Hi all,
I’m after a few suggestions (trolly/non-serious suggestions more than welcome haha) for what to spend the 80ish gold on that I’ve accumulated after 250hrs of play.
Kind of at a loss what to spend the money on as I’m a casual player who’s likely never going to bother going for a legendary, mainly because;
-It’s too much of a time investment
-It doesn’t look much fun (games are supposed to be)
-Most people who get one are only looking to show off to other people on the internet they don’t know (my opinion) which seems immensely pointless in the grand scheme of things, altho fair play it’s completely people’s choice to go for one
I’m currently pretty happy with how my gear looks (my asura thief is essentially too small to make much difference anyway – all exotics, transmuted skins of a dredge helm/deathly shoulderpads(from opening only 1 halloween chest which was quite good) and the rest just standard crafted skins. Have a mystic crossbow and a flamebelch sword skin and that’s about it.
Anyway apologies for the pretty uninteresting tl;dr post but was curious about what people would spend that amount of money on for fun… (note – i spend on wvw already) if i’m not interested in a legendary.

^ very good tip – i’ve found that veering slightly to the right thing helps as well. but mainly ignore it as like you said, far too unreliable! Hopefully it’ll get some love as the devs work there way through the many fixes etc.
Do you mean assassin’s reward mate? Tried that before and wasn’t blown away by it but I know a few people who rate it.
But yeah I had a very similar build previous to this one, I absolutely loved withdraw and its ultra quick cooldown with vigor on heal, hilarious amount of dodges!
still find myself bashing dodge and having nothing there with my current build but I see the ethos of s/d to rely on shadowsteps and stealth&daze/blinds for damage mitigation instead of dodges. Both work really well to be honest!
Thanks! Might stick with my blind on stealth and Executioner then! May try Mug however as I i’m pretty much full berserker with valk weps and a vit accessory or two, so I hear it would hit quite hard at around 3100 power… Thanks for the reply

I play SB and S/D in WvW and while i’ve heard it blows goats in P/TPvp i’ve had a lot of success with it and enjoy the control and stealth it offers. Have had some great fights against skilled groups/individuals and loving it so far, have only lost one 1v1 against a skilled Engineer – which I knew was a counter to an s/d thief and most other 1v1 are almost unfair, especially poor Rangers, it feels pretty unfair 1v1 but that’s another matter I guess…
Basically i’m after advice:
Currently I am 0/30/30/10/0.
Side Strike (+7% crit chance behind/side)
5% of Prec converted into Vit
And still umm’ing an ahh’ing over Executioner/Hidden Killer, as my build revolves around CnD,blinding powder it seems the 100% crit chance from stealth could end a fight quicker against 1-3 but fighting zergs with SB benefits from +20% dmg to <50%hp enems. What are your thoughts?
Also, i can’t decide whether to go:
Infusion of shadow (definite pick)
But unsure on whether to go Cloaked in Shadow for blind on stealth (stealth so often seems v-handy) or for Stealth on Steal.
I am thinking of sacrificing the 10 points in Acrobatics to get Mug (and bonus poison on Steal) as with the synergy of Stealth on Steal can see that being a huge bonus in a fight with Hidden Killer/daze on sword auto attack+dmg from Mug – pretty big opener!
Anyway i know i waffle on but would appreciate any and all comments/thoughts on all that.

Man up, stop being an absolutely over-entitled tool, you made the mistake, get on with it. People have bigger problems in this game that the devs should prioritise (nevermind IRL where your ‘problem’ is even more laughable).

Probably an idiot to, but still holding out for a race change one day. Will pay pounds for it, not gold. Be do-able if they could fit some sort of story/event around it…but there are a million more important things to do first I spose haha.

Yeah i’ll add my vote to this i’d pay ALL THE GEMS to allow a complete (race/gender everything) transformation of character.
I love my Asura but some of the jumping puzzles have been a nightmare and the fact I can barely see ANY changes to my armour I work so hard to get i’d love to change to something equally cool, like a Sylvari. Do it Anet, allllll the gems!

Amazing utility, saved so many teammates in pve/wvw in daring rescues, i’m just a helpful thief like that.
My one question, sometimes when I stealth into Shadow’s Embrace, i can exit and remain stealthed for the full duration walking around like idgaf i’m stealthed innit. Other times, i’m revealed the instant i leave the house. Can anyone tell me what the rule is for this and exactly how it works, haven’t been able to find many details.

Don’t flame me…but was wondering if people could enlighten a casual noober such as myself;
I have a level 80 thief and a lvl 3 Engineer (my next challenge) and was wondering what benefits there may be of using my low-level Eng to get sidekicked up in a lvl 80 party with friends to do some of the Lost Shores content, assuming the Xp gained will scale down etc, as will maybe the loot?
And then switching to my main char to do any ascended gear quests/one time events etc.
Positives/negatives of doing this anyone?

Kyrus, (same as my private message) could you share your gear/build basics? I have very similar ideas on how a wvw thief should be played, but sitting at about 50% crit and baseline toughness (with only 25 points into vitality traits for survivability) plus the major kiting i do to anyone who tries to catch me of course. Thanks!

Jesus H, some people take this all way too seriously. All that “you’ll show us the respect we deserve” spiel makes me cringe hard.
As Magnus says, if BT/VS can put the most man hours in they’re likely to rack up the most points consistently, and fair play to them! Add to the fact they are well organised and it’s no surprise.
I’m a majorly casual player and get a couple of hours a night if i’m lucky but even encountering these “turtles” (which is cool enough organisation-wise, not skill-wise imo) the w3 game is always fun for me (A desolation player) every time I log on. I was part of the deso group last night that knocked BT straight back after they’d trebuchet’d our wall from about a million miles away then zerged in, they may be winning and will probably continue to do so, but I don’t see an individual-player skill difference at all.
Anyway TLDR. All this trying-too-hard-macho “show us respect” rivalry is just cringey. Deso/VS/BT is still hella fun for me, hopefully people won’t move servers due to the score…it’s just a game. A kitten*ing fun one at that

Coming to that time of the game where i’m at 80 and trying to kit out fully.
What do you guys all use on your weapons for pve/wvw etc?
Also if anyone could enlighten me on whether the offhand wep sigil counts, I have a basic idea that 2 same-sigil cooldowns will not go off more often as they share a cooldown etc but it someone could clarify the rules on it that’d be great.

Ahh Explorer’s! Didn’t even know that it existed so i’ll maybe go for that if it’s a bit cheaper, +condition is fine as I farm by scattering caltrops and spamming shortbow aoe’s.

Im level 80
Got my +MF runes
What is best way to get a +MF set? Source on the TP? And do I just search for “Traveler’s” leather armour? I’m clueless! I’ll have to be happy with a full yellow set at 80 as no chance of affording full exotics.

Basically i’m a very casual noober, level 77 and absolutely loving my thief character (0,30,0,25,15 if anyone is interested) and i’d appreciate it if the heros on this forum of which i’ve been keeping tabs on/trying to understand for a while, could help me on a few points…
(longest sentence ever btw, apologies)
1 – My gear is pretty all-round terrible, mismatched quest gear, amulets/accessories from lvl 25 etc. (don’t laugh) And as i’m coming up to level 80 could people give me a bit of advice on the steps to take to go about getting properly geared up?
I’m going to go mostly berserk-age as my build is very dodge/speed/stealth/escape/run away like a screaming girl-orientated…Use SB in WvW a lot, res-ing players in stealth/creating poison combo fields and aoe’ing the odd bunch in close range, with the odd p/p.
2 – if you could also bear in mind that at lvl 77 i have 6.5g. From what i’ve rea on here so far that seems extremely embarassing, so obviously i would appreciate the most cost-effective ways of working towards exotics etc. So far have not been able to find ways to steadily make a good income in the game (from what I gather this is intentional from ANet?)
Oh and i’m about level 375 leatherworking
