why haven’t they said anything yet? are they waiting to see if this really does anger the community like the flamewhatever armour?
I agree with Palador, either change the buff, or remove it
and if neither, than remove the pick entirely.
This is extremely concerning.
It’s too bad there are no other threads discussing this issue.
Just like the Cantha thread, right?
But we still don’t see that coming any time soon…
I would post this in Suggestions, but that is in the Archive section, which doesn’t sound good lol
I’m sure I’m not the only one who hates the stuff that gets all over the place when you scratch off the film on the gem cards to reveal the code. It has gotten to the point where I just bend the card and carefully peel the whole sticker off so I don’t have to deal with scratching and making a mess.
Apple has solved this problem with the addition of a pull-tab on the corner of the sticker, so we don’t have to deal with carefully peeling it off or scratching off the film.
I see 2 reasons why it could possibly be profitable for ArenaNet to do this with their gem cards:
1. The amount of adhesive material required to hold the sticker to the card would be reduced, and in the long run, that could mean a slightly lowered cost per gem card (for ArenaNet, as they pay a company to make the cards), and adhesive material would be saved.
2. The strength of the adhesive material could also be reduced in order to avoid tearing the code from the paper, resulting in a lower cost for the material (I can only imagine that stronger materials that hold better would cost more).
Do you see this as a viable move for them to make with their gem cards? I certainly would love it, and it would make getting to the codes much less of a hassle.

I agree with what you have said about how it was very very bad for them to have just put particle effects on human T3, very very very very bad indeed. I also agree that it is about time we get a chance to dye particle effects on other pieces in the game (saying other pieces, because I would rather see the Flamekissed armor be taken down and not put into the game, for obvious reasons)
ya but I can’t imagine you remember every thing that’s in your bank haha. My thoughts are, if it’s already been done for guild banks, what could be so hard about doing it for personal banks, you know?
Just like how we can give little names to the tabs in our guild banks like “Put unwanted stuff here”, we should be able to do the same thing with the personal bank tabs we have, right?
-we could give a bank tab to certain characters for their own stuff, make one for special story related souvenirs, the possibilities are as endless as they are with the guild bank tabs!
So, why not?
Didn’t see that actually, thank you for showing me that!
If for some reason, Arena Net can’t actually implement account bound ranks for a good reason, why don’t they say that?
Why don’t they say that they are aware people want it.
Why don’t they say that they are aware people do not like soulbound ranks and WxP?
Why don’t they say that they are aware?
Why don’t they even say that it is a difficult thing to implement, and like Guild Halls, they don’t want to do it until they find a way to do it that they really like.
Why don’t they say anything?
Why are they completely silent on the issue?

Hey Anet, I love the sound effects video on youtube about how you used that fireball to make a bunch of sounds. It would be so awesome to see more videos put out about how you’ve made some of the other sound effects in game!
send an invite my way!
nah im sure they wouldnt do something like that with the gem store lmao
I have to agree with your points actually, about how it might overtax the game and become too demanding for many computers, but at least like, the sylvari plant lifts in the Grove should be updated.
Also, i like the idea about the ship battle haha, but with air ships of course
As you can see, it’s a little difficult to sit on them. Would anyone else like to see sit-able chairs in the future?
Do you think that the Havok physics engine is underused?
For those of you who don’t know, right on the back of the game box, it says that the game uses the Havoc physics engine. The same one you see in games like Halo, and we all know how much fun the physics there are (flipping warthogs with the blast from a missle, anyone?)
Here is where I see the amazing physics engine being used in game:
-Characters foot position
-Arah story, on the airships
-Super adventure box, World 2 Zone 1, on the moving logs in the water.
-Launch platforms.
And that’s it. ArenaNet, you have this incredible physics engine that you could do amazing things with, and yet, those are the only 4 places where I see it used.
Here are some ways I think it could be utilized better:
-Elevators
+The flying lifts in the Grove could be timed platforms that players can actually get into, and the door could close and take them up, and when the doors opened, players could walk out, which from my observation of that lift, is what is supposed to happen.
+Maybe make an elevator or two in Rata Sum that takes players between levels. So I could catch an elevator down to the next level, and from there catch another one down to the bottom level, something like that.
-Platforms we can stand on that move around an area
If anyone has more ways we could use the engine, please share it! I’d love to make this an ongoing thread of better ways to utilize the awesome engine, for Anet to see!

My friend and I both found watchwork portal devices, the twisted ones that take you random places. After hearing a great idea on Reddit, we decided to party up, make brand new characters, use them, see where they take us, and then try to get back to Divinity’s Reach (being that we were both humans). So, we had a friend countdown for us, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1, ZAP!
The environment changes, I look at my surroundings, and immediately I know I’m in Caledon Forest. I check in with my friend, and coincidentally, so is she. So we meet up in a safe spot, and plan how we want to tackle this place that is totally unexplored to our new characters.
Carefully we tread through the forest, venturing deeper and deeper into the unknown, only aware that we were going north. After slow moving, and careful timing, we made it out of Caledon Forest, and into Kessex Hills, where the only thing we did more than checking our maps, was running away from skales and raptors.
Eventually we made it to Queensdale, and from there it was a walk in the park, and a much need one at that, to Divinity’s Reach.
Opening up the gates into the city, a breeze of cool air swirled around us, like a congratulations present for making it all the way back. Right there at the entrance to the city, we just plopped down and basked in the glory of what we had survived, as well as raged at how much precious money we had spent to revive so many times at the nearest waypoint, which always happened to be behind us, setting us back from our goal every time.
As we laid in the sun, I asked “why don’t we grab something to drink at the nearest bar? A little celebration!” My friend nodded her head, and we trekked into the Western Commons to the nearest bar. The only problem was, we had never really been to a bar before. The environment felt foreign, and really, my idea to go here was just a spur of the moment thing. What made things even worse, though, were the bar stools. Those bar stools were nothing like the larger seats we were used to back at our homes. It was hard enough to just sit in those seats without falling off, but even harder to sit comfortably….
After much struggling, and much squirming around, we finally found comfortable position upon our tiny stools, and drank as we recounted the glorious adventure we had just experienced http://imgur.com/a/utJrp
I was commanding in Gendarren fields just now when the clockwork invasion began there. I linked one waypoint to the next invasion spot for the people following me to travel to so we could keep things moving, as is a standard thing to do.
We finish the next invasion spot quickly (it was just a molten alliance tunneling machine) and I go to link the next waypoint when BAM my message is suppressed. I press enter to type in chat where we are going next, but nope, message suppressed. So I wait about a minute and try again, just a message. Nope, suppressed. So I wait another minute, try to link a waypoint, suppressed again. This happened every single time I tried to send a message.
For 7 minutes straight I was totally suppressed from map chat. Could not send a regular message or link a single thing. I could not keep my group organized because I could not tell them where to go next, and we failed the invasion, making it to battling Scarlet with only 25 seconds left, whereas we were very close to being done before I got suppressed, and things were moving very quickly.
I was not the only commander there, but I was one of only a few talking in map chat linking waypoints and telling people where to go, and that was crucial to finishing and keeping our forces organized, which we couldn’t do efficiently enough, because I couldn’t talk.
This suppression needs to be adjusted, it is oppressive and provides no benefit to anyone trying to help in situations such as this.
I am curious about what living world weapons, armor, etc, will be back on the gem store in this next patch, because I am not sure.
These are the weapons, armor, etc that I have in my mind:
Halloween: a Shield, and I think there was a staff but I could be totally wrong haha
The Wintersday gem store weapons, Fused weapons, Dragon’s Jade weapons, Braham’s mace and shield, Rox’s bow and quiver.
Will any of those be on the gem store? Am I missing anything? I didn’t include SAB because that’s coming back at some point and the weapons can be purchased on the TP, as well as the Aetherized weapons
Update: I was playing fc3: blood dragon, and the nois is happening there too now. but for real it used to not hahaha. In blood dragon, its constant but only like 1/2-3/4 the intensity that u hear in the video
Yoda, I will try that
Caed, coil whine sounds totally different than the noise Im dealing with
abomally, the fan isn’t making the noise. ive turned it up to 100% and no noise unless im in gw2
kyllaa, all the bearings are in well. This issue happens whether or not im overclocked.
All the connections are as tight as i could make them.
The card is XFX brand, got it last week from best buy haha
i have a 520 watt psu
and finally, im not sure what looking at the card could tell you
shouldnt have gotten a screen with only one pixel! :P but in all seriousness i have never seen something like that before, very odd. i would try updating the drivers of all of the components in ur system. you will have to do some researching on where to even find them, as it is a bit of a scavenger hunt to find any drivers that arent for gpus (as these drivers seem to be needed less often, i guess)
(edited by Hofulu.7325)
updated with video of the ticking in OP, to clarify exactly what it sounds like
I tried this with the Nvidia gpu from my dads computer, which is one of the comps that I tested the two AMD cards on. No problems with my comp, didn’t try the other comps as those are comps of my friends and family and it was difficult enough finding free time during which I could come over and test my card out. No problems with my dads comp as well. I’m thinking this is specifically between AMD and GW2
I’m not sure what the specs were on all the comps that I tested on (5 comps, 3 gaming oriented and 2 non gaming oriented, my dads being one of the two gaming oriented), but I know the specs of my dad’s comp. Also, I’ll happily provide my own comps specs if you want.
My dads: 460-watt stock dell psu, intel i7 quad core with hyperthreading to make 8 cores, ddr3 ram, and that Nvidia gpu i mentioned. thats all i know about his, I can get more info if you want.
someone mentioned that this could be noises coming from the capacitors, can you explain that in more detail? it’s an interesting theory
(edited by Hofulu.7325)
the problem is not coming from my speakers. to monitor the noise coming from my gpu, i turned off my sound so nothing got in the way of hearing the computer.
I have checked all of my fans and can confirm it is coming from the gpu. I can double confirm this because, as my notes say, this happens on every computer I have tried it on.
Please give my notes a thorough read through
I have been dealing with this problem for months now, I don’t remember when it started, but I have compiled notes about the issue which I will list here. I am starting to get a little fed up, and after a second round at seeing if GW2 tech support could help solve the problem, I am still at a stand still. (side note: GW2 tech support is absolutely the most incredible tech support I have ever had the pleasure of dealing with. They were fast, kind, and although they could not fix the problem, they gave it an astoundingly good shot, both times around)
VIDEO:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fXShbhNdW7A&feature=youtu.be
My compiled notes, copy and pasted:
Perhaps the most important note, this problem happens consistently, every single time I try it, with the AMD 13.x drivers. Only once did this issue happen with a 12.x driver (which was during the Personal Story mission where we had to fight the Eye of Zhaitan in the pool where we would cleanse Orr. It happened directly after the cutscene with the king of Orr).
Can be heard faintly while roaming in game. The real problem it’s causing happens when the camera is zoomed in, close to my character, and I use a skill, such as Earth Attunement, Water Attunement, Ride The Lightning, Dragon’s Tooth, etc.
Only happens in Guild Wars 2. Have tested: Bioshock Infinite, Tomb Raider, Deus Ex: Human Revolution, Far Cry 3, Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon, Hitman: Absolution, Planetside 2, The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim, Kenshi, Orcs Must Die 2, Crysis, Garry’s Mod, Trackmania United, Nexuiz, Half Life Series, Star Wars Battlefront Series, Fiesta Online, Rappelz, Perfect World International, FireFall, Forsaken World, Blacklight: Retribution,
All of the above mentioned games had their settings cranked up to absolute maximum: no ticking. In games such as Tomb Raider and Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon, there were slight changes in noise coming from the GPU (not the fan). The ticking I’m hearing in Guild Wars 2 is its own thing, totally not like the regular sounds I hear while playing other games.
Does not matter the computer. Have tried this on multiple computers.
Only happens when shaders are on medium or high. Still happens when shaders are on low, but to a negligible degree.
Ticking noise is faster, each individual tick not distinguishable, when frame limiter (in-game settings) is set to unlimited.
Ticking noise is slower, each individual tick distinguishable, when frame limiter (same as above) set to 30.
Seems that the fps affects the rate of the ticking. The lower the fps, the slower the ticking, and vice versa.
On my XFX AMD HD Radeon 7770 (purchased from Best Buy), this ticking results in screen going black, and the monitor goes into sleep mode, and becomes unresponsive to my moving of the mouse. Computer becomes unresponsive, although still on, with all components still running as if nothing had happened. Must do a hard reset to get the computer back up and running. The in game music and sound fx continue to play normally as well when the computer and screen become unresponsive, as if all I had done was turn the monitor off while the game is running.
On my XFX AMD HD Radeon 7850 (purchased from Best Buy), this ticking does not result on screen going black, though as far as I can tell, the ticking is equally intense.
My original hypothesis was that this had something to do with voltage and wattage. However, I have tested this theory on multiple computers with varying psus of varying wattage: stock psu, Dynex brand, which leads me to believe that wattage and power is not an issue, though maybe I’m still missing something.

Nope, just go to the Portal that has an Arrow pointing down Symbol, it’s not that hard… The 300 Gem Ticket is just for some VIP Zone I have no idea of and I don’t really care much about.
Sorry, I should have put a comma before the mentioning of the vip area. I mean to ask if the Crown Pavillion, the under section where the six different places are, and the vip section, are all going to be temporary.
Is the entire Crown Pavillion, its under section that fills the space the big hole had made, and even the royal section only accessible with the scrolls from the gem store all temporary? Because if that’s so, that would be absolutely mind-bogglingly saddening.
So I’m playing an ele, dagger in offhand, and when I’m zoomed in close to my character when I use certain skills like Ride The Lightning, or attune to water, I get this ticking noise in my gpu, it sounds like a moth or some big bug flapping their wings. This noise follows the intensity of the visuals on my screen, so when I attune to water, for example, as the bubble of water from the attuning animation gets bigger and fills the screen more, the slightly louder and louder the ticking noise gets, and then as the water bubble dissipates, the noise decreases.
I can also hear it ever so slightly just when shaders are on high and I’m roaming around, and I’ve tested all the other settings, and it only happens when the shaders are set to medium or high.
Also, it’s moreso when its on high than on medium, and I pretty much don’t get it at all on low.
Really you can make Staff work with a variety of builds. For example I often times use staff for WvW on my 0/30/0/20/20 spec with PVT gear (same as from AC) with Divinity Runes and Emerald Jewelry with Charged Quartz Gems slotted. Works just as well using D/D or S/D as well. For PvE I tend to use the same armor, but then swap in Berserker (Ascended) Accessories instead on the same build.
I mean really if you look at a lot of people’s builds most of the stats they run are about the same. If Divinity runes are too expensive then Rubies might be a good fit and give you (more or less) similar results.
If you’re more interested in super support time, Evasive Arcana (30 Arcane) is always solid if you use it for Water/Earth. Unfortunately I was not a fan of it for PvE as many encounters it forces you to dodge roll which could end up wasting the cool down on the ability. These days I’d probably go more 0/20/0/30/20 for support staff in dungeons.
I’m really looking for something that I can support myself with, something that will make me hard to kill.
I’m trying to make a good staff build for PvE, using the AC gear that has power as main stat, and toughness and vitality as the two minor stats
Topic.
I’m trying to make a build where I am strong and can survive on my own, can output a good amount of damage, and be able to take alot of hits and survive.
Rata Sum is filled with little places to go and halls and all kinds of neat places, but only the first two floors of the city are really utilized. The third floor, the bottom one, and in my opinion the coolest one hands down, is a ghost town. I am literally the only one down there at all times when I go down just to admire how cool it is down there.
This doesn’t have to be top priority, but some added things to do, maybe NPCs, whatever can make the bottom level of Rata Sum more lively, and make people want to go there, would be awesome, especially for people like me who love hanging around down there.
While you’re at it, maybe take a look at other places in cities that are ghost towns?
I think all the cities could use a little umph to be honest, and lessen some of the lag in LA! :P
This is not a hate thread, just to clarify that before we get started haha.
Now,
I messaged Mr. Chappelle on soundcloud about a week ago complimenting the work he’s done, and asking how he makes his music, because I myself am interested in becoming a producer (of any genre I can figure out haha). He messaged me back (which I appreciated beyond measure), and mentioned some basic things about their equipment and techniques. I messaged Leif back, asking another question, but he has yet to respond.
I’m not trying to call him out or anything, but Leif, if you’re reading this, I’d love to continue our discussion! Not because I plan to try and take your jobs in the future haha, but because I’ve always wanted to produce the kind of music you guys make, and I’d love to know your techniques, since it sounds like I might be able to make the same kind of work right in my own home, where I make stuff on my computer.
Thanks!
Good to hear you’re enjoying it all! I’m on vacation atm, but as always, can’t wait to get home and start playing
I remember playing in WvW alongside you, man, and now I wish I got to know you better. You have my complete condolences Palu, stay strong.
Excelsior
That’s all I know of too hahaha.
I dont mind if it takes some things from the MMO cliche book, but I want it to avoid the major annoyances and failures. Cluttured screens, world isolation, a reliance on cash stores. So far so good though. I feel like I can enjoy the view, I dont feel like I am stuck somewhere and cant explore, and I havent spent a dime since purchasing the game. Been playing DCU, and I am reminded of many of GW2’s imrpovements on the MMO genre.
That’s how I feel too. I like to try other MMOs that are either new or that I used to play to see how they are now compared to when I played them, and I say with great confidence, GW2 has yet to lose the shine that keeps me addicted, and I think it’s largely due to the fact that Anet did not make their MMO like others on the market, because the typical market formula right now is aimed at lazy , entitlement addicts who want rewards and no game, when really, people are slowly starting to shift from that, and back into the group of people who want to play a real game, where they have to try hard, figure things out, and actually play to, well, play.
Hopefully, Anet continues in the direction they started. I said “almost perfect” in my OP because it is true that in little amounts, Anet has gone a bit in the wrong direction, like with how atm, they’re giving a little too much information in their event previews, kind of spoiling some of what we like to discover and find for ourselves. But, as long as people with their heads on straight exist, Anet wont let us down
“bad if they do, evil if they don’t…”
@ProphetOmega very well said.
I think it’s very good to have content previews, for the reason stated above, to keep people informed and wanting to come back, but I also agree with others who say that the content we are shown is too much before the event even goes live.
There is a fine line between not enough information and too much information, and it is not easy to find that nice middle ground, but I think if we continue to voice our opinion about it, Anet can find that middle ground
GW2 has its own little niche in the MMO world. It’s nearly perfect to me: all the lore, the beauty, characters, story, gameplay everything about the game is amazing, and it is a very unique game. I cherish this uniqueness, this decision by Anet to take the road less traveled, and be different. But I have been very nervous, even since launch, because of all the people who came to GW2 looking for things that they thought were supposed to be in every MMO that they didn’t find. I’ve seen people try to rally support to make Anet “fix” what is “missing” or change what is “stupid” and/or “unnecessary,” and honestly, I hope these people find interest in other MMOs, because I don’t want them here, and neither does anyone else who came into GW2 with a fresh, clear mind, not tainted with thoughts of what an MMO is supposed to be, or what it’s supposed to have.
A response from Anet assuring me that they will continue to develop their game completely in their own, unique image, whether it be with maps, more lore, story, features, classes, skills, you name it, would make my day
You may call me crazy, and yes I’ll admit not everything a dev will do will be perfect, which is where constructive criticism is embraced. But there is a fine line between constructive criticism and someone trying to change the game to their own image, and lately, I’ve seen a lot more of the latter, which makes me very sad, and lets be honest, the latter is not what made GW2 the number one game of 2012, or what continues to make it so successful. So those people should can it, go somewhere far, far away, and let Anet work their magic, like they’ve been doing
Just my two cents for the day lol
HD 7870 here, i haven’t had this issue but i’ve heard of it, are you guys watching temps? I remember a while back tons of 7870’s where having issues with temps where the fan profiles where all wonky and causing BlackSOD
Also how did you uninstall the older drivers. ATI and Nvidia are kitten when it comes to their uninstallers they leave TONS of left over config and .dll’s leading to conflicts out the wazoo.
I’ve checked the temps of my card multiple times while in game, and ran multiple stress tests at the highest levels of stress I can set it too, and my comp has come out no higher than 70-80 degrees, and I’ve gotten it to 90 degrees before just to see if it lived and it did, no hitches or drops in performance the entire time it was up there, which was hours. My system is fine.
To uninstall, I first go to the uninstall a program page and uninstall the CCC, or whatever is there that I can uninstall, then restart, then open up Driver Fusion, and delete everything that it finds (I have premium version so it gets rid of everything that it finds, unlike the free version). Next, I go into Windows Explorer and find everything relating to AMD on my computer, and delete everything there too, if anything shows up, and if it can even be deleted.
I have the same exact issue recently and its driving me insane, only I"m using nvidia card.
what card do you have, Alyssa?
If you don’t mind, would anyone tell me how I can revert to the 12.4 driver for Windows 8 64-bit? I have the exact same card and problem and I’m sick of playing on my laptop.
I found this page: http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/windows/previous/Pages/radeonaiw_vista64.aspx
But I’m not sure because it’s listed as Windows Vista, and there’s a few more drivers before 12.4. Is this the right link?
Windows 8 and Windows Vista are two completely different operating systems, and since the page only says Vista, I’m not sure those drivers would work.
HOWEVER, whenever a new driver has come out for Windows 7, it has actually been a driver for Windows 7, Vista, AND 8 when it came out, so, the drivers for Vista that are on that page that you linked may in fact work for Windows 7 and 8 AND may even be the exact official Vista/7/8 drivers that came before the 13.x drivers.
So I say we try them out :P
I 100% totally remember that this problem started directly on the day that I got the first 13.x driver, which was 13.1, so maybe the entire line of 12.x drivers still work. I just have the 12.4 driver because that’s what is on the CD I have, and I didn’t know the previous drivers page even existed haha
First, if your computer is not directly connected to the modem in your house, connect it directly via an ethernet cable. Next, restart the computer. After that, if you are running Windows Vista/7, go into windows explorer, click on Computer in the left hand side, and type in gw2, or guild wars 2 into the search box at the top right (it should say “Search Computer” in italicized letters) , and let it find anything on your computer that has to do with that, and if it finds anything, delete it all.
If you don’t have Vista or 7, then do the equivalent on whatever OS you have (OS meaning the operating software, like Windows XP, Apple OSx Snow Leopard, Apple OS 6, Android Jellybean (lolz), Windows 7, Windows 8, etc.)
then try installing, and tell me if it worksI mean sir i’ve been downloading the game like hours and its 10% suddenly power interruption occur for 1hour, then i was thinking that “hope gw2 has the capability to continue the previous percent”. The power came back turn my pc on and i stock at 0% again. Hope gw2 admins has the solution to put pause button to the gw2 launcher so encase of turning the pc off you can pause the gw2 launcher then continue the download later.
i know what the problem is, and im wondering if maybe its because there is a problem with the files you already have installed. maybe thats not the problem, but it is still worth trying my suggestion, and if that still doesn’t fix it, then tell me
i will be trying it today, but the problem started with 13.1, and 13.2 beta didnt fix it. 13.4 beta didnt fix it, so im doubtful that 13.5 beta will fix it.

So I have an ATI Radeon HD 7770. Went from 12.4 driver to 13.1, so excited for a new driver, only to start getting that black-screen issue, where randomly the monitor will go into sleep mode mid game, I can’t get it back on, just off and back into sleep mode, and then I have to do a hard-reset. So, I spent a while with Anet Tech Support, who I must say were absolutely mindblowingly amazing in how fast they responded and how hard they tried to fix the problem. Alas, nothing worked, and eventually, I got the idea to switch back to the old 12.4 driver, and all was back to normal. So, the new 13.4 one came out as we all know. I got it hoping it didn’t have the same issues with GW2 as 13.1, but it does, so I’m back to 12.4 until this is fixed, and I’m wondering, how come it still isn’t fixed?
13.5 beta doesn’t work either, and apparently, this is happening with Nvidia too??
(edited by Hofulu.7325)
yeah, this issue needs to be brought to light, even more than it has been it would seem.
This issue started happening to me when I first installed the 13.1 driver. I’ve found that any drive before the 13.x series works like a charm and everything is back to normal. I discovered this problem more than a month ago, and to see it still happening is very saddening
