I am thinking that if they changed Smite from a DoT AoE to a Spike AoE possibly with some knock back or cancel it could really make the scepter a more viable option what do you think?

Right know nearly all the community has no clue what Control, Support, and Damage means. I’m not saying that it doesn’t work in game decease for the most part it does. If you build a character with these in mind you’ll do well but when your the only one in your group who even knows these exist, well death is imminent. I think that Anet should do more to make the community aware of the Control, Support, and Damage role system.

Not to say their are not some game mechanics that could use a fix to support this.
- Fixing enemy aggro a little better so melee control characters can hold enemies like their supposed to.
- Lower health and cc resistance of mobs in dungeons while increasing their numbers so the group has to spread out more and control effects work on more of them. This doesn’t need to be done with every encounter but some really need it.
-Create a “damage cap” on weaker monsters so it is inefficient for entire parties to gang up on single opponents making melee combatants unable to see and thus defend against enemy power attacks and other abilities. another feature might be welcome as I can see how a Damage Cap could be an issue.

I have made a post on the Players helping Players forum about this around launch. Its called Roles in GW2.

Here is a thread where people can suggest weapons to be added to the game at Anets leisure. Basically just post a Weapon you would like to see in game sate the classes you wanna see use it and how each class would use it. Also please be supportive.

Here Is my suggestion.

Javelin- A one handed polarm.
Warrior- Mid-Ranged ranged bleed and cripple.
Guardian- Mid-Ranged ranged burn and blind.
Ranger- Mid-Ranged Poison and Weaken.

Chakerim- A one handed circular blade.
Theif- Mid-Ranged Bleed and cripple.
Mesmer- Mid-Ranged multi-target.
Elementalist- Mid to close ranged elemental damage.

Claws/Katar’s- One handed fist weapons.
Theif- Melee blind and stun.
Ranger- Melee bleed and cripple.

Guardian with longbow

Dragonhero.1852

I’ll say it once again: Rifles!
Or just change the Scepter.

@Shimond: What is it about Guardians that should prevent them from being viable at range?

Longbow feels more fitting to a guardian than a rifle and the scepter is traumatic to even think about so do not change it, just remove it and let us forget that it ever existed.

(Before reading the following I feel it necessary to state that I am not insane or making a threat on your life)
Take my scepter and I’ll KILL YOU ALL!!! In game of course. Just wanted to say I love the scepter in both pve and pvp.

Dungeon armors.

Dragonhero.1852

Why is it that I have to be level 60 to use the AC explorable mode armor look when its a level 35 dungeon? I guess I can understand that you want people to have to work hard for those armors but it doesn’t seem right that I have to wait until 60 to wear an armor from a dungeon I did at level 35. I get having the exotics being higher level gear but why make the lower level gear look so stupid looking? It all has the same stupid model. I should be able to where the armor that I worked had for in the first place. Not have to wait till 60 for a armor that cost four times as much. If its really that big an issue just make the level 35 armor a bit more expensive.

Simple put please give the level appropriate armors the look they should have.

Also why the heck does the cultural armor have better stats then the dungeon armor? Really their is absolutely no reason to get the lower level dungeon armors.

This goes for all armors.

Thanks for reading my angry rant.

PLEASE fix dual wielding animations.

in Suggestions

Posted by: Dragonhero.1852

Dragonhero.1852

It only “looks awkward” if your only familiarity with weapons and fighting styles is from exposure to video games. IRL, dual wielding is an extremely awkward and almost never used fighting style. And when it is used, the offhand weapon is almost always held in reserve for defense, and/or to take your opponent by surprise when they lower their guard.

Which fits perfectly with the current animation style.

Actually sorry to tell you this but as a practicing swordsman I happen to know. the proper way to fight with two weapons at once is by striking with both at the same time. People who hold their off-hand weapon “In reserve” are fools who don’t know what a shield is.

Possible Pet Revival Solution.

in Ranger

Posted by: Dragonhero.1852

Dragonhero.1852

I love how they made it where you don’t get a pet revive problem in events know but The way they have it know kinda sucks. Honestly the Pet should be an important part of your build and swapping pets to rez your pet kinda sucks. I know that once you get out of combat your pet will slowly heal up and rez on its own but that doesn’t help when I am in combat. The way it feels right know is odd because well how do i put it.

1. It doesn’t punish you enough.
2. It doesn’t reward you enough.

So here is my solution. and you can either hate it or love it. Make it where when your pet dies you CANNOT swap it. However when you kill a foe your downed pet rallies.

What do you guys think?

Blocking

in Guardian

Posted by: Dragonhero.1852

Dragonhero.1852

Shimond that was my original point. As far as it really maters how does the focus even tie into this. I am suggesting the ability to block with a shield so that we can have fine control over blocking. Rather than the clumsy control we have know.

Blocking

in Guardian

Posted by: Dragonhero.1852

Dragonhero.1852

I never said that the whole idea of a guardian revolves around them needing to block, However not allowing a class to block especial one revolving around protection makes no sense. Its a poor design choice. Next why the heck do I need to use four different skills when all I need is one option? Finally Swapping those to skills would not mess up the Sword/Shield or Scepter/Shield builds it would make them more viable. As far as builds with the mace in the main hand and a focus or torch in the off-hand. The Torch skills really aren’t for up close and you guys leep saying you can block with a focus.

Furthermore the focus 4 is a ranged ability that does not suit a melee style. So You have to choose between a block and a useless skill. Or a useful up-close skill the shields number 5 without a block. I don’t even see why your arguing this point. Most the guardians Ive asked in-game want a shield block. Furthermore just because you can do x with a b and c build choices this doesn’t mean anything when you should be able to do it with a single build choice.

Blocking

in Guardian

Posted by: Dragonhero.1852

Dragonhero.1852

I think you guys are missing my point. A shield is meant for blocking while a focus is not all that great in melee aside from the block anyway it feels unnatural, and honestly weapon builds should make sense so that people can actually choose what they want to do based on what makes sense not by what kinda works if you do it like this build shows up.

The shield should be used for what its vary existence implies front line fighting. I like you chose the guardian because it seemed like the best class for support however the current shield does not work in that you cant defend yourself which means you’ll be dead before you can protect others sure the Guardian is a good support class but it is also a close ranged fighter if it cant fulfill that role properly it cant succeed and it can fulfill its support role either. If you don’t give the guardian a shield block then in the end you will only be supporting the whole support exist only to support the group and should not be able to help himself at all mentality that makes people hate to play the support role so much right know.

Brainstorming: future Guardian weapon combinations

in Guardian

Posted by: Dragonhero.1852

Dragonhero.1852

How about?

Javelin- A one handed medium ranged weapon usable by both the Guardian and the Warrior. (Inspired of course by the GW 1 paragon)
The guardian skills would be.
1. Holy Spear- (Auto Attack) Throw a spear at medium range Dealing extra damage for each boon currently affecting you.
2. Mighty Throw- Send a powerful spear throw at you opponent knocking them back and crippling them.
3. Shinning Spear- Summon a bright light with your spear blinding foes and removing 1 condition from each ally in range.

Blocking

Dragonhero.1852

I love the guardian for the most part but one thing bothers me alot about its design. You can only block with one weapon. You can’t even use a shield for that it’s vary purpose?

The Guardian is melee class without block skills. Sure we have Aegis but due to its difficulty to control and long recharge time we often cant use it when we actually need to. Yes some of the weapons have blind skills but those cant be used to trigger our blocking traits. Probably the biggest issue is that you cant even use a shield to block. A shield is a device created specifically for that vary purpose and the guardian cant use it for that? Sure we can block ranged attacks with it but thats a mute point when we are usually fighting in melee range. You can say your supposed to dodge all you want but thats not the point. Their are some times when its a much better option to block than dodge but when you cant do it that can become a real issue. You can argue about originality but the when a design choice gets in the way of functionality it becomes a big issue.

Their is even a way to fix this easily. The mace a weapon that is terrible at blocking in real life is the only weapon that you can block with as a guardian. I purpose swapping the Protectors strike and the shield of Judgment ability’s. Giving the block to the shield and the buff/attack to the mace this wont mix up the mace/shield style it will just swap the functionality of 3 and 4. While adding a block to the Sword/Shield and Scepter/Shield styles. Creating three styles capable of blocking.

I would further suggest not swapping the names or cool-downs just the skill functionality. As the names would better fit each others functionality and having the guardian being able to pull off a manual block with Aegis might be a little Op if the block doesn’t have good cool-down. Also I have read complaints about the Shield of Judgments protection buff having too short a duration for its cool-down.

So what do my fellow players thing?

Yah roles might not be the right word. But people need to realize that this game isn’t all about zerging or self reliance. You have to build your character with different DPS, Support, and/or Control options so that you can be an asset to your party not just another body for the zerg pile.

Roles in GW2

Dragonhero.1852

I’ve been seeing alot of people complaining about how GW2 PvE is just about zerging. As far as I’ve seen I think that players are missing something. From what I’ve seen and felt in the mechanics their are Roles in GW2. Except the roles are not as strictly defined as in other MMO’s every class has a plethora of option available to them. Think about it along these lines. You may remember that the developers have already stated that the role system is developed around the idea of Damage, Support, and Control they have also stated that every class is capable of performing these roles in different ways. In the attached file I have attempted to dissect these many different options in order to help players understand the re-imagined role system in GW2. In order to inform the community. Keep in mind I have not played every class and am not a “Power Gamer” so don’t be expecting me to know every role or “Sub-role” as I will be calling them or alot of numbers to let you just mow through your enemy with the “power of math”. I also am not a developer so I could be wrong about some of this.

After reading this I hope you get what I’m saying. Also keep in mind you can have a build that has multiple roles and is still effective in all of them. In fact you probable don’t have a valid build if it can’t be used in a number of ways to support your team or devastate your enemies.

What do you think? Did I get it wrong? Was I spot on? If so How? I would like to hear everyone’s opinions. This is far from complete.
