Well, I think it’s not that bad: finally, after 2 years, EVERY class has a potential in SPVP.
Check Metabattle, or OstrichEggs/VeeWee/Hiba streams at Twitch.com.
Right now the meta builds are Celestial Rifle Triple kit, P/S Condi and (sigh) Turrets.
except even non-turret specs are faceroll too.
I think that you are not objectively speaking. A skilled engineer is, without any doubt, one of the most powerful things that you could encounter in SPVP, but an engineer needs a lot of practice to reach the level of expertise you’re, probably, speaking about.
inb4 “Hello frands”
I lol’d
Because by far most faceroll class in GW2
I think that you are not objectively speaking. A skilled engineer is, without any doubt, one of the most powerful things that you could encounter in SPVP, but an engineer needs a lot of practice to reach the level of expertise you’re, probably, speaking about.
Simple:
Add an in-game message for when a pvp tournament has begun or is being streamed. Having the banner on the forum page with links is great, but an in-game message would help to promote pvp and draw in the masses of non-pvp players.
I agree. I’ve suggested something similiar, but promotion INGAME should be already implemented.
- Color track – rewards dyes
- Remodel Track – rewards trans charges and hair kits / character kits on completion
- Wealth track – rewards fixed price items to boost gold gain by a little bit (each reward gives like…5 items worth 10s each type of thing?)
- Resource Track – As the track progresses, gives t1-6 materials and rewards rares at “check points”
- Storage (Spring Cleaning) track – Rewards bags, black lion salvage kits, etc.
- WvW track – rewards siege, silver, badges of honor (i cant imagine it being better farm that EotM though…)
- Fractal track – various materials, fractal relics, and skin choice on complete
- SAB track – (reactivate the bauble merchant) rewards baubles, miniature crafting items, weapon crafting items/pieces (these things are WAY too expensive on the TP, there needs to be a way to get these weapon skins)
- <Insert Season> track – rewards similar items granted from event farming during Mad King, Wintersday, Jubilee, Dragon Bash, etc.
I endorse this message, +1

My 2 cents: the skill is too long, hard to dodge with 1 dodge. Reduce the casting time
This & not this also. I men, experienced players will surely dodge it and have no problem at all with that, but what about new levels who see 8k damage in less than 2 seconds (and from 1500 range)?
Thank you again!
Other quick questions: when should I use the “guard” command on my pet and when should I not? What’s the difference?
I’ve had few problems fighting rangers right after they were buffed because I wasn’t used to fighting them: I could beat them, but not easily.
Then I made a ranger (there’s a topic of mine, in the Ranger section asking for help) and after discovering they are truly FUN to play, I also understood better their mechanics. Now I do not ignore their pets anymore, for example. Ranger is in a very good spot, at the moment, but I do not think it’s OP.
I should also point out that I’m speaking from a TPVP perspective.
solo queue è una gran merda, perché se dopo tanta fatica per entrare in top 1k mi metti in squadra con noobs che hanno fatto pochi match, o gente che sta al 20% di rank , è una presa per il culo e basta.
YE WHAT THIS GUY SAYS SOUNDS GOOD
He basically said “SoloQ is crap, because after you play a lot to get into top 1k you get paired with noobs or players at 20% of LB. It just takes the kitten out of us”.
Alright, I’ve tried this build and followed your advice. Ranger is truly FUN and surprisingly challenging. I’ve taken signet mastery because I rely a lot on that “endure pain” and Signet of Renewal.
Speaking about SoR, I’ve found it to be very useful, but not very reliable. Sometimes my pet is just too far from me, and my conditions aren’t cleansed. I know I could swap pets, but sometimes I’ve got the swap on CD. The “return to me” pet command, also, is kind of broken: sometimes the pet immediatly comes back (like, immediatly) and sometimes it just takes 5 seconds, which are a very lot of time. Isn’t there a more reliable condi cleanse of some sort? Or do I need to stick to that?
This is the same old problem. Playerbase is too small.
After you’ve passed a certain “treshold”, leaving the real newcomers (noobs) behind, you can’t possibly be matched with opponents with your skill level because the higher you get the tinier the population becomes and you’ll eventually face too stronger opponents.
Hello frands! Vee Wee here, #1 Engi NA and world first rank 80!
Vee Wee thinks there are many reasons why queues are so long!
- The community is TINY!
- People are bored of conquest! 2 years same game mode! It gets old!
- Not many people play this game!
- The population is small!
- Conquest is boring!
- Boring!
- Small!
- Tiny!
Wahoo! Bye frands!
Basically, this. Our community is too small. We should get advertised more with in-game pop-ups of some sort.
Currently the situation is like: “hey there’s a SPVP tournament which has a 50k $ prize, it’s kind of a big thing, it’s called tournament of Glory, and nobody knows anything about it because to be informed about that you MUST read the SPVP forums while 90% of GW2 population don’t even know what SPVP is.”
I think Anet should create LOTS of new “SPVP only” achievements to get PvE players in here. Eventually, some of them will start getting attached to SPVP and keep playing.
Thanks for your responses!
I do not know what a KT is, but I suppose it’s something that has to do with Pets’ skills. I have another question: why Rune of the Pack over Rune of the Ranger? I’m too lazy to do the math to discover which one provides more DPS (especially if someone has already done that!).
And again: what other pets are viable, even if not optimal, with this build? Fern Hound, Bear and Pink Moa seem suitable choices.

Thanks again for the responses! I have other quick questions on Eurantien’s Build (which yes, is the one I was looking for):
1) why Shared Anguish? 90 seconds CD are a lot. There are, in my opinion (which is probably wrong) better traits in there.
2) Why no Signet Mastery?
3) Why Intelligence on GS? Isn’t that a bit redundant, especially if you consider you gain fury on weapon swap?
4) I read that Canines do their CC attack at the beginning of the combat. Are they “reliable” in doing so? Can I legitimately expect them to CC my target as soon as they get in range?
5) If I’m on LB and I trigger “moment of clarity” what should I do next? Simply autoattack?
Thanks again!
First of all, thanks to everyone for the responses!
Yes, I should have pointed out that the “meta” is for TeamQ, and it has to cover the spiker role. My team is currently wondering wether to switch our DPS necro for a DPS ranger or not, and I’m just testing the DPS ranger to know the class better
…by creating a ranger and playing one myself. I’ve been told THIS is the current meta for Power Rangers. Unfortunately I do not know anything about rangers so, here are some very basic questions:
1) Is that the correct build? Or at least a very viable one?
2) Are those pets good? Is the AI so much unreliable?
3) What’s better between GS and Sword/X for melee range, and why?
4) Is the Healing Skill the correct one? And the Elite? Why?
5) Is there any trick I should know about rangers before trying one?
Thanks in advance.
You mean in 6 months?;)
I lol’d
Fun fact:
P/P unload used twice has a higher DPS than RF and the same casting duration.
That’s not even a fact:
2xUnload = 1.75×2 = 3.5 seconds of casting (without counting the aftercast of the first unload)
Rapid Fire = 2.5 seconds of casting.
And, btw, you can’t really compare Rapid Fire to Unload, and I think that you probably already know why :P
Just increase Rapid Fire’s CD, like 12 seconds not traited. Just that. And I’m not even sure wether it should be changed or not.
I’m personally having problems dealing with rangers, but I believe it’s just because I’m not used to fighting rangers and I don’t really know their true weaknesses: previous this patch they just melted, no matter what :P
As long as Engineers are as weak as they are against conditions, they wont be as OP as you claim them to be.

Do you even play engi? Fumigate doesn’t even remove conditions on the user. Did you just linked random skills?
I’d totally love to write a long and exhaustive post on how little you know about engineer (I’m not being rude, it’s just the plain truth) but it would take too much of my time and expert players already know what I would have written.
@Eurantien: yep, you listed the things engineers are good at, but you are ignoring the things engineers suck at. Like removing conditions, and breaking stuns, or gaining stability.
Everytime is the same old story: people making biased assumptions on everything. I don’t know why I’m even posting on the forums, I should just stop and give up on hoping people to show some form of objectivity.

Nah, thief is already in a not very good spot, it doesn’t need to be countered more.
I think it would be cool to allow every player to decide ONE MAP that he can exclude from his soloQ matchups
Playerbase is not high enough.
Ranger is the new thief. And can hit from 1500 range.
At least rangers can’t stealth. Oh wait…
(I’m joking, of course.. rangers don’t have the same escape abilities that thieves’ have, thus making rangers perfectly fine, imho).
Using standard models, btw, is kind of stupid when you face 2 players using the same class… imagine being against 2 mesmers who look EXACTLY the same.. trust me, it’s hell on earth.
Well, Anet once said that WvW rankings would never be reset for any reason in the world and a couple of days ago teh resetted them for the third time or something. And custom arenas can be 10 vs 10, at the moment.
Just a quick question: what do you think about warriors running sigil of impact + Intelligence on Hammer and Battle + Energy on LB (thus giving up sigil of doom)?
I’m not having this prob at all…
“…because only people who like intentional handicaps run a GS on warrior.”
This.
By the way, it could just you being disappointed at the supposed “big number” not being big enough.
Lord Rush over a deathmatch is better since in a 15+ vs 15+ environment (hoping these new maps are for 15+ vs 15+ matches) a deathmatch could last forever: half a dozen of thieves could “permastealth” the entire team, for example.
Tier 1: Guardian, Warrior, Ele
Tier 2: Ele, Engineer, Necro
Tier 3: Necro, Thief, Mesmer
Tier 4: Thief, Mesmer, Ranger
I put some classes twice because I feel like sometimes the definition of “how good a class is” depends on the player’s skill. For example, I’d certainly pick Sizer in a team over a top 100 Necro.
I’m interested in this too. I’ve been trying GS but it still feels meh. Arcing slice doesn’t do enough damage. It should have been a 100% damage buff under 50% HP, imho. At the moment it is just a very weak Eviscerate.
And the AMULET! What amulet for SPVP could ever be useful on GS?
I’ve been playing since launch.
The crying will not stop. The best warriors will continue to dominate and the weak will re roll to other classes. Simple as that. Plus, it’s more of a challenge for me. I welcome the change!
truer words could not be spoken! good to see another warrior welcoming the challenge. i think that makes 4 or 5 of us, that i know of, who cant wait for the terribad evis spamming wars to qq-reroll away.
Count me in!
Uh, but we actually got 2 new sigils. Sigil of Impact is quite interesting, tbh.
Warrior – over-nerfed
Ranger – over-buffed
Engineer – turrets weren’t fixed
Ele – needed nerf, got buff
Thief – got bugged (fixed)
Necro – got bugged
SUCH BALANCE
I’m trying to speak objectively, here’s what I think:
Warrior – brought on par with other classes, GS still not really viable.
Ranger – now in a better position than before, but still not optimal.
Engineer – turrets needed to be nerfed more, QoL about FT, but still meh.
Ele – fine as it is, I’m glad they didn’t touch it
Thief – it didn’t need to be changed in the first place, especially D/P.
Necro – slightly buffed, QoL improvements.
Guard – medguard is now a viable DPS source, nice job on that.
Mesmer – QoL improvements, but they buffed the wrong things.
Medguard is fine. If they takes the extra 2k HP heal, they are most likely not running condi cleanses. Damage is still the same as before, BTW.
You are way too soon. A meta cannot be judged within 2 days. Hambow warrior took months to be discovered after the patch prior to it becoming a very strong build.
How are you saying the meta is the same anyways? Are you judging this from hotjoins? Solo queue? I’ve already seen top teams starting to try new builds/compositions out and I can guarantee you it’s not the same stuff.
Yeah, I should probably wait more time. I’m currently checking the ESL streaming (thanks, jebro, for your work!) to see if any changes have been introduced.
BTW, I said the meta was still the same after playing few TeamQ matches against players using “new” builds (GS warrior, LB Ranger, lots of medguards).
I love veewee.
What I mostly wanted from this patch (beside the disappointment from no new gamemods/maps) was for it to change th meta, somehow.
Apparently it is still the same. Am I too soon, and things need to settle down more, or do you think the meta we’ve seen the past few months will stay with us untill Feb?
agree.
Hello! I’m trying to create some sort of decapper build but also able to actually kill people. Here’s the LINK.
I have few concerns, though: do you think that the idea of mixing a decapper with another kind of build/role is a bad idea? How would YOU accomplish the creation of such build? How would you modify the build I created?
Thanks in advance.
It’ is considered unfair because there are unwritten rules for duels.
I hate those guys who tell you you are no able use this or that you are noob because you use this trait or build. War (even duel) is never fair. I play for win and will always use everything even all dirty tricks I have and if opponent not? Thats not my problem.
As I said in my post, everyone can do whatever he wants to: using everything you can to win a duel surely is a solid point of view.
At the same time, following these rules is a sort of code of honor that people may or may not want to follow. It’s just considered “fairplay”, just like when in a ESL weekly tournament of some weeks ago a player disconnected from one team and one player of the enemy team decided to go “afk” to even the match.
Just like I said, I prefer to not to use Crate in order to win a duel (in Hotjoins only, NOT in a competitive environment) because that’s a method to prove yourself you are capable of winning following that code.
Everyone is free to do whater he wants!
VeeWee, the runes ARE ordered alphabetically…
Rune of Adventure
Rune of Strength
Rune of THE Afflicted
Rune of THE Vampirism
It’s the “the”
Roaming is the poor men’s SPVP, and believe me, I started as a roamer (Shadow Rejuvenation D/P permastealth thief, yay) and I loved/love roaming.
Then I discovered SPVP and men, I was awful. I was so good at roaming, I couldn’t understand why I couldn’t be good at SPVP. In my mind it was the same thing as roaming: kill or be killed. Well, it is not. Definetely not.
But it wasn’t just the fact that I was using useless builds, or that I didn’t understand the concept of “seizeing and holding points”, I was awful in duels too.
So that’s the point of why SPVP players now complains about WvW roamers being noob: they are used to kill underleveled players, and/or players who doesn’t have duels oriented builds: just imagine a Thief built for 1v1s vs a Warrior using a zerg build… that’s not a good way to learn how to play.
Moreover, they are completely ignoring the fact that SPVP isn’t only about killing, but also about conquering and holding points, helping teammates, positioning and vision.
On the other side, roamers often praises “SPVP players” for being very good.
The Ele is targeted first because it has a lower Health Pool and a lower Armor, so coordinated bursts can take one Ele down very quickly, while the warrior could tank the damage for much longer.
But what you are missing is that warrior completely lacks of active sustain. If the elementalist is good enough, he will NOT die even if targeted (Lightning Flash, or RTL alone can save you a lot of times), while the warrior, once designated as the next target, will surely die, sooner or later.
Being a D/D Ele helps your team alot, because of all the Might stacks you give, the AoE Protection, Regeneration, Swiftness, blast finishers, healing through water skills and so on. So personally I’d say: if you are willing to get very good, stay Ele, and learn positioning (yes, you can go out the point if you need to recover!).
It’ is considered unfair because there are unwritten rules for duels.
“No elite over 120 seconds CD” is one of them, mostly because those kind of elites can turn the 1v1 in your favor very quickly, just like Supply Crate, or Lich Form, or Moa Morph. Other examples are “no Pu mesmers” and “no Shadow Rejuvenation thieves”, and there some amulets restrictions too.
It’s not a valid reason for being called noob, though, especially if you’re in a tournament and you NEED to win that 1v1, but if you are in hot join, and the enemy respects those rules, it could be a good idea to just stick to them.
Rest assured, you can just ignore the rules and do whatever you like. I basically never use Supply Crate in a Hot Join 1v1, but if I encountered an engi who does, I would use mine too.
If only they reworked AR into something USEFUL instead of the BS it’s now I’d be a happier engineer
Like, it procs at 50% HP and gives you 5 seconds immunity to all condition damage, ICD 60 secs (worse than berz stance!)
You know you don’t have to wait there, right? You can do PVE, WvW, or hotjoin all while you wait.
Yes, but then when you leave a match you are automatically redirected to HotM, regardless of where you were before.
I personally think that an extremely difficult JP and/or an extremely difficult 1v1 arena against NPCs could really improve our QoL in SPVP.
This post deserves more attention.
P.S.
They could add some sort of SAB for PvPers
Buff? 17% DPS increase of a low-damage single target attack which roots the caster, you mean? Well, I guess people just want to complain about everything
