I’m more interested how they will fare next year with two other big MMOs coming out. Hopefully well, I prefer this kind of payment system.
It will be a small miracle if TESO and Wildstar can become big hits with the planned business models.
They will only really be in direct competition with WoW due to all having sub fees.
Events that don’t include champion mobs are rather pointless unless you need the XP.
Which is a real shame, I’m hoping Anet will expand the dynamic events and make them worthwhile for max level characters as well, in all zones.
Most fun I’ve had in this game was doing those events with huge number of players when first leveling up.
What about those from bigger servers with players that pays the wvw guilds from other server to migrate to their already winning server to have complete domination.
That is also pay to win. That is player behaviour, and has nothing to do with the business model of the game.
Business model or not intentional, it still turned out like this.
Wvw is all about who has the most players running zerg.
Manpower > SkillThey buy man power with real money to seal a win in their book.
That may be so, but it still has nothing to do with the discussion at hand.
Of course it won, there’s was no competition in 2013 for MMOs.
Agreed.
What has been launched in 2013?
Neverwinter, Defiance, few F2P conversions and, strictly MMO talking, that’s it.Nowhere near a real competition.
This wasn’t about games only released this year, but the genre as a whole, so you must count all MMOs on the market as being in competition for the title, yes, that includes WoW too.
The writers of TTH have chosen GW2 as their preferred MMO 2 years in a row, how much you value their opinion is another thing entirely, congratz Anet.

I just browsed the Gem Shop, didn’t see anything relating to ascended crafting.
Am I blind and misinformed and Anet is actually selling ascended crafting materials for gems?
As said -……asking forever points alredy discussed cyclically to deny something is an old tactic….
People should red the Whole tjread and see who is doing this.
I’m not trying to deny anything, it was an honest question, which for whatever reason you chose not to answer.

There are two definitions of p2w in this thread and that’s where the whole difference in opinion comes from
There is only one proper (as in, general) definition of “P2W”, and as has been shown again and again in this thread it does not apply to GW2.
The rest are attempts by people to twist the meaning to serve their purposes, basically calling the devs greedy when in fact, the business model of GW2 proves the complete opposite.
to tell the truth the common definition of P2W from internet suits 100% this game…
Then people started giving their personal view to deny it ……..but frankly we still need ANY link from a reliable source to give credit to their personal view…..
Nothing in GW2 is only obtainable by paying real money. You don’t have to actually pay for anything, and if you do actually pay for something, it does not make you win anything.

Did I call GW2 a bad game, or even talk negatively about it at all in my post? No. I simply stated GW2 won because it had zero competition, which it didn’t. It won by default and it’s nothing to be excited about.
Except it did have competition, from all the other MMOs that are on the market.
Like already suggested: animation sets, new skills, cosmetic stuff and titles you get from doing challenging solo and group content, basically ways to customize (personalize) your toon(s) further.
Gold is king in GW2 and it can be purchased.
And also earned by just playing the game.
The general meaning of ‘P2W’ is that you spend real money to gain access to buffs, content and what have you that are not otherwise available.
If GW2 is ‘P2anything’, it’s convenience, and let’s not forget that we’re talking about a game that has one of the most (if not the most) consumer friendly business models out there.
And as the saying goes, “the beauty is in the eye of the beholder”, not everyone finds the ‘TP only’ skins as the coolest or the prettiest or whatever, so even from that point of view the ‘P2W’ argument falls flat on its back.
Why do people care about achievement points?
I mean, you can get them by killing ambient creatures, picking up carrots or by visiting a laurel vendor.
Rewards (including the point total) should be based on doing stuff that is actually challenging, not by doing mundane tasks over and over.
It’s not really the company’s fault if you fail to do your research, maybe that sounds harsh but that is your problem here.
I have a fused staff skin that I cannot place in the trading post aswell.
Seems like you cannot sell them if you redeemed the skin during the event, I’m seriously hoping that it’ll get fixed as soon as.
It really depends on how you define the term “grind”.
There seems to be as many different definitions of it as there are people complaining about it.
Personally, I think of “grinding” as an activity I would be forced to do even though I wouldn’t enjoy doing it in order to gain a reward I would enjoy having.
So far I haven’t ran into anything like that in this game.

I’ve never really understood people’s obsession with Vigorous Shouts. I could see the appeal if the numbers were worthwhile but you’re healing for what, 1.3k per shout if you’re lucky? 2k in full Cleric’s?
A single warrior shouthealing is not going to achieve anything worthwhile.
Having 10 warriors shouting at each other, the effects pile up.
Most boring play style though in my opinion.
In my opinion, adrenaline should just have basic passive effects like health regen / dmg or condi reduction / whatever tied to it that get stronger the more adrenaline you have build up. Like, think of Adrenal Health as baseline but stronger at higher levels of adrenaline.
This would fit thematically as you’d expect a warrior to become a bigger threat the more “fired up” he is. Use of burst skills would became more interesting: do you use your burst and risk a glorious death or sacrifice damage and control in favor of keeping your self alive.
It would be a less complicated and an easier to balance improvement than say, extra burst skills. It could also add to build variety since traits and utility skills that buff adrenaline gain would actually become worthwhile.
Cool ideas, actually there have been loads of them on these forums lately, here’s hoping the folks at Anet are paying attention.
Not too sure about the burning on sword attacks thematically. Longbow and burning arrows makes sense, burning swords not so much.
My suggestion for arcing slice is it should be a heal that scales with the amount of adrenaline you have. That would make it useful.
Please, no.
Warriors desperately need ways to sustain themselves across the board, any “heals” or such should not be tied to any single weapon, especially not the greatsword.
They absolutely should expand on the adrenaline system, in its current state it’s just boring as a class mechanic. As boring as, or arguably even more boring than similar “rage” mechanics in other games.
What you suggest sounds kinda neat, but might be somewhat clumsy to use; you would choose the side it slides to by pressing a button? Could you change it on the fly or would you be stuck with one side as long as you’re in combat?
In my opinion they should just tie more benefits to different levels of adrenaline. For example: make the Adrenal Health trait baseline and make it heal for actually meaningful amounts at higher adrenaline levels. This would give warriors the sustain they are aching for in a way that suits the theme of the class way better than just giving them access to regeneration and/or protection.
Obviously, giving adrenaline levels added effects would require making adrenaline way harder to build (and maintain between fights), but that would only make the mechanic more engaging and fun. This would also make traits that boost adrenaline gain stand out a hell of a lot more than they do now.
This doesn’t change the fact that they lied about their manifesto.
If ArenaNet seriously plans to go through with this, I will get my money back.

Please provide a link to a statement where it is said that exotic items are the “plateau” of gear that they talked about prior to release.
Judging by the statement in the OP, ascended (and eventually legendary) items are said “plateau”.
Still, would be best for Anet to spell out their intentions.
If you get an answer? What have you then? just an other promise they will breake
They haven’t broken their promise, not yet at least.
While I can understand why they would hesitate to make any clear cut statements given how the forums have reacted to the patch teasers they posted, they really need to explain the system so people will stop jumping to conclusions.
Did Anet, at any point, say that exotics would be the highest tier of gear quality in terms of item stats in the game, or was it just an assumption made by the players?
Seems to me that the ascended (and eventually legendary) quality items are the “plateau” Anet talked about before release.
The infusion slot looks to work like resistance -based items from other games.
An instance causes players to suffer from a certain type of damage, and you mitigate that damage with items you stuff in to the infusion slot. Different types of resistance for different instances. So you keep the gear, you only swap the special infusion slot items.
It creates a sense of progression equipment wise without making other content less challenging I suppose, I fail to see the gear treadmill in it.
This is assuming I understood what Anet is saying correctly, and I guess we won’t know for sure until we see the new system and mechanics in action.
So, when Anet said that there would be a gear “plateau”, everyone just assumed it would be the exotic quality items?
Given how easy it is to obtain an all exotic set, wouldn’t it be a bit silly to make that assumption to begin with?
It seems to me that the ascended (and later legendary) quality is the actual “plateau”.
Or did Anet actually state at some point exotic quality would be the highest tier?
