You sound like a cloud that just drifts around and goes wherever the wind blows, why would you even care if hardcore content was released?
Also the fact that you have an alt just proves that you ran out of content to do on your main/first character, And even more you are leveling crafting which is a grind itself, You even said yourself “As for grinding why are so many players so attached to it? It is boring and time consuming.” Yet you’re doing it without even realizing it.
@Beardrex
Only if you want to progress in gear, again .. you don’t have to, There are options out there that make the content available for casual gamers, Just look at wows raiding system, they have a 5 man, 10 man, 25 man raid system, the gear levels adjust to the higher numbers.
If you are just looking forward to completing the content but don’t want to grind like a mad man or put effort in to get there, then do the lower difficulty version of that content. You can still do the content, just the requirements are removed and the rewards are reduced (stats).
Leaving those wanting the challenge = Hardcore players to endure the struggle and be challenged.

hey man.
Your post describes the difference between hardcore and casual gamers, by pacing yourself the content seems to unlock slower, being a hardcore gamer we see all and do all which causes the content to run out.
If this game wants to keep a high population it will need a hardcore player base. As all games need, It cant survive off a casual “Go Play another game” way of thinking.
For an endgame for hardcore players we need a goal and restrictions,
It could be a gear restriction ( Requiring stronger stats to survive harder content, obtained through various different ways.
-Player number restriction (Requiring XX players for boss), taking on a 15 man boss with 5 people, well you can just.. good luck
-Teamwork restriction ( Boss difficulty ), Helping each other, activating objects that assist in defeating boss, If not executed correctly causes wipe and event reset.
-Questline requirements (Such as our entire story as example, we cannot do the last mission without completing previous missions),
-item requirement restriction (such as a key to unlock something which is obtained from an easier dungeon) << example of Explore mode needs story completed.
You want to know world of warcrafts system to support both casual and hardcore players, Everything is done through a 24 hour cooldown called -Dailies- which stops the hardcore gamers from taking off infront. So basically that is what it feels like to be locked out of content for 24 hours.
The casual gamers can reach the high end content, but by pacing.. it will take longer.
I hope that this game will never have dailies or something that prevents you from reaching content for a period of time.

@onshidesign
Sounds like a grind just in a disguised and polite way lol.
My question is, why have a chance to obtain high level gear if it has no use?
Farming materials is also a grind, you’re working for something to obtain something.

Please share some of the content you experience and enjoy at 80, Also how long have you been 80?
@Tosha daydreamer.
Try to understand that, Nothing is forcing you to do something you don’t want to, You need to understand that you’re not the only one playing this game and that others have different ideas on what content or “Boring content” is.
You speak of guildwars 1 for not having this system and for you that may have been perfect, But if guildwars 1 is so perfect, Why the creation of GW2?
If content is released and you don’t want to do it, that’s fine.
Lotro has that exact system, Can learn the other races dance.
Yes this is an issue that a lot of us coming from other MMO’s have found, Leveling from 1 to 80 makes sense with the loot reward system, Increasing our stats to challenge the higher level zones.
At 80 the rewards and the grinding is there, just the items have no use because we are not needing them for anything beyond max level.
-There is no future dungeon that requires items from grinding.
-No world boss that requires items from grinding.
-No Event that requires items from grinding.
Basically we are just grinding and collecting items for nothing progressive other than visual appeal.
Usually in order to have a sustained endgame in (PVE) you need to give players a goal and then add ways to reach it = Grinding for Gear, Quest items, Unlock items, anything that adds a requirement to unlock something adds to the grind and makes it beneficial ( such as going from quest gear, to dungeon gear, to raid gear)
But it seems a lot of players don’t want that style of gameplay.
it cant be compared really, Space combat vs err how do you explain this? lol
I love the combat on this, This is the first game that has had smooth animations and combat since wow that I have found, With my latency.. this game is god, My only issue with this game is the feeling that I’m playing single player.
In this game we team up with others to complete dungeons, The problem I find is that I don’t need to interact with anyone else in that dungeon until they are knocked down and I need to revive. It’s basically a dps race (everyone for them self) until someone is taken down.
I tried building a healing / support ranger and I couldn’t keep others alive and I became a burden for the DPS, reason was I could no longer do decent DPS, also my heals were pointed because it was based on a Heal over time which most in my group were taking more damage than I was healing.
I’m always seeing people say that “we are our own tank, our own healer and our own DPS” but saying that means I dont need anyone else. I only need to support myself and revive others.
What ever happen to the taking on of an important role, where other will require your aid and you will need theirs.

Star Trek still had requirements to be met in order to succeed when battling stronger foes.
Also the need to use teamwork when battling these foes, Scientific vessels usually played the role of a support character which would assist larger vessels taking all the hits, such as shielding, repairing using drones, slowing, disabling enemies. crowed control. I found Star trek to hold more challenging content than this game at it’s current state.
This game has potential just it’s limiting itself because it wants to be unique and not follow other MMOs.
And to your edit – I really enjoyed playing my elementalist in GW1 as a support role.
I liked the fact that as we are traveling completing the story zones, I would be in earth element which would allow me to shield and create barriers that reduce damage taken by teammates within.
The only thing that really put me off of GW1 was the control design (click to move, static animations wasnt smooth and had to finish before doing another action, being Australian I experience a lot of lag which causes the character to bounce around)
And this topic isn’t just about healers. We are also discussing boss fights and the challenges involved.

Hey signet of forums.
I can name the MMORPGs I have played and explain my experience.
World of warcraft
Lotro
GW1
Startrek online.
final fantasy
I could post my world of warcarft story that I’ve been working on which states my thoughts on the design of the game and the professions, classes, skills, talents, dungeons, quests. But it would be rather large and it’s not fully completed.
Wouldn’t exactly say gear blocked. For a challenge as a definition “A test of one’s abilities or resources in a demanding but stimulating undertaking”
Now In order to be challenged there needs to be requirements, Struggle, the need to think. If everything Is always handed to you without any requirements or need of a goal, It becomes way to easy.
-Here have a boss, Stand there attacking it for 5 minutes, no need to think about mechanics or anyone else, welldone on defeating said boss, here’s your reward = loot.
wait what Loot? Why Do I need loot for if there’s nothing in this game that requires the need for it. that’s rather pointless ….
Giving someone a goal in order to succeed in an area of difficulty is not a waste of time, If there is a boss that is to difficult for my friends and I to defeat at our current state, Give us a reason or a goal that will make us strong enough to succeed.. and we will do it.
ATM without a goal that involves struggle.. its pointless because it’s to easy.
I would only accept mounts if way points were removed from all areas other than capitals, because there’s no point in having mounts when we can just teleport all the time.
Which really makes the game boring because teleporting allows us to bypass all the zones in between, A sense of world scale is removed because of this.
If I were to choose between mounts and teleports, I would choose mounts just so I would need to travel through different zones that I ventured in when completing the story, I see no reason to visit those zones anymore.

The problem is in this game, we cannot control the boss fight, no tanks or healers so basically is comes down to survival and keeping the boss in combat until defeated.
Sounds cheap, not structured and silly compared to other MMO’s successful dungeons/raid system, But apparently they are working on it.
This is all experimental atm ya see.

@ oldgrimm
I like your idea Oldgrimm
Well I notice this game enjoys creating large creatures which cause problem, for your idea and hopefully this doesn’t conflict with the stubbornness of the fan-boys above.
But how about a defense event, Giant scarecrow or pumpkin on rampage in queens dale becoming a zone group event?
with mechanics also, It could have adds like little walking jack o’lantern that are attacking a town, along with a success = loot or defeat = loss of the town until recaptured. There have been similar quests to this.
random things like this I find interesting and I bet my friends would log on to fight this and defend the town.
Use your imagination.

So basically. Gear plays no serious role in this game due to the ability to complete the story and exploration modes in low end gear.
Which means future content will remain at 80 and would only release gear that has visual appeal with balanced stats to compete with current gear-sets.
Along with story and other minor content additions (such as pets or items purchased from store.)
Guess its a wait for the next bit of story then.

@ Fred fargone
I’m sorry, I don’t really understand this vertical vs horizontal definition, Could you explain please?
@cesmode
Pretty much at the time of researching the game I looked into the basics such as group events and professions, crafting, races, A lot of the footage I had seen were large scale battles with many players battling larger creatures which I assumed were bosses, In dungeon or out I really didn’t care, It looked attractive at the time. but It seems that those “bosses” were really just quests mobs and events which are actually more interesting and challenging than zhaitan himself.
And I also was looking for anything to support instead of wow, Played the game for years and it’s not what it used to be. I have memories of the Burning crusade days and it has gone down hill from there, World of daily craft now and I wanted to support something that I could encourage my friends to come across and experience with me.
They enjoyed it, Just the endgame wasn’t enough, Just have to wait for more content.
I would rather give my money to arena net instead of a monthly subscription to a company that doesn’t care about us.

Yes I will agree with the OP.
The endgame wasn’t really what my friends or I were expecting, As Ameepa stated with the “Traditional raids and better gear tier after tier” was pretty much right on the money as to what we were expecting.
I understand that this isn’t wow but it’s a system that works and people enjoy working for, all my friends have already reached level 80, attempted full exploration and have returned to wow for endgame content in mists of pandaria, mainly because they couldn’t find something to keep them playing.
We were actually surprised how the endgame of Guildwars wasn’t really there and that we couldn’t find a reason to work for gear. In our understanding we should be obtaining this gear to become stronger in order to take on tougher foes, and being that the zhaitan battle was completed so easily, We asked each other as to “what now?”
PVP and world v world are options but the benefits all go to the PVE world, but if the PVE world has nowhere to go(such as tougher bosses and higher level gear, something to work for) then the benefits don’t really profit the higher levels and only helps the leveling areas. really makes no sense.
So atm, my friends are off playing wow and I’m on the forums every so often to see what’s happening.
I take it you’re not referring to the lions arch portal at the spawn waypoint in WvW?
else
If we could return to our original position from where we signed up, there would be no reason for the Portals in lions arch to be there….
Wouldn’t that Introduce spies?
Unless you can only join World V World servers that you’re main server aren’t versing.
Fishing = An activity that doesn’t involve attacking or being attacked, This game needs more activities like this.
If this were to be added, I am hoping for something a little more than the standard -throw line and wait for the float rig to move-.
I’m not a fan of way points.
my main MMO has always been World of warcraft and I feel that mounts were a good addition to the game because it added content, options, a choice to go faster than your normal running speed, it also added character and uniqueness.
When flying mounts were released it was all exciting at first but after awhile I felt that the world was getting smaller, areas that I would normally need to travel through I could just fly over.
I feel that way points are very similar to that. Arena net has made a very large scale game that is actually Built to scale, we don’t have miniature sized versions of big things like wow has all over the place, and that is awesome… but…. how do we see it if we are teleporting all the time? At least in games with mounts you would need to travel and view all the effort that the designers put into the scenery, traveling from A to E you would first need to travel and view B, C and D.
The above is really something I don’t understand, They make a game that is completely “painted and hand crafted” as stated in one of their videos and yet they allow us to bypass all of that effort instantly.
I Understand that a lot of people strongly disagree with having mounts in this game because some other game (Wow) has it, and that “we don’t want to be like every other MMO”.
That’s good and all but thinking like that will reduce your options for future content, Just because one game has mounts, skill gaining trait/talent trees, raids and so on, doesn’t mean we have to limit ourselves to what we can have.
It’s like having 5 flavors of ice cream and because 4 of the flavors were chosen by other people, we need to choose the last flavor because we want to be “different”
Would you really deny yourself the flavor you enjoy just because someone else has it?
Yes it sounds stupid, but it makes sense.
I would very much Like waypoints to be removed from all areas other than main cities or limit the amount. Doing that and adding ground mounts/transports will add a different perspective and a larger scale to this game.

I agree.
The award system for effort really isnt good andThese questions are always on my mind.
Why do I need to kill players to get badges?
Why do I only get XP for using my supply to build?
Why does it feel like i’m the only one buying siege weapons?
Why do I revive everyone and noone revives me?
Why did I just use a treb for the last half hour taking down a wall and get nothing for it in the end?
Why am I spending money on keep upgrades when noone else is?
Why dont I get a loot bag for (healing, buffing. shielding) assisting players in general who are killing enemies?
Pretty much the answer is that, you dont get anything for it so what’s the point?
I agree that there needs to be a WvW currency / reward point system that will encourage others to purchase and contribute to the effort. Therefore putting in more effort to gain effort.
I think any Idea that introduces "a harmless way for something new and fun " is a good idea. Small things can make a game very addicting, Just look at facebook and all their mini games that people spend hours on everyday.
The Instrument idea sounds very much like what LOTRO has and during the time I was playing, I did notice alot of players performing in main towns and I found it very amusing to watch.
I think it will be a nice addition to this game (If possible) because it’s something you can do on your own and dosnt involve having to attack something or be attacked.
