a lot of things should be changed across all the classes. these dodges are no exception. Mindless broken stuff should be removed from them ie: dash clensing immob and bound being leap finisher. The condi dodge is prty kitteng strong for both condi and power but it doesnt lack counterplay that hard as the other 2.

Removing leap finisher from Bound would eliminate stealth p/p builds, so no thank you. Actually think the three dodges are actually pretty well balanced, in that each fulfills it’s intended purpose as well as the others do their own. Dash is more or less defensive, so the damage reduction makes sense, and vice versa for Bound.

Thoughts on my D/D condi build?

The viper/blazer split works pretty well (I use a an even half and half), just don’t expect a high crit chance. Think mine is at about 20%, maybe a bit less. The extra power is def nice for backstabs, and it leaves enough toughness and vitality to soak up whatever hits get through the evades.

Basi venom is good to carry just for breakbar damage (daze as well). Maybe think about using Mug as an “Oh crap” bailout plus heal. I’ve also found that pairing Withdraw (uninterruptable) as a heal with Adventurer runes works out quite nicely. Plus Krait is a bit redundant with all the extended condi you already have with full expertise and Malice sigils. Maintaining heavy bleed ticks should be pretty easy with caltrops, daggers, and DB all going.

That combination makes it really easy to stay on top of targets, pretty much constantly evading and spitting out condis, then using spider and skale venom as big spikes when needed. Oh, and if you carry a shortbow, be sure to work whirl and projectile combos off your poison fields with DB and dodges. The extra poison and weakness ticks add up.

Other than that, yeah, listen to baba and have fun man. Good luck out there.

I would hate to see an amulet system in WvW. The whole point of it to me is to be able to go and fight other players in a full gear, crazy open build environment. Amulets would destroy that. Also, exotic is generally fine if you can’t get ascended, so I don’t see the problem

Here is the version I use. Useful tactic I have found with this kind of build is to stack conditions off your attacks and dodges, then wait for your opponent to cleanse. After they do, then drop your venoms and stack those on your target. Essentially, you want to force a cleanse, then drop your real big burst (ie steal and venoms) and let them melt. I also sometimes use Infiltrators Signet instead of Shadows and then use that as a false steal to trick targets into popping their resistance or blocks, then use my real steal in my main bomb.

Not sure, but I think it might. Problem I run into with the ele’s is I just can’t get enough ticks going to overcome their eterna-healing. Maybe a power burst with some lockdowns might work better. . .

Hey there, i run the d/d condi evade build.
It seems to counter the standard d/p builds pretty easily.
Staff evade seems about even to me, and p/p can give it lots of trouble if they catch a good burst.

Would like to see a build save switch. They have a similar type system in pvp already (think the preset builds in your build tab), so at least some of the coding is already there.

I don’t necessarily want a switch that swaps equipment, but having a spec build swap out of combat would be great. I think this would be a decent balance, in that letting you hotswitch the skill side of your build without the equipment would allow people to adapt to the situation at hand without being too overpowered (ie, basically running around with 2 or 3 full buildouts at you fingertips).

Failing that, yes, a simple full build swap in cities or home or something would be nice.

I play this build.
Practice landing cc’s right when they come down off the spinning/jumping dagger attack. We are vulnerable then. Also, the build is very weak to other condi’s. If you land a condi bomb, stop attacking. Our condi cleanse procs off of successful evades, so no attacks to dodge=no cleanse.
Other than that, yeah, ranged attacks and not getting baited into chasing with 2 or 3 people is your best bet. We do have relatively low mobility on this build, so take advantage of that. Good luck!

I like the current setup. It allows a strictly solo player like myself to participate in ranked. That being said, i think a 3-5 (or 4-5) player guild team queue in addition to the solo/duo q would be a good idea.

It is far inferior to D/P in teamplay and it takes way too long to 1v1 somebody. And in fact many builds (any ele, meta scrapper, Meditrapper and symbolic DH, condi necro, condi mesmer, any warrior, condi rev, probably others) directly counter condi thief and cannot be beaten by it.

So I had an interesting experience related to this thread and thought back to it. I’ve played Thief for a long time but was dissatisfied with the class so switched to Guardian for the past few ranked seasons. I haven’t played in a while though and I haven’t nearly mastered Guardian yet, so take this with a grain of salt. But I just encountered a formidable condi evade thief earlier today that I simply could not beat.

We duelled 3 times throughout the match and I lost each time. Each match took a while, though, but not that long. . .

I play a d/d evade build, and you are correct, especially about the harassment part. It’s fairly easy to do things like take home, bounce through and bomb out condis on mid, then go far, decap, then tie down two respawning enemies between far and mid, slowing things down, etc. . .

Unfortunately, you are also right about it probably not being good above a certain skill level, judging by the times I’ve run into high-tier players in unranked between seasons and been utterly destroyed.

My hardest counters IMO are trapper guards and condi mesmers.
Warriors, engis, and eles seem to be about even, fight could go either way.
Necros and rangers can be a kitten, because of condi output and range respectively, but are beatable.
I hard counter power revs and thieves.

Here is what I run in PvE. Mostly relies on stacking conditions and not getting hit.

For PvP I use the same build, using Deadeye Amulet, except Mug instead of Dagger Training.

works fine if u just want loot bags in WvW, share when blob groups up move around a little on every share so more random people get a share once the groups go head to head u easily get enough condi dmg done for bags meanwhile u just spam poison on the ground with shortbow.

The instacast is def nice. . . offers wider flexibility than ID imo (i.e. having the option to spread damage or focus, or popping them mid-attack when it seems most effective). Also, in point of fact, I am usually carrying three venoms including basi, not a handful of def utilities. Rely more on positioning and evasion for defense than anything else.

Problem is that putting a venom in the utility slot means that you’re forgoing a defensive utility, so you’re highly dependent on your first burst being high-damage. The rest of the duel requires your enemy to fail to capitalize on your lack of active defenses and general glassiness, the problem with condi bursts is that they can be cleared before they do a bunch of damage, so your enemy can mitigate with a clear and go on the offensive.

That’s why you don’t use a venom in your first burst, as it will probably be cleared. I tend to save the venoms for second burst, after I’ve forced the opponent to burn their resistance/condi clears.

This DA Ammy plus a rune cannot really beat the efficiency of Carrion + Undead (or Thorns). The condition duration means very little when the conditions are easily cleansed or transferred. I’m still scratching my head on what the Devs think players will do with this new ammy. If they’ve made Vitality as the major stat and Prec as the minor stat, it would probably worked out better — basically a Viper with Vit instead of Power.

The duration comes in when you are mixing several different condis at a time, some short, some long. It basically stretches things out so that I always have a good set of ticks going between cooldowns, endurance regen, and ini regen. Also tends to result in a fair number of kills from down- like if I decap and get rushed by 3, a lot of times I can have at least 2 on the ground when team gets there (really great when i time it so they drop right after I go full dead, so no rez).

I’ve been testing with Deadshot Amulet and P/D. The build runs with Krait Runes, Agony Sigil and Torment Sigil (works well with the crit chance on the amulet).

I’m not done quite done testing and refining. It takes some getting used to given the lack of HP compared to Carrion.

I will say that I’ve used Shadowstrike several times now in contexts where projectile hate would otherwise prevent me from contributing damage. If you can maintain about 8 stacks of torment it can tick for around 2k (without vulnerability, boons, or other map specific stat bonuses).

What’s the point of Shadow Arts on this build? Don’t see much stealth access. Not trying to be a kitten, just curious.

I run a p/d build with traps and it quite fun doing well against most classes.

I think it much deadlier than the Ghost thief variant and has all manner of “get out of jail” cards to play. If you get the condition durations as high as you can (mine at 92 percent) you can wreck a number of builds.

When you get durations that high all of the skills on the set become very usable.

As another mentioned it suprising how little condition cleanse some people bring to WvW. Specifically fellow thieves that rely too much on the EA cleanse. (you are not evading when immobed and I am not attacking once those conditions loaded)

What’s a good setup for p/d? Ive been running d/d condi and would like to try something else without having to replace my viper/tralblazer gear.

imo it just needs like + 25-30% damage on #1 and it’s fine.

nah 3 is useless and tbh i never use it because as a thief i don’t really need it.. if i’m stunned i need to evade anyways to get rid of that and if someone is too close i also use my evade to run away. or just simply 5 if i have enough initiative left (which is rarely the case due the high init costs on most of the skills)

3 can actually be quite useful for positioning, especially when you don’t have enough ini to bail out with #5.

I play a condi thief main (so hard kittened by condi damage), and imo the only thing that SEEMS op is the clone/shatter tracking. Dodging or stealthing and getting tracked for a shatter still seems a bit kitteny. Same as with channeled skills.

Kite with shortbow, try to throw as many whirl and projectile combos as possible with your SB4 aoe, use daggers to burst out tons of bleed damage, evade everything. . . simple

Not great for team utility, but at least the 3 venoms give you an option to add condi/cc pressure to your party, and basi venom is great for tearing down break bars.
