Because it’s one of the worst PvE offhands, unfortunately. The Prestige would be considerably better if it had an effect that occurred over the duration of its channel, but as it is the skill is mostly a waste of time on an equally wasteful cooldown.

The Mage is decent in theory, but a shatter-based Mesmer with appropriate cooldown management can keep confusion applied almost 90% of the time. Perhaps on a support build… but wait no, that doesn’t work, the main support option is the Focus. If you tried to stick the torch in a second set you’d be forced into using the sceptre, at which point you’re better off committing sudoku anyways.

Warden – 31 Seconds
Duelist – 39 Seconds
Swordsman – 34 Seconds

How long it took each Illusion to kill a stationary training Golem in the Mists with pvp weapons.
Considering the Warden is stationary this means Swordsman seems the best (also the sword 4 is very strong).
However the Warden can reflect projectiles. This comes at the high cost of a bunch of trait points that could go elsewhere. But where else?

I just can’t decide.

I’m in a similar dilemma. The reflection trait isn’t always useful, but when it is, it’s godly. I’d like to give some of the other offhands a try alongside Sword/Focus, but that’s impossible to justify since the Sceptre is horrible.

I’m stuck with 20 inspiration, wanting to go elsewhere for awhile, but having nowhere to go. I’ve been working on a pure damage set I might try with a shatter build, but I haven’t much faith in it working well.

They’re supposed to stun him for a decent length of time, allowing the party to do a free burn on him.

However, more often than not he’ll still spit his essences even while stunned, allowing the party to keep him stunned indefinitely. I liked that this was the case, as it made an ordinarily arduous boss fight a bit more easy if your group is competent enough, but alas.

Yeah, same. We had everyone just run up to the balcony. This usually stopped adds from spawning, but if they did, we just ran around on the top level as they weren’t too hard to kite. Sorta reminded me of that scene from Jurassic Park where the two kids are crawling all over the kitchen trying to hide from raptors.

Weird comparison, I know, but we really don’t bother DPSing the adds since they keep flickering in and out of existence.

It doesn’t have to “diminish” because of a guild don’t you think? What have SoS done to you? We did not choose or force RUN to come. They decided it, we simply welcome them. What’s with all the “oh my server’s better than you now that you have this guild and I will enjoy killing you more.”? So with that can I say kitten TC, you guys suck because you have Winterwolf? in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Right. The silvers only spawn once per console use, so kill them.

Once the silvers are down, notice there are 4 spawn ‘areas’ in the corners of the room, where golems appear on platforms. Just send one person to each area and have them run around meleeing golems as they turn red. All they have to do is basically make circles around the pillars. If all silvers are dead, this frees up the console for your fifth party member to use. So long as people are active on each of the four spawn quadrants, they should be unobstructed.

CoE is pretty much the ideal dungeon, as far as Arenanet’s design goals. Decent length (~1 hour a run), varied and semi-challenging bosses, more or less glitch/exploit-free. For those reasons, people really don’t want to run CoE. There’s no shortcuts or excuses.

SE is fairly easy and full of exploits. 10m to 40m for each non-Rasolov route.

Any tips how to actually get a group for dungeons, i’m really struggling to find people to run with. I’ve tried a couple of servers and different guilds. Everyone seems more interested in zergfesting WvW. Are there any servers where dungeon groups are not a miracle to find?

Ideally, you’d have run dungeons while leveling up, noted competent players, added them to your friends list and invited them to future dungeons, etc. That’s how I did it, at any rate, and by the time I hit 80 I had a group of new friends that all wanted to do Arah with me, given our record of success.

If that’s not an option for you, you’re going to have to find these friends in what dungeon you -can- manage. This may mean you’ll have to run around broadcasting “LFG any Explorable” even if you don’t want to do the explorable in question. Consider also joining a LFG guild of some sort – I think one’s being advertised on the GW2 SubReddit, if you hang around that place.

Recently is spot on, too. If you aren’t getting success you have to take initiative. Most people are too timid or lazy to lead; if you try leading and end up being good at it, people will flock to you.

Dungeon Tips

Furienify.5738

Communication is super important. If nobody in your group talks, nobody will get anywhere. If you talk you might make some friends to do more dungeons with.

Rezzing allies > killing enemies, unless the situation calls for a rally-kill or it’s simply not possible to get your ally back up without putting yourself at extreme risk.

Dodging is not your only way to avoid damage. Blocks, protections, walls, anti-projectile, stealth, weakness, kiting – it all stops damage. If you have skills that assist in these aspects, BRING THEM.

Bring utilities that you know you will use. Signet builds are usually awful because they bring nothing to the table; they just sit there and provide passive buffs that, more often than not, do absolutely nothing for your team. There are some exceptions to this rule, but they are few in number.

When you say the encounter doesn’t take that long, how long are you talking about, approximately? We found that jumping down the panels as soon as the lasers manifest did not yield enough DPS time for the group, as a whole.

Assuming no deaths? Under 10 minutes with my group. 2 Mesmers, 1 Elementalist, 1 Thief, 1 Engineer. Nobody should be standing back at anywhere and RDPSing the guy; he’s pretty much harmless in melee so long as people know to not stand in red circles. You can spec almost entirely for damage and mobility, while teleports and stun breakers will help if you do get knocked in the lava.

I still believe they need a closer waypoint; it’s a fun fight when you can actually tackle all the jumps and mechanics with some confidence, but the runback just deters new folks from trying their hand at it (deterred from enjoying themselves, what is this world coming to) since they risk wasting their group’s time.

Just did Sorrow’s Embrace, and we were all first timers, the only issue we had with the 3rd boss with 4 stages and a different golem per stage.

That fire golem…. WOW, we died so many times to that thing, so hard to dodge his fire attack which goes for every player. The end boss was a joke, but the 3rd boss fire golem stage, that was the hardest boss I have meet so far! Any hints for him?

I know I’m sounding like a broken record, but again, reflects and anti-projectile will destroy him. If you can reflect a full volley of his fire AoE, he gets by ALL those little projectiles and the ensuing AoE, losing well over a third of his health.

If that’s not a viable strategy, as soon as you see the AoE it’s important that you dodge TOWARDS him. The AoE targets each player, peppers the ground immediately on them, and a lot of area just behind them. The fire golem is mostly about range moderation; when he shoots his AoEs he’s trying to force your party into melee range so he can use his flamethrower, while the T and E golems are using the pulls and shields to do more damage to your (now-clumped-together) party.

Edit: Oh, you meant story mode kitten Reflects might still work I guess.

Ok, when we ran down the platforms, the three of us had about 2 second of DPS time before he was immune again.

Are you sure you’re doing it right?

As soon as you see all three lasers manifest, everyone runs for the platforms and starts jumping down. You have time for go through a full Mesmer Time Warp (10s) before the shield even starts flickering back into existence. If you’re super worried about getting caught or not making it back, said Mesmer can easily portal everyone back to the ledges.

I pretty much agree with Gies. If everyone has experience with jumping puzzles or Vistas, the fight doesn’t take that long, especially if casualties are minimized. All you stand to lose, really, is time. (Which is a pity and why I think there should be a closer waypoint.)

Furienify.5738

It’s not really an individual pull, though. The Long Road (as the Waypoint is called, at least) is basically half the dungeon on its own. The two bosses in the grenadier section both drop chests, as does the one immediately after that. Then the final boss that drops the tokens. In truth, if you know all the terrain glitches for this instance, you can clear it in under 10 minutes.

I don’t think it’s much different from, say, CoF Superweapon path, where having either insane DPS or readily-applicable poison is mandatory. Many classes can’t keep poison up consistently; it’s mostly an Adventurer thing.

Still, if you don’t have a source of anti-projectile (and I’m not lying when I say a Mesmer can afk this part of the job) your best bet is to pull the grenadiers back to the area by the waypoint and spread out, thus giving you the most room to maneuver. After that, do the kill-down-to-one strategy and proceed as normal. If anyone dies, the waypoint is only a foot away.

Sorrow's Embrace

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: Furienify.5738

Furienify.5738

The grenadiers have nothing but projectile attacks, so any form of projectile block or reflection will trivialize them. You can also kill them down to only 1 grenadier to limit the threat; so long as that one survivor remains alive, they won’t respawn. Depending on your party, you may have to split – have one person distract the remaining grenadier while everyone else tackles the golem and Nokk.

You didn’t have to split before, where engaging Nokk would stop the spawns. With Arenanet’s clumsy patch, though, they respawn even if you’re fighting Nokk. This is especially true for the lone survivor; if he runs to the door past the first waypoint, the game just kills him and forces a whole new group to spawn, potentially ruining your fight.

Depending on your group’s composition, using anti-projectile stuff may be extremely inefficient or impossible though.

How interesting. Given that Alpha seems to be a conglomerate of dragon mutations, Mordramoth probably is our sixth. Not even gonna touch the sylvari conspiracy that crops up in every other thread, though.

I went through my own experience with the fight and the skills and came across this. Consider:

Teeth of Jormag: Frost AoE
Teeth of Primordus: Fire/Dragon Fang AoE
Teeth of Mordramoth: Earth crag AoE line

On a whim I searched, and looked what I found:
http://www.gw2db.com/skills/14254-tooth-of-kralkatorrik

The second and third times you fight Alpha, he will randomly encase a party member in purple crystal. Identical to the crystals used by the Shatterer, among many other Branded minions. I could not find a skill name for it, but he most definitely does animate nearby Inquest corpses into Risen asura, as well as summoning undead tendrils.

I’m not 100% sure of it, but I do want to point out – the pattern fits.

Yes, this even applies to people fighting in melee. Indeed, even most trash has its counters. I would go so far as to say that only three or four boss fights are genuinely difficult, and that several are very undertuned or one-dimensional.

If you think of any fight in the game as “They attack me faster than my endurance regenerates for dodging”, or otherwise rely on dodging as your end-all be-all form of damage evasion, you are doing it woefully wrong.

It’s so unpolished it’s an almost spiritually painful experience to go through. His collision detection with the pillars in his room is awful. More often than not, he will bug halfway through, and stop colliding with pillars entirely. If he’s not phasing through pillars, he’s standing still for minutes at a time glitched into some sort of flinching “in pain” animation. This means a group has to whittle down his health, dealing anywhere from 1 to (our group’s highest) 600 damage per attack. We’re talking about a fight that goes on for over 30 minutes, here. This can’t be working as intended.

Unless I’m missing something? Because I’ve gone at him three times now, and only once has he died without bugging out.

My point is – this guy shouldn’t even be enabled in his current state. CoE is already one of the longer dungeons, and now that the token rewards are all shunted to the end of the Dungeon, the Submarine route is a trap for the ignorant to waste a metric buttload of time in overall futility.

They’re supposed to stop spawning when you engage Nokk. But prior to the ‘patch’, people would just glitch out the first wave of Grenadiers to stop them from spawning entirely, easymoding the dungeon. It’s another one of many unintentional side effects.

You can work around it, though, it just requires a party split. Fight your way up to the golem miniboss as normal. Once it’s down, kill all but one grenadier. One person stays behind to kite/distract/etc this grenadier, everyone else goes to kill Nokk.

Some are more suited to Grenadier duty than others, though. As a tip: Mesmer players can literally afk against an entire wave of Grenadiers in nearly complete safety.

Drop a portal at the entrance to a supply depot, go in, grab supply, drop the other end, port right back to the entrance to save you the walk. You can do this when you’re busy building stuff on keep walls, too, to help speed it up a bit.

When in a besieged keep/tower and you have friends that just can’t make it through the front gate, have them come around to the side or back of the fortification and portal them up.

Get through the Eternal Battlegrounds puzzle and charge to portal people to the end. Or just do it for the good karma. Use the portal in general to cover your steps during hard parts of jumping puzzles.

Drop a portal on your group that’s hiding in a tower. Jump out, blink into the enemy zerg, drop the exit. Laugh as they all die because your allies are invisible to them.

Drop a portal on a besieged tower wall and keep it there; drop the exit when you or an ally gets pulled off.

I have one question about the portal though – what exactly is its range? I’ve noticed I can drop the portal’s second and and it just won’t connect to the first one. I figure it’s a range issue.

20 Dueling: Blink is your go-to “Get the frell out of Dodge” spell, Far-Reaching Manipulations makes it even better. Deceptive Evasion in general is a necessity for open-world 1v1 skirmishes given that one of your phantasms is immobile.

10 Chaos: 50% falling damage reduction makes traveling in WvW so much easier. You can freely jump down from walls, wail on any gate attackers while being buffed by Chaos Storm, blink to the portal, repeat ad nauseum. Can be easily swapped out for other stuff, though.

20 Inspiration: The ultimate in ‘no man left behind’ traits. Reflections dominate in WvW, and if you aren’t using them, you are really missing out on general team contribution.

20 Illusions: Most for phantasmal haste, but you could probably drop this line entirely without much worry.

There is little I can’t do with this build. Utterly relentless pursuer (except for shortbow thieves), solid dueler, A+ combat medic, decent wall-clearer/defender-puller. I can dive pretty deep into a zerg without dying.

So, I’m 4/6 in my Sorrow’s Embrace set. I finished five consecutive dungeon runs over the reset in what is probably one of the least enjoyable dungeons in the game. I console myself: hey, at the very least I’m going to get giant floating furnaces over my shoulder. I mean – it has the same item icon as the light armours, it’s in the same section of the list (nevermind that they’re mispriced and still not fixed), so it’ll work, right?

Apparently not.

Kinda holding out that there’ll be a retroactive fix, or that I can at least get my 300 tokens back.

Arah dungeon - what paths DO work?

Serious question. With the all-tokens-at-the-end change, I don’t want to waste my group’s time on a path that is unavoidably bugged.

We’ve only done the Forgotten route, but that was prior to the patch. I hear Seer is fairly bugged, what about Mursaat and the other one?
