Condition damage with bloodlust, food and might stacks is way out of control. I can burst people so fast using conditions that they don’t have time to remove them. Even if they remove them, the stacks are up and killing them before their condition removal is done cooling down.
Getting bleeds past 2k per tick, stack torment, poison and confusion by perplexity runes – just way too easy and powerful.
Anet need to get conditions under control.
They should have fixed the real issue. Condition damage. That’s how people are getting insta-gibbed – despite having super armor. It forces you into certain runes, sigils, traits and food. Spec and eat for condition control or die. Nerf condition damage so it can’t be exploited to the kind of bursts possible now.
Yeah purely WvW. For PvE it’s fine, although when solo it’s still too powerful.
In PvP it’s somewhat balanced by stat limitations and no food.
A focused condition build is just way beyond any other type of build in WvW. You talk about thieves bursting you to death fast with backstab.
Try a necromancer condition bursting you even faster ;-)
It needs a fix.
And funny about the PvE reference. It’s too obvious. People clearly want condition cheese builds for PvP and WvW and are using smoke and mirrors by using PvE as an excuse for it not being too powerful, when in fact it’s the stact limits on mobs limiting condition builds in PvE – not the power of the builds.

Anet nerf critical damage and even before that condition bursting was dominating. Please fix the way you can exploit the game to get insane condition bursts. It outclasses anything you can do with a power build.
all the money spent on ascended gear…. if i only knew this change was comming i wouldn’t have crafted entire set/bought new trinkets….:/
They said zerker will still be the top dps set, don’t flush the news down the toilet so soon. We should of all seen this day coming, crit dmg is insane and is the center of speed runs in pve, hard to make inventive and fresh content when all it requires is quick killing.
Doesn’t really matter. They just made condition damage 10% better compared to direct damage.
They should just have done the right thing instead.
Remove bloodlust and the like. It’s silly and tedious in WvW to get those stacks up on mobs before you go.
Then balance the amount of might stacks you can get.
The issue is that when you take things to the extreme and create a build that exploits the extremes of getting power – it’s unbalanced.
This nerf across the board for crit damage is stupid.
Maybe they should start by fixing the shatterer – give him a health pool of 1, so we don’t have to stand there for 10-14 minutes while drinking tea. That’s the issue.
Beserker may be good in PvE, but will they at the same time adress the bunker builds in WvW and the heavy condition spam – 25 might stacks, blood lust/corruption and food all adds up and is what’s causing the imbalance. Limit might stacks, make part of critical damage be armor penetration, so low toughness builds aren’t hit so hard. Because in WvW, only the most silly builds will penetrate bunker builds.
If they want to balance it purely for PvE by giving mobs crit resistance, then fine – as long as it doesn’t bleed over and makes WvW even more condition-bunker heavy.
Crit damage as armor penetration is nice. That would level the playing field between condition damage and direct damage.
However… it would make toughness much less desirable that it is, so perhaps armor penetration is percentage based, so it works best against very high toughness.
On the other hand it also removes the whole aspect of being fragile to gain power. If course that is already ruined with dire condition specs, where ou get both.
What they really need to balance is over the top might stacks, blood lust and condition damage.
Bunker builds don’t need to become more effective either.
I find thieves easy to kill on all classes except the ranger and necromancer. For the necromancer it’s down to my limited experience with the class, as I find they’re pretty tough.
Most of the imbalance is across the board though with 25 might stacks, blood lust and over the top condition damage, that needs a fix.
All I have to say is, condition damage in spvp and wvw is so over the top it sucks to play sometimes. And if they buff it by doing this, they will have only ripened the meta with maybe people picking different gear to do more conditions. No thank you and please god no. I’ll take skill with melee over passive conditions any day.
Yep. Condition damage is very much over the top and combined with the dire stats, that armor stat name really describes the state of this issue. Condition damage is very easy and forces the other player so much on the defensive, while you can just continue to apply pressure. Condition builds is what I use when on my laptop and have forgotten my mouse, so I just have to play with the pad and one hand.
They should balance conditions out, so it becomes much more viable to make conditions part of your build, but a 100% focus on condition damage won’t work.
The following is also very much part of the problem and should just be removed:
- On kill stacks giving bonus.
- 25 stacks of might
The bonus you get from those two alone and the ease of getting it is the biggest unbalance. 5 stacks of might, and any stacks beyond that just add duration. Remove the on kill stat bonus sigils. It’s a tiresome job to stack them before entering combat.
When that is said, the imbalance goes the other way too, because without the huge damage, bunker builds become even more powerful and at times it’s already a farce.
They need to think very hard about what they do. At the moment there is playability, because to some extent the extreme damage builds and condition builds can counter defensive builds. They need to create diminishing returns on toughness/vitality to match whatever they do to direct damage.
Then they need to rebalance conditions to fall better in line with those as well. If they do it by stack limit, creating diminishing return on condition damage or whatever – they need to take it into consideration as well or the game will certainly fall apart.
Turn off auto attack and take control yourself :-)
CTRL+RMB enables/disables auto attack for a weapon skill.
Just wondering since I saw a apothecary condition build. Could a power build benefit from taking cleric gear instead of soldiers gear seeing as it would work well with the shadow trait line and the healing/regen there?
Thanks for the post scab. As a fairly casual player who really like WvW, it’s awesome to get some insight into the finer tweaks. I have a few questions though, if you don’t mind.
1. You mention Wish’s HP-armor. What exactly does that mean?
2. You say that yours and Wish’s are different and wether you face a power spec or a condition spec, one or the other may be better. I understand the specs, but what exactly is the difference between your sets that makes you say one is better against condition specs for instance? And which spec is better against what?
3. Just an unrelated question. Is it impossible to create a viable balanced spec, where you have condition damage, power, crit chance and crit damage. I tried today and ended up with 1700 power, 47 crit chance, 57 crit damage and 1170 condition damage. I’m just pondering the dps. If the total of what you do with direct damage and condition damage can match up to a specialized spec.
Cheers for the post again :-)

That’s perfect balance. I like Anets approach to this. We can craft the ascended equipment, it takes a while to get the top tier equipment, but even a semi casual like me can eventually get ascended.
It doesn’t unbalance WvW too badly though.
I like how ascended is just slightly better than exotics – great design descision and in line with what I expected.
But as a semi casual I’ll still craft it and buy all the trinkets.
There is no flame bait in this thread and I find the term nothing more than a sad excuse for being rude.
I honestly just find many complaints here are just over the top and not very constructive.
I like the game and so does a lot of people. Compared to other MMOs it’s like the GW2 forums are much more tilted towards the negative. Perhaps it’s the free nature of the game, because people keep playing since there is no subscription and stick around to complain. I don’t know.
When I log in I see a great fun game, where hours can easily pass and the fact that it’s the first MMO since daoc that I stick with and keep playing for more than 2-3 months tells me that the game is at least awesome for me.
If you’ve played it for a very long time and don’t intend to stop playing it… you must think it’s good or something is just very wrong. I play games I like and find fun.
Yeah it’s easy to just hurl the fanboy sticker at someone who likes the game, like it validates all kinds of complaints that in my eyes are often faulty in logic and presented in such a childish and spiteful manner that it loses all creditibility.
But obviously a lot of people enjoy this game. I’ve listened to the last two episodes of the Chronicles of Tyria and they seem to enjoy it. Perhaps the issue is that when people spend so much time on a game they start to overlook the reasons they play in the first place and just notice the few hickups they encounter.
GW2 was hyped a lot, but from playing the beta I knew it would deliver exactly what I’d expect from all their hype. I was blown away in beta, at release and to this day my better half and I sometimes just pause and spend a few minutes agreeing how awesome the game is. They main reason we think it’s awesome, is that we have fun playing it. It’s not all kinds of different technical details that fills our minds although they work behind the scene to make it fun. We just enjoy it and as a casual player I don’t see a grind in this game at all. There is no level grind. It’s so easy to get to 80 and with the 350+ levels I have in total I know it doesn’t feel like a grind in any way. The gear is fairly easy to get – exotics are not hard even for us. Yes ascended will take us a while, but we already have a few pieces. But in any other MMO we wouldn’t even have considered trying. That just speaks volumes of how much this game hits the sweet spot for us.
I don’t expect or want everyone to agree with me. Compared to the quality og GW2 the negativity just seems out of scale compared to other mmos. But no I don’t want any big changes. Just more stuff with the same design philosophy.
Also I wanted to do my part to tip the scales :-)
My better half and I play on Blacktide. It’s not as active as I’d like though and to be quite honest I find it slightly annoying that it has been branded the unofficial server of a specific nation that isn’t english.
I’ve thought about Piken Square – the unofficial RP server as I hope people are somewhat civil and mature there, plus I assume you can immerse yourself more in the world there. It’s ranked high in WvW which is good since we recently started playing that a lot and really like it. But how is the actual population? How easy is it to get dungeons, fractals, world bosses, events etc?
We’re semi casual, but personally I’ve played since beta – we’re just a bit tired of how slow Blacktide is and how hard it can be to keep conversations english, so everyone can participate.
I’m sure you can call me a fanboy whatever that term covers these days. Yes I’m a fan of GW2. I just have fun in the game and whatever high pitched analysis with emphasis on the first four letters is written to dismiss my enjoyment of this game – I’ll continue to enjoy it. Played daoc on excalibur for years and overall I just enjoy GW2 more. :-)
Oh, and we’re playing on Blacktide (EU).
I haven’t posted much here, but have read a bit and it just seems wrong. I play this semi-casually (and my better half plays too). We get our daily most days, get a monthly most of the time, do some of the living world events, although we’ve never completed one. We do fractals, dungeons, world bosses and recently started WvW after we got some ascended gear (rest is exotics). We have a good grip of our builds with the help of some of the awesome people in the community and all their debates back and forth on what’s best. It’s helped us a lot build something we find fun and competitive. We really like WvW but find sPvP very dull. Have never ever crafted in a MMO – even this GW2 has made me enjoy – skills of 500, 500, 400, 400, 400, 400 on my toons says it all.
I have played most MMO’s since EQ and the last time I had this kind of fun was back in DAoC – although GW2 would win for me even if DAoC was technically up to date. This is the best MMO I have ever played and also the best game in general I have ever played. In daoc I got one toon to max level but it took me a while. Since then GW2 is the first game where I have reached max level before being bored silly. I have always wanted to enjoy MMO’s as the concept is amazing. In GW2 I have 2 lvl 80, two lvl 70+ and a few alts between 20 and 30. GW2 is the first MMO where I actually enjoy the game itself and not just play for the next little virtual reward until I can’t be kitten d.
GW2 has done everything right with their design. The flat level progression, limited item grind to have a viable toon – and all the rest.
I’ve seen the new MMO’s on the horizon and while the new sandbox philosophy is much to my liking i’ve seen so many promises and so poor deliveries so very often since EQ – but GW2 delivered and gave me what I wanted. I am certain when I try out some of those new mmo’s I’ll return to GW2 simply because I’ll want the new game to be just like it.
I haven’t had this kind of fun for such a span of time ever before in a video game(have played since beta).
Thank you Arena Net for this great game. We’ve had so much fun with it and even the oldest daughter (7,52 years old) messes around in queensdale once in a while just exploring and looking at stuff.
