NA Worlds and their Time Zones

I understand that we are now in the “MegaServer”, but I am basically still just playing with the same people at the same time of day. Were I to transfer to another world, if that is even an option any longer, is there a listing somewhere of what world would best suit my (American) Central Time Zone?

Why is almost EVERY WAYPOINT Contested?

The megaserver system makes reporting and displaying the state of your destination map accurately quite impossible. With this in mind, we’ve decided to disable reporting of world state across maps entirely.

As a player, this will impact you in the following ways:

  • Waypoints—All contestable waypoints on any map you’re not currently playing in will always appear contested. When you arrive in the map, you will be able to travel to these waypoints pending their local status.
  • Dungeons—You will no longer be able to tell if a dungeon entrance is open until you’re on the same map.
  • Temples of Orr—The cross-map mechanics of these temples will be disabled. Instead, god statues will be active only when the nearest temple is contested.

Thanks for the link reminder. I had forgotten about that. Personally, I think it is a ridiculous thing to have, but hey, I’m no game developer.

a slight mod on the minimap so that when you click the defeated player’s icon it will ping them that you are coming rather than the usual map ping would do the trick

Yes, exactly something like this.

there is notification: “a noble soul is healing you”

I know ause actually I was in situation when I was defeated and when looking on map for wp that message popped

but also in some cases folks just ignore – like me upon first login after ancient karka event – I logged out on the battlefield of ancient karka and next login was when they reomved lvl upscaling on tha location – so login looked like “boom downed->boom defeated” and there was no way to get outta there alive when revived so I ignored folke ressing me and wp’ed to LA – there is only an example of situation when you don’t want to be ressed in that current place – but there is an info that someone is reviving you.

You missed what I was saying. We need some form of notification ability BEFORE we get to the downed person and then attempt to revive them.

Helping downed or defeated players

It would be really useful, IMHO, if we were able to notify a downed or dead player that we are coming to help! So many times I have pinged the mini map where a player has fallen in battle (this is primarily PvE), ran all the way to their aid just to have them poof right in front of me because they’re looking at the World Map for the closest WP to port to.
Even if we were able to see who it is by name, we could shoot them a whisper real quick.

Contributing comment from Hamfast.8719:

You should be able to right-click his icon on your mini-map, and choose to either send him a quick generic message to the effect of “A noble soul is coming to your rescue!” or to initiate a Whisper.

On HIS mini map, he should then be able to see a DOT indicating your position. Amongst other things, this helps the downed player see whether or not it is a serious rescue attempt, or just somebody tolling to see how long he’ll lie there quietly awaiting a rescue that never comes.

I attempted to post a discussion there, but was denied.

So here it is:

Mob specific elements.

My Ele is level 40 now and I have been playing around with different weapon sets and doing some of my own testing. What I have not been really able to determine though is the element vs mob mechanic. Is there such a thing or is it just all about the button mashing and luck? Does Fire element inflict more damage against ice based mobs over fire based? Should I be using Earth element skills against air based (flying) creatures? Frost against water?

I did notice that my lightning took down some cave bats much quicker than fire, but that may have just been coincidence.

When was the last time you bought paper and wondered why a 20 dollar bill is so expesive?

You do know that ‘paper’ money is not made of paper, right?

I hate to say this, but try having the game load off of kitten drive. I can switch maps, waypoints, and load into the game in under 10 seconds most times.

What is “load off of kitten drive”?

I constantly see people asking this question in the low level areas.
Is there an official response to this? Some thing I can source-reference to them?

Is there a game mechanic in play that grants a higher amount of experience gain and/or better loot being dropped, by being partied with other players?

Source, please.

Misconception – no gems appear in the in-game economy purchased for gold, they are all initially purchased for real money.
Please keep that in mind.

Given how likely the people spending gold on gems is greater then the people spending money on gems, I find that extremely hard to believe.

And even if it were true, it does not change the fact that a majority of gem-store sales can be attributed purely players using in-game-earned gold to buy the gems rather then buying gems with real money.

So a rising demand for gems does not increase Arena Net’s profits by very much.

You have to understand, Arenanet is not selling gems for gold. Only other players are selling gems for gold. Where do these players get the gems to sell for gold? they buy them with real money. So every gem that is bought is bought with real money.

Basically there are some players who can play the game a lot, run a lot of dungeons etc, will spend gold to get gems and buy stuff from the gem store. Then there are players who are impatient or simply don’t have much time to play, so they essentially buy gold, they buy gems with the express purpose of then converting it into gold and those are the gems everyone else can buy with their gold. If there were no one buying gems and selling them for gold, there would not be any gems for anyone to buy with gold.

Yep. This rings true, for I have spent $150.00 on gems; a large portion of those purchases going to the exchanging of gems-to-gold.

Title says it all. Would it be worth, you think, to just buy a new Digital Deluxe account? I already have 7 character slots on a regular account.
