I think each of the non-80 zones should have a unique set of armor skins that are unlocked by completing the zone [snip] Then you can have armor skins available to purchase for karma or zone faction.
I hate to pick on someone, but I just wanted to point out that this already exists in many zones. For example, the Jottun Greatsword can only be obtained from a karma-merchants in Snowden Drifts; a level 15-25 zone. As another example, Dark Armor can only be obtained from karma-merchants in Fireheart Rise and Orr.
What I believe players wanted can be summed up as: Expansions on the existing stories and event mechanics already within the world, to the end that these stories feel more alive, expanding outward based on more advanced event mechanics, more story steps, leading to more varied story steps, player choice, and player success or failure.
This is very much what I imagined the Living Story would be like when I started playing GW2. The Dynamic Event system already makes the game feel alive, but the fact that Dynamic Events don’t change over time makes the game feel stagnant.
I think every LS update could just revamp a zones DEs and it would be great!
What rewards would you like to see from rewards?
I think loot is always the best reward in an RPG. But since champ-events already drop loot, perhaps non-champ events could give more XP and Karma than champ-events? To compensate you could create more things to buy with Karma and Skill Points.
We will then be opening up a new thread which will be discussing what we think has gone well and not so well with the process and practices of the first phase of the CDI initiative.
Could someone from the dev team also summarize the main points of discussion in this thread? i.e. consistent questions raised and main subjects discussed. It would also be nice to know how the dev team processed our feedback. i.e. how did the devs react? did we raise any concerns you hadn’t considered? or did we mostly mention points you’re already discussing internally?

Regarding GW1 lore in the game, I think it’d be really compelling to have in-game books or some other delivery device to allow players to immerse themselves in Tyria’s history.
Yeah! Why aren’t those in the game yet? One of the biggest problems with GW2 is the disconnect with lore. Just think of how much players enjoy exploring around EbonHawk. Add in a couple books, and an achievement for finding them, and you’re set!
EDIT: It would be really cool to implement this in every zone.
How bout mace? Are they viable for supportive builds?
Healway Guardian can use mace, but like he said the damage is low.
We should make a community guide with a list of PvE builds based on merits. AH may not be optimal, but the synergy still makes sense and it is better than most builds people run. We could include general tips about reflects, LoS/pulling, dodging, etc.
This would curb the negativity every time we debate casual/Berserker builds, and we need an updated PvE guide on the Guardian forums.
Casual builds:
Mid-level:
- 15/25/0/30 (Guanglai’s pug build)
Experienced::
EDIT: I’m now the hippy of Guardians “Peace, love, and happiness. We all just need to get along, maaannn.”

Anywho, I flagged a post for moderation and I expect a few of these to be deleted soon for being “Off Topic.”

Um when did anyone even actually care about speed runs? Thiers not even a sponsor company run site that even tracks them. It may matter to DnT but no one else cares.
There are guilds that compete for world speedrun records. Yes, they are tracked. Speedrunning was also a prominent thing people did at the end of GW1’s lifespan. And even if that wasn’t true that still it wouldn’t excuse treating a prominent
community member that way.
(edited by Finnway.2183)
@spoj I never said once his build was bad, and still haven’t now because I have more respect then that.
You are correct. You said:
Perfect? Huh, Paladin 2.5 would like to have a word with you on that, lol. Good however? Yes.
Which is fine, because Paladin 2.5 might be perfect for you.
(edited by Moderator)
See what you did there? You said the people (came) to the person. In other words they (decided). See the difference there? (Choice!) You allow people to decide you don’t decide for them.
Yes, and as someone already said:
Can you make a DPS build with AH … hell yeah … and a good player is going to play the hell out of it too.
But if someone asks for my advice I’m still going to give them the best answer I can using my knowledge and experience (which doesn’t amount to much in GW2).
(edited by Finnway.2183)
Again you have no right … to tell anyone what is a good or bad build.
That’s not entirely true though. If you wanted to be a good athlete or musician you would go to a good athlete or musician and ask them to teach you. Based on their knowledge and experience, they have the authority to help you improve.
Likewise, in a video game you can learn from the experience of the best players. Look at e-sports as an example.
Lets face the facts, no matter how much anyone here tries to preach these “effective builds” the reality of the situation is pve does not require it.
That’s true. I suppose I’m just wishing one day there was content that did (Ah well…). It still stands that some builds are more effective then others.
(edited by Moderator)
Doesn’t matter if its more efficient or not. What is lost in all this is people chose to do whatever they want and no one has the right bother them because of that.
But if someone posts on a forum and asks for a good build you’re not going to give them bad advice are you? The build doesn’t make the player, but some builds are more efficient than others. You can tell them “Try this out. It’s good” without beating them over the head with it.
If I read everyone’s opinions correctly who are opposed to the AH damage build. Just label it as “Non optimal, play how I want build”, and no one will bother you. We just don’t want this information spreading like the plague, advertising it as a good build.
I agree with this.
It’s honestly more efficient to build for higher DPS. The only real reason not to build for DPS is (A) you aren’t skilled enough (which is perfectly okay; not everyone wants to be the best they can be) (B) you’re just playing for fun.
(edited by Moderator)
But considering with these changes coming. All of this maybe blown up.
Most of the proposed changes only effect PvP. The only ones that really effect PvE are:
- Zeal VII – Zealous Blade. This trait now scales with Healing power (2%.) [This slightly buffs players who run AH with a Greatsword instead of Hammer]
- Radiance X – Powerful blades. Increased damage from 5% to 10%. [This significantly buffs the current meta dungeon build]
- Valor V – Retributive Armor. Increased conversion rate from 5% to 7%. [Slightly buffs AH]
- Virtues VIII – Supreme Justice. Number of attacks going from 4 to 3. [Some people might use this to create some weird burning builds. It’s not as good as 15 in Radiance though, so probably not.]
- Symbol of Swiftness: This skill now applies 4 seconds of swiftness per pulse, rather than 8 seconds if you have no swiftness and 1 second if you have swiftness. [I think this makes staff worse for running around the map. I might be interpreting it wrong though]
(edited by Finnway.2183)
While WANTED: PIONEERS! comes off as a slick 1-page advertisement, I have no illusions that it would represent anything less than a metric butt-ton of work across nearly every development department I can think of.
I imagine the living story could make drastic changes like this over the course of time. i.e. In every bi-weekly patch there would release 4-6 goals that collectively take just under two weeks (less for high populated servers) to accomplish. After your server completes their set of bi-weekly goals you could unlock a new temporary meta-boss to beat up until the next patch.
I guess in a way, this isn’t too different from what they’re doing in Kessex right now (presuming the tower lasts for 3-4 patches).
A good player won’t use AH.
I kind of disagree with this. A bad player with a good build is still a bad player, so the reverse is also true (as evidenced by DnT)
(edited by Finnway.2183)
I think this raises an interesting question, what do you consider to be “temporary” content, and what qualifies (in your mind) as content that occurs and drives the living story forward it makes sense to have go away, vs. that which remains?
I think there needs to be consequences for the events of the living story in order for the world to feel tangible. If someone logs into the game after not playing for a year and nothing has changed except that there is a new temporary update occurring then I think you have failed at creating a living world.
e.i. When the Tower of Nightmares update has ended there should be a ruined tower in the center of the lake. A fanatical sect of the Toxic Alliance should remain in the region and there should be an event to stop them trying to replant a new toxic seed (basically a rehashed version of the events we’re currently doing). There should also be a new heart-quest in the region replacing one of the existing ones.
I also felt like the story content that came along with the Queens Jubilee and Clockwork Chaos did a good job of accomplishing this as well, though the outcome of the invasions don’t have enough impact on the world.
I agree with this. Scarlett’s invasions don’t feel like permanent content (even though they are) because they don’t have a lasting impact on the world. In a way I think Scarlett’s invasions would have felt “more real” if they had been temporary. It seems unrealistic to have her invade a zone every four hours perpetually.
I think the balance you guys need to find is (A) What kind of content should be permanent vs. what should be temporary? (B) How frequently should permanent updates occur? i.e. one out of every 4 updates? one out of every 6? By permanent I mean things like map additions and zone revamps. Tequatl would also count, but there was not enough story in that update for it to feel like something changed in the world.
They should’ve picked a slightly different style. Japanese RPG’s have a lot classic rock music, but the music in The Nightmare Within doesn’t have the quite same tone.
I’d be excited about this kinda of content, minus the JP’s, i really hate that JP’s are so important to this game
They’re smaller then most Jumping Puzzles, and no tricks. The idea is since JP’s are a part of the game they might as well include them in new content.
Just heard this from a friend of a friend who’s friends with a friend who works at Anet that you’ll need to complete the entire meta set of achievements within 24 hours else it’ll reset and you need to start again.
I’ll add that to my post!
(edited by Finnway.2183)
In my opinion, the Tower of Nightmares has given us more story than any other update. From talking to NPC’s and picking up on ambient conversation you can learn a lot!
- There is an NPC who gives general information in case you missed past storylines or don’t pay attention.
- The Nightmare Court uses noble titles to indicate rank and territory. It is likely the Sylvari of the Toxic Alliance are a small, independent offshoot of the Nightmare Court.
- The Krait way of life was invented by their ancient prophets. They believe one day their prophets will return and make them powerful again. They believe the obelisks are the key to the prophets return, and it is likely Scarlett gave them Obelisk shards in return for their cooperation.
- Obelisks are made from a similar substance as Bloodstones. Bloodstones were used by an ancient race to store magic more then a millennia ago.
- There are a Skritt and Quaggan in camp with dialogue as well. It is nice to see the lesser races present, since we bonded with them during our personal story.
On top of this, we get a nice opening instance with some fun dialogue and an interesting cutscene. Nice job ArenaNet!

2) I’d like to further develop my character/account from each living story arc I participate in, in a way that goes far beyond wearables. Something over-arching. For example, I’d like to acquire reputation with factions of choice for each succesful event participation and after a few months I’d like to get awarded with a minor noble title with the faction I contributed most to, and get a side-questline for the personal story from that. Or get granted some land to have a new house. Or get henchmen, which I can customize and who will join me in future singleplayer parts of later story arcs.
I really like this idea. Someone also suggested (I forget who) unlocking more armor/weapon skins from our specific order, and watered down versions of the other order’s skins. I like this way of unlocking skins much better then what we have now. Plus, your decision of what order you joined has impact.
I feel pressured to complete the achievements ASAP so I can get on with the content I would rather be playing,
This summarizes how I feel about achievements in the living story.
I think there should be less achievements (like 5-6) for the meta, and have a separate achievement category for doing LS dailies to earn a bi-weekly chest (just of like dailies and monthlies). This way, players who like to grind will still be rewarded, and players who only have 5 hours to spend can still complete the meta.
(edited by Finnway.2183)
As a complete aside, I would love to see some experiments in dynamic events where failure doesn’t stall the event but progresses it in a different direction.
Interesting idea. Can you provide an example of how you would imagine it working.
I really like the implementation of events in Dredgehaunt Cliffs and Harathi Hinterlands. As you succeed in each event you unlock WP’s and eventually push the meta. If you fail the enemies push you back and you loose a WP (eventually all WP’s can become contested). I like this better than Orr because at the early stages the event chains can be pushed by one player.
Hi,
I just wanted to share my favorite/least favorite updates. I have been playing since around July and the first update I participated in was Cutthroat Politics.
My favorite update was probably Queen’s Jubilee/Clock Work Chaos. The reason why is because I had watched a story summary on youtube prior to the release of the patch and I had heard about Scarlett. I was excited to play the patch because I was convinced something important was going to happen for GW2’s storyline and I wanted to be there to see it. Of course, neither the state of humanity or Scarlett’s motives have really been built upon since then. But at the time I really liked the opening cutscenes to both patches (although I never actually played the end of CC).
Tequatl or Twilight Assault are probably my least favorite patches. I liked what they tried to do with Tequatl, but I didn’t like the lack of story and that most players weren’t able to experience it right away (due to the difficulty of the content). Twilight Assault is probably my least favorite. When Twilight Assault came out I took one look at my achievement panel, debated whether or not to do the achievements, and then I never played it. Instead I watched a story summary on youtube and I felt like I didn’t miss anything. If you’re going to do small group content I think it is better suited to the open world. I also don’t like doing living-story updates for the achievements.
Honorable Mention: I have really liked the Tower of Nightmares so far. It feels more story driven (hunting down Krait Obelisks and such). My only complaint is I don’t like zerg content and I’m not really incentivized by the reward. I want doing the event to be my reward. I don’t like trading in a currency to buy something.
(edited by Finnway.2183)
Gosh. I’m seriously not sure what I’m going to do. My reason for perhaps going casual (hour a day before bed) is because I see nothing worth aiming for. I like playing the TP because it is good practice for real life but there is really nothing to aim at unless I meet some other good good players that I click with and will play with on the daily and maybe do 2-3 fractals a week, speed run dungeons, roam…. You know.
I’m right there with you on this. Everything I do at end-game feels like I could be doing something else that earns more money. But when I do things just to earn money (i.e. speed running dungeons right after server reset) it isn’t fun. They need better content to earn exclusive rewards. Perhaps currencies like corrupted spores (or whatever they’re called) should be account-bound, so we can’t sell or buy them? Anywho, off topic…
HA! Guanglai Kingyi made build around this exact concept: click me, I’m a link
This is one of the few support builds I would actually regard as useful. Basically, the combination of Two-Handed Mastery and Master of Consecrations allows you to do two Mighty Blows inside Purging Flames, and three inside Hallowed Ground. With boon duration runes on top of the +30% from Virtues, and using the Staff’s Empower as well, you can actually maintain an average of 25 stacks of might on your entire party.
He didn’t fill out armor and runes though. I wonder what those should be?
(edited by Finnway.2183)
Cookie Cutter Builds
This is probably the best Guardian dungeon build if you’re comfortable wearing Berserker gear. If you’re not, you can still use this build wearing Knights gear with Berserker trinkets.
Hammer is recommended in Fractals because the auto-attack gives your party protection.
(edited by Finnway.2183)
I think you just need to play your Guardian more. Guardians can already do everything you suggested when they trait 5 in Virtues, and it is exciting to play. If they changed anything, I think Virtue of Resolve’s active effect should be stronger.
I encourage any discussion or ideas about this build, but please refrain from statements like “this sucks” or “build X is better.”
When I read this, I looked through your post to see what your purpose for this build was (so I could offer helpful criticism).
Here it is:
The main idea of the Virtuous Blade build is to focus on the two things… Virtues and to an extent Boons.
So you want (1) to go into the Virtue trait-line, and (2) to emphasize boons. You mainly do PvE and WvW content.
- My first criticism is to ask why did you pick the Greatsword? The Greatsword is a burst-damage weapon. The auto-atack gives you Might stacks for doing extra damage with skill 2 and 4, but it doesn’t give boons to your party. An alternative would be the Hammer, which gives the party protection stacks during the auto-attack chain. With enough boon-duration you could give the party perpetual protection as long as you’re auto-attacking.
- Your build has no reliable source of Might stacks. You could take 5 points from Zeal or Valor and put them in Honor instead to get Empowering Might (which gives your party Might stacks on a critical hit). Since you already have 5 in virtues, you could also go 15 in Radiance and get might stacks when spamming Virtue of Justice (that trait wouldn’t work well in WvW though).
- I was trying to find some runes that might synergize well with this build. You might try (all Superior runes) Rune of the Pack, Rune of Dwayna, Rune of Water, or Rune of Altruism. Altruism is probably the best option, and it would solve your Might problem.
- I don’t know if Save Yourselves gives boons to Party members. If it doesn’t, then picking that over Retreat or Stand Your Ground contradicts what you want this build to accomplish.
This link implements some of the changes I suggested.
Pro’s to the build:
1. Great potential burst damage.
My only other criticism is with this statement (I might be a little bit more critical here). The three things you want in a burst damage build are (1) Critical-Hits (aka Precision) (2) high Power (3) Vulnerability.
In my opinion, this build lacks critical hits and vulnerability. So I wouldn’t say it has burst damage potential.

Look at the top most beloved villains of all times.
Star Wars: Vader
WoW: The Lich King
LOTR: Sauron
GW: Shiro
/Fixed. At best, video games just copy from famous literature that has come before them. They may have good stories, but they certainly aren’t original.
Thats exactly what I believe it is too, has OP pointed out
More then a weapon= it serves another purpose
A toxic seed has been sown= its creating some kinda lifeform
Guarded by magic= its vulnerable and need to be protected at all cost
fed with evil, it grows= it’s evil.My theroy= scarlet’s science experiment also showed her where the cave is with the other pale tree seeds. Or she found that other tree’s location. and now the nightmare court is working with or for scarlet to do what they always wanted. Create their own tree and very likely a new blood thirsty sylvari race.
I like the idea, but personally I hope the it’s more about the Krait then Scarlett or the Nightmare court. As long they are a permanent threat though, and they do genuinely evil things, then I can live with whatever.
This feedback only represents a small portion of Guardian players.
This small portion is what truly matters,
Uhhh… no? What about the community on Reddit or GW2 Guru? I never commented in this thread, and I disagree with some of the suggestions. Half of them are overpowered, and some of them even break current Guardian builds.
By “a small portion of Guardian players” what I really mean is “less then 30 people.”
Radiance (VI) Blind Exposure: Inflicting Blind also inflicts vulnerability (3stacks for 10seconds).
This trait is not reflected in the tool tips of skills that blind. I also find it inflicts vulnerability on all enemies, even ones that are immune to blind such as Dredge.
This feedback only represents a small portion of Guardian players.
Yeah, where is your source on any of these claims as to what it’ll be like?
Any prolific sources to these outlandish claims?
I’m just joking, but I edited my post so others don’t get confused.
(edited by Finnway.2183)
From the trailer, “It is more then a weapon.” This implies it is a weapon, not just a fortress of some kind. On the webpage it says,“A toxic seed has been sown. Guarded by magic, fed with evil, it grows.” This implies it is a biological weapon of some kind. From a distance the tower looks like a seeding bloom (0:43 in the video). Is the tower sending seeds out on the wind that infect where they land? (or the creatures that inhale them?)
The Krait in this update look different. They are icky and green. But according to the wiki, Krait have always had the ability to shapeshift. “When they come close to death they enter a frenzy which shape-shifts them to another form.” We never actually see this happen in-game.
An interesting fact: the lake around the tower is “Viathan Lake” as in “Leviathan;” the creature from mythology. The Leviathan is usually depicted as a giant sea-creature —kind of like Krait!
The webpage says: “The krait have been working tirelessly on a terror unlike anything seen before in Tyria.” I really hope this is true.
(edited by Finnway.2183)
Maybe this is a open world guild raid?
Throw the in words “jumping puzzle” and and you got it!
“open world jumping guild puzzle raid”
In GW1 Krait were shapeshifting enemies. According to the wiki they still are:
When they come close to death they enter a frenzy which shape-shifts them to another form, this gives them a second wind which makes them particularly difficult to kill. – wiki.guildwars2.com – Krait – Physiology
But we never actually see this happen in game. Perhaps this update will introduce it to us.
I went into the game and tested this:
Your rotation takes 10 sec and it is: #4 > #3 (and VoJ at the same time) > #2 > AA twice > Switch
My rotation takes 15s and it is: #2 > #4 > AA 4 times (throw in #3 and VoJ if you want) > #2 > Switch.
It seems to me you’re not calculating time in your equations. It’s not just “damage” as in numbers (your rotation gets higher numbers) it’s “damage per second.” My rotation does higher damage per second over the course of 14s then your’s does over the course of 10s. And it’s a small tradeoff because those extra 5s are spent bursting.
I’ll agree with you that the party needs protection stacks.
You do know a couple of auto attacks right before swapping dishes out as much dmg as a WW?
You do know GS auto-attack is one the lowest-DPS Guardian attacks in the game, right? It’s really only good for gaining might stacks for bursting.
(edited by Finnway.2183)
SoW lasts 6 seconds traited, which hits as hard as a WW (normally can get 2.8k crits so 6 × 2.8k = 16.8k tops) on top of vulnerability stacking, which practically means 2 WWs at once and switching straight to hammer asap to keep comstant symbols. Waiting around for another WW is not bad, but my symbols pump out tons of dmg over the fight
But you’re not “waiting around” for another WW. Weapon swap and WW both have 10s cooldowns. Which means that you’re only delaying your weapon-swap by 4s (or however long WW lasts). You’re also still getting the Symbol of Wrath in there. The only thing my rotation misses out on is 9% extra damage from vulnerability before WW.
(edited by Finnway.2183)
@Finnway
Wrong. #4 then VoJ/LoF combo followed by WW will yield more dmg over the burst rotation.
WW is our highest damage skill. If you start with that you can use it twice before weapon-swapping and hence do more damage overall. The third hit of the auto-attack chain also gives you one might stack for each enemy it hits (up to two stacks/enemy over the course of two chains) so the second WW hits higher then the first.
@FinnwayAlso UC is 20% damage plus virtue boons. Thats better than 100 more power and 5% dmg just to GS.
I know what you’re saying. The only reason I suggested it is the 25 minor trait increases Hammer’s DPS.
Berserker gear isn’t recommended in WvW. Other players are smart and they will punish your low survivability.
Berserker is the best choice in PvE. If you’re not comfortable in it then Knights is the best option.
I would just go with whatever you’re wearing now. But if you’re still not sure, then try out some exotic or rare Berserker and Knights gear and find out what you feel comfortable in.
Your Greatsword rotation should always be:
*2 > *4 > auto-attack > *2 > swap.
This way you get two Whirling Wraths before swapping and #2 and #4 will be off cooldown when you swap back. You can use #3 or #5 during the Auto-Attack part.
You can go 25 in Zeal and get (VII) Zealous Blade instead of 10 in Virtues. The 25 minor-trait increases Hammer DPS.
(edited by Finnway.2183)
Just to clarify, I’m playing her mostly for dungeons.
If you’re looking for a PvE build then you’re better off not going into Valor at all. It’s our weakest trait-line in PvE, and it has mostly PvP related traits. Even Meditations are more useful in PvP than PvE.
The only time you really go into Valor in PvE is when you get (VI) Retributive Honor and (IX) Honorable Shield for a Scepter/Shield or Sword/Shield build with 30 points in Radiance for (XI) Right-Hand Strength.
If you want a build with good support and survivability then this build is a good alternative to AH. With (VII) Writ of Persistence in Honor, the Hammer’s auto-attack chain can provide a party with permanent protection.
My theory is some new threat, greater then Scarlett, will arise and she will be forced to team up with us to defeat it. She will be the only one who can defeat it though, and she will sacrifice herself to save everyone.
I just don’t see her as the game’s long-term villain, and we do still have the Elder Dragons to take care of.
The Arena Net devs said “Kitten it! We’ll make one more update with the craziest ideas we can think of. If the players don’t love it we’ll make an expansion.”
And that’s why the Tower of Nightmares is…
- Dynamic events that must be completed to even enter.
- Multiple Jumping Puzzles on your way to the top.
- Two Dungeons along the way.
- An epic Zerg Boss Battle at the top (think Orr rather than Teq)
- A portal opens to a brand new Zone where ascended armor drops.
- No WP’s. At all.
- Meta achievement resets daily and has scaling rewards.
Basically, they said “Let’s just take the hardest version of every type of content and mash it all together.”
EDIT: This post is in the spirit of fun. It’s not based on fact.
(edited by Finnway.2183)
Is it true? Are guardians just plain bad now? Or are people overreacting.
People are overreacting. The reason Guardian didn’t get lots of buffs this patch is because we are in a pretty good place overall, especially compared to other classes. The only thing our class dramatically lacks in right now is PvP roaming Guardian —which is exactly what they buffed (although it still needs work).
btw, buffing support for other classes indirectly buffs Guardian because it allows us to focus more on DPS in groups.
(edited by Finnway.2183)
Okay, I redid my build. Tell me what you guys think…
This is a good build. I hope you have fun playing it. It’s almost identical to Brazil the Hue’s hammer build.
Only thing I’d change is VII Writ of Persistence in you honor master line. That is a ~20% dps boost since your symbols will last longer, therefore doing more damage. Duration > Size.
This is good advice.
Take five out of Zeal, and put it in Honor or Virtues to get a damage multiplier.
This is bad advice. Everyone in your party will benefit from those stacks of vulnerability. The increased damage from 25 in Honor or 25 in Virtues only benefits you and it isn’t very good.
(edited by Finnway.2183)
our burning effect should have some sort of secondary attached to it, such as reducing damage done by burning targets by x%
I really like this idea as a trait.
also Retaliation should scale with toughness
It’s worth noting Diablo 3 had the same problem with reflect damage and this is the solution they discussed implementing.
(edited by Finnway.2183)
I don’t have much faith in healing power because I feel that it only means I get up from being downed more often. This is my first heavy armor character and I feel that I should emphasize more on toughness…
Oh, we’re not advising you to go into Honor for healing power. We’re advising you to go into Honor because the traits are more useful. In general, the Valor trait-line isn’t very useful in PvE.
Groups depend on warriors and guardians to pick them back up and act as walking walls in dungeons. I want to be able to do this.
Guardians that are super-survivable use hammer builds. The hammer drops a symbol of protection during its auto-attack chain, which grants protection and does damage. If you get (VII) in Honor (symbols last longer) it increases hammer DPS by 20-30% and you’ll have protection up on your party almost permanently.
Look at this build You will notice I switched you to Greatsword and Hammer. I also put Signet of Judgment (-10% incoming damage) on your tool bar. The two major traits in Honor work with the Hammer’s auto attack, and they synergize well with the 15 and 25 minor traits in Zeal.
I also want to have a crit build over condition damage because all my characters already do that.
I might be giving you information overload now, but you might want to check out this video. It’s probably the most common Guardian DPS build for dungeon runs, and it will teach you a lot about how Guardians damage builds work. (the build has two different versions, one for GS and one for Sword/Focus.)
