It’s op as stated above by many people, you can not allow stun/evade/big damage to co exist in one skill not to mention you can spam it. So I would like to talk about the potential balance. I guess the current solution you guys have in mind is to split it into two portion like flanking strike, plz don,t do that. It will not only make the problem remain unsolved but also make pw even stronger if the all the current stun evade slash component remains. You have to take out either stun or evade or both. Currently the game mechanics allow counter play for stun , but not much for evade while attacking. Do not make the same mistake twice like you nerfded s/d put created this new monster called s/p

Oh good, one of the few threads that gets dev attention about pvp balance and here people are arguing over who is/isn’t a scrub [quite ironic since I’ve been personally yelled at in PM twice after beating Sensotix but hey].

Maybe instead of ‘you know nothing’ and ‘X > X’ garbage, you could post reasoning, suggestions and evidence that might actually help the Mesmer class, rather than turn the tiny dev spotlight into a cry fest

hey scrub, if 1v1 means anything I guess we wont see so many top tier mesmer player quite their favorite profession. Have you ever been beaten? Well, please don’t answer this question, because we all know the answer, and I am just afraid you might be one of those that makes the bar even lower.
So, Do we need to post reason here? pretending as if it was the day 1 and we just realized there is problem with mesmer in spvp? Real mesmers like sensotix and other people including me are here just for answers. It has nothing to do with where you stand in leaderboard, or how many big name players you have personally beaten in game.
Today, mesmers deserve an answer that has been denied for too long. Our plea are well within reason, we didn’t ask for anything but a real feasible solution to our problem.

you know, its kind of fun to see developer’s attitude on these things, obviously they believe player should get them for free, but on the other hand they either don’t have time or resource(due to the fact these change wont produce income), or simply when compared to other more pressed matters with “legit” income attached, they are just in a lower priority Q.
Welfare Vs Capitalism, such a wonder to even see this manifest in the game.
let’s just be realistic here, you developer made this game for money, just make poll see what pvper wants the most, and made them into a nice buddle called value added service for those that actually cares and want to see these change happen in our not so long gaming life span.

currently the only reason to use on death traits are chosen is because there is no better traits to use for condition Mesmer. this trait along gives the scepter 1 chain attack a reason to be used and gives hardly spammable condition applier, 2 sec cast, not guaranteed what earth does this make this hurt anybody?
clone by it self is stationary, its explosion has a radius of 240, if people does not move out of it its not our fault, ITS SIMPLY NOT FAIR THAT ALL THE BURDEN OF CONDITION APPLICATION TO BE SOLELY ON OUR SIDE.
I really hope this purpose as someone might suggested in the live stream is contributed by someone that is not even on the Dev team , totally irresponsible, lack of in depth thinking , credibility and some might even start to speculate that it is purely out of biased personal preference.

I have problem with Dev’s attitude on nerfing been the only solution to our situation, the talk of power creep definitely has terrified dev to an extent where they had confined their decision making to nerfing the existing traits rather than work out a plan where nerfing and buffing are combined to solve the problem.
if they were to nerf chaos V or DD, they should compensate condition mesmer by giving us a reliable condition applier via scepter 1 attack chain. OR

They should make chaos V or DD applieble on shatter.

Dev just post on balance forum that they have an alternative plan to make DD not trigered by overriding Clone.

I just want to say, please don’t do this, this just made scepter 1 compeletly useless, all the light class scepter is a condition applier, by doing this you take away our only reason to use scepter 1 and it is not fair as if a 2 sec cast is not long enough, 2 sec if people are not seeing it coming while we have to remember which clone we pop out first which is already a burden on our side, it is just really not our fault

replacing clone not triggering debilitating dissipation is not a good idea either, by doing this you outlawed the manual overriding of clone triggering dd, which makes the only usage of scepter 1 meaningless, all the light class scepter 1 is a condition applier of somekind, ours are especially hard to use, atm it is literally a skillful 2sec cast chain for a chance to replace a well placed clone for DD, unless your intention is to completely wipe out condition mesmer viability, otherwise I see a very obivous act of doing A by sacrificing B.
I really hope that you read my post since it is submerged in DE talks, please do consider this

spvp, pve, wvw are just 3 very different story, pve means u stack ppcritical, and use basiclly what ever build u want, u will be fine, SPVP is a mess, it has a different system, and by far like a different universe to beginner, u WILL GET DESTROYED anyway when you first started, build varies a lot, try a phantasm build for a start is not a bad idea, PPC will do as well, WvW depending on what you are going to do, follow a pin, ptv, to get max survival, in a battle of 30+v30+ you are just a canon fodder, roaming, go for the most cheesy build, everybody do this, PU based condition build is they way to go.
wvw and pve share the same set of gear, you can advance both of them at the same time with no problem, spvp is the game of skill, thing gets really srs sometimes, if you do not enjoy competitive kind of play plz stay out of it.

the only thing anet did good in this game is breaking down mage into mesmer and elementalist, so people dont get destroyed by god mode unbeatable class…lol.
Well, I can give some comparison between the two game so you can have a basic idea.
theif=rouge, since all the attack in this game hits the area it attacks, stealth does not grant you damage immunity , if they hit you when you are stealth, you still take damage, you have 1 shadowstep damage by default which is you F1, and unlike wow, stun is not that readily available to theif, and the duration is very short. depending on you weapon set you can have up to 4 shadowstep ability at one time, the play style differ significantly among sword and dagger, with pistol as the most common off hand, short bow is the off weapon set and is very popular given the mobility and utility it provides.
if we have to compare rouge with theif , sub rouge is more like the sword main hand theif, which focus on long lasting pressure instead of one shot, dagger theif is more like kitten rouge, very skillful can cause large damage within less then 2sec but offer way less sustainable damage.
Sword offers you an additional shadow step ability, sword 2, it root the target on hit and when used again return you to the original position, short range like 15 yard in wow it is 600 range in gw2. i guess this is very important, the sense of range in the game. 130 melee range=5 yard wow, 240 most aoe ring radius, 8 yard in wow, 600range= 15, 900=20 or blink range, all the mid range weapon has this range, short bow, scepter etc. 1200=35 yard in wow, long range weapon. 1500=40 yard in wow, ex-long range, very rare, power ranger, long bow.
since we are here you might want to know this, 1 you can cast instant cast spell while casting anything, it does not interrupt. all the gap closer of thief can be combined into a single spell when used together to create extra long range, like sword2+F1 can let you hit someone from 1800 range away, effect determined by the last spell you cast, so if you want to root, it need to be F1+sword2. works for infiltrator sigenet as well, this siget is a must have for theif.
thief defense mechanics is build around evade, and ability evade, like short 3, dagger 3, V sword 3. which means if you fail to evade the damage inc to you , you will die faster then you can imagine. we can say, if you are not attacking, you are evading or you are dying. choose one.
lyssa rune is you best friend, since the only reliable stun you have is on 45 sec cd elite, lyssa rune make you gain all buff and lose all condtion, often crtizied as unbalanced by 90% of other class, anyway, this is you cloak of shadow, does not offer immunity to conditon , but does purge you off all of them and makes you immune to cc for like 4 sec, due to the stability been one of the buff it gives and it blocks 1 incoming attack cuz it offers you ageis which is another buff.
dagger build are typical, 25/30/0/015. sword build are usually 10/30/0/0/30
pistol off hand offers you weapon skill 5 which is a very powerful condtion, blind, if you are blind you miss the next attack, and pistoal 5 is better, it is a smoke field, so if you do a leap finisher in smoke field , you gain stealth, dagger 2Pistol 5 is you main source of stealth, or pistol 4+Pistol 5, you can silence while applying blind to target from mid range.
speaking of silence, the official name is daze, and did i mention it also affects physical skill? ya it is true, you can be silenced as a thief good news, you have plenty of access to daze as thief.
when you stealth, all theif weapon 1 skill become extra awesome, the signiture of them is dagger 1 which is called backstab when you stealth, if you hit someone from back, you can guarantee an at least 40% health damage to almost every class. you can even 1 shot someone with this, and also the main source of dagger theif, since you have 2.4k ranking, i guess you will find out it in no time, but i still would like to remind you that dagger 2 is an excution like spell, while it works at any health percentage, it only actually worth using when chasing stealthed traget, since it homing for a bit, or when target is below 25%. or to combine it with a smoke field like pistol 5 to gain stealth. as a dagger thief even dagger 3 is rarely used, cuz when you are not trying to get off a back stab, you sustained damage comes from short bow 2 so does the defensive eavde from short 4, mortal strike effect, or healing redcution effct comes from short bow 4 also a poison field.

this game is fast paced, if we say the global in wow is 1.5 sec, so the overall reaction time given to anyone is 1 sec, then the global in this game is 0.5 to 1 sec and the time given to you to react is typically between 0.25 sec to 0.5 sec.

Added new general change-

Dodge roll – Added a special ~0.10s aftercast which takes priority over all aftercast-ignoring skills such as dodge rolls. This encourages players to dodge reactively rather than proactively/randomly.
(Otherwise being punished for it by players that take advantage of it.)

This change would REALLY separate the good from the bad especially thieves.

wow wow wow, are you suggesting balancing the whole game mechanics around theif?
have you considered casual player? have you noticed what it will cause to other game mechanics such as mesmer’s DE?
Asking for buff is one thing, every class does this, but overhaul major game mechanics is way too far, and you sense of good player and bad player is funny, I have to say.

Most mes are power based, condition mes are rare among their kind, and among the condition mesmer, many people play PU, which is totally useless in holding points.

You have got to be kittening kidding me, Rizadon is good? 17-0? I’ve never seen him in pvp before, he has 17 GAMES and I’m pretty kitten sure he queues at 5 am in the night when no other good player is queueing for an easy win. roflmao

you are surly wrong, lots of Asian play on US server, when you guys going to sleep, they just started playing, this can be evident by playing around 3 to 5 pm, PTD, the que is not slow and u see some real nimble asian finger.

practice defense first, go phantasm, if you have no idea about pvp, you might want to start with 1v1, phantasm build are generally easier build in dueling.

this is if you take the class srsly and really trying to learn the class.
after you learned how to do the basic combo of sword and pistol, and have an general idea about staff defense mechanics. you might want to move to play shatter for a bit.
IF you just want to play for fun you might want just play PU based build.
condition build are also great way to start, but i generally suggest start with power build.

nay, If u want to play a shatter mes probably you can never have a rotation, since its wvw, I don’t really know what kind of size you are talking about, shatter is mostly effective when fight under 4 people, anything above that will causes our effectiveness just drop significantly.
the key to play any shatter mesmer is to capture the moment where you can secure a shatter where all 4 damage happens simultaneously, the reason you feel like you are useless is probably due to the fact you wasted you F1 and not dealing enough damage to maintain enough pressure.
F1 CD in trading for large spiky damage is the core assumption of shatter Mesmer, if you fail to meet this assumption, all the subsequent play with F2 and F3 is pretty impossible, or just like what you described, even after you use them , you still fail to deal enough damage and thus put you self in a situation where all shatter on cool down and render yourself useless.
i have one small suggestion for shatter F1, Roll for clone will only make you attack pattern predictable and cause you to lose defense. Try put mirror image in your slot skill and make sure you always shatter when all you clone and you self are within 240 radius of you enemy for quality F1 shatter. 240 radius is when you use null field and put youself in the center of the circle.

I?double checked so it was due to knock back, stun , imbolized or any cc effect, it appears to be a bug.

I have to say this build is awesome if u can find the right timing to engage. without decoy+blink, If eel I am too vulnerable when get focus, I just tried few in hotjoin, when facing a fellow conventional shatter Mesmer you will really feel the pressure, especially when mantra of distraction is on cool down. theif when poping elite skill combined with lyssa rune is another example.
I personally believe this build might have a bit trouble in more organized pvp, solo que for instance, where things are more strategic and stability is more readily available for everyone.
since the only stealth we have in this build is mass invis, I fear it will be really hard to us to get away when getting focused in a grp fight ~it is after all a semi melee, mid range build.

Come to think of it you haven’t really stated why they’re OP, you just went off on this little talk about Guardians.

The warrior has the highest health pool along with arguably the best passive regeneration in the game, without having to invest heavily into healing power or gimping the other stats.

The thing about a Guardian is it’s far bunkier than a Warrior. It has superior defenses, access to multiple blinds, and good condition removal. It can outlast even a regen banner Warrior. If anything that should show how Warriors aren’t as OP as everyone thinks. They’ve got good skills and builds to be sure, but anything they can do outside of stun and temporary condition immunity others can do better. Condition damage? Necro or Engineer. Direct damage? Mesmer or Theif. Bunker? Guardian.

As for the guardian having superior defense versus a warrior, The classic bunker guard will probably be using staff and mace (no blinds), there are others that might have scepter, or even hammer for a weapon swap for terms of control (no blinds).

Condition removal “is” one of the strong points of guardians, so there isn’t a lot of argument there. I would say current state of condition removal versus current affairs of condition application need to be balanced more, but there isn’t a warrior is OP topic, so won’t go into that too much.

Everyone says warrior do not have the damage mitigation that guardians do, and that is why they are not bunkers yet. Warriors have good access to blocks (maybe more than guards), good access to weakness (guards have protection), and good access to stuns (guards do not have a comparable mechanic to this in frequent use as stuns).

The one thing a guardian excels at over the warrior is group support for team fights. I think that is what keeps guardians on top over warrior for the role of bunkering.

Sword and Focus both have blinds, and can be used with an alternate weapon set. This isn’t about Guardians though.

Warriors have access to a 1 second Block, a 3 second Block with Mace/Shield and a 1 second Block with Off-hand Sword which a bunker Warrior wouldn’t use anyway. That grants a 3 second stun along with a 2 second stun, knock back, and knock down with Hammer. None of our heals give is invulnerability, nor do our elites.

Guardians get (assuming Hammer+Mace/Shield) 1 blind, a block to absorb 3 attacks, passive Aegis and Regeneration, as well as being able to activate those, a 2 second and 3 second Invulnerability (one of which refreshes Virtues), a Knockback, a Launch, a skill to prevent enemies from entering a certain area, and passive condition removal.

Between all that the Warrior is far outclasses in terms of defensive ability, even with stuns. Stability isn’t going to stop that Gaurdian from blocking you whereas the Warrior’s offensive and defensive power are largely reinforced by the ability to stun.

Also, we’ve been over this, Healing Signet can be eaten through very quickly and removes the ability to burst heal without making it useless. That’s its downside. When using Healing Signet the Warrior can’t heal off large amounts of damage in one go, he has to rely on passive healing making him extremely vulnerable to burst damage.

No,no no, its not how you compare classes, u play a class, u look at the combined strength of the whole tool kit u r getting by playing it, therefore u don’t look at a single skill of a class and compare them, that means u don’t say things like “here is all the class i have, and there is all urs, u have show X number of more invulnerability then i do”
we all agree warrior are overpowered at solo level, this is word of mouth, and u can not deny it, in this game, healing over time at a second by second level is overpowered, i am talking about the healing signet, u don’t see a comparable healing skill on any other classes, its overpowered because it does not require timing, it does not require casting, and the amount it heal with every pulse is very significant combined with warrior’s mobility and CC capability, unless stability and stun breaker are offered to very class on a 5 second bases, we don’t see a way of stoping warrior healing them self while doing tons of cc and damage to u.

well, it depends. if u r facing a pure bunker hammer war, they should not be able to do much damage if u r not stunned , their common rotation is F1 into hammer 2 ,hammer 3 to snare u if u r not and hammer 4 which is a stationary knockdown if u does not move out radius in time, and F1 has a very very easy to watch animation, it leaps and smash down, which is actually a 0.75 cast time, traits wise, u need halting strike which does a lot of damage if u interrupt. and shattering concentration to remove his boons, especially the stability, bunker or not, anyone who eats a 3clone shatter combo into sword 3 3 into sword 2 is going to hurt. all we need is time to set up. we engage with staff, staff 2 and 3 and roll for 3 clone, F3 to daze the target, switch to sword, depending on u off hand, get 3 clones out sword 3 3 into sword 2 into F1 shatter, and switch back to staff and kite, u probably need rune of energy so every time u switch weapon u can always roll, rolling is the key to defeat any non condition bunker build.

spent over 100 ticket on her so far, over 16 hours, could almost recite all her move in P1 but always die to 1 shot illusion she summoned from my back in P2.
to be honest, I could most tell her rotation in P2 as well, but really cant beat things coming from the back side.
Areanet u have succeeded at proving how dumb i am and how clever you designers are, i don’t think i could keep going for too long, hopefully this will not be my first and last post on this game.
