i lost about 200 dmg on a crit on shortbow after a patch a couple days ago. the initial hit for the shortbow was nerfed slightly.

the numbers on BARRAGE are per tick. that’s the AOE in longbow. RAPID FIRE in longbow is cumulative damage. my barrage will kill a glass-cannon guardian or elementalist if they just stand in it.

as i try to level up a couple alts through the asura areas i’m finding them to be severely overtuned compared to the others – especially easy-mode human

in metrica province, there is a lab that spawns 5 inquest packs at a time. it’s a non-event. they spawn every 78 seconds (timed). two to three of them are grenadiers that just instantly pop you. mind you, this is a level TEN area

there is an escort quest after you get a crystal from a previous event chain. being all alone on this, the 2nd stage spawned 3 turrets, 4 mini golems and a large golem. all were spamming some sort of negative energy beam that hit for 140 each. it’s a quest and you have to keep the guy alive. you can’t revive him, he dies it fails. he is popped near-instantly and then you are afterwords. you see 8×139 damage on the combat log at once. this is level 11. mid hp players have about 900 health. due note the refire rate is about 1.5s on this so you can not infinitely dodge it unless you are some perma-vigor down-ranked level 80.

in brisban, bandits routinely hit for 1-1.2k when players have 1.8k health on average. oftentimes this comes from a ranged mob you don’t see and can’t avoid because the bandit packs are tight and spawn about as fast as they do in orr. problem with this is there are not enough players in the asura lands to justify this respawn rate or anyone to res you when you get instantly popped by a rifle out of your field of view (yes scrolled all the way out, trolls).

my downlevelled 80’s have a little harder time here than others, but they are geared in exotics. my legit-level asura i take to human lands now and prob will never do their personal stories. yes i know others made it through, but don’t feed me lines of bull that it was a cake-walk. i’ve seen first hand. even sent a buddy who was saying how easy the game was in the norn starting areas over to metrica. he got frustrated very quickly with the condition-stacking inquest (hint: not only do a few classes have little to no spammable condition removal, but some don’t get access to it until 20. this is a 10-15 zone)

please take a pass at the asura areas and readjust them to be more in line with content that players that level with single stat gear should be facing.

before 25 it matters little what you use

however for large group events the iwarlock is a beast. well except maybe claw of jormag? from what i could tell no conditions stacked on that bad boy.

don’t understand inspiration though. with only one phantasm out the regen has a long cooldown between applications and does not last very long at all.

and since greatsword 3 also removes boons i’m not sure that argument holds water for sword.

What in mesmers is OP?

my rangers barrage does over 14k damage in an aoe if people are too dumb to move out it.

don’t worry. rangers will be called op next. especially if they ever allow melee pets to hit a moving target

I'm seeing a lot of sadness about Scepters. Here's a 101 on them if it's a weapon you've never really used.

i can’t quote him for some reason, but the second poster in this thread said that the clone from the scepter auto attack is replacing phantasms

if this is happening that is a bug and you need to report it. other clones never overwrite phantasms.

guardian lack of a viable ranged weapon that works beyond 600 keeps them from being op imo

and no, scepter is not viable ranged. it travels insanely slow and generates no symbols to combo out of. the orbs from the auto attack do hit decently hard – if they land. but it had better be a stand-still boss.

luckily in the nastier encounters like claw of jormag anet also added packs of champions and veterans for guardians to play around with while everyone else plinks at that dragon with real ranged.

Sword/pistol and Dual Swords.

the only issue i have with having a melee weapon at all is the number of mobs and encounters where beign in melee range is just a bad idea.

i wish mesmers could have three weapons in combat. i would love gs/staff/sword+pistol and sword+focus. wait, that’s 4 weapons.

level 80 requires a lot of farming to get your exotic gear and legendaries. even if you plan to just roll up another alt at some point you will want to gear out one or all of your characters.

necros are unbeatable in farming ability. they have the most and shortest cooldown aoe’s that hit hard enough on the initial cast to guarantee a tag and a loot chance if it pops.

they are insane farmers whether the DE’s, the trolls or just whatever is in reach in the shores.

the game is different 1-25, changes again at 60 then again at 75+ depending on if you open up orr at appropriate levels.

warriors feel OP because the passive regen on their healing signet heals for more than any other regen out there right now, ticking for 38 at level 6 which allows yo uto sit there and let a same level mob beat on you and you outheal the damage. this changes later, and even warriors need to circle-kite some of the risen or just straight break out a rifle for claw of jormag.

the ranger glyph is only 10%. you can hardly tell a difference with it on or off. on my ranger in orr i generally equip the condition removing glyph and two traps because our pets don’t actually tank anything – risen ignore attempts to tank them and run after the nearest player. so, lots of traps.

therefore i rely on warhorn to get me around, just like the focus line of death

thieves are the masters of exploring. stealth, teleports from shortbow limited only by initiative and a 25% speed signet, and no clones keeping them in combat after they stealth.

i would like to make a mesmer for my second 80. the complexity of the class appeals to me after getting a ranger to 80.

however i’m concerned about the lack of aoe’s in the class, at least decently recharging aoe’s for tagging and looting

i’ve had a ticket open about this since the very hour early release went live. it’s been closed and re-opened by support so many times

i too wa stupid and deleted my first made character while having all of the DDE items in her inventory. i then spent money on the gem store and spent 2k gems hoping to get th emback. never sent

so out 2000 gems, and no pup/tomes. and no help from customer service.

Guardians have lower base HP but the regeneration from Virtue of Resolve makes up for it. It all else fails, the heal from it as well. Don’t even need to mention all the other sources of regeneration the class has free access to. At the end of the day, you’ll have around the same amount of hit points to spend, probably more.

Your point being? A guardian doesn’t use up a slot for it.

technically neither does a warrior. healing signet is also their heal ability and has HALF The cooldown of the guardian condition removal+heal healing ability.

If Guardians would get same hp base as warriors, I would reroll in a heartbeat.

Guardians are by far the hardest thing to kill for me (warrior) and I rather just run away from 1v1 against them than try to hit that brickwall.

OP obviously doesn´t know how to play his class, if he has survivability issues.

No self-respecting warrior uses 100B tbh.
It´s Sword/Axe or sword/shield warriors that people should be afraid of.
100B is so easy to get away from.

there is more to the game than the random 1v1 in WvWvW

in the WvWvW zerg game a warrior is a lot more enjoyable to play than a guardian if the dynamics of the fight require you to spend most of your time at ranged

in explorables the shout healing build or banner healing builds + the boons those banners give can not be ignored. a warrior could – in a tough dungeon – go longbow+rifle and not kitten themselves. not so for a guardian for whom the best group utility is tied to all melee weapons (except some in the staff)

perhaps some like to think that the gimmick, soon to be fixed virtue of justice blind spamming build is the way to go in explorables. yeah? do sorrows embrace. oh i almost forgot, a thief with a pistol offhand does it better because they do not require a killing blow for their blind ability to reset.

i don’t see how the lower health is compensated in the least. i’m playing both classes btw.

why would you facepalm that? warrior can run around full time with a rifle or longbow and not kitten themselves. you run around full time with a staff or scepter as a guardian and you ARE kittening yourself

just use two melee weapons you say? just did an event in an asura area. it’s not a group event. escort a busted golem and take out the inquest that sabotaged him. event spawns a giant. this giant chain pbaoe knocks down and pbaoe fears. you can not melee him. at all. and here i am with gs/mace+focus unable to do ANYTHING to the giant.

That’s why theres traits that reduce CDs and make the ability last longer.

and yet warrior healing signet is substantially higher passive regen than anything guardians have AND is a heal on a 20s cd vs. 40s for guardian. and on a class with viable ranged and 20s cd shouts that grant huge healing when used…

just had one hit me for 1.1k. i was running pasesd it trying to avoid. he was alone. instant rifle shot 1.1k.

bandits in kessex hills don’t hit this hard. remove these abilities.

1.1k on a level 23. that’s how hard the ranged mobs in orr hit.

oh nice even better. veteran bandit event. i’m a guardian and i’m rollin gs/hammer+focus because the ranged optoins are not actually options. the bandit was level 20 i’m 23

the bandit ran up to me and dropped a bomb. i avoided it. she ran upt o me and did it again. i evaded again. now out of endurance. she did it again. teh bomb exploded istantly and knocked me down. 500 dmg. before i could get up she had another down on me and it exploded.

it’s like a bad game of pvp with chain cc. the asura and sylvari areas are all i need for 100% world completion and i decided to roll a new character to do them. apparantly this was not a smart move and i can see now why so many moved to queen and kessex instead of doing them on their asura/sylvari at launch

this will be my second 80

i’m in the brisban wildlands on my 23 guardian fighting 23 bandits. the rifle bandits are hitting me for 800 a shot. it’s not avoidable and there is no tell if it’s a charged shot.

i’m in fully mastercraft level 20 gear a mix of vit/tough/power on jewelry, armor and weapons. i have 2k health. two rifleman means instant death.

the bandit mobs are packed tightly enough that you don’t only get the two rifleman.

it was nothing like this in kessex. bandits do not hit this hard there.

btw i’m playing a guardian.

when you are all alone in the area and the spawn density is 3 – 4 – 3 – 5 all over and they constantly insta-gib you, how do you expect this game to have any long-term viability being that punishing to lowbie chars?

this is damage that my 80 receives in Orr and should not be what a char receives in a level 20 zone

fix this.

Spirits got nerfed hard from BWE to live because they were really, really effective. I trust that ANet will find the happy medium somewhere, but for now the little spirits are pretty squishy, and their range is really short.

Spirit of nature is simply amazing though. Only three other professions (ele, war, necro) have the aoe insta-res, but ranger is the only one that can use it up to three times within its CD. These insta-resses are invaluable in wvw, dungeons, and for getting NPCs back on their feet in PvE. I will grant you, though, that its other effects are a bit lackluster (one condition removed on activate, very low aoe healing).

As others in this thread have noted, the utilities the OP mentioned are fine and dandy skills, they just tend to be more situational. Having 8/20 skills be generally useful isn’t bad when you only have 3 slots. Swap to the other 12 only when they’re appropriate. That’s kind of why the out-of-combat skill switching is around, after all.

you can’t use it three times if the spirit dies to aoe.

[Bug] Obstructed!!

constantly i get ‘Obstructed’ when i have clear line of sight to a target and there is nothing between myself and it. the issue seems to be totally random as it can happen on inclines – up or down – or completely flat terrain.

check the beginning of this video for an example and why it’s extremely frustrating to play a ranger in this game because of it.

Seriously, get better at the game…this is pathetic and hurts to read.

then remove the teleport. hearseeker spamming thieves are unstoppable. wouldn’t be so bad if heartseeker didn’t do as much damage as it did and was more a gap closer OR it kept it’s current damage and gap closing but had a cooldown.

they nerfed hundred blades and put most of its damage on the last couple of hits precisely because it became the go-to ability for all warriors in pvp. you are a little daft if you think nothing is going to happen to heartseeker.

game has a terrible aggro system. people dont just train them on pets, they train them on other nearbye players. mob aggro is based on closest pc.
