It seems that as the weeks progress, these matchup threads become increasingly vitriolic and mean-spirited. I think it’s a shame because I don’t dislike either SoR or JQ as opponents.
I know. The question I keep asking myself is whether or not you really believe it or if it’s just part of a political campaign against Blackgate. I’m hoping for the latter.
If people leave BG the entire wvw community is imploding. If BG maintains a strong PPT over a holiday it’s because people are trying too hard and everyone there is an atheist. If BG’s scores are not “regular” then the score volatility will destroy morale. I guess BG just can’t win.
And didn’t you know BG always has drama between guilds? Didn’t you know BG’s community is terrible and everyone who plays on that server just hates one another?
You can’t believe someone from BG if they tell you different. They’re just trying to cover it all up.
I almost prefer culling to what we have now. At least with culling the opposing server couldn’t hightail it the first chance they saw someone. I’m so tired of looking at the backsides of the JQ and BG players.

It’s impressive, and I love that it’s not D/D. But really, 1v1 fights in WvW? It’s a nice display of what the build is capable of, but if you’re going to show off solo ability, then lets see some 1vGroup.
I don’t think it’s really much of a 1vx sorta build.
Well, then I have to wonder really what the point of making a build for 1v1 is when going into WvW where most of your fights are NOT going to be 1v1. Sure, you can find those kinds of fights if you go out of your way to look for them, especially if you troll around in the JPs. But even then you’re going to often run across small groups of 2 or 3. What then?
Like I said, it’s a very good showcase of what the build can do, but anyone can make a highlight reel if they spend enough time and cut enough footage. Vids like this give a very misleading view of what actually goes on in WvW.
It’s not just good in 1v1s though it’s also really strong in group fights.
The video just showcases the spike damage potential of the build.
I wish people would get over this zerg thing. This is what WvW is. How many times have you seen in history a castle taken over by 5 people? Usually it takes an army and that is what is going on. If you want small group fights go play S-PVP. I for one like the large fights, just makes it feel more epic seeing two large forces clashing with one another.
It’s what WvW tends to be but it’s not what WvW always has to be. People choose to zerg or not to zerg. Everyone has that choice. I often choose to run around solo or with a small group. I don’t take any castles but I don’t care.
That being said I have been known to participate in and even enjoy large fights but only in small doses. I usually get bored with it after an hour or two. I don’t think the fights develop the sort of skills I actually want to develop.
If sPvP/tPvP were more to my liking I think I’d spend a lot less time in WvW.

I don’t think anyone is actually leaving. I think certain people say the same stuff over and over again as a form of psychological warfare. It’s a smart tactic but I don’t buy it. And I don’t know what all this “solid community” talk is all about either. What does that even mean? People log on and they play the game. Same as any other server.

So what are people thoughts on the culling fix in terms of combat. It’s obviously great being able to actually see your enemies but has combat been less or more interesting/engaging?

I have found the game to be unplayable for me on anything but the lowest settings though.
Lowest settings aren’t bad though. I have a PC that could handle a higher setting but I put the character quality on lowest because it just gives such a higher framerate. I have the character limit on highest but the quality on lowest and I couldn’t believe how smooth the battles were. It was 100x better than it was before. I personally don’t care what people’s gear looks like in WvW so I don’t mind at all that the models are simple colors and such
I have everything set to lowest and I agree, the higher framerate is definitely worth it. I can live with the ugly graphics.

I’m not a big fan of zerging but I have to say I really like the culling fix. If I want to zerg I know where I can find the fights and if I want to run around solo I can usually avoid the zergs. I did get rolled over a few times today but that happens.
I play elementalist and have done so for the past several months so obviously I’m particularly partial to elementalist. I usually play d/d when roaming and staff when doing larger fights.
I put 1100+ hours into my mesmer before making the switch and I can honestly say that I’ve never really looked back.
Is it the game or does this matchup just seem boring now?
I dunno I’m kinda getting bored of the game in general. There are a number of reasons but the main one is that I just can’t think of anything I personally want to accomplish anymore.
If the coming update does what it should, I for one won’t be surprised to see both JQ and BG gone from Tier 1 long before SOR. At some point aggregate player skills, not numbers, have to be the differentiator between winning and you can’t really call what’s happening to us now losing.
JQ has a lot of good players imo so I don’t think you should be counting on “aggregate player skills” to make all the difference.
I think all this nonsense from some BG and JQ players simply stems from the fact that a third place server it is simply better at combat. All 3 servers know that and there are enough players on both servers to even admit it. Talking about been defeated by zergs and such while bad culling in place it is just a poor excuse for actually getting wiped.
There should be no hard feelings. You have better coverage and ppt around the clock which secures you the first 2 places.
You really think every single player on SoR is better at pvp than every single player on BG and JQ?
I think there’s some truth to what you’re saying, particularly about the base hit points. I’ve never tried it but I imagine it would be pretty tough to run a d/d ele with 12k hp. As time has gone on I’ve incorporated more offensive-based gear into my build but I still lean mostly towards defense just because it leaves me with more margin for error.
When this culling patch comes out, with or without the other W3 changes, there is going to be a huge influx of people on every server that will log in to check it out. I am curious as how that will effect all the matchups.
Me too. I’m also hoping that they add WvW ascended gear soon because I think that will be a big draw for current WvW players and maybe even people who haven’t done WvW as much.
Yeah I don’t think anyone’s leaving though I can’t be entirely sure. There’s no way that I know of to obtain that sort of data in-game other than by asking the guild leaders themselves. I also don’t know of a way to monitor day-to-day server population (the number of people logging-in serverwide) and/or day-to-day WvW participation. I hope those sorts of services are put in place in the near future as it will make a lot of this “2v1/we’re outnumbered” etc nonsense much easier to deal with factually speaking.
T1 is so funny, last two weeks SoR farms kills rather then ppt and everyone claims we are wasting our time not playing ppt game and need to drop a tier, this week SoR goes for ppt and now everyone is complaining because we apparently don’t bring the fights, and are constantly double teaming everyone forcing guilds to stop playing? I hear PvE is nice this time of the year BG.
