I prefere the celestial theme to a more typical nature theme but claiming celestial is a nature theme because planets are natural is the same as saying Engie is nature themed becuase he uses wood and metal he dug up from the ground to make his guns.
I’m going to quote myself on that:
Nature is just stuffs that are not manmade.
Engi creates stuff from nature, but he doesn’t use it, he uses manmade stuffs and tools.
I have to admit that I wasn’t pretty sure of what he was doing. I wouldn’t have bet on a ranger becoming so good. Good job to you, and your team, Irenio
(basically a repost….)
Its not that its wierd that Guildwars 2’s Druid has a lot of skills that are Sun, Moon and Celestial themed (these Celestial bodies are part of ‘Nature’…Heavenly or Celestial nature I guess….) but its a little out of place that there are two skills that are plant based, and almost all of the traits are plant/earthly nature based, only like two or three of the traits are really named the same way as the weapon/glyph skills.
There could be more cohesion in the naming at least.
I… actually have to agree with that.
What bother me the most is the confusion with the armor set that has the same name.

Also, why SOLAR beam (staff one) is white-blue? It should be golden yellow.
yeah our star is yellow, but some are blue :p
Oh right, I heard it before, but have forgotten it ! Good call, I’ll try to remember it next time.
Doesn’t affect the fact that some stars are blue !
I agree with the guardian’s tome, the poor guys are fuming about that right now.
Now the ranger doesn’t really look like the D&D one, it looks more like a mashup of a Warrior and a Ranger from GW1 (just like the guardian is a monk/paragon, etc…).
I mean, it depends on the ruleset you take, but before 2.5 D&D, the ranger didn’t even have a pet, he could only temporarly charm a wild animal.
Here, they got a magic bond with a pet.
Now if you want to go deep in it, even in D&D, the druid has a celestial aspect, with the moon and tides.
(edited by Kehlian.4380)
Real life druids actually studied the stars. Even the celtic religion (that does look a lot like the viking one) use the celestial bodies, and the rest of the universe in their religion. (I’m from Brittania, and love the lore of my region so I studied it a lot)
The fact that this changed is because of monotheist religion. Christianism to be precise. They tried to include the pagans’ customs into their own religion to ease the conversion. They used it, and deformed it into their own point of view to accustom the pagans and make them good christians without having to slaughter them.
So I agree with you, Electro, but this is (unfortunately ? not even sure that’s a bad thing tbh) the original sense of the word celestial, and it fits perfectly to the druid.
yeah our star is yellow, but some are blue :p
Also, when you enter celestial form, you see an animation of planets orbiting around your character. Also, you are made of stars.
Also, I misspelled (sorry I’m not english native) it’s not astral body, but celestial body.
I see that on the forum atm.
Guys… What is more nature than planets and astral bodies ? I mean nature isn’t only trees and leaf, you know, it’s all the particles that surround us. Including astral bodies like the moon, sun, planets, etc… All of that is nature.
Nature is just stuffs that are not manmade.
So yes, the celestial avatar is still nature based.
2min, and then they go on another topic
Oh well that can be nice too :o
Hey !
I’d see the druid with minions.
As I seem to understand, each elite spec takes a “skill tree” from another class, alongside with a class mechanic from another class.
I’d see the druid with necro-like minions. Little spirits that follow him and can activate a skill. Necro has that, Guardian has that.
What do you guys think ?
Alright, thanks !
Hello there. I don’t know if the question has been asked before, as there is a huge lot of posts.
I wanted to know if the personnal story of the character will have an impact on the HoT story, or is it some past stuff that won’t be used anymore ? (I want to know because I wanted to create a new char, and maybe wait until I know how some stories happen before chosing a path)
Oh well, I must have changed my traits, thanks !
I seem to recall that our F2 virtue had a passive effect of +15% vigor. I can’t find it now, is it gone ?
i prefer LoW on more defensive/sustain builds (cele hybrid /Soldier) for the shorter cd and cast time + additonal 4 sec fury and 2 condi cleanse (instead of 1 from shelter)
shelter is way better on any ofensive/burst build to prevent focus
Litany is definitely a very solid choice for Medi Guard now. With Monk’s Focus and Smiter’s Boon, you’re looking at a 5.6k base heal on a 1/4s cast time with a 24s cooldown, and that’s not even accounting for the 6 seconds you have available (covered by 8s of fury) to deal more damage to gain more healing.
Shelter is still a good heal, but the block really isn’t as invaluable as people seem to think. Just play smart and you’ll do fine without it.
Thanks for those inputs, I’m feeling the same about it, and hoped I wasn’t the only one (which would have meant I was probably wrong)
Also, not to mention that LoW beeing a medi, and smite condition too, LoW gives 4k hp to nearby allies, this is a hell of a support skill
You seem to have quite a few misunderstandings about a few skills.
Firstly the trait Smiter’s Boon works with any heal, so Shelter also procs Smite Condition and gains 4s Fury and an extra 2k heal.
Meditations do not heal allies.
The Fury that Meditations grant is shared with allies within a 240 range, that’s all.
Not the heals.
kitten I thought medi healed allies too ! In that case it would have been interesting, since shelter would have only protected you, and a bit of heal to your allies, as opposed to LoW that would have healed all your allies.
Yeah that’s why I’m asking ^^’
Hello there !
I still have my first day’s Tome of Influence. I still wonder what will it become after HoT update, if I don’t use it ?
It’s not terrible, it’s less oriented on your self DPS, or your self survival, but you can actually help your party and allies with it with some sweet control, projectile blocker, and protection
Stuff that aren’t on your self improvement seems to be despised by the “meta”, I don’t know why
Renewed focus is 3s of invulnerable, so it can’t even be cast-broke. I’d say it’s pretty good too
What about Renewed Focus ? It also renew your virtues and heal people around, along with giving you some sweet fury
Also, not to mention that LoW beeing a medi, and smite condition too, LoW gives 4k hp to nearby allies, this is a hell of a support skill
It’s already pretty powerful, especially against zerker, and condi builds.
As a guardian, there’s a way to be const retaliation.
Damage scale from user’s power, so the more power you have, the more damage you reflect.
I think it’s the lights weapons you throw, your sword hits at 130 range, but the projectile going from your weapon are 600 range. They have to actually hit something in order to deal damage.
I’m not sure though
Alright, I know the crit rate seems low, but it is actually higher than you’d thought, thanks to Radiance spec (+15% crit rate on sword, and +10% crit rate on burning ennemies, plus high fury uptime, which means around 82% crit rate on sword, and 67% on hammer). The build is made to keep the ennemy burning as long as possible with condi duration and burn duration, while still beeing able to take and deal damages and grant a fair amount of support.
I took the shield for the “Shield of Absorption”, which saved me and some friends a fair number of times, allowing res and preventing flagkill by pushing ennemies away. I know it lowers my DPS, and takes away some burning duration, but the protection, and control are worth it, imo.
Now I see people saying focus might be a better support off-hand, I disagree. Focus is a great defensive weapon for yourself only, while shield is more party oriented.
Now I still hesitate between Merciful Intervention, and Judge’s Intervention, one is a good support, while the other deals long-lasting burns. Both granting mobility.
The cast-time of litany is 1s less than Shelter.
I understand the need for block, that could counter almost a whole burst, but it also has a higher CD :/
I guess that block is more useful for PVP builds, but even in PVP, I think they both have their pros and cons
Everyone seems to favor shelter as a heal. I found litany of Wrath to be an excellent heal too.
First, it’s a meditation, which means for a mediguard 2k heal + 4s fury, second it launches smite condition if you took the trait, which means an aditional 2kheal +4s fury.
It’s basicaly a heal, that restores 5.5k hp, + 8s fury, and then, every hit you give after that heals you for a percentage.
Is the 2s of block (which is cancelable by CC btw) worth those 8s fury and health stealth ? I have my elite for that :/
Hey there, I usually roam with a warrior buddy, and I was wondering what you guys think about this:
It’s oriented on support, but can deal some damages too, especially with those traits. What do you guys think ?
About the heal: shelter looks good, yeah, but I already have the elite that does the same thing. Plus, Litany of wrath is a meditation skill, which gives base 1k heal + 2k heal from beeing a meditation +2k heal from launching smite condition, which is also a meditation skill, for a total of 5.5k base heal +25% of every damage i’ll do after that for 6s.
Which of those heals is better: shelter or litany ?
EDIT: Tried with full on celestial, looks a bit better:
EDIT2:
This looks even better:
http://gw2skills.net/editor/?vVEQNAseSnkIC1ChtDBeDB8DhD/h6GuXwHYDgKoOzRYFuDA-T1hAABXcKAIc/B0U+tn+AIVCCwTA4S1fIFAMjBA-w
Also switched some trait to increase the effect of virtue of resolve, and sigil of inteligence for smoldering and food for Koi Cake (since my damages are increased against burning foes, might as well make them burn as long as I can)
(edited by Kehlian.4380)
Nah I even say GL HF at the start of each matches. But I’m french, and sometimes ends up with other frenches, so… I guess that’s where it comes from :/
French is a pretty rageful community online
I play an hybrid celestial medi sword/torch – hammer. This is awesome. When they die, they insult me. When I let them win, they insult me.
I just love this game
Hey there, two bow skins, as I still hesitate on the style of armor I’ll use as my guardian’s ascended stuff.
One: soldier version, with the Ebonguard’s bow, (ascalonians ftw)
Two: Tribal version with the centaur’s bow. (might as well take centaur’s weapons, since they survived maguuma)
That’s why I choosed this particular heal, it saves lives against burst. It’s also a reason why I would swap FmW for RF.
I know it’s not really tanky, but it deals good damages, while still supporting the group decently with condi cleansing, and heals.
What sigil would you recommend ?
Also, I know this shout could easily be replaced by “save yourselves!” because of the synergy it provides with contemplation of purity, but it is the only source of stability I saw.
Thanks for the tip about Radiance over zeal, it indeed is way better for condi damages.
What do you guys think about this one ?
Feel my Wrath may be swaped for Renewed focus
It has some mobility, condi cleansing, and a good damage with all that burning, condi duration, and power/ferocity. It crits fairly often, and still has some defense (maybe not enough ?)
I don’t recall them beeing in GW1, I may have missed them. Also, raptors are birds, not dinosaurs in Guild Wars 2.
Yeah I think it’s possible:
Is that a good build for roaming, pve, or nothing ?
kitten not here, please not on GW, this is the last bastion where there isn’t those ridiculous lore-breaking dinosaurs…
Also Guardian is a low-tier HP pool, Ranger is a mid-tier.
yeah I always saw guardians as extremely religious people who litteraly whip themselves for no apparent reason, with all that lighty divine magic stuff. No they aren’t that cool, dude :p
Ok mate, Here is the build I run for PVE/WvW, and it’s really awesome. The power damage and crit damage you trade for condi damage is really worth it. You can litterally melt your foe under your conditions. He cleanses ? No prob’, you still deal some pretty decent power damage until you restacked your condis.
CONS: you don’t bring anything to the party other than spotter and your DPS, which is already good, but may be looked at by some people, and you are self sufficient. I soloted AC with it. And it’s also good for solo roaming.
For sPVP I run this: http://gw2skills.net/editor/?vNAQNAV8YjEqQLLWuCOsAVLGMEq+dD2WgDg1tB+c/2r9S2VFA-TJRFwAHuIAAeCAx3f4ZZAA
Traded QZ for the spike trap, for obvious CC reason when trying to hold a point. Also added some bleed stacking and intel sigils.
You’ll have a hard time at first, but if the fight last more than 5 seconds, you most likely won.
I hope we get minions, and not a kittening nornish shapeshifting crap.
Thanks a lot for your help, again !
Yeah but bleed isn’t my only DoT source, there is poison too, and it hinders the heal of the foe, so… All in all, maybe bleed + poison = fire.
I got more condi damage, but less condi duration, crit damage and power. I guess your setup is better !
Thanks a lot. Also, I play with a buddy warrior (supporty~ish build), so might isn’t really a problem, I guess.
I bring him precision, he brings me power, condi damage, and might.
wth sound is crap, music at start rekt my ears, but I can’t ear his voice clearly, even with everything at max. Too bad :/
What about that ?
Increased a lot of stats at the cost of 100 power (but got 100 condi damage, 50 toughness, and almost 10% crit damage)
EDIT 2: Since I don’t stack might, I don’t even need the might duration, so switched food, and regained some power and prec:
(edited by Kehlian.4380)
Yeah I got rid of the might stack, I took venom instead, but maybe there’s better like intelligence. Cele is a bit expansive for me, I’ll try to tweak that a bit.
I also noticed I can’t stack might very well with so low precision on the hybrid build, so I guess i’ll drop those sigil of strength, and maybe take venom or accuracy
Are you sure about that ? I mean, I don’t have really long CD, what would swapping those traits give me ?
Also, what tweaks would you apply to the SB one ?
EDIT: Tested and indeed, serpent’s strike and Poison Volley are much better !
