Next weapon for future Ele specialazition?

I’d love to see a main-hand torch applying heat effects to all elements (air=plasma, earth=lava, water=steam). It could be a nice hybrid power/condi with 900 range focusing on splatter damage rather than aoe.

Solo spec for PvE in HoT?

I got tired of farming with zerker and the constant tension in HoT maps, i tried a classic Dire/undead runes set and it’s SMOOTH. I’ve been using condi ele since then in HoT maps and i’m not going back to zerker, i haven’t died since then and i faceroll everything braindead style.

I use S/D and signets, traits from fire/earth/tempest you just have to burst your signets and skills 2 – 4, fill the cooldowns with autoattacks or switch to earth for bleedings, both methods work fine, keep earth 2 up for extra toughness.

edit: I forgot i ended up changing the undead runes for the traperx2/nighrmarex4 combo, but the damage was pretty nice in both cases.

Power necro weapon problems

Ok, i get a better picture now. I don’t use shroud that much, i have to get used to enter more often, that could be the reason i don’t find warhorn useful since i don’t pay attention to life force generation.

I really don’t want to use greatsword so i’ll stick to axe/focus since i’ve been testing staff and it looks like a weaker version of shroud (open world wise) i don’t use power in pvp. Thanks for the insight.

Power necro weapon problems

I suddenly felt like leveling a necro (a class that bored me to death) after one year playing elementalis,t and i’m enjoying the power build. I like the raw damage and speed of dagger, but i don’t know what to do with its off hand and the second set of weapons.

I’m currently using dagger/warhorn and axe/focus, everyone told me warhorn is a must-have with dagger but i find it useless, i use blood magic and i don’t need the swiftness and the other options are even worst. As for the second set focus 4 with axe 2 is all i use, it’s good but only affects one target and it feels clunky and slow.

Should i keep warhorn for the daze? Should i change axe/focus for staff?… I want to optimize my damage without using Reaper, but dagger and greatsword seem to be the only decent power weapons /sigh

Thanks.

Greatsword viable on a Ranger?

When i’m just going around doing events i use a full cleric build staff/GS (GS is berserkr). The main focus is tanking and healing, but it has pretty good power and perma fury just pressing F2 (red moa).

I decided to rely on spirits for the huge passive healing of water spirit + spirit of nature, that, my pet and my toughness allow me to faceroll big enemies alone. You can instantly ressurrect groups of dead npc’s to use them as bait with spirit of nature, and if for some reason you’re in trouble just switch to staff/celestial avatar for a few seconds.

If you’re not soloing you can focus more on staff and tanking or just faceroll, depending on the event.

P.S. I use runes of the citadel cause i want to make sure i always have fury without paying attention. If you’re not as lazy as i am you can use anything else.

maybe have a skill or shot that pierces other classes reflects (although this should require a lot of initiative).

For what purpose do you want to go through reflection in open world? If you’re aiming for PvP forget it, the only thing worthy of going through reflection is p/p 3 and that would never happen. I’m not against having fun with p/p if you like it, but it’s the cheapest and easiest burst for pvp and even a monkey could kill with it. That’s why it must have a solid counter (reflection).

If you’re talking about adding a new skill, well, dreaming is free.

Is P/P viable?

in Thief

Ghataka.1604

P/P is viable but forget about it if there’s a tank ele in the other team, i speak from experience, i can get 20 seconds straight of reflect with my ele (party members included) and P/P thieves tend to go crazy with the spam and usually they die without noticing.

PvE - Which is the best weapon set?

Staff feels very clunky in open world, specially if you have been using other weapons before, but with some practice (in terms of predicting the IA of the enemies) it becomes the best option, i used staff. Dagger main-hand is other option but in high level maps you’ll probably feel uncomfortable going melee with everything while using berserkr gear.

As for Maguuma completion and farming, i use full dire gear (fire/earth/tempest) with scepter/dagger and it’s a breeze. You can solo challenges like a necro and run into huge mobs without dying, the burning/bleeding tic combination is awesome and you have a lot of damage reduction while blinding burning foes.

[SPvP] Is Ele too dependent on teammates?

in Elementalist

Posted by: Ghataka.1604

Ghataka.1604

Not sure, if i’d try to kill yes, i’d be dependent since i’m running magi but with my 5 sources of reflect, the stability and the crazy heals i feel like in many situations my team is dependant on me, even if they don’t know at the moment.

As for the full offensive ele the only option right now is a well organized team or really bad opponents. So in general, yes, the class feels dependent, i’m expecting some major scepter rework, dreaming is free.

Need opinions/ help on build

For HoT events, world bosses, farming and basically getting kitten to salvage i’m using this.

It’s hypertanky and perfect for open world mass-support while getting enough power to contribute to the DPS and it has perma-swiftness.

Maybe it’s too tanky for that kind of content but it’s just a personal preference since it doesn’t matter that much. You can change the runes/sigils/jewells and wall of reflection if you want to be more offensive. (at the contrary if you want to be more tanky just get Force of Will for almost 26k health and more healing, and use Valor for more toughness and shield usage)

Help with this build?

I personally use this:

http://gw2skills.net/editor/?vlQQNAsemnvN2gS6JvQRVlbosryPUYW5IKYs8EllNFyegHchtB4APgNMlZNA-ThSBQBA4EBgC9EXRp3GOEA3Q9nMqMYRKBfwDEgf7PMhjAApAyToF-e

17k HP felt about right for me, though one can easily get by with less. Air+Force means easy damage from lightning strikes with Sword/Shield, and Blood Sigil on Staff adds a pinch of extra sustain on top of Assassin’s Annihilation and its own block/heal/AA..

Runes are a personal preference – Strength/Rage also work really well if you want more Might/more gain from your Fury. You can always slot in Swift Termination if you’re cleaving through trash and dont need the extra siphoning or Radiant Revival in places where you feel your allies will struggle avoiding getting downed.

Thanks for the build, i’ll do some modifications. One thing about the staff, the only skills i find useful are 5 and 3, and i always struggle when i feel the need for range. Am i supposed to keep 5 on cooldown and then spam autoattack for the sigil and orbs? I think i don’t understand the role for the staff.

I’m about to hit 80 with my rev and i want to use it for maguuma stuff (solo and with friends), i don’t have any experience with healing power or building a rev so i want to know if this is a waste

I tried to fit some survivality and support while trying to keep the damage, but i’m new with this hybrid gearing/build and i think it’s probably not optimized correctly, i’ll take any opinions, thanks.

Better PvP/PvE builds for Ele?

in Elementalist

Posted by: Ghataka.1604

Ghataka.1604

Just made an Ele, absolutely loving it, was wondering what’s considering the meta builds right now so I can get used to how it should be played before changing it up for my own playstyle.

In GW2 builds are relatively simple, there isn’t much to mess with, just the prefixes in gear, runes and infusions (low impact in the versatility of the build) and sigils.

The strong point here are the traits, and with a little knowledge of the mechanics of the game you can spot the synergy within your traits just by reading them and then create a combination that goes well with what you want to do.

What i mean with this is , if you have the basic knowledge about the game mechanics and you try to do your own build (pvp for example) you will probably end up doing a similar (or very similar if not the same) build to one that’s already in the meta.

There aren’t stat points to distribute, or limited skill points or complicated gear in this game, it’s more manual skill based, the builds themselves don’t hold that much power. So i don’t want to throw the cliche, but make your own build even if you look at the meta ones for some guidance, but don’t copy them, it’s not needed at all.

Late game solo condition build?

I already am 80 and at the end i went full rabid with all the upgrades oriented to condition damage. I find it pretty tanky and enemies die fast so i was worried about nothing.

I followed your advices with the pistol but with large groups of monsters i find the torch pretty useful. Throwing phantasmal mages and spamming winds of chaos decimates the entire group in a few seconds, i use the pistol for random encounters and big monsters.

I’m still unlocking the wells but i find the playstyle way more entertaining than swords, so i’m satisfied, thanks.

To be absolutely honest? I think taking a Mesmer condition build in HoT maps is shooting yourself in the foot. I mean, you can make it work, but it’s not really what the build specialises in. A Mesmer condi build deals probably the best DPS that a Mesmer can deal, but it has no burst, takes a long time to ramp up, and is completely single-target. In open world, where burst and AoE are so useful, it suffers.

If you really enjoy the playstyle, then I say go for it. Anything works in open world PvE. That said, my educated guess is that you will have a much easier time with a Greatsword / Sword+Focus/Shield/Sword power build, or with another class altogether.

Having said that, if you do go for it, I strongly suggest you take a pistol off-hand and the Duelist’s Discipline trait in Dueling, along with some crit chance in your build. This is not up for debate – confusion and torment are terrible conditions to deal in open world, because, as the guy above said, mobs are either standing still and attacking or moving and not attacking. They also don’t move or attack all that much to begin with. This greatly reduces the effective damage of confusion and torment. Pistol phantasms, on the other hand, can reach pretty great bleed stacks, and you can keep their uptime high thanks to Chronophantasma, so they’re definitely the way to go.

Yeah i know mesmer conditions are oriented to pvp but i don’t think i have any other options besides pure damage swords or shield variation. I know i won’t last long if i have to keep the swords playstyle, the condition build is the only one where i don’t see myself getting bored, since i really like it.

I’ll stick with pistol and try what you said, thanks for the advice.

Late game solo condition build?

Hi, my mesmer is level 56 right now and i’ve been leveling since the start with greatsword and Sword/pistol, except from 30 to 40 when i used scepter/pistol and staff. I want to know if the condition build (with a mix of exotic rabid/dire) is viable for soloing heart of thorns content, i’ve heard enemies are really tough there.

I’m starting to get bored of the greatsword and sword playstyle and i don’t even like it that much visually, but i enjoyed the condition build back then when i was 30, even with no decent traits unlocked.

Maybe i’m just overreacting from what people have told me and the content isn’t that tough, but if i have to go with berserkr/soldier and swords to survive soloing i think i’ll drop my mesmer and pick another class. I just want a clear idea so i can pick my level 80 gear in a couple of days.

Thanks in advance!
