Preperations were actually designed to be for the Ranger class initially, but was converted to Venoms and given to Thieves instead. To this day, I am still wondering why.
Yeah i found that out to when i played my level 8 thief. They also gave traps to thiefs for some reason.
Yet ranger gets nothing new. On top of that i dont think many thieves actually use venoms when they can lolstealthbackstab people.
Im really hoping that the new skills they were talking about come out soon.
I think it would be great if we would get new cultural armor sets (t4 and t5). T3 is simply too cheap and almost everyone is running around with it.
I suggest 750g for a set of T4 and 2000g for a set of T5. It would be a great gold sink. Its a bit silly that the most expensive armor costs 119g for 6 pieces, but the most expensive weapons (one item) cost upto several thousand gold. Are you crazy (no offense)
Why would they even bother to make such armors is the majority of the player isnt even going to be able to afford it.
Its like legendaries, most of them are worth about 2k gold on TP, still many people have them. Heck quite a few people I know got several. They should make more super legendaries like Eternity, too.
Im all for legendary armors but imo it shouldnt be cultural armor. It should be something different. Perhaps some cool looking Pact armor. Idk.

If you can’t get enough gold for cultural sets now then you’re doing something wrong. Besides as people have said the emperor title would lose all meaning. If you can afford the armour then you can afford transmutation crystals as well.
But what if you’d want to equip multiple characters. That quickly runs into 100s of G’s.
What if you dont play as much etc etc. In a game which promoted itself as ‘no grind’ its simply weird.
Who cares about some random title. (Dont see what a emperor has to do with armor anyway)
So people who already pull out +100g have to spend even more to viably use their armor. Great , kick em while their down.
^That
If you want to change builds and still get the maximum stats you are going to need another complete set of trinkets.
And thats just on 1 character. Having time gated stuff really hurts people wanting to play different builds and alts.
They could give laurels(1-5) for higher end titles or completing the living world meta.
They are atleast working on making us able to finish people while in enlargement.
There are plenty of other gold sinks already in the game.
your paying 100g + for armor that is not even exotic so if you want to actually fight in it you would have buy transmutation stones which atleast 6+ g on top of it.
Legendaries/Titles are for show/bragging rights. I wouldnt mind something like legendary armors. But they cultural simply arent that , they arent even exotic.
I dont see why you have to pay 100g+ just to look like your own race. (which isnt much to brag about)
It seems unique to our profession yet we have only 1 trait which can grant it to us? weird…
Could our lack of stability(atleast thats what ive heard) be compensated by making enlargement more accesible to rangers?
Have a trait which increases enlargement duration?
Have a trait which gives us benefits while in enlargement?
Change rampage as one. Remove might stacking just grant enlargement + fury/swiftness?
A additional trait which gives us access to enlargement? (when our pet dies , or every 12th attack or something?, maybe let opening strike grant enlargement for a short period so remorseless sees more use)
All of the above?
What do you guys think?
Ever just scrolled through your utilitys?
Ever noticed how atleats half of them just amounts get effect x for y seconds?
Spirits:
We plant them and thats about it, nothing else we can do. (talking from a pve standpoint here , i dont know about the use of spirit active skills in pvp)
Traps:
We plant them….and wait. Only way to make them ‘active’ is with a grandmaster trait.
Signets:
well these are inherently quite passive already. My point still stands though.
Shouts:
Click and you do nothing with you didnt do before you clicked it.
The only utilitys we have that actually make you or your pet do something are ‘’search and rescue’’ and lightning reflexes.
At first i didnt even notice it. But then i created my second character. A mesmer.
Then as i started leveling i noticed there utilitys were so….different. As in they actually produced a effect on the enemy.
One utility and i could reflect back all of my enemies projectiles. Another utility had me make clones of myself…2 of them. Another ulitys just stunned my enemy etc etc. In other words a direct action/effect instead of gain boon x for y seconds.
I wondered why we ranger didnt have utility skills which produced such an direct effect(as in a actual action).
Then i remembered this skills from ….drums rolls yes Guild Wars 1.
http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Strike_as_One
Now i pose the question what happened to ranger skills such as those. Where i press the skill and i actually perform some kind of action be it a attack, a combo with my pet , a jump sideways/back.
I mean we are supposed to be the tamer of beasts but we cant teach them a trick. We cant combine our power into a single combination attack? That doesnt sound like beastmaster/trainer to me.
So if anyone from anet is reading this is there away that we could have utilitys such and strike as one again? Please make us feel like beastmasters again. Not a adventure that happens to have a pet.
Could the current pet shouts be modified for such purpose by adding a combination attack at the start of the shout? Or would that be to OP?
For example(just examples that why i left the duration and stuff out) :
’’Sic’em’’ : Your next attack inflicts Vulnerablity, Your pet gains a attack of oppertunity and leaps towards your foe , your pet gains 40% movement speed and 40% damage .
‘’Protect me’’: Your next attack grants you protection and you take the damage of the next attack your pet would take. Your pets next attack grants it retaliation and absorb all the damage you would take.
’’Guard’’: Your next attack grants your pet enlargement , Your pet leaps to your foe granting you enlargement and itself stealth and protection.
Discuss.
Pet basilisk would be awesome.
Pet bull?
Pet Lion/Tiger?
Pet rainbow phoenix(i miss it)
Pet hedgehog
Pet donkey
Pet Rockdog (ogres have em so why not)
Pet eagle.
Pet Anaconda
I’d already be more then happy if they could merge / swap some of our traits for more build variety.
I dont like having to go 30 MM for usefull signets. The traitline has way to much. Its has traits for a full signet build, full long bow build , on top of flat percentage bonuses to damage and a passive group buff on top of that.
Imo the signets actives could be toned down to be inline with the other proffessions, then they would primairly activate for us, and we could have a grandmaster/master trait which gives our pet the effects to.
Or 30 skirmishing for optimal traps which arent really optimal because the line doesnt give a condition duration or damage bonus.
Also some of the traits are way too specific (looking at you pet family traits) is there a reason they just cant give every pet the effect?
Or another example opening strike. Why do i have to invest an additional 10 point in MM for my pet to have it? We are supposed to be the companion/pet class right?
Its very taxing on the trait points to have to trait for BOTH your pet and yourself.
I’d like to suggest to have more traits such as Bountifull Hunter (NM 25) it gives a (smaller) damage bonus for both you and your pet. Or companions defense which has a effect for both you and your pet.
The on weapon swap trait from skirmishing could easily affect you and your companion.
Eagle eye could easily increase the range for both our bows and our long range pets
Alpha training could easily be merged with opening strike. Then for example move precise strike to MM 15, and remorseless to MM 25.
Aglity training could include a smaller speed bonus for the ranger himself.
And a ‘reverse fortyfying bond’ trait would do wonders for BM/boon builds.
My point being there are to many ‘pet only’ and ‘ranger’ only traits for a class that is supposed to be a beastmaster.
At the moment i dont feel like a master of beasts i feel like a watered down warrior with a companion(who i have to sacrifice potentially many of my traits points for)
Edit:
On the topic of the greatsword i do like the evade on auto attack alot. But my 2 cents would that i (in pve) only use the 1-3 skills. Skill 4 and 5 see very little play maybe give them some kind of damage bonus/effect/lower cooldowns to make them more used?
Some kind of boon for our pet on auto attack would be nice too maybe make the evade on our attack also go for our pet?
(and as everyone else said a damage bonus would be nice to GS needs a bit of "POW’ from something other then maul.)

Having recently leveled my ranger to 80 i was looking for a build to play i tried a GS crit build but didnt really like it that much. So now im going for a pet / boon build.
Only i seem to be stuck between these two:
and
Any advice of which one to take /improvements for both?
I know they most likely (certainly) wont be implented hence why i wrote that in the first sentence of the thread.
The problem is that those type of skills dont even exist in any form in gw1. The closest thing to a preparation we have is sharpening stone and it kinda sucks.
Our block/Evade stance gone.
Our interrupts .Pratically non-existant. We were the spellcaster bane in gw2 , but the casters dont have much to fear from a gw2 ranger.
Since this would be quite the major overhaul i dont expect to happen but still its nice sharing/discussing.
So my idea is something similiar to Death Shroud/Whatever wars have.
It would be called something like ‘Symbiotic Bond’ entering this state would then do the following.
-You and your pet have a shared healthbar.
-This shared healthbar would be your original health times 1.25 or 1.5 or another reasonable number.
-Your weapon skills would get added ‘effects’ depending on the family of the pet you have equiped. So for example if your pet would be a fire drake , your sword/longbow/axe etc #1/ skill would cause burning for a few secs while in ‘Symbiotic bond’, maybe add bleeding when you have felines etc etc etc. (This would be alot of work).
-Your Pets Skills would also get added effects depeding on the weapon you have equiped, for a example felines would get a leap added to one of their attack skills when you have a GS equipped. Bleeding when you have a shortbow(or something else) etc etc.
-Or maybe only the #1/autoattack skills would get added effects because doing all skills is way too much work.
-You get access to your pets full skillbar.
-All boons you get are shared with your pet (basically the fortifying bond trait), But also All boons your pet gets are also shared with you.
-All Pet traits (for example the 30% crit damage for pets) lose 50% of their strenght (so only 15%) but now also affect you.
Basically you can enter and exit this whenever you want since the potentially 200% damage you receive from having a shared healthbar is a great risk imo.
If the risk is too great you and your pet can share attributes which would be your own + a percentage of your pets stats added to it.
So would you have like to have seen this implented in the ranger class? Or have your own take on this?
I find it really weird that we have traits for ONLY our pet wouldve been better if they would be shared.
