I understand your problem but I would vote no. You level that fast in this game that it’s not a big deal. Your can run from wp to wp easily to get them ‘up’ the way you need them as well. If they would offer some gems payment for the waypoints of a map, they would have to strip you of any map completion bonus. it is not that easy

Living Story IMO Isn't Good for GW2

in Living World

The whole living story notion is a neat idea, but temporary content in general is rather ill-conceived. Putting in content only to yank it out a couple of weeks later is bad for the game. It results in tons of wasted development time and frustrates more players than it appeals to. It’s often so rushed too that the quality is hit or miss. Moreover, it’s internally inconsistent – all of the original dungeons have specifically themed stories surrounding them, yet none of them have been removed, why should any of the LS stuff?

What’s worse is that it gets the whole development of the game behind. After a full year of living story content, what does the game have to show for it? Existing and returning players will be put off by the fact that not much has changed and there isn’t much more in the game for them to play around with.

It was a pretty bad idea from the get go.

/signed. In (most) other MMOs the content, there might be fewer new content which gets patched into the game for free, but this fewer content lasts and fits to the game. Paid expansions bring much more enjoyment, really new features, places to explore for all and every player, no matter when someone tries to do it.

Living story has been an idea, but its nothing to keep players occupied. We don’t need some 1-2 hours content every two weeks. Hopefully some real expansion is announced soon. The game is good and could grow and become even better with it. Living story only changes tiny bits for some time. There is no such thing as growing with it. I wouldn’t say its a downfall, but it is no real development, sadly.

How to bring players back to GW2?

Release a solid, full expansion with more than 1 day’s worth of content

This. After some twinks and dungeons, what keeps players interested? Some tweak of a little story, which adds 1-2 hours of new game play? No. If someone looses interest that much, that s/he quits, it has to be something fresh that lasts. It has to be something, that can be explored in weeks and months. And there is nothing fresh and tempting as a good sized expansion with fresh and lasting content.

Living story might be something for those who still play, but it won’t get people back.

Totally agree with the op’s post. Sadly. Hopefully they will someday get back to their dedication to create a really good game, as we found it in the release version. Perhaps a good expansion can do the trick.

DE’s that will change the world as you do them. Don’t have those.
Play how you want. Yeah, nope.
Don’t grind. Giggle, snicker, right.
The story is about YOU! That walking salad kitten begs to differ.

I could keep this up for pages, if you want – do it for every single line of the manifesto. I don’t see the point. We’re not playing the game we were sold. It’s a good game, it’s just not at all what they spent the last few years telling us it would be.

Well, the release version is quite the game they told us about, but everything after the release … well from there on you are right. So GW2 has not lost its way, it just stopped walking any further on that way. Sadly.

Why is everybody complaining about RNG?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Grileenor.1497

Grileenor.1497

Noone can claim to have paid ArenaNet for RNG boxes. Its simply not true. They paid ArenaNet for Gems, and got exactly what they paid for.

Seriously, if someone buys gems for real money, to buy RNG items in the shop, he paid real money for the boxes. It is not how you name it, it is the intention of the user paying the real money which counts.

The problem of the RNG rage is: Anet sets the drop chance of things many people want to have so low, that some of them pay money for a greater chance to get the stuff. In my eyes Anet baits the people out of their money with the hope for greater chances. I don’t care about the minimal chance to get a drop in those chests, but they should offer the skins/wings and stuff for a real amount of gems like the picks and axes instead of more RNG stuff. Make it expensive, I wouldn’t care but it is far more fair for people paying Anets bills with it.

I wouldn’t buy a single gem ever for a RNG item or consumable, but there are enough people fall for such traps every time again.

So there are people complaining about how things are done and some are happy about it. Nothing wrong with both. Not every one likes the same things. What ist not ok is telling people to quit voice an oppinion, which is not yours op. And that is the reason I dislike this whole thread.

‘Can we just stop, please?’ No, not today and not in a year which is fine. If you like all the stuff Anet is doing, great for you. There are lots of people who don’t, respect that.

“Would you buy an expansion?”

I will preorder the day it will become possible. In fact, if there is no expansion announced by the end of the year, I will look for a game, that does expansions. I don’t care for the light content they offer with the lifeless story.

I want to explore big areas, I want to twink around all(and new) races and classes, I want to get new stuff to level up crafting as well as other stuff.

An new dungeon now and then and some 20 minutes types of gaming content won’t keep me here forever.

A clear yes for expansion!

I would like to have some epic quests leading you across the world to accomplish cool stuff. But I doubt it will ever concern legendary items.

The legendarys sole purpose for ArenaNet is being a money sink, and a big one as well. (Very few players will only continue to play to get one, but the prime purpose is not to keep players busy, but to get loads of money back out of the game) Not only will you have to gather items worth hundreds of gold for it, but many many players dumb loads of rare and exotic items into the mystic toilet for their chance to find a precusor. It is a very clever system and working.

Though most of the legendary weapons look like the result of a girls college design contest, obviously enough people try to get one of those anime like barbie token.

If you strip the game of this system, a very notable stream of money will flood the economy. I doubt that ArenaNet will accept that without a good new moneysink backup.

We had a similar discussion in our guild as really no one enjoys the living story stuff more than getting the achievements. Its work not fun, so all of us look eagerly forward to an expansion. We had a discussion and voted, what we would like to have most in it.

24% got to more personal story parts. Those loose ends at lvl 20 as well as all new story parts have been mentioned.
21% of the votes went to new explorable max lvl areas. All but one in our guild don’t like the barren look and the always same foes of orr.
18% in equal parts have been spend on either new races and new classes. Those who like to twink can’t really wait to get their hands on it, and there is no player in our guild who does not like to twink
13% would be interested in new meaningful stuff to craft, be it optional looks, upgrades, enchantments or even crafting work orders/quests to do around the world.

The rest has been single vote stuff for dungeons, WvW and lower level areas. Some do like playing them with higher level chars still. As you can see, we (casual, not so casual and RP with about 20 people) are not the biggest fans of sPvP

We all agreed, we will get some new weapons for the existing classes anyway, so we did not vote on it. But every one, active or not would not hesitate to buy the expansion without waiting for reviews. So the game is still liked by everyone in our guild.

GW2 expansion - 1Q Ncsoft Conference Call [merged]

ArenaNet is more than a dozen people working on this mediocre living story stuff. All the teams they told us about currently working on parts of the game are more or less 100 people. Leaving more than 150 people to do something else. What do yo think they do?

A B2P business model works with things to sell. Those silly stuff in the store might attract a player or two, but to pay some 250+ employees you need to sell boxes every now and then. If Colin would say a single word about the expansion, no one would care about his little living world thingy.

I am sure many many people of ArenaNet even started to work on expansions before the initial game has been released. They don’t offer it to us, the day it is done, they make it availabe, when it is financially interesting for the company or needed to pay their bills. After all(they are telling us) they work for money not(only) for fun

Glad to see this news from NCSoft. After all the boasting from ArenaNet blogs I don’t know any more, what to believe, if they are talking. Living story is nothing but dissapointing. From the first day. Every single person is able to think up those tiny bits of story during a single weekend. I really hope the developers who did all the good stuff in this game work on the expansion. This would explain the mediocre content of the living story.

Don’t look too much on what the devs of ArenaNet told us about expansion. Most they told us in their blogs have not been true, just boasting.

After 4 mos of Living Story, How It Feels

in Living World

Posted by: Grileenor.1497

Grileenor.1497

After those months with the “living story” all that remains is the big hope for a normal big expansion for real money. The first month hat nothing, neither “living” nor “story” just some signs to hit. The second month had again big words from Colin but neither much “living” nor “story” as well. Running around and grind some here and there, but where was something worth calling “story” anyway?

The third month Rox and Braham appeared and some small instances (15 minutes of fun) and yes, some story as well. Finally there was hope for the system. We had perhaps an hour of joy – not the scale Colin never ceases to advertise loudly, but hey, it was the most near to those promises made by ArenaNet for the living story that far.

Now we have the fourth month of promises. “Never seen before challenge” … really, we fight country shaking dragons. Such a puny shaman is most definately not “never seen before”. The dungeon is fun, no doubt, but the story around it, those bits of story offered to us is shale, mediocre, name it.

After four months of “living story” I say: cease it, stop it, it’s not worth the time. Give us a real expansion with stuff to explore, story which is worth to read and hear, dungeons and more and we will gladly pay for it. Not this cheap stuff you guys offered since release. No Colin, it’s not great, unseen before or better than all other game out there. Most MMOs I played offered better stuff for free than this living story. Really.

I still love the game, but for all it had on release day. After that… I would not pay a cent for it. And yes I am still playing

Guild Bounties Now Punish Smaller Guilds

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Grileenor.1497

This is just part of a disturbing trend with GW2’s ongoing development. When are they going to wake up and realize that players want FUN content, not content so challenging that it ruins the fun for the vast majority of the playerbase.

It’s such an oft repeated cliche in the MMO industry, the decision to cater live development to the most elite of the playerbase, on the assumption that they are a.) worth the nearly impossible effort to keep happy and b.) that that 1% is somehow more important to retain than the other 99% of us. Every MMO that has gone this route has dwindled away to nothingness. WoW may have gone to far in the other direction, but their success shows that mindfulness of casual players is the key to burgeoning success for an MMO.

I think this game has a high percentage of high play hour “casuals”. We don’t want content that can be facerolled, but we also don’t want content that is highly frustrating and most often doesn’t offer rewards any where near worth the frustration. However, we’ve spent several hundred+ hours playing the game because we love it and want more, fresh content and FUN things to do with friends and guild mates. Stop assuming that the hard-core are the only ones you will lose if you don’t find new ways to keep them happy and there are exponentially many players and potentially lost players that are casual than are “hard-core”.

If you want hardcore content, make hard core modes, in addition to normal modes, for dungeons and make T3 guild activities challenging, while allowing normal dungeons and T1/T2 Guild activities to be something “casuals” can actually have fun playing and leave feeling sufficiently rewarded for their time.

It really feels like Arenanet has had a major personality transplant since the game went live and it’s not taking the game in a positive direction. There seems to be a large portion of the company that still possesses the soul of what makes this game great, but it also seems like there is a darker faction pushing to take the game someplace that could tumble the entire wonderful house of cards that 5+ years and 300+ people built!

Well spoken. If you have three options of missions (T1, T2, T3), they should be doable by three different types of guilds/player types. Small guilds as well as “casual” gamers are still customers of no small number and you should very well show us, if you care for them as well as for those people how need extra challenging content to be happy.

Some bounty guys are way harder to fight than most dungeon bosses, who always offer a big chest for fighting them. And those aren’t even hard to find in some short restricted time.

Make it more fun and more accessable to hunt within the guild. We are not only fans but customers.

The future of crafting?

in Crafting

Posted by: Grileenor.1497

Grileenor.1497

Why think of the future of crafting, if the current system is pretty useless. Yes I have maxed all professions. When I play a twink, I buy gear from the broker because it is way cheaper and most times better than anything I could craft. Useless system if you ask me. And yes, I got that before I maxed all profession, because I like crafting. Nonetheless, until they fix the usefulness, I don’t care much about the future.

Crafted goods viable while leveling?

in Crafting

Posted by: Grileenor.1497

Grileenor.1497

Currently crafting is worth nothing unless you want to have to skill in the end to craft some legendary weapons. I have maxed all 8 crafting skills, because I like to craft. The system provided even the fun i used to get from a crafting system, but its value is zero. Whenever a twink needs more equipment, I twink a lot, I now could craft anything it might need. But to be honest, when I look only at the raw materials needed for any item of any level for any purpose – name it, it fits – selling the stuff and buying greens other people put up for selling, I would make profit.

The cost of making my own stuff is higher, then buying equal or better loot from other people.

Unlike you need xp for leveling (which I never ever need for one of my 8 chars) or you intend to build yourself a legendary, crafting is complete and utter useless.

One exception to each rule: cooking. You won’t possibly get rich, but since it will be used up, you could at least make some more for yourself.

So here is one for ArenaNet: give crafting some meaning. Currently it is a dead horse.

Back to the OP. A Bard and playable instruments for combat and/or RP would be awesome and something fitting well into this game. I would buy those charslots without thought for them

In the end, our goal for all of this content is to give guilds new goals and challenges to accomplished once they have researched deeply into each line, as well as require guilds to have researched multiple lines to unlock some upgrades. We expect guild members to have to work together as a guild to earn the influence needed to unlock these new missions, as well as overcome the challenge of the missions themselves.

In the future, we plan to continue to add more guild upgrades, as well as continue to add challenging guild missions, as we don’t want guilds to run out of goals and accomplishments they can achieve.

~Izzy @-’—-

You show with this, you only care for large guilds. We have 12-20 people playing casually, doing RP, having fun exploring the world and even a dungeon every now an then. For people like us, your system ist discouraging. Though we were eager to see the guild missions/content before, we now are on the brink to ignore it alltogether.

It wouldn’t have hurt anyone to add first further guild content at around lvl 2 progressing in size and level up with the guilds. Especially in the PvP tree. You won’t get more people playing PvP/WvW by forcing them to put influence in that tree.

Sad to see this update. Really.

Guild Missions [merged]

Grileenor.1497

I’m concerned that our guild has been hard gated out of building this new content ourselves. At our current rate of influence gain, without mass recruiting people which we will not do, we’re looking at 60+ days of influence gathering plus build time to get AoW to lv 5. Please reconsider introducing missions that smaller tier guilds can initiate, possibly starting around 1k influence to build. With that floor, even single person guilds can amass enough influence in a week or two of casual playing to at least initiate one mission.

Why dont you just buy influence with gold?

To some of us, 78g is quite a bit. Running dungeons and farming mats are both unfun, as well as TP flipping…as I said in the previous thread, if I wanted another job I’d get one, video games are supposed to be fun.

Same here. We are 12-20 people in the guild, which is not the smallest guild out there. But the news of having to have Tech Lvl 5 in any given tree for the first stuff of guild missions killed any excitement for the coming update. Nobody will now care enough to spend money on guild influence. Noone in our guild owns enough gold to even consider buying influence at this level. For us this update failed.

We are pve centric either. I don’t think Bounties will ever make it for our not that small guild. Like Rizzo told here, we don’t farm(work), we play. And this won’t change due to strange update features of the game.

Bad move, ArenaNet. I am sorry to see this happen.
