Resident Zerg Idiot
Isle of Janthir
Great 5 hour campaign for SM. Took SF and IOJ to crack that nut.
update:
Anything can happen this week
Note: this was taken as IOJ was coming out of their prime time
Good tier is good.
it’s 2500 range on carts, but I feel your concern. Forcing people that are typically outmanned or usually fighting against the odds don’t need an additional reason to be on the ground (have to charge a treb over and over) countertrebbing needs to be in place.
Though I think they buffed ’em a bit toooooo much as many of the other AC threads are already stating….
“Added a buff to display time remaining before siege weapons are destroyed from inactivity.”
THANK YOU! That’s a start at least
If it’s just a skirmish out in the open, yeah uplevel is a good target, but I usually call targets differently.
If i’m confusion-heavy (even post-nerf it’s still solid) i call out thieves, rangers, fast attackers.
If i’m like…say…war heavy i’ll ask ’em to load up all crowd control and just pick a squishy. or the one that overcommitted and chased us when we all backpedalled a few feet to bait somebody out.
It’s a good starter target (green arrow) but it’s not always rally bait.
Why is it that every time we were trying to retake SM, there would be IoJ on the Walls, and DH in the Halls (rhyming kittens)
We took it anyways…but you 2 in secret meetings or something? o.O
Nah, we just kinda know we’re usually outmanned and that’s a bad idea to storm the castle solo. I generally like to hit the castle or try to keep the pressure on whoever has it, and one of the easiest ways to contribute to the chaos is to breach a gate, and just burn down the entire outer siege. Usually leads to the castle going down atfter that, even if we don’t take it.
We just don’t want you guys getting all cozy in there, that’s all xD xD xDDDDDDD
Frankly it’d be worth it, so probably.
no one expects the sorrow inquisition
BATTLEBOOOOOAT
hahahahahaaahahahahaha awesome
This was one of the most even matchups I’ve been in since this game came out, and all this smack talk about “durrhurr tiers matter” obviously isn’t in one of the tiers where 1 team simply dominates while the other has to PVDoor just to get a foothold before they completely run out of gas for the evening and log in to an entirely green map the next morning/evening. Sound familiar?
Fighting DH and DR has been a BLLEEEESSSSIIIIIINNNGGGGG compared to some of the lopsided bullkitten matchups i’ve seen in the past, and some of you are dealing with right now.
Tiers mean absolutely NOTHING right now. NO-THING. What matters is entertaining fights for everyone, while each server gets to have a place they can at call home, have some pride in, and branch out from there. Whatever flavor your “home” is, that’s all that really matters.
Nobody go up or down. The last two weeks or so have been some of the most fun for me, ever.
<3 DH, DR, AND IoJ. kitten the haters.
Makes me smile whenever I see members of “Hold On Guys I Got This” [Nope]
^This, also “Hold Still [f-f-s]” is pretty kitten hilarious
Gotta say this is one of the more balanced tiers I’ve been in.
Maybe that has a lot to do with “outmanned” not costing repairs anymoe (wooo suicide charge #184 heeeeeEEEERE WE GO) +1
Everyone has a strong timezone, but nobody is completely nonexistant—everyone’s able to hold onto at least most of their borderlands, or at least retake it rather quickly. +1
DH outnumber the other 2 servers, but it’s not soul-crushingly lopsided. Add in “outmanned” free repairs helping a lot with that +1
Keeps and stonemist on ALL sides regularly gets burned down if one team isn’t paying attention. +1
The blood feud between DR and IOJ is pretty entertaining. +1
No culling is making it easier to see a massive zerg coming and at least have enough time to go “oh kitten…fall back run run OOOOOH MY GOD RUN” +1
lol that was great.
That poor dude…“cool!”
Standing around at Butcher’s block (yeah EQ nostalgia ftw) listening to the banter about meat and watching the cubs argue is pretty nice.
What’s your fav
“Excuse me, do you have a moment?”
“Excuse me, do you have a moment?”
“Excuse me, do you have a moment?”
“Excuse me, do you have a moment?”
“Excuse me, do you have a moment?”
“Excuse me, do you have a moment?”
Hilaaaaaarious.
I don’t have access to the exact numbers at home, but I do know that the points do not change based on the number of people that receive credit.
UPDATE: JK everyone, I misread this post and have now contributed to the confusion. I thought the OP was asking about World XP. The points rewarded to the score for Dolyak kills are indeed variable depending on the number of players involved.
This still doesn’t answer the original question, how much are they worth. One thing Anet needs to do is provide hard #’s in certain situations…i.e. yak kills, siege despawn timers, etc.
Source: I kill yaks in my spare time and I pay very close attention to how many points are gained when I kill them.
Sorry but yaks get killed all the time on other BL’s too. It’s just not quantifiable or reliable enough for the OP. Frankly i’d love to hear from Anet to clarify certain things.
You’ve either just started playing or you’ve never played on a low pop / demoralized server. It’s one thing to get organized and take 1 camp and 1 tower. People do this. And after you’ve taken that tower, what do you do? You have to LEAVE to take something else, or to pressure another location. That camp you took? It was already gone before you got the door down. That tower? Gone as soon as you leave it. Don’t leave the tower? The dominant team shows up in such numbers that they can just autoattack the door down. Siege it up? All spent the last 20 times you took the tower this week. Send out squads out into the map to force the defenders to actually defend? Congrats, you just LEFT THE TOWER. Back to the beginning.
^^amen. Cept for the no-siege part. either way you’ll still get trebbed from a distance ‘cause the dominant team likely has, or will have, the #’s to hold the ground between you and the treb.
Breakouts are fine. Maybe needs a cooldown (free supply to a tower you already have just for turning it on again, lol), I’ll agree there.
Look I know it sounds really cool to have 3 whole borderlands, and eternal, but let’s face it—most servers on most tiers simply cannot handle that much stuff. I’m totally into advanced tactics on the “entire match” level but…even i’m willing to take the hit if it means we all have more fun overall.
When Anet did their beta test or whatever it was to determine wvw matchups…i’m pretty sure they didn’t have PvDoor or timezone dominance or multiple weeks of massively lopsided matches in the mix. Most likely the beta test/whatever was PACKED, basically like a friday night reset. I’m sure of it.
So ANYWAY…3 borderlands + eternal feels like it’s too much. I’m down for 2 maps, maybe 3, with a more eternal-ly balance to each one. Orbs are out of play for now so…borderlands don’t have that same panache they used to. Add in boring sentry duty to check for white swords EVERYWHERE and you have yourself “too much map.”
Anyone with me on this? Ideas?
the 25 swords has completely screwed whatever tier IOJ/DR/SBI are on. Was a fairly decent match for the last couple weeks, now just coming OUT of our oceanic primetime, sbi had just about everything.
“l2p” “suck it up” nope, it’s a game, and making it even less rewarding for defense than it already was, especially defense on something that nobody attacks…pfft yeah right. I’d rather play something else, and i’m a pretty kitten hardcore WvW’er
It’s all about incentive.
Organized militaries have people watching ammo dumps in the middle of the desert, doing nothing but watching dust and the sun/moon slowly move. This sucks, and is about as rewarding as watching a tower/keep in wvw. The incentive? The honor, the pay, the glory of having done something to help your country, blah blah. Even Mother Teresa got “feel good” points that made it worth doing it for her.
EVERYTHING is about incentive. “what is this worth to me and my guild and server?” This patch is going to devolve into zerg capture mania with no defense on almost every server within a week or two. Add in the latest event which makes mid/low tier population even WORSE…and bam. You can “l2p” and “suck it up” all you want, but this is a freakin’ game, and we do it for entertainment. Right now the ONLY incentive/entertainment for scouting white swords is the thanks of your peers. Even that’s fleeting sometimes.
Reward scouting, reward inactive defense (somehow, figure it out!) reward support, or the zerg trains WILL continue.
Someone on these forums said it best. We’ll cry our hearts out and probably keep playing anyway as much as we like/don’t like the current state of wvw, and the only ones that will really be affected are the fair-weather pvp’ers which will make the maps seem just that much more lonely, until we quit altogether too.
edit somewhere between 5-15 woulda been a great #, but yeah only t1 servers would benefit from a 25+
(edited by GavinGoodrich.1382)
This matchup is way closer to even than it was with Ehmry Bay (EBay). Having a lot more fun this week. Still slightly lopsided on SBI’s side, but tbh pound for pound they hit a little harder than DR. But DR’s still formidable enough that you can’t just ignore them or they’ll roll your face. So a good 3-way overall.
edit ^mainly referring to the siege placement difference with SBI/DR. When DR does more of the “sweet spots” on a more regular basis they’ll be just as tough.
Thanks everybody for the epic 3-way brawl for stonemist. That was just plain awesome and fun no matter who took it (IoJ) and we probably threw a crack in the 4th wall with all the lag we made (everyone from every server was piled into the castle).
Good times, good times.
Nobody else thought the forest of siege was hilarious? I laughed…looked down at my plate, then looked back up and saw it and almost spit potatoes…at the forest.
nomnom….nomnomnomnomnomnom
stupid 15 character minimum
Yeah what’s up?
1: It’s extremely rewarding, in terms of tangible stuff for each player.
2: It’s extremely smart to strip down upgrades in off-peak times, also in areas where siege has “despawned” and thus makes them pay for “overextending” and not wanting to defend every piece of land they own. So when the match evens out in various peak times, you’re in a better position to play.
3: It’s extremely wise to play the “long” game, as it benefits you and your team more throughout the week.
4: It’s wise to punish the other teams for overextending and not being willing to babysit towers/keeps when you don’t have 24/7 coverage. If teams want to overextend, they have to be willing to pay the price of getting a giant sucker punch in the nuts if the other teams want to.
5. It’s wise to consolidate what people you have in one area when you’d be outnumbered and outgunned everywhere else all spread out. And hey, why not enjoy sucker-punching another team and having fun as a server, while you’re at it?
SoS are willing to hold onto the castle in EB at all costs, so SoR and IoJ are more than willing to make ‘em pay for it in the “long game.” Wildcreek and surrounding haven’t had much for upgrades the last few days, though SoS typically do hold onto stonemist long enough to rally, and get to keep the strategic advantage later on.
The epic give and take goes on.
To at LEAST an hour, maybe more?
Many many reasons.
Thank you!
What’s really interesting about this matchup is that each server has it’s own peak time. Not just one, but three! For IoJ our strongest is our oceanic/korean/etc so for us late-night NA players it becomes a game of “dusk till dawn” or “survive the night” etc etc. It’s real exciting, less of a “well soon as we go to bed this is all gone” and more of a "we just need to survive UNTIL bed then our cleanup crew can log in. And each server has their own version of this, so it’s a real thrill all the time now.

This is one of the best matches I’ve had. It’s Thursday and people are still fighting tooth and nail all over!
Enjoying the orbs being gone. Will be glad when it’s back and less hack-able, but for now, it’s making the matches a lot more even and exciting!
Ok I don’t have any good ideas as most of my good ideas wile realistic would just be too OP for a games balance. So I give you my joke idea instead.
A giant wooden dolyak. Yep… thats right Because they always let dolyaks in.
YES!
Pact-like Tank? Maybe some form of siege repair suit like the dredge mining suits?
Some form of augmented supply runner we can use ourselves + the yaks? Like the dredge APC (player driven, slow as hell, tougher than yaks)?
Old midevil tactics for siege included digging under the walls of a fortress, and setting fire to the wooden girders/posts that helped hold the stone part of the wall up, making it collapse. Dredge version of this would be COOL!
The major issue is not breaking the already well-balanced siege that already exists, while making a worthwhile addition.
Thoughts?
The kid running around LA going “sweeeeeeeets” was mah fav. Tassi had some good lines, and naturally the MK had a ton of good ones. Classic villan hilarity.
GJ on the voiceovers, guys~!
^regarding the above post…yeah we got beaten badly on the first day. Our strategy involved playing the other two teams off each other. We went with a conservative approach into a bulls-charging single team and got our faces melted. Arguments began between guilds and even within guilds, and morale generally sucked. Add in the “wtf why are we sucking so bad we’re better than this” and it nails the coffin even further shut. Many of us are glad Halloween is almost over and look forward to gettin’ back into it
SoS won’t be able to repeat the same strategy with two good teams (us and SoR) so they’ll either repeat the same thing and nobody will hold anything for longer than 10 minutes, or they’ll rein it it and we’ll have a good 3-way this weekend. Beyond that is anyone’s guess—given guild server swaps are so common.
The only thing I pray for, is IoJ doesn’t get tunnel-vision on stonemist this weekend…
GJ anet. Had a blast on just about every event. Mini-games rocked! Villagers ftw!
WvW tanked but hey, it’s only 1 week. Glad I got in on this while it was here!
Yes please. In favor of 48/72 hour matches
Ok we got a lot of threads about the random resets. Probably better if we just all put up a more organized approach.
Simply type briefly: your protest of random resets with no warning and no ability to plan around it.
Thank you.
Throw a Yes or No behind this topic if you want this. Seems silly that you can recap a camp before the supervisor even dies and it goes from 10 to 100 right away. It’d give more incentive for holding stuff and less incentive to be pure offense, just flipping camps.
It’d make resupply during siege much more important, too. No more “ok just re-flip the camp, grab some of the supply, repair with it.”
Not gonna lie…SoS (mainly PRX’s massive 50+ pure-offense roaming team) beat the living kitten out of us on their home map. Beat us to the point where we started pointing the finger at ourselves, yelling at other commanders, guilds, guildmates, etc.
Hero took a step back and started doing stuff as a guild to make sure we didn’t turn on each other xD
Face it, we got beat with a superior opening strategy from a guild that was a lot more coordinated than our alliance was. And I mean we were coordinated, but it shattered when we were facing an aggressive 50+ zerg and everything on the map was paper.
Love to make a comeback at this point, but given the aoe stealth + rendering issues, I just don’t care enough.
QQ aside, grats to SBI for a well-organized comeback
the other team can also counter that, if they know when it’s gonna happen. Point being, people are losing tons of their own money on siege that just gets wiped out whenever Anet feels like doing it without any advanced notice.
Either keep the gear we placed post-reset, or give us more notice. I also feel dirty when we manage to hold on to a keep when we shoulda lost it, but the reset hits mid-siege…ugh. They just don’t make water hot enough to clean that off…
^ never even thought of that.
Yeah that’s pretty bad.
Seriously, giving us enough time to barely type “oh you got to be kidding me” then seeing all our siege reset instantly, or being in the middle of a multi-hour siege and almost being done and suddenly—boom.
We need more advanced warning. If there’s normally scheduled patches, please let us know what times they are, or please point me to where they’re posted. Thanks.

[edit]big snip
If too many people do this it’ll artificially affect the scores which then breaks the GLICKO system and undoes the reason we had daily match ups at launch.
The GLICKO system is already being broken by guild mass transfers.
Sorry, but you can’t expect me to wait for Anet to fix a system when we’re in this to have fun. Their only response I’ve seen so far is “suck it up” regarding nightcaps. Thus, the users take matters into their own hands to have a better gaming experience.
Had a good time with ET today. This kinda happened at the same time the CD euro-time push was getting into full-gear (nice push btw). I’m on IoJ, and just in the spirit of good fights, I hopped onto ET’s server to help run a push on their home turf. We were aggressive (and lucky) enough to get all the keeps flipped and enough upgrades started on the garrison in time that doors were able to finish before the massive bulk of IoJ got on. Sil we might have gone toe-to-toe, but I ain’t sure. Hope we did.
IoJ did a good job keeping our yaks dead from both directions (cripes) but eventually we started raiding down south to keep ’em off our backs (NJ cross, Zev, and Es, u know who you are). We pushed a little too hard and retook bay, only to lose it 15 mins later. We kinda overexteded with sieging hills at the same time, with no upgrades. But epic fun was had. And it made the week more interesting for everybody involved!
Garrison’s almost fully upgraded before I go to class. /crosses fingers…
In other words…if you don’t have much left to fight, join the other teams and enjoy fighting each other! It’s FUN, remember? Go have FUN.
edit oh, and you get to taunt your guildmates! Which is also fun.
CD either had a scheduled event or something clicked (i’m thinking scheduled) ‘cause they just roared through all the keeps and got the orb on their home map. They’re back to +90 with us.
Koreans have arrived [ND]! They’re spunky and like to raid. We’re into the shallow-end of the qeue now. Should be an interesting day. I’m kinda half-rooting for CD mainly ‘cause it’s simply more fun this way \o/
Amazing, amazing weekend. IoJ is starting to pull away from the pack around 11am Pacific, though. TBH I perfer the epic’ly close 3’ways, or even losing. So used to getting steamrolled due to not enough people
Confirming this is my favorite kind of way to play. Mainly ’cause you can manipulate enemy players into playing the game your way.
Aside from a scoreboard—players need more incentive to actually hold things. The current incentives are decent. But they pale in comparison to the flip-counterflip strategy while ambushing enemies attempting to back-cap haphazardly.
So yeah, being very sick of non-rendering armies 3-way’ing each other, all our tab keys getting mashed into oblivion, I take a ninja team of 2-6 groups (starts small, ends up big later) to Stormbluff Isle’s battlegrounds. We had nothing at the time, and the map was generally on low-alert.
Capping a few camps, and having done golem ninja shenanagins on a previous map—we say screw it, and very carefully use 1 golem and a ram to take the bay without creating "battles’ for more than a few seconds (killing guards by accident en-masse. Woops). Briar went down without a hitch, too.
So after about 5 minutes of bringin yaks in, the “we have a golem, let’s ninja something else quietly” itch keeps needing a scratch. This is apparently a big issue when you use ‘em successfully, and still have them—*the urge to use them again is very high. * Plus you probably have someone sitting in it, rearin’ to go.
So what often happens is what I fell victim too: kitten it, make more golems, we’ll sneak in as much as we can and blitz in the rest of the way.
The temptation? Garrison was un-upgraded, with an orb in it. Full supply with which to pillage and stall an advance with while moving the orb to the bay. But…our keep was in the same boat.
Anyway, 3 golems, 25 people, and an attempt at sneaking through the lake to the water gate later…we push, HARD, and their zerg breaks and runs to help at the bay.
Long story short, it was close, but we died at the garrison. One guy ninja’d the orb and ran back, and nobody knew about it till it was in the bay’s altar. So we were like “woohoo, get ready for angry dudes to come down our throat!”
What resulted was rather typical, and doesn’t really need detail—we got outnumbered on an upgraded keep, and eventually lost it.
The orb was highly bugged at this point. SBI SHOULD have regained ownership of the orb, but for some reason IoJ has it, SBI is unable to take the bugged orb, and I sent a bug report on it /shrug
TL;DR of this story—if you have golems ready to blitz stuff—make sure you can hold what you take beyond that. The urge to stay on offense with golems still alive is often too great. RESIST DA TEMPTATION! THE POWER OF CHRIPES COMPELLS YOU!
