The guild feature in this game is great and has a lot of great things going for it. However, I believe a few things can be done to give more control to guild leaders, such as lifting a few limitations. Here are a list of things that would definitely help me out as a guild leader:
1. The most important thing I personally would like to see improved for guilds is the guild ranks panel. I’d like to see an increase in the amount of ranks guilds can have and see more icons for these ranks.
Currently, guilds can only have 10 ranks, including the leader, and can’t be upgraded. This is no issue for guilds with simple structures, such as leader – co-leader – officer – member – probation. However, this quickly becomes very limiting for guilds that want to create a slightly more complex organization – such as dividing members by teams, dividing by type (such as PvE/PvP/WvW), a system that looks like a corporate company hierarchy, or a ranking system that modeled after the U.S. government (3 branches, etc.).
Right now, we’re forced to group people in the same ranks in the game while having a separate roster and ranking system on another site, which is both inconvenient and counter-intuitive. Also for WvW guilds, some guilds may need to some of the ranks with allies as there’s a lack of a proper alliance channel. We also have to group similar ranks to one in the game, such as co-leaders with the leader rank, in order to make space for a specialized role.
This is particularly an issue in GW2 for some because GW2 is such a huge world with so many aspects to it. This is a complex game, and being allowed to better organize a complex guild should be allowed. GW2 at least allows and even encourages large guilds, so an increase in the amount of ranks with each upgrade would greatly help!
2. A better way to type the MotD. What if we want to keep a line in the MotD all the times (such as a voice comm server), but frequently change guild announcements? As it is right night, we have to completely type out everything from the start. There’s no easy way to edit things, and only way to copy and paste is from outside the game (such as notepad). It’s not a convenient option (mail has similar issues) and since the MotD popup isn’t really a window, whatever you type can easily be deleted by a mis-click.
3. An update to the guild roster in the History panel. For an active guild, the Roster gets cut off within a few days. If these can be lengthened or perhaps even be automatically downloaded and logged to the guild leader’s computer, I think it’d be a great help, not to mention be used as a useful tool for guild leaders. It’s be even better if a search bar can be implemented so members can be searched (to find out when they joined, etc.).
4. A member detail tab for guild leaders/officers that allowed us to see more info about members, such as their last login time and a list of known characters (or at least characters they’ve represented with). I really would like to see a member’s name linked to their characters, since it gets a bit confusing sometimes (for example, I might know someone as Lisa and when Lisa is offline, the name is replaced by Red.4012).
5. An improvement to guild WvW buffs. Perhaps an increase to 20 hours instead of 12, or the ability to upgrade and store 2 of each. I think I understand the limits, but huge, large guilds from other games are bypassing this limitation by created “Guild1” “Guild2” “Guild3”, which is a huge advantage to smaller guilds or guilds that was formed in GW2.
6. An alliance system, such as the one in GW1, or just a separate chat channel that multiple guild leaders can use to communicate to each other.
I would love to see some or even one of these improvements added to the game (particularly increasing the rank limits!). Thank you!
