no actually it is not. all damage in this game varies. crit chance and crit damage over a period of time has to be averaged out. rng variations have to be averaged out. input lag, server side lag and straight missing need to be accounted for.
if you had any experience in these matters i would not have to explain any of that to you.
I don’t think you understood my post, but it was only loosely related to the thread so n/m. No use arguing about it.
your ‘metrics’ are a poor substitute for an actual parse. crit chance is not static it’s subject to the random number generator. an ability like mind spike has to be manually aimed and is not fired perfectly on cooldown if your target has moved or you have. these are things taht a simple calculation will not show, but an actual parse over 10 minutes would.
If you’ve not played WoW much, you should probably read the discussions about simulations vs parses vs actual performance on Elitist Jerks. Especially the Warlock forum used to go quite deep into those due to the differences in DoT-heavy damage output versus direct damage output in that regard.
To sum it up briefly: What you say is universally accepted and part of the Disclaimer of any damage theory discussion. It’s so universally accepted and pervasive that bringing it up as a counter-argument is futile in the sense that we are all very much aware of it.
To relate back to this topic, a parse would not change the issues you describe. Not at all. It would only highlight them, as it would show the difference between what happens ingame, how it is not related to what happened before or will happen the next time (for the largest part, combat in MMOs is a stateless system if compared between disconnected time slices), and how it compares to simulations.
But, it’s “ok” that this doesn’t change the issues. It’s part of what you accept when you theorize about damage. It’s the limitation of the whole idea of theorycrafting.
i dont understand why you responded to me at all when i was talking to easymodex who implied that parsing is not needed.
That’s sustained based on cooldown and ignores baseline damage output between the casts of the special ability you’re looking at.
A more granular scenario would be something like a random skill A (let’s call it “Mirror Blade”) takes 0.75s to execute and hits for 3500 * 2 every 4.8s. Random skill B (let’s call it “Winds of Chaos”) hits for [1200+419] in 0.75s. Random skill C (let’s call this one “Spatial Surge”) hits for 3500 in 1.0s every 1.0s.
In a given 10 second interval, skill A fires twice (1.5s) for 14000 damage with skill C filling the gaps (8s) for 28000 damage. Spamming skill B for 10 seconds would net around 21047.
Spamming A + C is around 42k damage in 10s, and B is about half that. So half dps.
Edit: For individual metrics; MB’s DPS for its animation becomes 9333, with WoC at 2159. Maybe I should have originally said 4×.
The bottom line is that many players don’t realize that when using a Staff, you have exactly 1 button from 1-5 that deals anything more than a dribble of power-based damage, and that is iWarlock. Everything else is negligible damage.
When you use GS, you have 4 buttons that deal ‘solid’ power damage. Mirror Blade is almost as potent per cast in direct damage as using a phantasm. Bonus points being that it can be used every 4.8s [traited], unlike phantasms.
your ‘metrics’ are a poor substitute for an actual parse. crit chance is not static it’s subject to the random number generator. an ability like mind spike has to be manually aimed and is not fired perfectly on cooldown if your target has moved or you have. these are things taht a simple calculation will not show, but an actual parse over 10 minutes would.
dps is not burst. until these devs give us the actual tools to log combat and parse it internally or externally you have nothing but anecdotes to go from. best you can do is fraps a target dummy fight using only one ability, bring it into a video editor with a time scale and do the math on that single ability on it’s own. example: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ybQ9gh2oN0g
mb does not hit for twice the dps. you can’t calculate dps in this game because there is no way to combatlog and parse
If Attack A hits every 10 seconds for 1000 damage and Attack B hits every 30 seconds for 6000 damage, then B does 2x the DPS of A.
Easy as that. :P
no actually it is not. all damage in this game varies. crit chance and crit damage over a period of time has to be averaged out. rng variations have to be averaged out. input lag, server side lag and straight missing need to be accounted for.
if you had any experience in these matters i would not have to explain any of that to you.
24 hours, >150,000 ectos, > 9500 unique sellers.
Game. Set. Match.
We love you John!!!
It’s only game, set, match if the final data is provided that substantiates that the control of ectos is not controlled by a small minority, i.e., 2 guys could have traded 140k of those ectos with the remaining 10k being squabbled over by the 9498.
Stats can be used to prove or disprove anything (often the same thing). It’s all in how you present it. Not saying that’s the case here, but just saying.
You really think two guys have the time to spam 140,000 globs on the outpost? At a fixed price?
those of us who played eve online can actually think yes, two guys could be doing this
or one, who spent a couple hundred bucks converting gems to gold as an initial investment.
Eeerr bronze, silver, and gold actually. I have taken to gathering and taking everything off of what I kill and selling it on the market. It’s not super fast, but it gets me there.
What do you do?
crafting mats are worth more than crafted items
crafting pieces (bronze shoulder plates, chest pads, etc.) are worth more than a completed item due to people power levelling the crafting professions on their alts or to make legendaries.
50 dollars in gems is almost 60 gold atm.
if you are going buy the 2k gold legendaries that are featured on the trading post everytime you open it, don’t sweat those. nobody spends that amount of gold on a legendary.
this game does not have a grind.
no, a grind game takes 30-80 hours per level. this one takes less than an hour per level
a real grind game takes 400-600 hours to max your crafting with failure and total loss of materials as an option
trying to get your soldier the p90 unlock in battlefield 3 takes longer than leveling to 80 and having a full set of exotics in this game. i spent more time in skyrim than i did on my first 80 getting dryad armor.
hell, star trek online has more of a grind than this game. anyone who calls this game grindy should feel ashamed.
Why are mounts an absolute NO?
They add something to the world… I miss galloping around on my horse in other RPGs..yet.. gw2 is my favorite game. I wish I could do it here.
the maps are not actually that large. make a thief, ranger, engineer or warrior and you will see that they really are not as big as you think.
no need for mounts.
People have different definitions of grind and fun. They assume the devs have the same definitions as they do. Those who are upset ignored the context where those words were used in the manifesto (in reference to quests and combat).
Well if the terms are subjective then if I think they are a lie, they genuinely are lies (to me) right? If the terms are objective, then what is their predefined definition?
Why use subjective terms to market for any other reason except to be able to back peddle when the bottom line needs it?
The developers were quite specific in the manifesto video what they meant by grind. It’s not their fault that specificity was omitted or ignored when the word was circulated. They called simplistic combat systems found in older MMOs a grind. They said in older MMOs you had to go through the “boring grind” before you got to the “fun stuff”.
I keep hearing how the devs promised “no grinding for gear” yet there was nothing in the manifesto about gear.
Some quotes from the video starting from the beginning:
“…and if you hate MMOs you’ll REALLY wanna check out GW2.” (Implying that the typical things players hate about MMO’s would not be present).
“We take everything you love about GW1 and put it in a persistent world…” (One of THE MAIN things about GW1 was a hard level cap and very easy to obtain end game gear. In fact, that’s the only thing about GW1’s PvE that was truly unique to the game. In fact, what else could you name that they could be talking about?)
“We just don’t want players to grind in GW2.” (Pure marketing talk or lies when talking about ascended gear, one of the two).
“We do not want to build the same MMO that everyone else is building.” (This was related to the personal story directly, but it’s more enforcement that this game is really meant for the non-typical MMO players).
there is no grind in this game. i came to this game with no large guild only 2 friends and the wife of one of them. my first 80 was 80 in 72 hours played and full exotic gear 4 days after that – all crafted myself. my 2nd 80 was level 80 in 56 hours played (a mesmer btw, first was a ranger) and again full exotic gear less than a week after, all crafted myself.
my third 80 since one of my friends sucked me back into the game this week will be in the same boat as that mesmer, and im not using any of the resources gained on the other two to give it an advantage.
the game has a grind if you refuse to craft, refuse to gather and want to just purchase everything with gold from the trading post. the ‘grinding’ i did was about an hour each day on trolls. that’s not a ‘grind’. i can point to 2342q65263423432 korean games that have real grinds. even the daily and rep system in mists of pandaria are an actual grind compared to this game.
this game gives you all it’s going to give you very early and very quickly. only legendaries require effort and time – as they should – but are still 100% soloable. you need zero help from anyone or any guild to make a legendary in this game.
no, this game does not have a grind. too many of you younger mmorpg players simply want it all, want it right now and will not take no for an answer. you folks have forgotten the everquest level grind. the everquest skill grinds. the everquest crafting grinds. the daoc realm rank grind. the daoc crafting grinds. the swg holocron grind. those were grinds.
this is nothing. there’s more of a grind in ranking up a soldier in battlefield 3 than this game has in any of it’s aspects.
I’m divided on the removal of trinity. I liked it a bit but hated it as well.
I think Final Fantasy 13 had a very nice system, although it was a single player game. You still had roles like tank/heal/dps/debuffer/buffer etc… but the neat thing was that any character can fill these rolls. So throughout the battle you are constantly shifting roles to adapt to the situation for example:
Boss fight begins.
Everyone shifts to dps/debuff roles.
Boss starts doing some damage.
One person transforms to tank role.
Tank getting low on health.
Another person transforms to healer role.
Boss does a massive attack, full party left almost dead.
Everyone shifts to healer role to quickly recover.
the removal of the trinity itself is meaningless. technically the secret world has no trinity, but people select those roles in order to do group based content. defiance has no trinity, but it does have open world pvp (shadow war) and 50+ man pve content (arkfalls)
what is not meaningless is the lack of single and multi-group content and the lack of in-game tools to form and organize said groups.
I was just reading a short thread about someone getting bored with the lack of gear grind.
I smiled a bit inside.
Not everyone has the composure to farm the same banal content over and over until they have the bestest best baubles and lord it over people.
this is not the reason you raid. if this was your one and only reason to raid in any game that had raiding, you missed the point entirely
This game is for people that want to be on primarily equal footing.
no this game is for people who want a very relaxed game with easy attainable goals and no severe advantages to those with more time vs. those with less time. at no time will you be on equal footing to me especially since we do not know each others’ economic situations or how much the two of us can pump into this game money wise for endless gold as an example.
Take myself for example. I’m a tried and true “medium-core” gamer. I love a nice complex system and a few long-term goals to work toward but especially difficult content or unfriendly people cripplingly frustrate me. I can’t stand dungeons due to the incessant number of overpowered damage dealing "whatever"s, I’d be WILLING to try fractals if the elitists weren’t hoarding all the parties, that sort of thing.
this where it becomes contradictory. the majority of the game is very easy. the only challenge in this game are explorable dungeons and fractals. gamers need challenge. without challenge, the game stagnates faster.
in fact i know of no other mmorpg where – on any class – it’s an hour or less per level to max. maybe star trek online.
those ‘elitists’ are not, and this goes back to my point about raids.
And it turns out I don’t have to do things that way, I can get my gear for the most part from other content to get in a better spot and THEN try some of that harder content again IF I choose.
I’m happy for that personally. This game IS for me.
you’re right, the game in this manner IS geared for you because it makes the acquisition of gear meaningless beyond the cosmetic. once you have full exotics at 80 there is nothing else out there that will give you a meaningful increase in power.
and this may hurt the game long term. my lenghty friends list is almost completely empty now. they like the game, but they have nothing left to do. if the game didnt allow even a super casual hit 80 in less than 80 hours and if it wasn’t so easy to get in full exotics just a few days after 80 more players would have an incentive to continue playing. being an alt-aholic is actually not a normal behavior for mmorpg players – the majority of players have one favorite character they wish to stick with. if the game offers no further progression, they have a choice – play something else or leave.
Bah, slow builds = complainers.
Good boon duration + focus swapping + 1200 blink = faster than your zerg spamming speed skills.
Your typical mesmer:- 0% boon duration + no focus (or a smart one who swaps to focus when travelling, might even be traited) + no, or 900 range blink = complains on the forums, or takes runes of centaur/air much to the hate of mesmers who believe it’s a silly sacrifice to have to make.
All this to say that, sure there’s a problem, but there’s something to be said about the players build that’s a part of it. Also, leave Signet of Midnight alone. That’s 10% more boon duration right there!
Here’s a pro tip: 2x rune of monk, 2x rune of water, 2x rune of speed = 50% boon duration to speed (+30% to every other boon), + upwards of 30 points in chaos trait line = +80% swiftness duration (and 60% to all other boons).
Personally 50% bonus swiftness is plenty for me. I prefer a bonus 20% might duration instead.
you aren’t slotting boon duration runes when you are levelling. yes at 80 it’s feasible as are centaur runes if you have the gold or craft them yourself
however extra swiftness for pre 80’s would be nice, as would extra swiftness or travel for those that can’t afford the absurd price for the runes as they are now.
i levelled 30/30/0/0/10. just as viable as what you are using here. regardless of your spec it’s all bout high precision, clones on dodge and high damage, low cooldown burst.
guides are pointless imo. the bare minimum to level a mesmer effectively is 0/20/0/0/5. after that it’s all about what weapons you prefer to use.
btw, you don’t NEED to shatter to level quickly. my mesmer hit 80 in 57 hours played with zero crafting. yes it was my 2nd character, but my first asura and a different faction so it wasn’t an exact clone of my ranger (which hit 80 in only 72 hours played).
i rarely shattered unless i was in wvw or the phantasm is about to die. this is still how i play it.

6. Staff is a tank weapon. This is common knowledge. If you need more tank, go Staff. Switching from Staff to GS in a power-based shatter build basically increases your total damage output by 50%.
What? Your other points may have merit, but thats complete bullkitten. For shatters GS vs Staff theres zero difference. The buffs from staff and GS pan out, and chaos storm has a very good chance of giving you frenzy, which increases your dps by more than the weakness from GS 2.
Between GS and Staff, the shatters will deal similar damage.
GS phantasm will deal marginally more reliable damage.
GS AA will deal a little more damage.
Non-AAs will deal a kittenload more damage (MB tends to hit for about twice AA DPS, which is already higher than staff’s).
50% more is probably exaggerated. It’s probably like 33% more in reality.
mb does not hit for twice the dps. you can’t calculate dps in this game because there is no way to combatlog and parse
now if you meant to say it does double the damage, that’s another thing
dps != damage. dps is damage per second aka sustained damage.
ofc can, ppls play and with sceptr, im dont say what staff bad weopen. if u try condition build u must have staff (no more choise) . but 100% info gs 2nd wep for fast kill. 1st sword(shater)
are you typing on a cell phone? please don’t use text shorthand if you are on your computer, that’s just being lazy. most can cope with being too lazy to capitalize but ppls and ofc is just….at no time will it be considered acceptable unless you are posting from your phone.
anyway, greatsword is still good even for shatter builds. it’s my preferred weapon still.
what is boon punishment?
just play a longbow/rifle warrior
you can’t avoid it in pvp games
pve only games? you rarely hear about it
Low mobility is a mesmer weakness, deal with it. Can’t have everything of the cake.
low mobility AND almost no aoe?
pick one or the other. not both. none of the other classes have to give up TWO items over what they gain on mesmers
MMORPG Balance 101
as a mesmer i think anyone can see how this MINOR trait is insane OP right now, this even it was a elite trait would be OP but a minor trait? please just nerf this or otherwise soon everyone will play mesmer.
make it only 3 stack might full shatter, 9 stack might is just insane for a MINOR trait….
you’re not a mesmer
…are still far too high. mobs respawn as fast as you kill them.
some classes have no issue, especially those with lots of on demand regen that does not require you to stand in one place for the benefit, as well as those with the ability to stealth or that can us a lot of defense without sacrificing their ability to kill just ahead of the respawn rate
this leaves out enough classes that you NEED to lower the respawn rate in orr, especially malchor’s leap which is never visited.
None, Its like moving into your first apartment and seeing the shower looks all fancy/ new and shinning, then it not working for 3 months, then yes going back home the place you know that the old reliable shower works :P
Really? how quickly people forget the troubles that WOW had when it was released. It has only been three months. kitten people are impatient these days.
This game was in development for FIVE YEARS, ofc we are all mad that stuff doesn’t work right…. FIVE YEARS!
So wow was announced in 2001 and not released until 2004. At the time of release you often had to wait hours to log in to your account and server, random error messages and drop outs. They also released numerous patches over the coming months to address balance issues. It took a long time to get the game right.
I use WoW because it is a yard stick.
Just have a little patience GW2 hasn’t been out very long, its free to play and instead of a launch and forget they are addressing the issues periodically.
Also a bit of perspective. How many MMO’s are perfect upon release? give them a break with this kitten already.
You cant compare a game that is as crappy today as it was in 2004 to this. The ONLY reason that game EVER became popular was due to the heavy marketing. Had it not been for that, it wouldn’t have had a player base much higher then say Evercrack or FF. In 2004, of what I can remember we basically had, Internet space ships (Which is STILL an awesome game because the dev’s actually PLAY it) and Korean grindfest’s. So please, enough with “WoW”, it’s like the fricking minecraft of MMO’s…
Pet AI, will never work right…. ever. Lineage 2 is the ONLY game I’ve see where pets work and that’s only because they are 100% player controlled, outside of pathing.
Like the guy above me said, it’s 2012(3), not 2004. The ranger class’s dps shouldn’t be hampered by a completely worthless pet, at least in Guild wars 1 we had the OPTION of using pets, instead of being FORCED to, same goes with all the other games out there that use rangers and pets…
less with the hipster angst
world of warcraft is still one of the better holy trinity based raiding mmorpg’s on the market.
no mmorpg to date has done extensive marketing. you didn’t see WoW commercials until the night elf mohawk stuff started with wrath of the lich king.
guild wars 2 will never be like world of warcraft because it has no raiding. you can’t argue that point – it’s just a fact. the game also has a gear treadmill that doesn’t stop abruptly once you’ve done a few heroics or farmed a bit for your craft. i had two level 80’s in full exotics by the end of september here.
while both are mmorpgs, they are different animals entirely. while you may not have liked wow personally, it is far from a crap game. do not let ignorance taint your posts unless you were vying for a job at Fox News
this needs to be addressed, even if it’s a pve only change
I wonder if he no longer reads the Ranger Forums because he is afraid to show his face to us after his false promises.
Or he’s actually busy doing, I don’t know…coding on a test server to actually see if he can fix the problems? In other words, he may be pulling “less talk, more action”. Which would be very nice. But don’t expect any real responses until the next update patch on the 14th.
rangers, necros and now mesmers are pretty much equally broken in pve atm, with the caveat that at last necros and mesmers have a bit more utility options.
just dodge it as he is about to fire
because that wariror is clearly the ONly other opponent on the battlefield and of course your attention was 100% on that warrior at all times.
amirite?
Fyi, the delay on first attack has been present since BWE2. It is there for balance reasons to give enemies a moment to react to the powerful summon.
I find this statement somewhat facetious, since it’s impossible to properly react to a quickness-fueled bullrush-100 blades-stomp. do you plan to put a 1s delay on the beginning of hundred blades as well since that is an ability that trumps all others in damage-per-activation across this entire game?
unless that’s all we will be seeing when this game hits the pro circuit – 8v8 gs warriors.
truthfully you had no business monkeying around with mesmer damage in any way, shape or form with the current state of the game. for anyone that the mesmer is their only 80, farming for needed money/gear is a pain. you are requiring them to make classes that can farm effeciently (note i said efficiently, not easily) and ultimately most just end up making that class their new main, for the effort one needs to put into a mesmer is no longer paying off in both pve and pvp.
slowest travelling class. least amount of aoe power, lowered even more after the changes to the berserker. you have a real issue with necros, rangers and now mesmers. stop breaking classes, and start properly testing your patches internally.
(edited by Dixa.6017)
Guys… there will be no Ranger miracle patch… it never happened in any mmo before and it never will happen… little tweaks here and there… thats it…
So a few buffs here a few nerfs there…
If you are not happy with the ranger now – make another character or stop playing…The miracle Ranger patch… it is not coming…
there were several ‘miracle’ patches in other mmorpg’s, if by ‘miracle patch’ you mean a patch that completely overhauled broken mechanics and made a class viable.
have we already forgotton bc druids, hunters and shadow priests? perhaps then cata hunters having moved from mana to an energy system? those sure seem like a ‘miracle’ patch to me.
there is precedent, and this game can not be taken seriously by the major league gaming circuits until it is taken care of. the circuits don’t abide by rock-paper-scissors mmorpg arenas which is why wow was almost entirely dropped. at the same time nobody is going to take the game seriously if an 8 man warrior team is just steam rolling another 8 man warrior team because meta-wise, that’s all that works properly here.
It has always had a delay, I am investigating if the delay somehow got changed. If someone has good raw data on the old damage of berserker vs the new damage that will also help me track down where that change came from and fix it.
Thanks,
Jon
Dear Mr. Peters,
Many changes have been made in the last month and a half that directly impact the Illusionary Berserkers’ damage. Were these not intentional?
The reason I ask this is the fact you are asking the players to provide you with data you surely must already have. Surely decisions were made to lower mesmer damage based on something you logged in the live game. This is a logical assumption to make.
It is difficult to have faith that your team will not just fix mesmers but other broken classes like rangers if you rely on players to give you that which you should already have.
I have been playing MUD’s and MMORPG’s since 1994. I played on Sojourn and Toril with Brad McQuaid. I was alpha and beta testing Everquest and have been a part in some form or another of every single western AAA MMORPG released in nearly two decades. Therefore I find it hard to believe you need to rely on us to do your testing on the live servers. Something made you tweak mesmers – mostly likely due to sPVP performance – and I know you have this data somewhere.
Right now you have a serious class balance issue, with some classes maybe not being useless on paper but giving the player a feeling of uselessness when they attempt to participate in group pve or any form of pvp. Tweaking the pets on classes that rely heavily on pets (Mesmers, Necros, Rangers) when you have yet to nail down pet ai so they can hit a moving target is not the best course of action right now. It took Blizzard 2.5 years to give pets avoidance so the pet based classes weren’t hampered as that company attempted to make harder, more complicated encounters or just simply made ineffective from a single aoe. Will you take this long?
You are making a push to join Major League Gaming type events with Guild Wars 2 and I applaud the efforts, but you are on track to make the same mistakes as Blizzard.
(edited by Dixa.6017)
it will be Monday in Australia when it is Sunday in the US that is when Sea of Sorrows will go down hill even trying to night cap
every week this same old song.
yet, always wrong.
Can I suggest to my colleagues on SoS that it is not helpful to call people out on a public forum like this.
SoS is doing well because we are generally working well as a team. We’d be better off bringing in these people to work with us rather than alienating them.
If someone is annoying you in teamchat put them on ignore.
daish calls himself out every week.
EVERY. SINGLE. WEEK. he makes a similiar post in the matchup thread. without fail.
Sea of Sorrows is going to get owned
Sea of Sorrows has so many bad commanders they dont even know when to switch maps
so many bad guilds like FoE and pW who will sit and defend something with 10-15 players even if there is no risk of it being lost
Daish is going to avoid playing WvW this week
perfect, last time u left when we losing 30k during halloween . we turn dominating everything immediately, It was a big big win. glad you wont show up again next week.
thank god. there wont be meaningless argument between commanders anymore. No commanders will be pssed off and leave the BL, we will fight tight as one, as we always did when diash was not around.
And plz, keep out of WvW next week, coz everytime you said you leaving, you came back 2 or 3 days later when we started winning.
And when you not in WvW, please dont judge other commanders on chatbox, every commanders trying to ignore you and make sure the community go well.
Sea of Sorrows rises with or without you, good player or normal players they are our brothers. Large guilds or small guilds they are all part of our family. Winning or losing we will keep fighting, ET humiliated us and now they fall, IoJ crushed us and now they lost 3 weeks in a row.
We are here because we kept fighting, we will guard our world no matter what. This is our world and everyone has the right to fight for it, its our duty, its our honor.
JQ and SBI, listen up, you are better or not we dont care, but we are coming.
Sea of Sorrows has only got this high so far because of night caping at prime time SoS loses almost everything
if SoS wants to hold stuff at prime time they need to work out how to move maps spreading across 4 maps and fighting WvW as a 2v1 wont proably wont work in tier 1
u have fun Daish is going to play some planetside 2
Daish there is a reason why we are spread out and why you don’t understand what’s going on. they are related.
every week the guild leaders and guild commanders get together and decide which borderland that guild will be in charge of and at what time zone. every week it’s different.
we are spread out because we – smartly – have been making sure the strong guilds like MERC, PRX, Tysm, FOE and more are all utilizing their members to ensure maximum coverage.
you are not invited or included in this discussion along with mz pure and a handful of others because you refuse to work together. as soon as you enter a map you expect everyone to follow you just because you paid 100g for a title and an achievement instead of asking what the current commanders are doing.
all you do is criticize. because of this you are not part of the discussions had during these meetings. you are a non-factor to SoS and worst of all most of your tactical advice is usually pretty bad.
i’m sure you’ll respond to this in your usual first person snarkiness but know this – the majority of SoS WvW’ers have taken measure of you and no longer care.
The best thing you can do is to cooperate with people instead doing your own thing or constantly belittling people in map chat.
as a head-start SoS’er i’m glad we have clawed our way up to the top. our oceanic players tend to be more into pve and i’m sure this once in a gamelife event combined with the free trial is going to make any wvw presence this weekend spotty at best just like halloween. maybe worse. i ignored halloween because it comes every year. this one i can’t ignore personally, so you won’t be seeing Tricky Smurf on the battlefield before monday.
beating the server that houses sinister swarm 3 times consecutively has been amazing for me and renewed my belief in video game karma.
You guys can hang out with us guardians watching the battles at the keep.
We can go run supply for siege together or something. It’ll be fun, right?
at least a guardian with a staff can actually..you know…run for any length of time.
i wouldn’t roll mesmers just yet. the ‘fix’ to berzerker means that outside of long cooldown, short duration, low damag chaos storm and feedback the class brings nothing to a keep/tower siege if they don’t provide and man oodles of siege equipment
Well Deserved and Finaly , and i play mesmer can take on 2v1 easy mode , now it’s challenging at least
these changes do nothing to spvp play
they severely hamper the class in wvw. we have no tools during a keep siege unless we want to just run siege equipment
phantasmal haste makes phantasms attack faster, not recharge faster.
siege equipment cost is not offset by general wvw play especially as a mesmer with no real aoe. i get fewer bags on my mesmer than my warrior or ranger. of course my elementalist – if she lives – gets the most bags.
nah. mesmers now need to be overhauled to have tools for keep sieging. they now have none. the curtain rip only works on people dumb enough to stand on a wall curb. an inch back and it rips nobody off
in any game where the ttk can be this short from one or more classes it becomes a serious issue.
this is not call of duty. you have an easier time fighting back from being jumped in battlefield 3 than being jumped by a thief in this game.
it’s better for the overall health of the game if burst like this is tuned down. this is a fix that can be done now to help retain players now, than an eventual months-long nailing of the culling issue which by then you may have lost too many players for it to matter.
i’ve been around these games over 20 years and i know for many of you this is not your first mmorpg nor your first pvp focused mmorpg. you know VERY WELL that the longer a situation like this exists the more of a detriment to the overall playerbase it becomes. gamers are an unforgiving lot and don’t generally give mmorpg’s a second chance.
the only weak link sos has is between 12pm and 5pm pst on weekdays, but even then we didn’t roll over and just let sor take everything back. we made you work for it.
i would say our NA coverage is quite strong (12-5 is not NA prime time)
i’m on SoS, i’m in MERC and i’m a north american player – yet i also routinely play during australain prime time
monday i played during us prime and sub prime (2pm pst to 5pm pst, basically 5-8pm EST) and we not only held all of EB but had retaken nearly all of our Bl and held half of the other two BLs. we were leading and had the higher score per update when i finally had to log off.
i came back on at 2am tuesday morning after patch and tried to play. now, australians will say ‘but we were patching for hours’ but i don’t buy this – not when we had overflows in lions arch and queensdale of people i normally see out in the BL’s doing halloween. we got down to +50 soething score and still none of you would help.
you chose to not help and we nearly lost PRX due to it. no, you aren’t required to 100% commit to wvw, but to nearly 100% de-commit to it due to a pve event is embarrassing after all the hub-bub made to get more NA and EU players on this server.
our NA presence is the strongest it’s been since day 4 of this games release w hen a ton of NA left for other servers. if you wish to keep it this way, start balancing time between wvw and halloween and do not join bl’s just to farm candy corn or do jumping puzzles – you are not helping
MERC ninja’d hills keep while bay was under assault. 9 people gogo.
i’m glad sinister swarm is on SoR. payback is lovely.
we now own eb, sos bl, half of the other two bl’s each and two orbs.
daish isn’t the only one. there are a handful of them with the commander tag that have it just because ’it’s my money i’ll do what i want’
not kidding there. direct quote.
The issue is not that your metagame is about 3 months outdated and that you haven’t actually done anything but PvGate for 2 months. The issue is that a lot of the NA guild leaders and WvW leaders have tried numerous times since our arrival almost two weeks ago to get in contact with and coordinate handoffs of maps to the Oceanic commanders/guild leaders/etc. Yet when we tried this, we were met by commentary mostly along the lines of “ kitten off” or “this is our show” or “you don’t run this server, we do.”
It’s pretty kitten poor that the server begged and pleaded for NA presence for 2 months just so they can get backstabbed like this upon arrival and especially after putting in more hours and effort than anyone should have to. Obviously PRX left HoD for other reasons than why most of the NA transfers left their old servers, but the majority of it was because we didn’t want to continue carrying a PvE server 12 hours a day, every day of the week while still trying to do the other things we enjoy in the game all on top of school/work/family/etc.
I’m in complete agreement with KV on this one, we upheld more than our fair share of the bargain, PRX in particular for literally full capping Eternal twice during NA prime time. But it’s time to reciprocate, especially with those boastful voices and gargantuan egos half of the Oceanic populace seems to have. You have to prove you’re the best to be able to say it and be taken seriously.
I’m in MERC and i’ve noticed this as well. MERC is a wvw guild, not a pve guild yet at 2pm pst monday we had over 90 members on and they were..in pve. only 4 or 5 of us in sos borderlands.
i’m a NA player but i’m also unemployed and have the time after my daily job search to play, and i play at all hours.
i don’t know what happened, but i’ve lost my taste for the game.
also those rude commanders? they were rude from day one and we know who they are. they are NOT from MERC i can tell you that.
52 keys. one item.
having read this thread first i actually put on all of my magic find gear. no idea if it would help – 104%. apparantly it did not.
really, really terrible drop rate.
Mesmer portals and thief camp stalling: Why these tactics are important for WvW
in WvW
Posted by: Dixa.6017
i have no problem with portals at all. mesmers have almost no speed available to them. this makes getting from spawn to the zerg or anywhere at anytime a hassle and very dangerous. they have only one ability on a 30s cooldown with 10s of swiftness. they are the slowest of all of the classes in this game.
portals have a limited range – about 2000. if the culling issue was fixed people would complain less. it’s a great tactical tool
the thief solo keeping a camp from the zerg is an exploit to be sure. these thieves are using the poor culling code to their advantage and with how much stealth a thief has this is intolerable. if the culling code can’t be fixed, than that restealth cooldown buff will have to be applied whether the thief attacks from stealth or not until it can be. as someone with both an 80 mesmer and 80 thief this would not hinder thief pve in the slightest.
SO KILL THEM is it that hard. Get some ppl together and stop kittening about them for once in MMORPG YOU can do something about it.
Also keep a list of the guilds that they are in and the guilds that help them becuse they are the trash of there world and need to be removed.
Also report though who help as gold sells because helping them farm is just as bad as being one.
that isn’t the point at all. please read the actual starting post before you respond.
the problem is these bots are taking up slots in wvw maps. if there is a queue, an dyou have 8-10 bots in that bl – this is a problem.
incredible.. The Sanctum is absolutely pulling away
incredible.. The Sanctum is absolutely pulling away:) wonder what Mara of [EPIC] is going or feels about this.. probably relaxing for the first time, like, ever

enjoy it, it won’t last
sos enjoyed it last week due to free transfers. you are now benefitting from it this week.
the ladder system is a joke until free transfers are turned off
why is there absolutely NOTHING in this thread about free transfers?
until free transfers are turned off, wvwvw in this game can not be taken seriously. just look at the sos/sor/cd matchup. it was even across all three until two huge guilds moved on a whim to sor. now it’s a blowout.
is this what you want anet? blowouts on random servers every week?
this completely negates any ladder system you have in place. it negates any attempt at building a server community and negates ANY attempt by your company to recapture or exceed the glory days of DAOC RvR
get it together and turn this off, even if guesting isn’t working yet.
tier 3 asura cultural light armor is zojja’s armor
you can’t get her ears at all with the sliders
the only area that we lack in is tagging in large, zerg de’s.
every other aspect of the pve game the class is fantastic. i rerolled from ranger and have not regretted it. even had an easier time doing the orr map completions and not because i had already done them.
