Same thing here…

It downloads 34mb then stops downloading as the speed jumps to 13mb/s which is a lie since its not downloading then it rapidly falls down to 0.

Anet your patcher is trolling. Fix it.

Same exact issue. I’ve tried everything I know. From -repair, to changing the client language and even deleting and downloading the entire .dat again.

PvP Ascended Gear's Unchangeable Stats

Ithamir.5928

Ascended gear’s stats are changeable through the Mystic Forge. Which is great. However, PvP’s ascended gear is an outlier and can’t be stat changed that way. Or any other way.

Is this the way it was intended or a bug? Will there be a different way to change PvP’s ascended gear’s stats perhaps? Has Anet devs been able to comment on the matter?

Thank you for reading this and if you chose to help or comment on the issue.

So mesmers can only output perma quickness if:

  1. They sacrifice all utility.
  2. They’re a robot.
  3. Have another robot mesmer with them.
  4. Both are also perfectly synced.

While tanking at the same time.

As a mesmer that just got into raids…kitten!!! T^T
Back to pvp I guess… -_-

But hey, we got a 6% damage boost to the two weaker attacks in sword auto and a damage boost to our mainly an evade skill that roots you and it’s pve only XD

Mesmer downed skill need tweak or rework

in Mesmer

Posted by: Ithamir.5928

Ithamir.5928

@Fay & @Eliroth

There’re several ways to counter Deception, the mesmer’s down skill #2.
In descending order of effectiveness:

  1. You start stomping and when the mesmer starts to cast Deception, you cancel and start stomping again before the mesmer is stealthed. If the teleport is close, you will stomp them after they’re revealed. If too far, you can teleport to them.
  2. Swing at the air in the right radius. If a sigil procs you got them. Swapping weapons can help immensely. Adrenaline can also be an indication for warriors.
  3. If the mesmer was downed in a small secluded area they will inevitably teleport close enough. Take advantage of that as you see fit.
  4. Aoe like a madman.
  5. Play in lower tiers of pvp
  6. BM with /dance, /laugh and etc.
  7. Play in WvW /jk

Obviously, the #1 way is the most preferable. By far.

Everything being said, I’m not seeing a reason to buff it. It’s pretty strong the way it is. Unless they split downstate between game mods. If so, then go crazy!

Rampage And Head Butt Are Switched

in Warrior

Posted by: Ithamir.5928

Ithamir.5928

In theme, I agree with you. However, Rampage has always been a gimmick (and at one point a very strong one), but hardly suited as the HoT compatible go-to rage skill. Headbutt is now too fundamental and designed to work with other skills. Rampage doesn’t compliment any skills; it replaces them. In practice, I would hate it if your suggestion were implemented.

I suggested making it core. You could still take Headbutt as usual. Nothing I suggested changes that. I’m thinking about future elite specializations and strongly believe that they will benefit more if it was a core elite instead. Only positive can come out of it.

That said, I totally agree with your view on Rampage. That’s why I thought maybe adding its own primal burst skill and making its skills rage skills that have play with the traits may grant enough inner synergy that will make it more fun, diverse and powerful to play.

If you want to be strong, you need to buy Hot, in order to use headbutt #pay2win
+ headbutt is more OP then the couple of seconds of rampage.
Also look at rampage cd, and headbutt cd. Rampage cant win from headbutt yet rampage is to strong for being a regular rage skill. So leave the vanilla skills at the vanilla warrior pls. You will screw up the warrior class with your idea.

I knew this dumb argument that have an obvious treatment will still come up. That’s why I said Anet could obviously balance it. But still it appears. People like you frustrate me.

Rampage And Head Butt Are Switched

Posted by: Ithamir.5928

Ithamir.5928

In both theme and function, it makes more sense for Head Butt to be the baseline warrior elite Physical skill and Rampage to be the berserker elite Rage skill.

Anet could balance the skills accordingly. If you’re worried about that aspect.
This could also include adding a primal burst skill to Rampage. Rampage’s skills could be considered Rage skills and etc.

It would open more possibilities for all warrior builds and will make space for Anet to buff Rampage. #MakeRampageGreatAgain

Positive:

  1. Best map since Queensdale! Beautiful and varied but with an overarching theme, easy and fun to traverse and explore, interesting, great events and varied objectives for each Heart.
  2. Best story since GW1! Gave me flashbacks to GW1. First time I had goosebumps. The most involved I’ve ever been! Good length.
  3. Default Builds (a precursor to Build Templates through out the game maybe?).
  4. Jade constructs are tough and menacing

Negative:

  1. I hate ascended equipment because it limits playing with alts. And this new addition did nothing to remedy this. It’s useless in its current form imo.
  2. The rehashing of old destroyers as “new”. It’s fine, but could’ve been great.

Overall:

  • Best content in GW2. (alongside Queensdale :P)
  • Can’t stress enough how good amazing was the final mission – Dragon Vigil!

So it’s situational power weapon ??

No. What he meant is that you can use it when you don’t care about optimal builds. If you care about being viable in PvP or top dps in PvE, you don’t whip out your GS.

If you really like the theme and enjoy the playstyle, I would only use it in:

  • Story Instances (when not achievement hunting)
  • Open-World PvE
  • WvW Zerg Only

It’s sad but it is what it is.

Signet Chillomancer: Why Not Off-Hand Dagger?

in Necromancer

Posted by: Ithamir.5928

Ithamir.5928

The current meta build on Metabattle for Necromancer in PvP is Signet Chillomancer. It uses the Warhorn.

However, to me (a less than mediocre necro tbh) seems like an Off-Hand Dagger would fit much better.

  • #4 Bounces blind for when we’re focused and transfers condis that synergies with Plague Signet’s passive effect.
  • #5 Aoe weakness for (again) when we’re focused and corrupt a boon!

Does the 2 sec aoe daze, aoe cripple and swiftness really that good? Or am I missing something else altogether?

necromancer held back by thematics?

in Necromancer

Posted by: Ithamir.5928

Ithamir.5928

it’s been my opinion on nearly everything that functionality should always come First before any sort of theme is planned, with every game i’ve played.
this seems to be in the reverse from a design perspective in this game. I wonder how structurally sound bridges would be if they were designed to be pretty first instead of stable.

thoughts?

The classes are built around having specific playstyles, and thematic derived from that.

Necromancers are designed as damage soaker class, rather than a damage avoidance class. That is the playstyle that the class was given.

The problem however is that at higher levels of play avoidance mechanics trump everything else which leaves Necros in the dust.

I totally agree with you. But look at the Warrior for example. Which was supposed to be weak to conditions. How laughable does it sound now?

I would suggest making the “theme” mechanics stronger, than moving away from them. Give Necro more fear and torment . And of course, stability and protection would fit the theme of a “slow unshakable monster” as well.

TLDR; Nerf other classes that are “out of their theme”. And buff existing mechanics that make necro a necro.

gw1 guildhalls had more than 1 path to the lord though. Every base had 2 different entrances. One lead directly to the flag stand and the other one did not.

I addressed that in my second point. GW1’s gvg teams were 60% larger than GW2’s pvp teams. Which is why I suggested only one lane. It would be easier to form teams and will also shorten the queues. Moreover, it’ll make the map more compact and thus more engaging.

PU Nerf

Posted by: Ithamir.5928

Before the June 23 patch PU only added 1s to stealth skills. When they changed the trait system they buffed it MASSIVLY. This nerf was seen coming over a mile away.

Almost everything got MASSIVLY buffed. The power creep was real. So that point is moot. It may have been buffed too much, but it being buffed “MASSIVLY” isn’t actually relevant.

Leagues

in PvP

Posted by: Ithamir.5928

Ithamir.5928

@ColinJohanson:

If PvP is the fastest growing area of the game and in such a good place, why doesn’t it get more content?

In the last 3 years we only got 4 new maps added to the only 4 we got at launch. With one of the original 4 getting removed. 1 of the new added maps is an imbalanced deathmatch and 2 other maps are not played in tournaments for various reasons. Leaving only one of the added maps to see some play and success.

The content that we did get for PvP is via mechanics, such as better matchmaking (from my experience), reward tracks and a better UI. We didn’t get actual new content which is maps. Even the League system, which looks amazing and I’m excited for it, isn’t “new” content. But an extension to old content. We will still play in the same maps we have for years now. The only true new content we will get in 3 years is Stronghold. A game type with only one map.

Another issue is HoTM. We can’t duel before matches now but we got nothing else to do in return. Even though the waiting time was higher before, it feels as long now, since we have almost nothing to do in the meantime. As a side note, LA which is a much larger and complicated map, but it still got some very massive and impressive updates. LA is a popular city where many PvErs chill, HoTM is where ALL PvPers chill/wait to play.

To be clear, I’ve played since GW1s beta. I will never leave. I love this game, this franchise. Even saying that GW is a franchise makes me happy. I just don’t get why we don’t get more maps.

@Skoigoth.9238:

I’m a noob necromancer, in fact I’m not even that. I only play my necro in pvp and even that’s only recently. Maybe that’s why the unblockable clause of Reaper of Grenth sounds so appealing to me. Besides that part, it’s also the longest chill in the game, correct me if I’m wrong.

Imbued Shaman, is where it can be cheesed out the most, yes. But you can do it on other bosses as well. It’s just that most other classes have other, more useful elites. I believe that Reaper of Grenth may be the most useful elite for necros in other instances as well, but it’s far less noticeable than in the Vulcanic fractal to attract attention.

What concerns me the most is Raids. We simply don’t know the mechanics used there. The Imbued Shaman boss seems to me like a “classic” raid boss. So perhaps phasing will have a bigger role than now, and the bosses may use blocks to protect themselves while going through the phases as well. That’s a lot of “ifs” and “maybes” but it seems very plausible to me.

I don’t think that racial skill should ever be the most useful option. ever. But Anet seems to have ignored it for years now, so what stops them from keep ignoring it in the future?

Worried about Reaper of Grenth. Please help.

in Necromancer

Posted by: Ithamir.5928

Ithamir.5928

While the 2 sec aoe freeze from “Chilled to the bone!” is nice, the chill duration is only 9.6 secs and the skill is blockable. Reaper of Grenth when using Reaper spec will provide a 21.6 secs of unblockable chill.

That seems very potent to me. Especially under the type of encounters I described in my OP (like the Imbued Shaman). Where chilling the boss will deny him from going into the same phase/skill again, which can be very useful. Maybe even “meta”. In this particular scenario “Chilled to the bone!” can’t even be used.

Furthermore, right now the cd is irrelevant. Be it 90 seconds or 180, you will only use the skill once during the boss encounter where it’s the most crucial.

I think I may have made up my mind. Viability is more important to me than cosmetic is. Too bad that racials have such a big impact on gameplay. Unless you guys think that Reaper of Grenth will be nerfed… Ahhh I’m so torn.

Hey guys, a soon to be necro here. I’ve tried it out in pvp and key farming before that, and I absolutely fell in love with the class. That said, I have a very important question (for me at least) which will decide which profession I will make my necromancer as.

Is the human elite racial skill, Reaper of Grenth, in certain situations in pve, is very useful and even outshines the class elites? I’ve heard that it is so for example, in the Volcanic fractal against the Imbued Shaman. Since the constant chill is very useful during the bubble phase. Is Reaper of Grenth really that useful there and is it in other scenarios as well?

Furthermore, I’m also concerned for the elite specialization, the Reaper. Since this spec. is so heavily reliant on the chill condition, do you think that Reaper of Grenth would really shine then too or maybe you even already experienced it during the BWEs?

Am I worried about nothing or should I roll as a human? I would really like to make my necro as a Sylvari for cosmetics reasons but if it will make my necro less desirable or competitive in dungeons/fractals/raids, I would be greatly disappointed. Thank you very much for reading all of this and helping me out!

Master of Manipulation May Reveal You

in Mesmer

Posted by: Ithamir.5928

Ithamir.5928

If you use Mass Invisibility under ranged fire, like Rapid Fire, the reflected projectiles will Reveal you. While not as big of an issue as with Mass Invis, the same may happen if you combo a stealth skill with Blink. This may very well cost you the encounter.

I would go further and ask, does Master of Manipulation mirror clause synergies with the manipulation skills? It seems largely tacked on rather than made from the ground up to work together with the manipulation skill category. This effect may as well have been added to any other skill category. Moreover, there seems to be too much of a contradiction between the trait and the skills’ usages and even functions. Sure, it may be beneficial on occasion but in my experience it interferes more often.

While I like the effect in general, I think that with the manipulation skill category it does more harm than good. As such, I would rather have this effect on another trait and have something else in return. As it stands, I would even prefer to have nothing instead.

I’m thinking about using a makeover kit on my warrior. Changing her from the shortest female norn into the tallest male possible for cosmetic reasons, but would it be more hassle than it’s worth?

I’m vaguely aware about the general downsides, such as jumping puzzles. Although I would appreciate your view on the general issues, I’m concerned for warrior in specific.

In pvp, will it block my view of my targets too much, especially if I’m using melee weapons? Which I find the most enjoyable playstyle. Or other issues that I’m not aware of.

Also in pve, will it distract the view when stacking? Or will it be a problem in Cliffside fractal jumping section? Or other issues that I’m not aware of.

Id like to know how many mesmers are not running PU in a PvP environment.

Has anyone got any builds running Bountiful Disillusionment or Chaotic Interruptions over PU in a PvP aspect of this game?

I’m sorry but PU sucks. Here, I said it. With the nerf (“fix”) to mantras you can’t use stealth to safely pre-cast MoD in a middle of fight anymore. Since it’ll be on full cd after exhausting it’s charges. Which indirectly nerfed PU, since you don’t need the extra stealth as much. Not to mention the nerf to Mirror Blade, so your spike from stealth is less threatening.

You assume mesmers have to run Chaos. It’s master and adept traits are bad, unless you run Mass Invis. Which, to iterate, isn’t as needed as before. You’re much better off with Moa or even Warp imo. Chaotic Interruption may be wroth it. I’ve found that it helps immensely in taking down thieves. Which once again, eat you for breakfast (, launch and dinner).

I, for an example, run Inspiration. I can cleanse condis from myself and my teammates. I can heal myself for more and I can mitigate some damage for those around me (Mental Defense). Seems better to me than being able to do nothing for a little more.

Mesmer race and clones

in Mesmer

Ithamir.5928

I have some questions regarding a Mesmer race.
Charr:
Will your clones run on 4 legs too, or not?
Meaning it becomes obvious that you are the real one if you are the only one who does that right? Or does the 4 leg run only happen outside of combat?

You’re right, charrs run on all four only when they’re outside of combat and their weapons are stowed.

Sylvari:
Will your clones glow too? If they dont, than it becomes obvious that you are the real one right?

I don’t have a sylvari to check it on, but I see no reason that they wouldn’t glow as well. You can check it very easily yourself , no need for a forum post about it, to be completely honest with you.

Tricks:

A big part of Mesmer in pvp is behaving in a way that it isnt clear that you are the real one, so therefore these questions.

Maybe the animations of the Asura are most difficult to track because they are so small, making it more difficult to see who is the real Mesmer?

This part of your post is a bit misguided. In a decent level of pvp, no one is confused by clones. And you sure as heck don’t try to act like one. While it may sound fun, it isn’t really a viable way to act during a fight.

That being said, asuras while being the smallest, have very exaggerated animations. Try to move sideways a bit and stop, like we do many times during fights, and you’ll see what I mean.

Other than that I don’t believe that there’re other concerns regarding race which’re specific to mesmer. The bigger you’re the more obvious your attacks become and etc.

Stealth + Withdraw + Shadowstep + Infiltrator’s Arrow + Infiltrator’s Arrow + Infiltrator’s Arrow = God Mode?

You got it all wrong. Mesmer + Viability = God Mode. But don’t you worry, Anet is on it! Not without the support of our own mesmers in this very forum. Who without fail, time and time again, ask for more nerfs. God bless their souls.

All the bads who swarmed the mesmer class due to the updates making them OP and successful without any skill…

I did not have much trouble with most of the bads. They did better than they would before but honestly I think those bads could’ve done just as well playing warriors, mediguards, cele eles, pre-patch S/D evade-spam thieves.

That’s because, fundamentally, every good build in this game is designed to “carry” you some. That’s what makes a good build. People rage about overkill bursts, high mobility, great CC, or lots of sustain and “oh kitten” buttons, and general error tolerance but that’s the foundation of any great build.

Does that mean nothing in the world can be overpowered? No. Far from.

But this “No skills!” thing is a joke. Picking up builds that will work for you is also a skill. Learning a new build quickly, even if you’re not amazing with it, is a skill. We saw folks who spent years getting carried by their profession crying about how an actually-good mesmer build could do that as well.

(My main complaint — that Confounding Suggestions incentivized learning a key-press combo over learning good situational awareness, thereby making mesmers play more like the early days of stupid one-hit-wonder thief builds — was addressed pretty poorly. Alas.)

QFT.

Very well said. I couldn’t have said it better. Although I’ve tried above :P. Kudos.

I’m happy that new players picked up Mesmer for a change! It’s nice to see more people discovering the profession that I love so much.

I hate seeing it only played by a few. Either elitists who only play it because it’s so nerfed that it’s considered “high-skilled” and not newb friendly. Or those who don’t care about being “meta” or the best and play it because they like the style of the profession.

And besides, I’ve been playing Mesmer since GW1’s Beta. More than 10 years now, more than a decade. All the people here love the Mesmer class. Doesn’t matter for how long they’ve been playing.

But trolls will be trolls. Bon appetit.

I hate to break it to you, I doubt this is the end of Mesmer nerfs. PU is probably next and god knows what else (CS maybe?). Funny how the most OP class in D/D Ele got no nerfs.

It’s not surprising at all actually. Here’s why:

  • One profession player base begged for self-nerfs (mesmer) – the other didn’t (ele).
  • One killed fast – the other didn’t (doesn’t matter that it was tankier, cleansed & healed allies, had KDs and had aoe & condi damage).
  • One had a hated mechanic (stealth) – the other didn’t.
  • One was scarce before the buffs – the other was prevalent for years.

It’s not about “adapting”! As a mesmer, I could change builds all I want, the core issue will still remain. The only thing I bring to a group, that others don’t do better, is reflects. No matter what I would do I will be subpar if I can’t reflect. There’s no other option for a mesmer. I wish there was, but there isn’t.

I encourage everyone to go to HoTM and check Mirror Blade on a Target Golem – Light. See how well it does, then come back here and say that the 1 extra bounce was overpowered.

not when you stunned/mesmer is in stealth/4 sec cd skill

Your first two complaints are not about Mirror Blade. They’re about stun and stealth. Your third complaint is painfully wrong. Untraited, it’s 8 cd. There’re two better traits in the same spot of Imagined Burden. But if you desperately want to feel that MB’s cd is OP, then traited using a Grandmaster slot, it’s 6.5 cd.

My comment, was addressed to a guy that saying it is not easy to land mirror blade. In my comment I said that if im stunned,I Cant dodge,if the mesmer in stealth,I wouldnt dodge unless I am spiderman. So it wasnt the stun or stealth complaint its more of mirror blade can get 100% hit chance if the above happens.Comprende?

https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Illusionist's_Celerity do you even know your class?

Illusionist’s Celerity? No one is even running the Illusions line with power shatter. Only condi mesmers in wvw use the Illusions line. Thus, making Illusionist’s Celerity a non-issue with neither GS nor power shatter . I won’t waste any more time on you. You obviously don’t know what you’re talking about, although you pretend to. Mesmer is obviously not your main.

Suggestion:

Use a different class for those levels then, and don’t drag your team down. (Heck, you still have timewarp)

Everyone know’s different levels/situations require different tactics/setups/approaches, etc. So why bring a knife to a gun fight? When you can bring an .50 cal.

Adapt and overcome.

I spent hundreds of gold to gear my mesmer, my main, in full ascended armor, weapons and accessories. I don’t have another character with 70 AR. I can’t just “Adapt and overcome” by changing classes. I shouldn’t be forced to in the first place.

But, it’s only like one fractal level. Which you can most likely skip by playing a higher level that doesn’t have the instability.

Plus you’re talking one build here. The mesmer is not just reflects.

It’s not “only like one fractal”, it’s one instability. It can appear on many different levels. On its own, and with other instabilities.

Plus, mesmer is just reflects. As I said, other than blink and portal, everything else other classes can do better. dps, healing, might, stability and protection come to mind. You name it, other classes can do better. Heck, even reflects can be achieved more easily and more reliably by a guardian. I can’t count how many times floor elevation screwed Temporal Curtain or how many times Phantasmal Warden spawned on the opposite side of the enemy. But it is the best I have, well, until HoT.

From the fractals article: “an instability that…prevents projectiles from being reflected”.

So basically, an anti-mesmer instability. Which would very likely be in a number of different levels.

Guardians suffer too, but at least they have better dps and other important utilities to bring to a group. Mesmers only have niche tricks with blink and portal that only apply in a few instances.

Mesmers choose their gear to maximize their reflects for god’s sake (Assassin/Saphir). Please reconsider this instability.

As fractals is almost the only area in pve that I play, I’m sad and boggled that this is a thing. Mostly sad.

Great, give us more ways to proc Confounding Suggestions to fuel the PvP QQ and bring down more nerfs on unrelated features. Maybe they’d revert Illusionary Persona this time.

Confounding Suggestions has a 5 seconds cooldown. So only one person will be stunned. Most likely, the one you interrupted in the first place.

If I knew for certain that Anet has the technical capability of aoe interrupting, I would take out the aoe daze part. I’m pitching ideas that work within the system that we have right now.
