch. It’s painful, getting swiftness against my will in CT.
