Stop taking advice given by bad players to heart then. If you don’t lose to mesmers you know “to dodge” is not a valid argument regardless. If you don’t lose to mesmers you are agreeing other people just need to play better.
‘L2P’ is just as pathetic an argument. I don’t lose to mesmers because the build I’m running atm is a hard counter. Everyone should build to counter mesmers right? The only role on a team is ‘mesmer hunter’.
Honestly, I don’t care if mesmers are kittening supermen, I’ll just play one. The nerf/buff/balance kitten is irrelevant to me. It’s the inanity of the arguments being used that irritates me. You can’t have a decent discussion on balance on this board because it’s jampacked with forumwarrior sophistry. We could provide productive feedback here, instead it’s a bunch of whining children who can only be ignored, and given an occasional cookie to shut them up for a while.
You come to these forums for constructive criticism? Why? Do you enjoy hurting yourself?
This is a classic example of someone who knows they have lost the argument and are now trying to change the topic. Why don’t you either admit he is right or come up with a good criticism of what he said rather than trolling?
@ Frizz: I am sorry, did the forum became an English class! , next this is not a pvp game, this is an mmo, casual MMO. Pvp is one of its strong point, not pvp is the one and only one. Why should they add a pve in a pvp game as you assume, why gem store that offer most of the stuff that will only be used by pveer. Take those input and think!
I don’t expect much English just enough that I can understand your argument. Your awfully arrogant assuming that I don’t understand you because I don’t agree with you. Mesmers still have their illusions they are on a longer CD. This is fair as they pumped them out too fast. Maybe you just need to relax and go learn how to play your class rather than abusing anyone who disagrees with you?
@Frizz: Good for you, cause you will nv understand as stated!
Ok but you are correct sir..I will claim illusions etc do all the damage. Because they do. Your just going to have to learn to play now and be a big boy,
You still don’t understand hahahah.
Let makes this clear go to gw2 site read up what mesmer have to offer. Then tell me what are the traits that classify a mesmer, then tell me what mesmer is base on, then only come back and post!
You assumption is that I don’t understand what you are talking about. But I do understand what you are talking about, you are just wrong.
@Frizz: Good for you, cause you will nv understand as stated!
Ok but you are correct sir..I will claim illusions etc do all the damage. Because they do. Your just going to have to learn to play now and be a big boy,
If you walk over and 2 hit them, that’s 2000-3000 damage that the mesmer didn’t take. Every 10 seconds with swapping, 7 with a utility. If the skills did nothing except heal you for 2k-3k every 7-10s, they would be insanely strong. As it is, they also deal 2-3k every 6-7s. You actually can’t naturally regenerate endurance fast enough to dodge every phantasm attack anyway, so you’re having a little L2P issue there that you might wanna correct before you post about dodging ever again.
Also, this one’s for everyone, please stop using the kitten ‘just dodge’ defense on every kittening skill in the game. You say ‘just dodge’ I hear ‘This skill is balanced if you have infinite endurance’.
TBH I couldn’t care less whether mesmers got nerfed or not, I’m just sick of stupid arguments from terrible players. I’m bad, but I’m not bad enough to suggest ‘just dodge every phantasm’.
You can always.. walk away.
I’ll do one better, walk away while putting down aoe. If you single target phantasms then your problem is something else entirely.
I don’t lose to mesmers, so don’t try to deflect from the fact that the argument being used is nonsensical. Thanks. In fact, the OP is the one suggesting you single target phantasms. I’m the one pointing out how kitten that is.
Mammoth you basically took the words right out of my mouth, and don’t let these people who have rerolled Mesmer because it was easy get to you. As I said above now people are going to actually have to learn to pvp rather than relying on their illusions etc. Good mesmers will still be good. Bad players who picked an easy class will now suffer. All in all a good result.
One advice don’t reply to Frizz, he will single mindlessly lead u down that phantasm/illusion do all the work when the class state the obvious. Puppies noob troll!
I’m sorry but your sentence doesn’t make any sense.
Mesmers are OP, now you might have to actually learn to fight, rather than relying on your Phantasms to do the work. Welcome, to PvP.
ROFL. Not sure if troll or just ignorant. Have you even played a Mesmer? A Mesmer without illusions is like a ranger without a pet, but worse.
On a serious note to stay on topic – the nerf is not that outrageous. I am guessing most folks will want to pick up Illusionists Celerity now.
You basically just admitted that you rely on your phantasms/illusions to do all the work for you, thus I refer you to my original comment.
Anyone feel they went to far with the phantasm nerf?
They can be killed with ease, you can line of sight them or roll to avoid there initial burst then just walk over and 1 or 2 hit them. They die in seconds from almost all kinds of aoe. They stick out like a sore thumb, so why wouldn’t you go over and kill them?
This nerf needs to be accompanied by a buff that lets them take more damage before death and or makes them less noticeable, They should just look like one of your clones but with a different weapon.
Summoning a phantasm once every 20 secs was a miscalculation, please address this further.
Thoughts?
Yes, mesmers are strong in spvp. Yes, they excel in 1v1 situations. They might even have an advantage over some classes given a comparable skill level, but despite losing to mesmers from time to time, or getting wrecked by good mesmers, I never felt helpless against them. On my ele I can clear their illusions while doing moderate damage to them. The elite elemental summon helps with this of course. Thieves on the other hand, have too much spike. Unfortunately pistol whip isn’t really the root of the problem. Things like quickness (an inherently stupid mechanic since only a few classes have access to it, not all of which suffer the same consequences for using it), assassin’s signet in conjunction with an already huge single hit burst from backstab landing numbers upward of 15k, and the insane spammability of the highest damage skills due to the initiative mechanic.
It really depends on your class. My main is a Necro and Mesmers are the worst class for me to face, and thieves are pretty easy to kill. However, on my Ele I agree with you that Mesmers are not a problem and thieves are.
I am likely to be joining a new guild but the problem is that they are on Jade Quarry and I am on Stormbluff Isle. Everytime I go to transfer I can’t because it is full. Have they permanently made these servers full to reduce their numbers? Is there a workaround? I really want to do WvW with the guild.
I used a similar build but you really do lose dmg output for the control.
Have you been doing this between servers?
The reason I ask, is if the data is taken only from a few servers than the data is likely wrong.
For instance, if you took 10 of those games from the same server (going back to back), the classes make up is likely to stay very similar from game to game. Moreover, it could account for various rankings. One good player in multiple games would skew the average points for that class.
sPvP is cross sever you could face anyone from your regain on any sever.
Taking them self out of the data would mess it up what if they are the best player. They are a player just like anyone else.
There is always the flaw of the fact that some build go for more point then other builds. But the data is still good its nice that you didn’t add the worst played people think it says something but it doesn’t really.
No they are correct. You are bringing in a huge bias if you include yourself in the data since there will always be one warrior in the data set especially if you are good and keep winning. YOu needed to not include yourself and if you won then you simply don’t include that data or take the next highest person. Including yourself, statistically speaking, was a big no no.
I did a similar thing but only looking at class popularity. I never included myself to remove that bias (I am a Necro), and I only did it once every 10 matches because the same people will often flow over from match to match and so you need to make sure you have an independent sample. I found that Guardians/Thieves/Mesmers were the most popular, with Necro, Elementalist and Engineer the least popular. No surprises given that Necro and Ele are thought of as weak and the top three were thought of as OP.
If you are wanting to go down the condition route then don’t go for power. Go for condition damage and toughness (toughness for survivability). Those are the main stats. I would use sceptor and dagger, not daggers. Also, you need to be constantly switching weapons, and using DS as your third ‘weapon’ set, popping into and out of it as needed…
yes they do stack your info is out of date.
Good on you man. I expected some trolling, but I think it’s most excellent work what you ahve done.
I have taken the time to get good and this is my conclusion:
Ele isn’t horribly broken, its just weak base values for health and toughness make playing DPS unviable for spvp, forcing players to play hybrid or support builds to try to be competative.
Necros squishey by design? More health, more toughness similar survivability…
Rangers…
You’re trying to say that anyone who thinks Ele is weak is a bad player and needs to go learn their class.
This is clearly not true, DPS elementalist is not vaible in top level sPvP.
The truth is DPS Elementalist is hard to play well and brings nothing to the team that other classes cannot do better, easier and more efficently.
Elementalist’s are not broken, your ability to play them is.
I hope you weren’t taking this too much to heart. I was speaking in general terms, and it wasn’t directed to you personally.
I was just trying to put a positive spin on things. There’s a lot of negativity going around, and through negativity contempt is born. Which it seems that I have got from you. So, I will remove myself from the discussion since I have little to add if it’s catching the developers attention on balance concerns that you wish to do.
Redawn – I thought your message was accurate. There are some vocal people that hate Necro, and they have valid points, but, like yourself, I would rather stick with the class knowing things will get better. You are not the only happy Necro out there.
So I tried the ranger condition build out. Yeah it applies bleeds fast, but your sharpening stone is on a 45 sec cooldown. Secondly, the necro can just transfer them off him. But most importantly, the Necro has two life bars and so will outlast any ranger which will go down super fast when targeted. Necro’s are harder to play and more challenging – my theory is you rerolled ranger because you couldn’t play necro not because the class was so much worse than ranger.
But when it comes down to it the Ranger playstyle is just a yawn fest.
Marianitten are you going to go into everyones forums and spam your you tube video? You started your own thread for it so that is all that is needed.
As for Necro I LOVE it. It is hard and it is not as powerful as most classes, but that is why it is great because I am constantly learning new techniques and ways to kill people that I wouldn’t need to learn if I played a more powerful class. When Necro’s get their buff, which I’m sure, I will be set!
I also just love how the class feels, looks, the dots and the tankiness. I love how the Necro is the master of conditions too.
Yes it’s hard to find a good guild right now as all the small ones are not recruiting so thought we could attempt to get good players ourselves.
Hey man,
We are trying to get a tournament team going – https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/guilds/guilds/Small-tournament-focused-guild-looking-for-members/first#post125452
Will be doing WvW too. See if that sounds like you.
Adaptation is a newly formed guild that is currently looking for high quality PvP’ers to create a tight knit team to succeed in tournaments (EST time). We will only be looking for enough members that we can form 5 man groups in the evening and weekends. Our emphasis is on working as a tight cohesive unit, and we believe this only occurs in small guilds where members play with each other constantly.
We are looking for strong communication skills in our members. You must call out your CC’s, when you are downed, incoming team members, focus targets etc. More often than not teams lose because of a breakdown in communication not player skills. We want people who work well within a team, and are not more interested in leaving a node, or a downed team member, to get a kill.
Our members are typically late 20’s, and above, so mature people are a bonus even if that means you are 20. We want people who are respectful of others, do NOT troll, do NOT get angry if we lose, and do NOT act elitist. We are very focused on succeeding in PvP, but most of all we want to have fun. We want people who are reasonably active but understand people also have lives.
Previously, our guild members have played with each other for a few years across different MMO’s. The problem was when our guild changed towards the direction of mass recruiting to be able to zerg in WvW. This is not our strategy. There is only a few of us here at present, but this is a good chance for you to get into a guild and form long term bonds with a few people that will play with you for years to come..
Will break out into WvW also, but with a focus on leaving behind the zerg and trying to bait larger groups of players from the opposing team into areas where they can be defeated by smaller numbers though a good use of coordinated CC’s/AOE’s and local geography (i.e bottlenecks).
We are on Jade Quarry, use mumble and have a website (www.adaptationpvp.enjin.com – under construction). If you would like to chat with me I am happy to meet with you on our mumble, or skype. It’s important for you to feel that you will fit in too! Contact Wintles or Frizz.6704 in game or message me here. Hope to speak with you all soon.

You definitely fit my description. We should definitely catch up and have a chat?
Sigh….no love…..
Let us be honest with ourselves... Necro bugs, balance and red posts

When I read Jon Peters argument, rather than just outright refuse to believe it, I thought how could I improve my use of Death Shroud and perhaps take something from what he is saying. I suggest you do the same because to some extent he is right. I’m not saying Necro’s don’t need a buff but DS can be used for a large variety of circumstances.
I am on the hunt for a mature small sized guild that is currently active in tournament sPvP and WvW. The most important thing for me is to start getting involved with a team that is doing tournaments. I prefer a smaller sized guild for this reason because it means I will be playing with the same members and we can continuously be learning and figuring out ways to improve our game. In large guilds that tight knit feeling and cohesiveness gets lost. It would be preferred if we had set times to do this, but really I just want to be able to do tournaments often.
The second most important aspect of the game for me is WvW. I have not done much of this previously because I am not currently guilded (obviously), and I find it incredibly boring running with the zerg. I belonged to a guild in Rift that was a small functional unit that would take on much larger numbers via good communication (coordinating CC’s, focus targeting), and by using the map to our advantage (baiting bigger groups through bottlenecks and using AOE’s/CC’s to tear them down. – for example). To me this is a much more effective and fun way to play. Again a small guild is ideal for this as it allows the same people to work together and learn with one another.
The reason I left my guild is because their focus became all about being a big guild. Because I don’t like zergs and I don’t feel the team spirit is found in such guilds, and this effects game play, I left. I am ideally after a mature guild with members 30+, but realise this is probably not possible, so I would ask that there must be some old kittens in your guild…I don’t want to be the grandpa. I love ribbing people, and joking around, but I don’t like full on trolling especially against other teams because they are winning. I want to play with competitive people, but on the flip side, I also want to have fun so I don’t mind losing. I don’t want to be chastised or have people getting angry because things arn’t going our way. I will have fun win or lose if we are communicating well and doing what we should be doing. In other words, I am after no dramas. I am absolutely NOT interested in PVE. I will do a dungeon once but it ends there. If your guild is not pvp focused then I am not a good match for you., and please no hybrids.
What I bring…I am currently on a NA server, Jade Quarry, but am happy to transfer for the right guild. I am a Necromancer, and even though this class is underpowered right now, I pick classes based on what I like and I try to learn them well. My philosophy is that to do well with a class you are best to focus on it rather than playing a lot of alts of switching to that FOTM class. It’s during the hard times that you learn the most after all. I have considerable PvP experience having played in Rift, SWTOR, WOW, and now here in a PvP focused guild. So by no means am I a veteran or an elite player like some of these guys from DoAC are, but I am always willing to learn from better players than myself and improve my game. Having said that I know how to PvP and most importantly I know how to listen, and work as a team…you will never see me overextending, or not rezzing someone in order to get that kill.
I realise that there are small guilds out there that full this role, however, the downside is that most of these guilds are probably not recruiting since they have their tight knit group. But if you are willing to take a chance I would greatly appreciate it!
My ingame name is Wintles or Frizz.6704…. I would love to chat or skype/vent/mumble/TS if you want to have a conversation. In fact that would be ideal.
Hello,
I am currently in the process of looking for a guild where I can meet some cool people and spend my nights.
What I want:
I am looking for a smallish guild with members who are mature (avg age of 30+ would be ideal but not necessary). In a perfect scenario I would fit into a guild that has members who have stuck together for several years and just happen to be looking for some new fresh players.
I am interested in 1) tournaments and 2) organised WvW. I am very interested in joining a small team of people who consistently play tournaments with the intention of doing well (whether that happens or not), who try to adapt their playstyle so they continually improve, and who communicate well. I would prefer to avoid guilds with players who randomly decide to do tournaments as I want to develop with a team that has a structured approach to tournaments. Doing tournaments is a big attraction to me and is a must for any guild I join.
I am also wanting to get into WvW but not with the zerg. Previously I have belonged to a guild which was very organised in open world pvp. We would take on groups of players much larger than ourselves by communicating well (i.e timing CC’s), setting up situations where the environment favours us and baiting other players into it(ie. bottlenecks), and basically through good organisation been able to fight much larger groups and be very effective. This is what I am looking for in WvW and again a small group of players would be ideal to achieve this.
More generally I am looking for people who are laid back and not elitist or highly strung. I am competitive and I want to do well, but I don’t mind losing as long as we are doing the basics well and are having fun.
What I bring:
I am an experienced PvPer having played several MMO’s previously. I tend to play DOT based specs and love using LOS to my advantage and so I guess it is no surprise I have picked a Necro. I also generally pick the short races due to their inconspicuousness and so have, of course, gone for an Asura. Plus they just look cool and sound funny when they limp.
At the moment I am on Jade Quarry but am willing to move for the right guild.
