How would you not catch the wave? Teleport out?
A good point. It doesn’t have to return all the way back. It can subside beforehand.
Although, even if you’re guaranteed to touch it, then the skillful part is still there. Where to touch, so the next wave would’ve the best affect.
Moreover, there’s another option. Breaking down the skill into two parts. The going out wave, and the returning wave. If you manage to catch the first going out wave, then another going out wave is created. This second going out wave doesn’t spawn another going out wave if you catch it. Or maybe it could if it’s balanced.

Intro:
In this topic I will voice my thoughts and ideas about the Chronomancer’s Off-Hand weapon, the Shield. It’ll revolve around making the Shield skills feel better to use while also filling holes left by the Mesmer.
Parts of the skills not mentioned, are not changed. All numerical variables such as; recharge, ICD, damage and duration, will change accordingly but aren’t mentioned here.
Tides of Time:
A circular wave that originates from you. Imagine an asteroid hitting the ocean, creating a tsunami. You’re its center. The wave goes out and then falls back in on itself (To be clear, the wave is based on its starting point. It doesn’t follow you). If you catch the first wave, a second wave is launched where you caught it and then falls back in on itself.
Reasoning: More party oriented support and area control, the role the Chronomancer is supposed to fill. Cooler. Rewards smart play. Cool (Would look as if you’re causing ripples in space-time).
________________________________________
Echo of Memory:
Evade Attacks and Reflect projectiles. This is instead of Blocking (Could be awesome if the animation would send the projectiles flying backwards, as if rewinding. Unlike now where it looks like you’re firing it back yourself).
Reasoning: Blocking one attack is unreliable and weak, especially on a rather long cooldown skill. See Scepter and Sword Off-Hand for references. More survivability, especially since you lose Torch’s The Prestige. Rewards smart play. Fits the theme of a space-time mage.
Shield Trait: Increased boon duration while wielding a Shield. Reduces the recharge on Shield skills.
Overall Reasoning:
When I compare the weapon skills of the Chronomancer to those of the Dragonhunter, I can’t help but feel we’re missing out. Less skills, doesn’t have to mean less overall. Not in capability and especially not in fun and flavor. These suggestions aim to remedy that. We got a GREAT specialization motif, lets capitalize on that!
Summary:
I feel like the Chronomancer could be so much more. Do you feel the same? Tell me what you think. Are these changes good, bad or unnecessary even?
Would be very helpful if you do a ‘Thumbs Up’ / ’Thumps Down’ as a title to your post, to convey your overall impressions. In case a developer stumbles upon these parts.
TLDR;
Tides of Time:
Wave ripple.
Echo of Memory:
Evade and Reflect.
Shield Trait:
Boon duration & Reduced recharge.

I don’t have any interest in wells. I find them lackluster and unappealing.
In PvP I don’t need AoEs. Maybe a well on a downed player, stab/quickness can be of use. However, in general, utilities that keep me alive are king. As I’m the squishiest one on the field.
In PvE I need fast recharging, damage focused AoE. Something only a Main Hand or Two Handed weapon can fill. Either for tagging mobs in a group, or cleave when I’m on my own.
Above all, I don’t find wells to be appealing. They pale in comparison to the Dragonhunter’s traps. Each trap has a unique role, unlike our wells. Reveal stealthed enemies, explode and spread shards that heal, etc. Slapping on some conditions/boons is boring to me, even if they were strong.
Peters and I discussed the chronomancer traits thing today. We’ll try to get something out to you guys as soon as we can (next week at the earliest, obviously).
Thank you very much Grouch. Take your time, we’re in no hurry.
The main issue is, that we would’ve liked to have a presenter that is passionate and well-versed about the profession. Robert was great, and I like Rubi in general. However, she wasn’t the right person to present the Chronomancer.
I think that it’s best, if possible, that all future specialization reveals would be done by the Ready Up guys, and not the POI’s. POI should be more about general features, rather than things that’re related to balance in PvP .
Not to sound condescending, but a guardian is much easier to play than a mesmer. Therefore, it’s easier to balance. Hence, Anet showed the Demonhunter spec line but not the Chronomancer one. I completely understand that. However, why not start with the guardian’s then, is beyond me.
I do however think that we got the short end of the stick, presentation wise.
Don’t show the new specialization with a Dev that openly dislikes the core class! I felt personally insulted.
I have to say it. I love tomes. They’re not useful, but I love them. The main reason I was excited to play a guardian before GW2’s release. Maybe make them more like kits? With some cooldown of course. I would hate to see them go instead of reworked.
4) There wasn’t even a kill in the video, therefore, it’s impossible to judge damage. With the chronomancer you could see the wells pulsed three times before it killed the bug. So you can say, ok, several small damaging pulses with a big killer at the end. (presentation)
That probably means nothing. Before GW2 was launced, we got the same type of videos for the core professions. They openly said then, that it doesn’t represent the actual damage done in game. I have no reason to believe, considering the similarities in the representations, that it has changed now.
New Weapon: The bow – one of the greatest, most iconic hunting tools in the history of the human race
New Skill category: Traps – one of the most essential hunting tools in the history of the human race.
The Enemy: Elder Dragons – the ultimate peril of the world of Tyria. If we do not strive against them with our every breath, all will die.
New Profession: The Dragon Hunter – “I take the tools of the hunter and turn them against the foes that must be fought. For the good of all.”
The name wasn’t picked out of a hat… Its a graceful bit of shorthand both summing up and evoking many elements the profession encompasses.
Great, great post. That’s exactly how I feel as well.
However, if i were to choose a name myself, I would’ve gone with something like Fiendhunter. Has the same feeling while having a broader definition.
That being said, I’m very happy with Dragonhunter and wouldn’t want a Guardian 1.1 name (Knight, zealot, etc.) instead. Which means and changes nothing.
I for one, love the name. They guardian shouldn’t get a new spec with the same theme. It should be different.
A holy hunter, tracking the greatest threats the world has seen, is a great idea that I’m more than happy to see and play.
At first reading the Guardian’s new Specialization, I have to admit, disappointed me. You can read various reasons for that all over this sub forum. However, sometime later, I recalled another holy warrior, with the word ‘Hunter’ in its title. Fiend Hunter.
If playing a Dragonhunter gives the same vibe like the art on the magic card Fiend Hunter, I may play it more than other prof or spec. And that says a lot.

There’re plenty other topics for discussion, criticism and more . Be it on the spec mechanics or the name. This topic however, is about something else. What does the new Dragonhunter reminds you of? Pics are more than welcome!

Well in WvW it’s easier to place a feedback by targeting the offending ranger/projectile user on walls than to have to hand place it, and sometimes that extra second saves lives. Though I would love to have the option of both, being able to insta-place and be able to target it when I wanted.
Well, you could place it on yourself instead. This way, it is casted relatively fast while having the added benefit of using the field for its full duration, if you so desire.
For the PvP meta as it is now, which will probably change, I would’ve made this shatter build:
Domination : 1, 4, 8
Dueling : 2, 5, 9
Illusions; 3, 4, 8
Tell me what you think, I would love to hear your suggestions and thoughts.
I am pretty sure they said it reflected projectiles today?
Maybe he misspoke, but based on what we know, Tides of Time simply absorbs projectiles, stuns enemies, recharges itself and gives allies quickness.
Actually, Robert didn’t misspoke. He said that the shield #5, does in fact, absorbs projectiles. I remember it clearly, since I was quite disappointed to hear that. Though, to be fair, I understand it completely.
