Legendary is nothing but a gold and time sink. The price for mats is insane, getting a precursor is a major pain, clovers are all RNG – all for something that is basically a skin.
I don’t see the point. And I refuse to waste time chasing after these.
you will never satisfy everyone. i, for one, thank you for the loot chest. i ran into a lot of bugs, lag, dc during the entire weekend event and never got the final loot so this gift was appreciated
attended, lagged to death, did not loot – got a chest in mail yesterday. appreciated.
tend to agree. i have 2 80s and there is nothing but grind to look forward to – karma, gold, fractuals, w3 tokens – its all a massive grind fest. oh well – got my $s worth playing up to this point.
If gold was cheap this would be a big deal. Gold is very expensive. I suppose some people have enough $ to buy gold from an outside seller but I don’t know anyone willing to throw this kind of $ around.
these guys are a waste of time unless they are part of a DE with a payout or chest. I do a lot of events in Orr with 2 80s – often you get a white or a blue if you get anything at all. I’ve also had normal NPC undead types pop and get caught in the melee vs a champion, get nada from the champ and a yellow from the normal NPC.
The loot tables or the algorithms or the RNG – 1 or more of these are badly designed or are broken.
I’ve been in 3 total since launch. I pre-screened 2 of the 3 extensively before joining.
First 1 – very restrictive guild rules, always required to be on vent when online, very sensitive to anything said in guild chat. It did not come across this way during my review of the guild which says it is “family” oriented, but it got pretty absurd. People stopped using guild chat for fear of getting PM’d with a nasty message from an officer. The final shoe dropped when some of those on the “inside track” within the guild were allowed to get away with “drama” in vent and in guild chat while those who were not “insiders” would get a guild kick for any similar offense. Eventually I stopped caring about the guild, lashed out at them for their nepotism, and got kicked. Who cared at that point.
Second 1 – OK guild but on a server that was in the midst of dying (Henge). Severed ties when I leapt off that fail server.
Third guild – open, friendly, over 400 members, always doing groups – good guild, no BS.
So – the article is partly right but some of this comes back to the player – do your homework on a guild before you join. And if you learn they are full of it – move on. There are some really good guilds out there but you need to research them.
My main never had any use for karma gear due to the stats so I equipped with exotics from crafting. I have no desire or will to go for a legendary so the hundreds of thousands of karma on this toon are wasted.
Some of my alts have builds that would benefit from karma gear. But of course, the exotics in Orr are bind on acquire so you need 259Kish karma to equip a set.
I’d like to be able to gift my alts from my main either with a direct karma transfer OR allow us to buy gear and make it account bound versus BOP. I don’t feel its realistic or terribly fair to have a bank of several hundred K of karma on 1 toon who don’t need it while my ranger is karma poor and could only afford 2 pieces of gear. Grinding out 170kish more karma on this single alt (let alone my other 4 alts) is a drag.
Annoyed by my options with Ranger pets. If I have a pet out in a densely populated area like Orr it becomes an agro magnet. This is due to the pet walking as far as about 10-15 feet from where my toon is, causing mobs to attack.
The only way to avoid this is put pet in guard mode. Which is a pain in the backside. Even if attacked the pet won’t respond when in guard mode so I must control every thing it does while also trying to fight my own toon. If I have it attack an NPC and there is a mob it will attack the single NPC until death and then I must instruct it to go after the next guy. Pet mgmt would be enhanced if guard also included defend within a specific radius of the player so that the dumb pet would go from NPC to NPC during the fight.
If I take ‘guard’ off during this process I risk the pet once again wondering off and agro more mobs into the melee.
Prefer a better pet mgmt/control capability.
Prior to the last couple patches I never had issues with DC (aside from Lost Shores events), lag (same), or game crashes (same).
Since Lost Shores release, and the several patches since, the game is less stable. I am getting DC’d couple times a day, lag in the Orr zones, and occassional client crashes.
No – it is not my system. I run a high end 64 bit system and have made no changes since pre Lost Shores.
No – it is not my internet. I have a massive DSL pipe with very high speeds and nothing has changed. I am not seeing any performance issues on any other app or game I run, and if it was the IP or a bandwidth issue this would not be the case.
No.
Paying enough for repairs and travel costs as it is. Why would I want to kitten myself further in lowbie zones? The main reason to go there is to farm crafting mats that are priced way above value on TP. Its already a drag to waste time in these zones just to level crafting. Now you want to make it easier to be ganked? No thanks.
Yes to bug fixes please.
Yes to new content please, but make it fully baked. No more special events which are unplayable or broken (like all the NPCs in phase 1 of Lost Shores), no more partically developed boring islands with no worthwhile reason to visit them.
Not everyone loves jumping games.
Not everyone is good at jumping games.
Not everyone has a system and connection that cater to jumping games.
And yet the game is full of them. I view this as faux difficulty in place of more interesting content. I’d prefer to see far less of them.
Keep the JPs and the special events – reduce the # needed for something simple like map completion. Some of the required jumps to get a vista are a royal PIA for those who hate this mechanic.
I am playing less because:
1. I have 2 80s and 4 other alts in-between level 2 and 46 so “been there, done that” for the most part.
2. I have world explorer already on 1 toon and no incentive to repeat this on my other toons – in particularly because of the PVP POI, WP, and Vista requirements. I am on Denravi and we no longer have a PVP presence, so there is no good way to collect these without a server transfer. Now that server transfers are for a week minimum – no thanks.
3. No incentive to grind to a legendary. I have exotics now so meh.
4. No incentive to get on the gear treadmill with FotM – I’ve played FotM some and its fun the first several times but after that – just a grind really.
5. With FotM out there are fewer people running old dungeons now, and its not like the loot there was anything special anyway aside from skins. LFG without a tool means sitting in LA spamming – no thanks.
6. Lost Shore island was underwhelming – explored it all, no incentive to return.
7. DEs – been there, done that, and loot drops are still meh.
8. W3 – not into it, especially on Denravi where all the W3 players left for SOS. It was fun first couple of months, but after that its more World v Wall rather than real PVP since everyone just hunkers down in towers and castles and hammers you with siege while you bang on their doors. Gets old.
9. sPVP – do not like the way this was implemented (versus Rift and other games) where you are forced into a cookie-cutter build that is foreign to your normal build and playstyle. No – thanks anyway.
10. Lack of confidence this game is headed in the right direction after the horrible Lost Shores event (aka the Lag Monster and no loot for many while others got precursors) and the addition of ascended gear.
OK, can we remove or adjust DR now? Some of us with level 80s have only a few places to farm (sarcasm mode) and would prefer to be able to collect mats for crafting without being forced to change zones every hour – its not like we have much choice of level 80 zones.
Whiteside said they adding more fotm style dungeons. Something is showing them that they are successful?
This.
FOTM system is great, rewarding, fun and gives dungeon a longevity they don’t have in any other game.
If they’re adding more content following this mechanic it means a large majority of players loved this absolutely.
Sure, 100 people in a forum can be more noisy than 1 million in the game, but I’m sure Anet has their ways of knowing the satisfaction of their playerbase.I don’t care what the doomsayers say, they are wrong.
The game isn’t dead, isn’t dying, isn’t killed or being killed or nothing. Nothing of all this.
Servers are full and many, GW2 is a success, but it will never be every single gamer’s cup of tea.
The law of evolution says evolve or die, so I say adapt to GW2 and it’s path or quit; there isn’t much chance of Anet accepting the complaints of a 1% while the 99% is happy.
Couple weeks ago the majority of servers were Full. Today there are only 5 listed as Full. I see no evidence of load balancing across all servers (not seeing a massive influx of new people on Denravi) so I suspect load balancing does not account for this – more likely players have departed, freeing up space in the servers that had been shown as Full.
GW2 is fun and I am still playing it, but I doubt your optimistic appraisal of the game’s condition at present. I do believe players have left after seeing what Lost Shores did (or did not) offer. Time will tell what happens next. With new games coming out quarterly – will this game attract new blood and be able to keep current player base?
Spin: FotM is wildly successful – look at all the players doing it!
Fact: Its the only way to get the new flavor-of-the-month gear so – yeah, ppl are doing it for fear they will be undergeared for the next content release and/or the next gear set (if we see one) on the treadmill.Spin: FotM is equally open to all.
Fact: We are rapidly seeing an aging effect here in that a lot of the population has progressed well up the FotM chain. Those who still need to start at level 1 or 2, for example, have a much harder time finding a group. This is totally unlike the prior dungeons and is fracturing the player base. The only way to grow out of this is if more players reach the necessary level or alts are run through FotM to create a new wave for level 1.Spin: The new content release was a success etc.
Fact: FotM has made all other dungeons irrelevant aside from achievement oriented players. Its much harder to find groups at all interested in running this content now as the token grind for exotics is worth less than the token grind for ascended, so if you are going to invest your time – ppl are opting to queue for FotM and the other instances are ghost towns.Atop all this – a majority of the zones in-game are devoid of players. Its taking much much longer to down the 3 dragons, and many DEs are totally ignored at this point. The loot drops are not good enough to incent players to play these aside from those who simply love DEs and play them for grins and the small payout. None of the items you get are worth having when the goal is a legendary and/or ascended items.
IMHO – the game has taken a turn down a treadmill road that is driving people away. With Rift Storm Legion the flavor-of-the-month ( and Darkfall, among others, around the corner) I fear we are in a mode similar to that seen in The Secret World – a small loyal fan base who will play forever while the game struggles to attract new people and to keep others who don’t want the treadmill.
So wait is spin any thing you do not agree with? That a very bad way to look at life if you do it that way too much you will become comply alienated from most of the pop. see president election.
It cant be a gear thing treadmill as you put it if there only going to be 2 set put out over all and one of the set all but the weapon is out and the other set only rings and back that we know of is out.
“Spin” is what group A says about a given subject. This may include Anet and the official message regarding Lost Shores and FotM. Think of it like this – a GM car ad for a car that has a horrible track record in Consumer Reports but the GM ad says “Look – shiny”. Also similar to the last election where 50% of the people stupidly voted Obama based on bogus promises and despite his record.
How can you possibly know what the future holds in terms of gear and vertical progression? You suggest that we have seen the end of it – in my opinion thats a bit naive. There was never supposed to be this vertical progression in the first place, but now that its here what makes you think we won’t see more of the same?
I still play the game. I have no interest in ascended gear nor am I actively trying to get any. I do play FotM for pleasure and dungeon design – but thats the extent of it. Do not assume my initial posting means “That a very bad way to look at life if you do it that way too much you will become comply alienated from most of the pop” – simply calling it like I see it. If the game prospers and lots of new people come in and the current base stays – then they made the right call. If not – well, then perhaps it was the wrong call. Based on what I see in game we have a dropping player base so something is off.

‘0’ overall. Horrible lag, NPCs all bugged – worst special event I have ever seen from a modern MMO
agree. group of us took down a champion yesterday – and of course we did it twice because these guys reset to full health on their first death… most the ppl got no drops, my lvl 80 necro got a worthless blue. 1) I thought anet said they were improving drops, especially for vet and champ? 2) a meh blue not worth anything after a 5 min or so fight… if thats all these guys will drop no point in fighting them
finding the new island a bore – gank mobs who kill fast, repop fast, have more attacks than I can possibly dodge, and drop trash. spending time and silver, not seeing any return on investment. its like anet knows people will consume the new content quickly so they purposfully made it over the top … if there were decent rewards then fine, might be worth it – but seriously – not a single yellow and most mobs drop grey or white if they drop anything at all. so far – not worth playing at all imo.
same for Denvari
Pastkeeper Saballa still broken on Denravi – sits on a cage, rescue event won’t start, dialogue is not helpful nor related to Lost Shores, no way to get instructed to go find objects or turn them in to her.
Playing the game is a huge time sink. Saying something takes to much time in a video game is completely ironic – because that’s the entire point of a video game. To be a time sink.
And once again, you guys realize it’s purely optional right?
I thought the point was to have fun? Silly me. And Anet has now realized players are not into time sink dungeons because there is no real reward – drops are trash, token loot is no better than crafted. So – they decide to force us into them to get the monthly … Anet realizes 80s are getting bored and time sinks are the hope of keeping players in-game buying gems and such, but this is a fail decision.
Improve loot and players will come. Don’t force it on us with a change no one wants.
force the player base into an un-fun time sink for meh loot… great.
this game is really losing my interest with all the bots, these types of changes, bugs, DR code which makes it kitten to farm mats needed to actually craft anything of value…
Anet realizes people are going to run out of content, so dungeons are designed to be massive time sinks. Thats all it boils down to.
pretty much. time consuming silver sinks for meh drops and worthless tokens for gear no better than what you can buy off TP or craft (exotic level).
“Token system for gear no better than crafted.
Incorrect, many dungeons sets have stats that are both desired and unobtainable through crafting.”
My crafted exotic gear has identical stats to what I can get with tokens. Anet designed it that way. Your facts are in error.
Posting pointless threads about how you don’t like dungeons because it’s pointless to your personal goals are pointless. Seriously, give actual constructive criticisms that devs can use instead of pretty much saying that dungeons are not your cup of tea. There’s enough of these threads on this forum.
Dungeons don’t do anything worthwhile for you? Don’t do them…
Try this – the instance mechanics stink. Boss fights are unimaginative and are designed around massive HP pools or gank mobs versus interesting fight mechanics.
Token gear is no better than crafted.
Loot drops off mini-bosses are nothing more than vendor trash or salvage bait versus anything useful.
How about more interesting fights versus boring high HP tank and spanks? How about better loot? How about better boss rewards?
so many noobs and their “bu bu but its too hard and i’m not having fun” lol go back to your Wii Fits. If the new dungeon is rewarding i want it to be hard as ****. Twice as hard and longer than Arah! Sado-Maso is needed in gw2.
What makes you think it will be rewarding? The others are not. Loot is junk, token gear no better than crafted.
Given dungeon sets are really all about “looks” I’d like to see generic dungeon tokens versus dungeon specific tokens. This would allow a player to run a variety of dungeons to collect the tokens needed for the sets which are only going to serve as skins.
It would be far less boring than running the same instance over and over.
As an 80 its to the point where I won’t spend my time running a place like AC, CM, etc. because that armor is, in my opinion, ugly and not what I want for my necro. The only 2 sets I like are TA and Arah so I run those over and over… yawn.
With generic tokens I’d have much more incentive to run all the instances knowing that the tokens can be applied for any skin set I desire.
On SoR it got to the point where people were griefing at the tower trying to make players fall off. An event this hard to complete, this big a time sink, which also invites players to actively grief others – no thanks.
I’d be happy to never see an event like this again. The “your attitude is great” line from above is silly – any time a fail event leads to griefers you know there is an underlying flaw. This is supposed to be a fun celebration, not a grief-fest.
instance runs are a huge waste of time and $ for garbage loot. I refuse to run em anymore.
i rather prefer the more fun-type events in WOW versus time sink events like carve 150 pumpkins or gather 100 tort bags etc.
the point of complaining about it – its not a fun event, its just a grind and a bore. Don’t sit there and tell me you had fun carving 150 of these suckers.
I am looking for fun events, not boring mindless time sinks. GW2 was supposed to be above all that mindless drek.
more truly fun events, less grind. If I have to cut down 150 xmas trees or open 100 xmas presents I am going to go postal.
you want the achievement? Yes – you gotta carve em. I would hope for better events than grind 100 tort bags, grind 150 pumkins, etc
So – when exactly is Anet going to send out the retroactive goodies for story mode completion? I could have sworn I read postings saying it would be done by now.
Remember the “I swung a sword” video? Yeah – carving 150 pumpkins is wicked fun…
pretty much agree with most of this.
wvwvw is a mess
dungeon runs are not rewarding
bored at this point
3 green items
none of which were usable by my profession
gee – thanks
Sorry but not impressed.
Farming candy corn gets old
The maze has no purpose other than farming
The inquisition is nothing more than annoying pvp
The special device you get in LA that needs candy corn to work does not do much aside from eat candy corn
The drop rate for trick or treat bags is horrible
Crafting items can not be auto deposited to your bank like normal craft items, wasting bag space
Clock tower jumping puzzle – won’t even go there in this review
Not seeing much fun in these events – very grindy, same old thing with massive mobs running around and pulling you to them or knocking you back (same mechanic as in Orr) – nothing new.
Gets real old real fast. And when you complete something – no real reward.
Some may have fun with these – I did not.
Twice today I have completed something (personal story and one of the halloween events) and zoned back to pve world only to be immediately swarmed and ganked by NPCs.
In the case of Arah – went in and completed story – when I exited the instance it turns out the area is now contested and I was totally ganked by NPCs I could not get away from. Had to eat a Teleport fee and a gear fix fee FOR NO GOOD REASON OTHER THAN POOR DESIGN.
Anet really needs to do something about these types of transitions.
getting into Arah on SoR last week+ has been an issue. Zone is seriously bugged and bots are glitching things every time server is reset. Gates to Arah have been closed for quite some time with no chance to start the event to get em open as its broken.
@Rizzy.8293 – your argument is illogical.
1. Dungeons are open to all at the appropriate level, so even if the instance loot had better stats it would be available to all who completed the instance.
2. Yes – reward for time spent is good. I can’t see the fun in running the same dungeon a dozen times for tokens knowing there is no reward at the end.
3. Outperform… see point 1. Also you do realize that anyone who crafts their gear can outperform those who rely on drops and have gear below their level right? Likewise anyone who makes $ can buy gear and outperform those who are poor. This is NOT at all like WOW and pvp purple gear which allowed pve players to outperform as you well know.
4. Skill based game… lol.
5. You want cosmetics – by all means knock yourself out. The hours of grind in an instance, for me, are better spent leveling alts or playing wvwvw.
I am working on alts because:
1) Shores is mostly broken and the DEs are not working correctly
2) Arah is closed and has been for over a week due to glitches, bots, and bugs
3) W3 is broken due to server imbalance, hacks, free transfers, and boredem doing the same thing every week
4) Can’t complete personal story on my 80 due to #2 above
5) Dungeon runs are a bore with no tangible reward – nothing I get will be better than what I have and I could care less about skins
a long grind costing many hours and much silver for repairs should be rewarded. cosmetic skins for gear … not a reward in my opinion. Why sign up for a cost sink and a money sink for gear no better than what you have?
To those who feel their valuable game time is worth cosmetics – more power to you. I see little value.
1. Things like a special halloween event are somewhat required – WOW, TSW, many others do this. Failing to follow suit sends a message to the player base regardless of how you feel about these kinds of events.
2. In these types of games which devolve to a somewhat boring grind after awhile the special events are part of what makes things fun.
3. The defects are likely at the design level and hard to correct without massive rewrites and many hours. The bots are glitching things on a daily basis so not only must they fix bugs they must also fix them in a way that prevents the bots from simply glitching the new code. Apparently this is harder than we can know given bots are getting worse and anet has known about this for many weeks.
I think if a quick fix was available we’d have it.
1. Been SoR since day 1
2. Lots of new guilds and players have come here for whatever reason
3. Tired of people crying “hack” every time SoR gets a lead. Even Yaks last week – after they were caught hacking orbs – cried “hack”
4. W3 design is bad as we all know
5. Anet is the only one who can address point #4 but I don’t really see it happening as it probably means a complete redesign
6. Stopping free transfers may or may not have a beneficial result. Those who want to transfer will still do so.
7. A lot of bots in w3 just as everywhere else in game impacing queue times for all
Sadly – regardless of recent SoR wins (I remember when we lost every week) I don’t find w3 rewarding or enjoyable the way it is today. And I get tired of the petty name calling and accusations without legit proof. That and the long queue = I am not bothering to play w3 much at all.
