<Player looking for a team>
Ingame name: Isræl
Main Class / Potential Classes: Ele/Mesmer (Main) Engi/Thief (Potential)
Region: East Coast NA
Practice Times: 9AM-3PM everyday except Sunday
Experience: A lot of hotjoins and some tournies. Currently R41.
Other (Anything else that you would like to add): Looking for an sPvP/tPvP guild as much as a tPvP team.
They are criticizing WM for not playing their timezone (SEA) and they are instead playing other timezones (EU) in an attempt to avoid competition. It has nothing to do with overtime.
If their goal is to effect PPT as much as possible with the least possible effort then it would make sense to attack wherever there is the least resistance.
I think that the long term survivability of t1 WvW really depends on even matches where the winners go back and forth. I played an Elyos in Aion for a long time and the game basically died on our server because we dominated the Asmodians so much that most of them quit the game. That’s no good. I don’t know yet if the addition of IRON to SoR will make SoR the new king of t1, it’s too early to tell. But I hope it just makes the tier competitive every week.
You mean WM doesn’t even play in their timezone and plays in EU instead to PvD and avoid competition.
Gotta hit em where they ain’t.
SoR’s morale appears to be high right now, I think they think they can win. They might be right.
Yeah who cares about winning, just have fun.
Plus, he said he will GvG some guilds but not others. It’s obvious he likes GvGing but is making an excuse about certain guilds he won’t GvG.
Sounds like a respect thing, does that not make sense?
Like if someone asks me for a duel I’m not going to duel them if I don’t like them because to me a duel is a friendly thing.
I think this might be SoR’s week to win t1. Obviously I’m rooting for my server though. Hopefully we can keep the wins going.
Congratulations to all the BG players/guilds who worked hard this week.
I can’t imagine people actually paying gold to transfer into such a situation and continuing to come out for weeks and months to PVDoor and look at an all green map.
What I have noticed is that player turnout for any server always seems highest when their server is winning and lowest when their server is losing. Anecdotal evidence I know but perhaps others have noticed the same thing.
Personally I think the pvp is always better in the Mists anyways.

Yeah ascended gear too of course. But PvE has unique skins added all the time, WvW hasn’t had any since game launch. I liked Warhammers trophy system where you could buy little trinkets added onto your armour like on your shoulders or chest. And there was a lot of them so you looked more unique.
Yeah I think you’re right, WvW could do with some new skins. I never played Warhammer but that type of customization definitely sounds interesting to me.
I’ve been dying for some unique WvW only skins that make you truly look like an invader. The invaders heavy armor looks terrible.
Yeah that’d be pretty cool I guess. I’d like full ascended gear though. Weapons, armor, trinkets, the works. Would give me something to work towards. Also I agree that the current wvw skins are awful.
All they need to do to keep me interested in WvW is introduce some gear to grind out. I don’t really care much for the wxp ranks or the zerg meta or whatever.
The sheer amount of head scratching about the recent nerf to ELEs on this forum is mind blowing. You guys really are in denial.
It’s not just the nerfs to mobility and healing that really bothers me it’s also the complete lack of significant buffs to other weapons/utilities leaving cantrips as still being the most useful utilities and leaving heavy speccing into water/arcana still pretty much mandatory. So we’re left with a clunkier d/d spec but not much in the way of more effective alternatives.

I run a few pieces of clerics gear because I like the extra heals I get in water attunement swap/arcana roll.
What they need to do is raise Ele’s base hp or put huge vitality buffs in the fire or air lines so it would be more viable to run bursty builds like Osi’s because right now a 10/30/0/0/30 build with zerker/knights puts an ele at like 12k hp with no healing and that’s just not gonna work very well with d/d but a mesmer can run a build like that and have like 18k hp and be quite effective defensively because of the classes’s access to stealth, clone generation and the active defenses on the staff and mainhand sword, not to mention portal which Osi makes good use of in these duels.

I have thought for a long time that every game benefits from outcome uncertainty. It’s nice to play a game knowing that you could win or lose depending on how any number of things play out. I think it’s boring when the winner is known before the game is even played. That means things aren’t even to begin with and that’s no fun imo. BG might go another six weeks without a t1 win or win the next six weeks in a row but the knowledge that BG can win shows that t1 might be becoming less lopsided and I think that’s something to be optimistic about.
I have a lot of respect for all the BG guilds who put in the hours last week. Should be fun being green again for however long it lasts.
You guys have been collecting funds to help us get members over (they been farming too) but we won’t be profiting from the transfer if that’s what’s meant.
I see. Well I think you guys have done a great job this week and I’m happy that you got some help transferring.
I dunno if we paid for the new transfers or not but either way I think we’re very fortunate to have them on our side.
I’m not sure if we’re talking about roaming but if we are I still like Ele a lot. Thief and Mesmer seem to be in a relatively good place as well, I’m currently leveling a thief.
The patch made me have to reexamine my ele spec but tbh i think it’s still really strong d/d and staff. It also helps ele that confusion got nerfed since that was probably one of the best counters to ele.
(edited by Israel.7056)
Staff is pretty awesome with power builds though. Especially with the Illusionary Elasticity trait. Phase Retreat clones can do a lot of damage.
I agree but the wonderful thing about this game is that it’s fairly easy to level and get exotic gear for new toons. I’ll just shelve my ele until they add some changes that make me want to play it again and learn something new in the meantime.
Yeah I agree, if I’m going to be shattering I’m going to be running Illusionary Persona and Deceptive Evasion. I see them both as being essential for my shatter builds.
Welcome to Blackgate I hope you guys have fun here.
People usually like to talk about “viability” I prefer to think in terms of optimization. I think Scepter mainhand confusion builds will still be viable in WvW in the sense that one could run them and probably get some kills but I do not think they will be optimal considering the reduced damage from confusion. Obviously in sPvP/tPvP nothing has changed.
I personally recommend submitting a ticket. The support staff helped me out when I did the same thing.
So the devs should never try to balance the game?
It is after all very likely that the flavor of the month build is the overpowered build, so of course it will get nerfed.
If people are stupid enough to spend loads of time/money/whatever to get gear that only works for that very specific build that is their problem, not ArenaNets.
This is a false dilemma. It’s entirely possible for the game to have ongoing balancing and for the ascended gear to be more easily grinded so that people can more easily switch classes/specs, in fact they are complementary not antagonistic in nature.
I also don’t think people are stupid for playing whatever is the strongest build at the time for their respective class.
Just stick to “your” class. Why drop it only because it got less effective? For what reasons do you play a roleplaying game?
I can play anything I don’t have a class. I play whatever I think will be most effective because that’s what I like to do. Why does this matter?
The issue isn’t me or my reasons for doing things the way I do them, the issue is with the time it currently takes to acquire new sets of ascended items.
Indeed, this is really only an issue if you decide to follow the flavor of the month. If you just play the way you want instead of which way is the “best” (and in most cases they are actually not the same) you would not really get effected by this.
I have all ascended pieces except the back-item on my Mesmer at the moment, and yet I do not scream and complain about them changing stuff in the meta, since I don’t build around the meta but rather build around what I like.
Well I like to play the meta builds and I don’t think there’s a problem with that. I think that this game should be more accommodating to people like me. I don’t really care if you agree or disagree, I’m more concerned with what the developers think.
Screw the META, just gear up a build you like and stick to it. METAsheep annoy me to no end. I main as a HGH Pistol/Shield Engineer, the meta is to use grenades but i have more fun without: yet i will still tiny dunk you into yesterday.
SKILL>meta builds.
I doubt that. Not that it matters.
That is still farmable. Just over a longer period of time.
Well the time required is really the issue here. I’m saying it takes too long to acquire ascended gear given how frequently the meta gets changed due to balance patches by the devs.
I thought it already was? I thought that was why everyone was running Fractals over… and over… and over… and over… they were getting multiple sets of ascended gear?
To my knowledge only the rings and backpiece are available through FoTM and the rings are either acquired through random drops from the daily chest or by exchanging ten tokens for one ring and you can only acquire one token per day much like how you can only acquire one laurel per day.
I am also enjoying the non-toxic forum environment.
Buy an ascended amulet that has every stat on it like zygery and stop worrying about min/maxing every single point for your build.
In almost every other MMO, your stats are ALL that matters. In Guild Wars 2 a lot more matters than pure stats
Or they could make it possible for people who want to min/max to do so.
You are massively overreacting. I seriously doubt elementalists will fall apart in WvW or PvE because of the nerfs that are coming. And you can’t claim eles aren’t in need of a nerf in sPvP.
I don’t care if the changes are valid or invalid. I’m not going to argue about that sort of thing, we’ll be here all day and it will just be an appeal to common opinion or appeal to authority argument anyways.
The reality for me is that if the changes that I’ve read about are implemented then I’m going to shelve my ele and either play my engi or reroll to thief until the next big balance change. After reading the ele forum I’ve realized I’m definitely not alone.
I don’t mind rerolling. I don’t mind respeccing. That’s part of MMOs. What I mind is being unable to acquire ascended gear at the rate that I’m having to respec/reroll.
Ascended gear isn’t available in sPvP so that’s irrelevant to the discussion.
Well I personally enjoy a mild gear grind. I was very excited when I found out about ascended gear but I’ve been equally frustrated trying to get ascended gear at the rate I’ve had to respec/reroll.
I’m not going to argue with people about what the game ought to be. That’s clearly a waste of time.
This is a thread I’m hoping a dev will read and at least consider for the future.
This is why I stopped playing Mesmer months ago. Every patch is nerfs without anything in exchange.
I’m not entirely sure where to post this but I suppose this is probably the best fit.
One of the things that I’m sure many people are noticing is that as soon as they get ascended gear that fits their current spec, that spec is either getting nerfed or something else is getting buffed necessitating either a complete reroll or just a respeccing of that character.
This annoyance is compounded by the fact that it takes a significant amount of time to acquire ascended gear.
For example I recently spent all my laurels buying ascended gear for my ele only to find that I’m probably going to be much better off in the near future either playing my engi or rerolling to thief (not sure yet I haven’t read the notes.)
I find this unacceptable and I’m sure many people are just as frustrated as I am.
My suggestion to Anet is to make Ascended gear farmable so that the rerolling/respeccing process won’t be so frustrating.
Thanks for reading.
This is a false dichotomy, there are more than two options.
If I were a betting man my money would be on DB winning t2 this week.
One solution would be to drastically reduce downed state health in wvw. It’s annoying to have to basically kill people twice and often have enemies do as much or more damage while downed than they did while up. DPSing downed people to full dead takes way too long imo. Stomps take too long to channel and often require the use of stability/stealth/invuln cooldowns to succeed not to mention that certain classes have downed states that require several tries (thief/mesmer.)
(edited by Israel.7056)
I think this is an interesting idea but to be perfectly honest I’m more likely to move servers to play with people I respect than to move servers play against people I respect. That’s why I moved to FA.
Well I had fun on my first week back in t2.
I think there needs to be more game modes not less. I like the 8v8 it’s good for farming rank points/glory.
Buying rings with Laurels?! Seriously? If you run fotm lvl 10 ten times you’ll have enough pristine relics to buy yourself a ring. Also if you try to progress each day you should be @ lvl 20 after 10 runs. You can easily get from 2 to 10 in 1 or 2 days by puging lvl 10. Then try to always pug higher lvl than you currently are so you progress every day. Afer 10 days you should be able to get 1 pristine relic from tier 10-19 and 20-29 and from this point you can get 2 pristine relics per day. It will take you 15 days to get both rings if you’re very unlucky with chests..
I don’t run dungeons.
I am really happy for you. :-)
They didn’t mention to change the description? ^^
No they didn’t mention anything about changing the description to me.
Today I received the healing signet from Anet support as a replacement ring. Thanks to Anet for helping me out. I really appreciate it.
I agree there should be a warning of some sort. But just about every game out there uses Unique to describe an item you can only equip one of.
You made your mistake and learned from it. I doubt you will buy 2 of the same unique items again.
Yes I learned from the mistake but I don’t see why I or anyone else should have to go through this process just to learn this lesson.
I have never seen the word “Unique” used to mean what it means in this game and I play a lot of video games, this isn’t my first MMO either.
The real question in my mind is whether or not Anet is ok with this happening to people. If they are then it doesn’t really matter what I have to say. If they’re not then perhaps they’ll implement some sort of in-game consumer protection.
Seeing as you didn’t know that ‘unique’ don’t go together, and the fact that you used Laurels to get your rings. I’m assuming you don’t care about Agony Resistance, hence….
I’ve learned that to infuse one of them I will have to run FOTM up to something like lvl 20. I’m at like…..2.
