Zhyx you realize i was trying to command without the commander book for 2/3 of the time I’ve been playing so far? “Buying” my way into loyalty was never the issue. The vast majority of players’ response to me getting the book was “awesome, it’s about freakin’ time! How the hell were you doing it without it?”

Literally every post I’ve seen from you is full of double-talk or take-backs. You’re bitter about a large population guild leaving, we get it. But don’t throw out insults then pretend they aren’t. It makes you look two-faced.

Put yourself in mine or Sil’s shoes. As a game we paid for, do you WANT to keep seeing your hard work flipped upside down literally 1 hour after you and your friends you helped earn it with go to sleep? Do you WANT to keep waking up to…u know what…everyone’s heard the same nightcap cry story…nevermind.

Long and the short of it is we’re burned out. Everyone at the leadership level of ANV is very, very, very tired. In the end it IS a game, and we’ll keep fighting, in a place where what you, me, and everyone else has done for our server can actually have a longer impact than 1 hour.

Any other Anvil Rock’ians are welcome to come with. In the end the server is who you spend your time having fun with. Most of them are coming to IoJ so we hope to see you there. If not, best of luck on anvil.

went to sleep with a fully-fortified keep and an orb on darkhaven’s map, many of us needing sleep also.

Woke up to 0 orbs, no keeps and dominant map being fully fortified.

Yet another timezone warfare story /shrug We did great while we were all focusing the limited #‘s of dedicated wvw’ers on one map, though. ninja’d the orb, held our ground again and again. No complaints here.

Sorry but the “holier than thou” attitude when both parties are guilty of branching off and hitting Anvil/Borlis respectively won’t get you anywhere.

Y’all hit us shortly after, at the briar tower. I’m 100% sure that was pure retaliation and just being mad. Either way, both servers have groups that do their own thing, regardless. Blaming the whole server for 1-2 group’s actions, when one server is just as guilty as the other, is self-centered and arrogant.

Anvil Rock needs you!

Yep. Lots of open space. We barely reach a qeue in peak times, and that’s typically on one map. Post-reset it’s full all around, but who isn’t?

Anyway, as long as the leaders that would come to anvil aren’t egotistical kitten nozzles that think the world revolves around “their” strategy, we’d love to have ya and work with ya!

Regarding adrenaline, the rage signet combined with the DPS bonus trait in strength (more adrenaline more damage) does create a nice combination of benefits. I.E. Leave adrenaline at full for bigger heals, and get more damage while you’re at it.

Rage signet’s real handy in building up level 3 adrenaline for the f1 fire aoe, which is also a nice chain-starter, lethal in sieges for WvW

Warrior is mainly a “get in, hold ’em down, take big hits while doing and live” while other classes that are more dps-focused and more squishy can take down the HP bar for ya.

I also highly reccomend the sword/warhorn combo for pvp, ESPECIALLY WvW. Being able to break the snares/immobs/etc for EVERYBODY around you AND give swiftness, plus moar endurance, makes fading in and out of the fight very easy with a war. Sword can get you in, horn + traits can get you out at least 2/3 of the time.

Also having high HP and safe fall makes for hilarity when you have the commander book and you take everyone off a steep cliff, then turn around and start reviving everyone…

Oh and regarding the above. What often happens is people “blow their load” right at the get-go, and mesmers seem to be all about countering said “blow”. Wars don’t die instantly, and are good at controlling enemy movement. Maybe let them blow their “load” first and then go in?

Honestly Anvil Rock (lol not ANV i mean the server, lol) will become a very nice nest for many other guilds that decide to change servers looking for more coordination to join. Pimpnizzle/Shugknight and I butt heads but we get along, work together, and so far I’ve enjoyed working with jut about every other dude(ette) with a commander tag on the map. Was bummed I couldn’t make the stonemist battle.

Overall, seeing a lot of improvement. Lots of high morale when we get togther and do kitten, given we all realize the whole night-capping thing is out of most of our control, so we have fun where we can, as a server, havin’ good times and good fights.

Thinking about switching servers? /motions this way…

Anvil rock is typically qeueless on almost every map unless it’s peak-time in the evening, or on reset day.

And I right-clicked qeueless for spellcheck and got clueless. Man…even our computers hate us.

We got stopped at the edge of the lake, the orb dropped but we couldn’t see anyone with the orb. It also wasn’t on the map. So we thought it bugged out and we headed north to prepare for the reset. Totally didn’t realize that Borlis Pass had the orb, or they would have never gotten that close to taking the bay.

I feel your pain. It’s just as bad here. We usually have to frantically ask WHO GOT THE ORB when it drops. It needs some serious UI overhaul for something so critical to over 100 players across several teams during the most critical times…and they can’t even find it.

Part 2:

Borlis and NSP are playing cat and mouse with the orb in the LAKE, and finally borlis catches it. But they have no keep to place it on! The timer’s at about…9-10 minutes left.

I have two choices: Dig in at the bay, or prepare for the imminent blitzes on the orb from BOTH teams. This is anvil’s map, and we have the garrison, so I call for us to get north.

AMAZINGLY, borlis manages to hold onto the orb the ENTIRE time on the field. NSP disengages to prep for a northern reset blitz, and anvil prepares on defense. BORLIS, on the other hand, says “hey, un-upgraded keep and barely anybody in. And we have an orb for it. GO GO GO RETAKE THE BAY!”

To which I go “holy christ” and send EVERY available body except for 1-2 groups to the bay purely to stall ‘em before the reset. We’re at about 7-minutes left now, they clearly have enough time and are very quick about dropping rams.

What follows is one of the most desperate stalling rushes I’ve ever seen. Scraping together 1 arrow cart at the south gate didn’t do anything, so I literally call for every available body to get INTO the circle and run the timer down. By the time they get through the inner gate, we’re talking 90 SECONDS LEFT. If they can’t capture and put the orb on, we get it back, up north! We have 10…15 people tops. They have about 30+ It’s a suicide mission.

60 seconds….they come piling in…bout 5-10 of us left hiding behind columns trying to stay in the circle when possible.

40 seconds…bout 5 left…I start taking hits and begin running around like a moron.

30 seconds…just a few left, but SO CLOSE!

20….

10…still alive but outside the circle. they’re capturing!

at SIX SECONDS LEFT they captured. However, the orb wasn’t placed on the altar in time so anvil managed to suicide hold long enough for the reset!

What followed was a series of successful ambushes north of the citadel that failed due to a bugged orb typically dissapearing after 1 from their team and 1 from our team dying with it. After that I had to go. But that was the most exciting 3-way I’ve ever had, and props to NSP and Borlis for bringing the pain!

Regarding teaming up on NSP—I’ve always focused on purely NSP…even pushing into NSP-controlled borlis territory mainly to send a message that yes, NSP overextended. they can’t hold all of that with you pushing hard. But when Borlis regains a foothold we get way too much double-team pressure, so i’d need to see a much more commited thing from Borlis to push NSP harder before I leave my flanks open

Thanks for the kind words. It was one of the most interesting sieges and by far the most entertaining 3-way I’ve seen yet. That keep flipped every 5-10 mins for about 30 minutes. Every team held it for a while.

Beware, epic long battlereport inc…

AR general perspective: One of our guys begins a ram siege on northwest bay gate. Didn’t work given it was reinforced and backup came soon. Fights were in the 30s vs. 20s but all progress on the gate stopped.

We backed up, put trebs down, defended those. Added more defensive siege. It worked, given we were so close to our camp. We rotated groups (sorta) for guard duty—attacks on camp were repelled. We even avoided the wurm event 90% of the time!

Mid-siege, Here comes Borlis from behind (NSP was holding keep at the time). Supplies cut off, reinforcements cut off, borlis “bores” in hard from the south, flipping the keep…

…which is now being pummelled with no upgrades by our treb team up north. Nice timing!!

We plowed in…got the plateau to the north. More trebs n’ defense. Multiple attacks repelled. We took down the wall but…

…well crap, we couldn’t get past the deathtrap borlis laid for us. To make matters worse, shiverpeak got back in, and they’re busy duking it out repeatedly, but anvil, as secure as our siege is, can’t plow directly into 2 teams either! Anvil starts adjusting trebs to clear siege. Yay, it works. Fortunately, no countertreb attempts this time (no supply, really.) Btw borlis now has the keep and the orb. But eventually they break with NSP hitting them from the south, putting them in the SAME position borlis just put ’em in 10 minutes ago. All teams are in the 40+ range for people now. The rest of the map is silent. EVERYONE wants in on this brawl!

NSP pushes in, but can’t fully capture, form the south. So somebody BREAKS THE ALTAR and runs with the orb! All the way to the LAKE! Massive 3-way panic ensues! I send some of my guys to cut ‘em off, but saw borlis split their people (or the zerg just broke off on it’s own to chase) and I decide to take the keep instead, breaking anvil off. We just BARELY got it, and start mopping up.

Warriors really shine in the “Get ahold of something, and REALLY hold on to it, and take a beating while doing it, while your team tears it down,” role. They make fantastic target callers in groups, and great anchors at the front of a fight. Most setups include 3-4 forms of CC, and also include self-defense, too. Warhorn warriors are fantastic at getting in and out of entire zergs when you think they’ll just get swallowed up. Safe fall trait gets put to a lot of use in WvW too. Lotta bellyfloppin.
Banners are also useful, particularly during offensive siege in a tight area.

Sword-warhorn: Sword gets you in, Warhorn gets you out

TBH there’s so many weapon combos with a war it’s generally up to preference, both 1 and 2 handed, but it’ll be a cold day in hell before i drop the warhorn in WvW.

We give comparably crap DPS compared to the squishier dps classes like ele/ranger/thief. Good pros and cons for wvw with it.

Rifle vs. Longbow—rifle is great for field work/Crowd control. Pairs nicely with the sword/warhorn combo for getting in quick as well. Longbow is fantastic for siege, particularly the combo field for burning with F1. Especially on offense. “/say AOE This wall, please!” followed by the F1 longbow at full adrenaline and an entire army following up….mmm…combos.

Yeah it really sucks that 1-2 kittens ruined it for all 3 servers combined. We were enjoying the first night so much—so much of our strategy revolved around two teams instead of one, which made it thrilling most of the time. Then the hacks happened, and more or less ruined the flavor of the entire night. Early in the morning sunday we were looking at the shiverpeaks map and zero of the altars showed an orb, yet they held all 3. The hits just keep on coming, don’t they?

Props to the shiverpeak peoples that don’t logout/hack/etc/blah blah. Still very entertaining days ahead…even if the scoreboard is kinda screwed early on. We still have 5 days, and the way Anvil’s been improving overall, I have a lot of faith in us doing well without the orbs.

^quite frankly, we’ve gotten used to fighting as underdogs, so we’ve gotten pretty freakin’ ferocious in September.

Really happy with how Fraggle rock is coming together. We’re learning—not as quickly as the hardcore servers, but we’re definitely learning all kinds of cool tactics and how to counter human psychology, blah blah blah.

Not sure if it was a mesmer or a wall hack (prooobably a mesmer) but good sneak attack on our bay keep yesterday around mid-day US time. I couldn’t peel enough of the zerg off our counterattack of the briar to get to the bay in time. Very well-timed.

All in all it was a lot of fun during this week’s portion of the 1-week thingy. Lots of back-and-forth, came out ahead of both servers for a few hours at a time in points-per-tic, being able to coordinate the TFO train with defensive stuff (i.e. “U wanna come kill these guys from behind, sieging on ____ borderlands? K tnx”), and generally getting us all on the same page.

MVP leaving was the best thing to ever happen to us xD

So pumped about this week’s matchup, whatever happens.

Questions about some of the bugs:

So far I’ve found:

Orb resetting AT the garrison altar mid-siege, before the gates are breached, thus the Lord is invuln. and you can’t flip the garrison before the zerg arrives. Orb then resets at north altar anyway like normal.

Orb disappearing from map and resetting up north after being grabbed at the Bay keep and said player holding it was reported to have jumped in the water. Orb randomly disappearing from the map entirely, despite a player actually confirming they have it.

Alleged “Fly hacking” where an orb left the hills keep, flew straight to garrison keep for another team, and rested there for the evening after being defended for 5 hours straight.

Is there any clarification on the “4 hour reset” for orbs going back up to the altar, please?

Lord not losing invulnerable buff “determined.” at all, and need clarification on exactly what causes the buff to go away, please.

“Broken Altar” not resetting (i.e. At the garrison) and need clarification on what causes it to be “fixed” besides a server reset. Hell…what causes it to “break” anyway?

Lord being invulnerable for extended periods of time (several hours) at defensive garrison allowing us to hold it with impunity (obviously lame).

Any confirmed explanations to this would be awesooooome. Thanks.

All the above are great ideas. Thanks for warning me not to buy the book yet. You can still take charge in either team or map chat…the commander icon is only going to help you so much. We have 1-2 people that have the commander icon on Anvil Rock, and it’s rare that anyone takes them seriously.

It’s nice when people volunteer to chip in to buy the book…but for now just rely on your natural (or unnatural) human ability to lead people, rather than a silly item.
