If the silent majority cared enough they would voice their opinion. They don’t and thus if the name was changed they would not be affected.
Ah yes, apathy is the reason things are the way they are.
Have you considered the replacement name could be worse for the silent majority? They would certainly be affected by a name change, regardless of if they vocalize.
Hey, sometimes people just like to sling insults around because they can’t develop a coherent argument. I try to use analogies so they can maybe understand a bit too.
Just because some people on the engineer forums complained doesn’t equate to a chance something will change. Anet has to determine it was a problem, and that it was a problem with caring about. Evidently both occurred, but it took some time and resources to accomplish, so it wasn’t some simple task. But hey, maybe in two years we’ll see a red post about the name.
Single player vs MMO has no bearing on the desirability of feedback. Like, if Anet stopped asking for feedback would GW2 turn into a single player game?
And considering the silent majority is silent, I don’t think we can claim if they support anything.
If the name wasn’t a big problem, why are we taking at length about the name, posting on a thread titled “yo, liked the presentation, but the name still don’t fit.”?
(edited by Ghotistyx.6942)
I just wish we could get a dev response on this, is it even a possibility that the name/theme can be changed? Or are we all wasting our time giving this feedback?
A simple “we are considering changing the name/theme please continue providing feedback” or “we apologise but we are far to deep into development to change the name/theme it is permanent” would be greatly appreciated.
Anet asked for our comments (maybe). They did not ask for feedback. The name was never up for discussion. This has been explained before.
40 pages of essentially the same names saying it is or is not a problem doesn’t really seal the deal for me. Even if every page was full of unique posts purely against the name, it would still constitute a very small minority of players, but as we know that’s not the case. We have the same people posting many, many times, and posting both for and against. I don’t think we can constitute forum activity as proof there’s a problem. I’ll leave it to the Devs to determine if its A) A problem and
A problem worth caring about.
Like, what are you planning on doing if they don’t cave to your demands? Not play the game because of a name? or maybe you don’t like the DH aesthetics either. You still have 8 other professions to spend your time with. Are you not going to eat at a restaurant because they serve waffle fries? “Uhh… I don’t like the name waffle fries as they don’t really fit with the theme here, and uhh… waffles are a breakfast item, not something that you eat for lunch or dinner like fries normally are, so you really need to like, completely redesign the whole thing you’ve got going here. I suggest the name change to something more appropriate like square-hole flapjack fries”.
Not to mention, what would separate Tomes from Foci? Foci already have Tome skins.
^
The mere fact that this name (and specialization) needs so much justification shows how bad it is.
Just because some vocal people make a stink about something, doesn’t mean its actually a problem. Just because your group is loudest doesn’t make it correct.
Considering Dagger is the best main hand weapon for lifesteal, its alright if the GS is worse. For all we know, it could be second best, which would be fine with me. All I know is one of my necros is taking gs+d/wh to steal all the lives
I’ve been strongly considering something like a hybrid vampire with gs-d/wh. http://dulfy.net/gw2traits#build=AgQGmAL4BKQ~ Should represent it well enough. Reaper traits (because they aren’t on the builder at the time of this writing) are Chilling Nova (maybe Relentless Pursuit), Soul Eater, and Deathly Chill. I’m also considering Terror over Parasitic Contagion, it’ll all depend on how they each feel. Curses might also need to be replaced with Spite depending on how things pan out. It’ll definitely be interesting to play with.
The idea is to get to 100% crit chance. Using GS, you’ll have life siphon on hit, gs hit, crit, well hit, food, sigil, and possibly rune if I feel so inclined. Dagger and Warhorn for their fast attack speed, and wells for their general useful nature. I’m not sure what I want the gear to be. I’ll need to get reasonably close to 80% and after that stack Power, Condi, defense, and healing power.

What do you do for work Farzo? Whatever it is, I hope you’ve found someone else to do anything that your work isn’t, because obviously you can only work on what your title is.
Robert used the term “we” both times he’s introduced an elite spec, while referencing who works on the specs. I can almost assure you Karl is also on that team, which means both Robert and Karl have been involved with all three released specs so far.
2 of the big damage traps have 10 hits, and another requires them to cross a line. I don’t know, but those traps don’t seem like burst to me. Then again, I probably wouldn’t ever use them for single battles. Drop them where you can guarantee a zerg will cross, and you’ve got yourself some good overall damage.
Also, Sig of Spite hardly does damage. Its got a lot of messy condis, but there’s only poison and a midgen of bleeding for the moment damage wise.
You’re correct in that most everything on the forums is just speculation. I tend to see a lot of guardian speculation in the negative though.
inferior mechanics
keep telling yourself that
If you’d like, we can have Anet not list the Reaper’s traits and change the name from something “cool” to something that gets people’s panties in a twist. Would that be sufficient for you to get your red post?
Yeah, to whoever people saying Ranger’s traps are superior without trapper rune, go try it yourself RIGHT NOW please.
To be fair, Ranger traps are currently superior, as you can actually use them in game.
Friendly reminder:
Resistance doesn’t make you immune to conditions. It makes you immune to the effects while its active. Once Resistance drops, you’ll be taking all of that burning and bleeding (among anything else) you’ve just sat in.
I forgot the time I could dodge through a static or ward,
You only need 100% crit if you’re only managing 1 attack per second. Even on a single target you can do more than that. However, without any boon duration, you’re right about only getting 5 stacks, but that’s 5 stacks you can put into a zerg or on allies in pvp where PS doesn’t really see much light. I wouldn’t be opposed to having changes for EM, but they probably shouldn’t be too far from the current iteration.
VoJ’s trait in the DH line is Big Game Hunter, so you’d be doubling up on traits for VoJ compared to others, and put it at contention with the VoC trait. Stab on True Shot is a lot more attractive, as you can almost keep it up indefinitely just through true shot. Much better than less than 1/4 uptime imo. I do see your point about doubling down on Longbow traits, but I’m not really sure what to change about Heavy Light that would make it more general.
As for Hunter’s Fortification, I also don’t know what exactly to turn that trait into. I don’t really see a missing piece that needs to be hit, so the trait is more of a luxury selection (which generally makes them harder to brainstorm for). However, I have had the idea to split the “on virtue activation” and add it to Piercing Light, allowing virtue activation to remove ~5s from trap recharge.
We don’t know if things like traps not popping on Teq, Shatt, or CoJ will be fixed or otherwise altered come the expansion. Plus, I think its assumed you’d get a small army to fight things that have claws literally larger than the max height and weight Norn. I don’t think mechanically or lore-wise one would be expected to go mano a draco.
However, for the minions of the Dragons, singular hunters with traps and a bow can be very effective hunters.
The passive on SoC could easily be something like a 2k heal, which would be a 200hps spread. Exactly when the heal procs is generally less important than the rate it heals. Plus, you get the effect without much effort.
And I don’t really think we need to remove the icd on EM. The reason phalanx strength works on warrior is because of the greatsword trait, which means you won’t really get much use out of other weapons. EM works right out of the box, and just by auto attacking you’re generally getting the effect as often as you really need
Anet needs to stop calling or referring to the Dragonhunters as “witch hunters”. GW2 has a large Pagan community and whether their ancestors or even if they themselves are witches, the witch hunters past and present still victimize anyone they view as a “witch”. This needs to stop in real life AND game life.
GW2 has made strides in equal treatment of the LGBT community, please don’t make unintended victims out of those who follow the Pagan Path in our community, in the form of Sylvari mostly, by using this reference.
Just please stop referring to the unfortunately named Dragonhunter as “witch hunters”.
I know you are all excited about the changes you have made but quite frankly you have ruined the Guardian for me with these terrible skills, traits and name.
The fact that you are encouraging people to hunt those who may or may not be minions of Mordremoth (and face it, the fact that the Pale Tree is/was intended as a dragon champion before being found, planted and raised by Ronan and Ventari makes every Sylvari a minion in the eyes of a zealot witch hunter) is a major disappointment.
Personally I was hoping for a Guardian more along the lines of healing and party support, not some crazed zealot in the Tea Party/GOP venue.
I have nineteen level 80’s but I fear that my Guardians have all just been retired to mule status.
Is the pagan population really large? What kind of numbers can you provide for us?
Why would you need to mention Anet has been “making strides” when they’ve never shown an issue to begin with? You make strides when you need to improve something. If you don’t need to improve you just do it.
Why would you complain about being encouraged to hunt things that may/may not be Mordremoth minions when hunting dragons and the minions is the whole point, mechanically and lore-wise? Just say “don’t encourage people to hunt non-Mordy minions”
Also, I’m glad you felt the need to take a stab at the US Right, as if everyone who plays is american and as if the left doesn’t have their own hordes of fanatics.
I’m so glad you feel the need to relegate your guardians, all of them, to mule status because an optional option is available to not ever choose if you felt so inclined.
I don’t know what kind of projector you got for Christmas but I’d certainly appreciate it if you unscrewed the bulb and didn’t turn it on again.
The thing with the zerg buster idea is that due to the length of time the traps would be out, regardless of the cleansing, you’d be stacking bleeding and burning so quickly you’re forcing a zerg to pop multiple cleanses, heals, or outright downing people before they’ve even engaged a second person. You can also bet money the zerg won’t be efficient with cleanses, popping multiple aoe cleanses that end up being wasted. Now, even of the zerg survives the onslaught well, they’ve got key skills on cooldown when your zerg engages. Corridors should no longer just be something you can plow through.
To be fair, I think the term “become” is what has that question answer itself
If you’d be so kind, would you also spend some effort to show which bloggers do like the name, since you’ve said you’re going for impressions and they can be both positive and negative.
Is Arenanet supposed to cater to the whims of media folk?
The power damage from the traps won’t even be the big zerg killers. Paired with Piercing Light (bleed on trap hit), maybe Supreme Justice (VoJ procs every 3 hits), and definitely Permeating Wrath (VoJ passive procs aoe, might be changed to proc on target instead of on the guardian), the condition damage you will be able to rack up on a zerg is scary. 10 pulses from at least 2 (or if you’re ballsy 4) traps will stack so much burning from passive VoJ, a Dire or Carrion trapper that builds specifically to zerg bust will be a terror for zergs in chokes (like placing right behind a gate or on stairs in a tower or keep). You could even get the scepter trait and just hold the scepter to get 25+ stacks of might in almost to time at all.
Just one trap in pvp on a point or channeling area would be sufficient to give yourself a large spacing advantage. Traps will have their purpose in the game, you just need to find out where they work the best to fully take advantage of em.
It’s already been confirmed the races cannot interbreed
He flat out implied that anybody who “doesn’t get it” was too dumb to get it.
Maybe you are.
And I hope they don’t change the name. Mostly because I’m at peace with their decision making, but also because some people get so incredibly butt flustered over it.
I forgot the time where you could completely roll through a 240u skill.
The buffed 1.5k shattered aegis will simply annihilate Rolexticker’s clones.
Chronomancer name sucks. Petition for rename to Rolextickers
Also, no more on-kill traits
As far as I remember, access to the new weapons are an aspect of the elite specialization itself, so probably no, you’d have to spec Dragonhunter to use longbow.
You don’t have to take 6 or even 3 traps. 1 or 2 would suffice to make them worthwhile. Just like with thief and ranger, you sacrifice a lot to take 3 traps, but for some its worth it.
Should we remove all the Norn too because they’re Icebrood, or Charr because they’re Branded?
You’ll just have to be smart about trap placement. In pvp you’ve got conquest points/chokes, the Courtyard center, or Stronghold gates, supply depot, and Hero channeling thing.
In wvw, trappers will be great at objective defense. Place em right behind a door and when they bust through, oh snap its a trap! Consider Piercing Light, Supreme Justice, and Permeating Wrath with Procession of Blades and Light’s Judgement. If the 4.5k burn ticks on Svanir(?) made you squeamish, a zerg running through that with you nearby will make Trogdor need to lie down for a second and sip some ginger ale.
Many of these traps are long duration. Compared to Thief (npc for 20s or 1 pulse) and Ranger (1, 3, or 5 pulses), these will have a long uptime of area denial. Put just one of the pulsers on a point and you’ve got 10 seconds to /sleep or /readabook while an enemy now has to make some important life decisions.
Now after saying all this, I’m not 100% satisfied myself with how traits are going to look. I think Procession of Blades (the meat grinder) needs to be a whirl finisher, and Fragements of Faith (the aegis one) could be a blast finisher at least. I also don’t like the cooldowns on the traps either, but considering their movement towards active play cooldown reduction, we could add “Reduce recharge of Traps by X seconds when activating a virtue” functionality to Piercing Light (bleed on trap hit trait).
are you familiar with the phrase “the customer is always right”? we are the customers.
this forum exists to garner feedback, we are providing it.
why do you arrogantly assume the role of trying to censor legitimate opinions? you need only post that you like the name, and leave others to express their own opinions.
I have to chime in here.
You’ve got the quote wrong. Its “The customer is always wrong, and they don’t really know what they want. If you don’t like them, give them exactly what they ask for”.
If you don’t want to play then don’t
I’d assume we get the elite skill changes when we get the specialization change.
We get specialization change before HoT
So basically, sometime between Soon™ and When It’s Ready™
First off, I misread the first post, so I’m going to give some actual thoughts now.
1) Traps need a cooldown reduction aspect. The traps look strong, but kitten cooldowns as base make me not really want to check traps out.
2) Finishers on traps. Procession of Blades absolutely needs to have a whirl finisher on it (Light field anyone?). Fragments of Faith could afford a blast finisher when it pops.
3) Something in addition to bleeding on hit would nice, although I’m not sure what it should really be. Afaik there are 4 traits that affect traps with the new specializations. 2 are traps on heal (we have a healing trap so that seems redundant though very powerful) and the other two are recharge traps on cd for 10s when you steal (they generally have around 35s base cd) and the other is larger aoe, longer conditions, and cd reduction (these have between 15-30s base cd, but only 1, 3, or 5 pulses). Perhaps we could lower our trap recharge based on virtue activation (5s per or so?). If they’re planning on changing the trait that gives aoe prot on virtue activation, and they like the boon application portion, they could split that trait in half and implement the above while they think of a new other half for that grandmaster.
4) I don’t really see us getting a boon or stunbreak based on trap use/activation. It seems like it would be clunky to use, and traps and related traits now and in the future don’t really afford that kind of functionality. (Stunbreak on Dragon’s Maw does seem interesting though)
You could try a tanky symbol build. You won’t be full on dps, but you could conceivably put out some good sustained damage.
Did you know if you took a traited Retreat! with 0 boon duration and pop it on cooldown, you get an effective 25% movement speed increase? Or if you don’t want to trait, get a smidgen of boon duration. The cost of taking Retreat is the same as if we had a signet like many other classes.
Lets not forget that you have to be wielding a Torch when it procs in order to throw the flame. The trait procs the portion of Zealot’s Flame that gives you the aoe burn. The toss is a free aspect that doesn’t have a cooldown because that’s normally controlled by the Flame anyway. You could run the trait without torch and still get the aoe burn procs without the ability to toss the flame. Its a nice, flavorful trait that really gives you a reason to run torch, but doesn’t necessarily require torch use.
What about… Traps hits bleed enemies?
I dunno about anyone else, but 10 pulses of revealed and 25 vuln, ward+slow, and pickup aegis sounds fairly supportive to me, and that’s just the traps.
As far as I know, you can still throw it on activation of the trait, it just procs on receiving a crit instead of you critting.
‘The Librarian’
Guardians next Elite Specialisation!
I’d be down with an Archivist
I always thought it was fine in the first iteration, its not like it activated the second chain in the skill so all you gained was a small AOE burn.
If it relies on you being critically hit now then it kinda looses allot of its appeal.
I mean defensive stuff that reduces/prevents damage is nice but offensive stuff that relies on you getting hurt to trigger is never that great.
If you were wielding a Torch, according to the initial spec stream, it would actually activate the second portion, and you’d be able to throw it even if it was on cooldown before. I’d prefer it to proc when you crit myself, but its fine if its on reception, it still looks like a 6s cooldown. I’m still going to take it for my hybrid guard.
I wouldn’t be opposed to “Feel My Wrath” also having a short knockdown component.
I know if I didn’t decide to pull an all nighter I’d have some additional ideas you could mull over, but at the moment I’ve got nothing. The only thing I can think of so far is that I’d like to see a consecration heal and elite, but that might be more work than its worth at the current point in time and development. Conceptually what you’re put before us is good, I guess it really just depends on the numbers.
If “Feel My Wrath” has a similar uptime to cooldown ratio as Warrior Elite Signet, that would be fantastic, and if the signet had a cooldown that made it worth trying to activate that would also be great. I’m not a fan of utilities that cooldown twice as long as other elites, and elites that cooldown over 3 time as long.
I swear if ANet leans on Braham’s character motivations and story as the basis of this class I’m going to flip a table.
Please bolt down your tables for your safety and the protection of those around you.
I have a table in mind already. Mayhem is coming.
Is it a…
Table of Contents?
Lets not forget you can mix and match here. You can do full melee condi traps with trapper runes, or you could do full shouts and AH with the Longbow and Virtue changes, or any mix of what these skills bring. You aren’t forced to utilize everything the spec offers, but instead use what you need to its fullest.
Probably not, but it is poor presentation (which was the point). It makes me feel like that arrows aren’t doing anything.
I can agree with this. I’m fine with the name, the aesthetics, the mechanics, and all that, but I don’t think the video didn’t really do the best job at imparting the right kind of feeling you should get from the spec.
