I main a thief, so I wont claim to be a master @ warrior or anything. I run a Valk/Zerk mix for my armor, usually running w/ a GS, AA, rifle, and LB.
Now, frankly, idc how much less viable A/A may or may not be than other combos. I enjoy using A/A. In fact, one of my favorite combos is A/A+LB. Build adren, drop a fire field in the middle of a group of mobs, swap to A/A and pop Whirling Axe. I find this combination fun! All games should be about what’s fun, not about what’s most effective. If you have fun playing the most effective build, that’s fine, but imo Fun > All. So if you want to run A/A, by all means do it.
I think I’ve already added my support, but I’ll do it again! Cantha was easily my most favorite region in Guild Wars.
Oh and just for kicks:

Dat nostalgia. ~_~
Just got disconnected too. Did manage to get into an overflow w/ the event going though. Unfortunately, I’m experiencing unplayable lag atm. Actions aren’t occurring until several minutes later, i lose control of my character because movement keys I pressed aren’t reacting until, once again, several minutes later. It’s just horrendous. I’d quit out of the game if not for the fact that this was the last map I needed. Been waiting 2 days for Mount Maelstrom. -.-;
I don’t see what the problem is. He’s only asking if it’s a bug, not complaining or asking for nerfs or anything. Then again, this is typical of the thief community. Thief players have no interest in balance. In fact they wont be happy until they can do everything better than everyone. For the record, I main a thief. I think thieves have kittened amounts of stealth, and pathetically easy access to it. At the moment, thief is 90% cheese, 10% skill. I personally run a stealthless build (mostly stealthless. CnD). It requires actual skill instead of mindlessly spamming stealth for easy kills.
OP, do yourself a favor and avoid the thief forums. You wont find any form of intelligent life here.

Slinging accusations, calling entire servers “unskilled blobs” etc, etc, is childish and pathetic. Have I been guilty of arguing on the internet? Sure, we all have, but I’m man enough to admit I was wrong. I don’t care if Piken is saying it, or Deso. Seriously, grow up. All this drama over a video game. -.-;

So lately, I’ve been getting this message whenever I try to log into the game. I can still log in, this message just seemingly appears at random. Does anyone have any idea what’s going on? This seems to have been happening since Cutthroat politics. Could anyone shed some light on this? I’m logged in now, but I just got this message twice before I could get in game. Any idea what is going on here?
Official response on the Lag issues please?

I can attest to this lag too. I can’t say for certain when it started. I only came back a couple of weeks ago, and most of my time has been spent in WvW. I didn’t think anything of it, because WvW is always a bit laggy. However, I’ve been focusing on PvE for the last few days and I’ve gotten skill lag. Sometimes it’s tolerable, and other times it gets pretty bad. Skills not responding for several seconds, even death caused by said skill lag. I’ve never had lag in PvE before, and I’ve been playing on max Graphic detail since head-start. Also gotten random disconnects from time to time.

Stealth has become this game’s Shadow Form. In GW1, everyone knew it was overpowered, but when someone would comment on it, the assassin players who abuse it would descend on the poor player like hawks from the sky. As you can see, the same thing is going on here; thief players don’t like that you’re attacking their Win Button.
EDIT: and just FYI, I main a thief as well. Just as I mained an Assassin. I dislike both Shadow Form and Stealth.
All of this seems awfully familiar…oh yeah, the same thing happened in GW1 with the assassin! Go figure! There’s nothing wrong with thieves in PvE, just as there was nothing wrong with Assassins in Gw1 PvE. It all came down to bad players who didn’t know what they were doing. In the case of Assassins, it was mostly idiots who tried to tank (let’s not touch that abomination called shadow form, kthnx.)
Just like I didn’t have much problem playing an assassin in PvE, I have little problem playing a thief in PvE either. Sounds like L2P issues to me.
EDIT: To clarify, I know the OP isn’t saying they’re bad. Just my 2 cents about the issue.
(edited by Keitaro Dragonheart.9047)
I agree, this is wrong regardless of game mode. The people defending this are little more than bad and/or lazy players, who don’t want to have to actually work to earn PvP related rewards, so they sit on their lazy butts in a jumping puzzle for easy kills.
Sorry, you shouldn’t get an easy button because you’re too lazy and/or bad to accomplish anything fairly.
US player playing an an EU server. I have the same issue. Guilds aren’t working, parties aren’t working, and i keep getting randomly booted from both parties and dungeons.
EDIT: Also might add, the invisible Party Interface has been on and off for a while, but the rest only started after the crash.

This bug has been happening for a while, I don’t know if anyone else has had it, but when I jump off of a cliff/roof/bridge/etc, from high enough that the damage is noticeable, my character actually falls twice, and thus I end up taking the falling damage twice. First, the jump, then suddenly I’m back up in the air and falling again. Not sure if this is lag or what, but other than that, the game runs smoothly. No other issues whatsoever.
Has anyone else seen this, or am I alone in this?
So I was just playing the game roughly half an hour ago. When I went to get back on, I opened the client, but it ignores all of my commands. According to the Task Manager, it’s responding, it even looks as if its responding, but I can’t type in my password, I can X it out, none of the buttons on the client are working whatsoever. I’ve even tried Alt+F4 and that doesn’t work either. I can only open it, and close it via task manager, or right-clicked on the icon on the menu bar and hitting close.
Can anyone offer some insight, and maybe some help, please? Thanks.
I’m adding my voice to this as well. My GW2 experience started early on, like 6/7 years ago with GW1. I absolutely loved Guild Wars Factions. Of all the expansions, it was by far my favorite. The lore, the beautiful landscape; all utterly magnificent. I thoroughly enjoy the Ritualist, and the Assassin quickly became my most favorite profession of them all.
To not include Cantha, I think would be a grave mistake. Judging from the posts on this thread, it seems to me that Cantha was very popular, and only a fool would throw away popular content.
NCSoft certainly doesn’t seem like fools, so please, bring back Cantha!
If balance in WvW is irreverent then they should disable stealth in it.
They have had no problem disabling other skills when they didn’t work right. Even class mechanic skills.
This. 1,000 times this. The players crying out for nerfs are not interested in game balance. They’re only interested in winning without putting in any effort for it. And supposing the thief does get heavily crippled by the nerf bat, don’t think for a moment they’ll stop at the thief. Any of the other 7 classes will be on their hit lists. all it takes is a single defeat and “ERMAHGERD, OVURPOWERD, NURF!!!11!1one!1one!1!”
Fine, Lets just buff everyone to deal with Thieves!
Every Non thief Class will now do 10x more damage.
Every Non thief Class will now have 10x more HP.No nerfs! So I must be interested in balance right?
The only thing “nerfs” do is separate people who can think logically and those who can not. Power is totally relative. A nerf to one class is a buff to every other. A Buff to one class is a nerf to every other.
The only “advantage” of Buffs only is to soothe the egos of bad players using overpowered classes as a crutch to overcome their own incompetence.
So we should nerf the thief class because one of them dared strike you? Yes of course, makes perfect sense! People don’t want to just nerf the thief now, they want to utterly destroy it. Every time someone gets beaten by a thief, or a warrior, or a mesmer, they come here crying and screaming for nerfs like ignorant little children. Have you been paying any attention to the thief forums? The nerfers have been attacking everything from death blossom, to stealth. They’re dead set on obliterating thief burst, taking away stealth, and generally ruining the thief entirely.
The thief class isn’t overpowered. Could it use some tweaks? Perhaps, but the same could be argued of other classes as well. However, beyond the culling issue, there are little to no issues at all. If you’re going to nerf thief burst, then burst for other classes should be nerfed as well. People so easily overlook all the threads from thief and non-thief players alike about how easy it is to kill thieves. Look through the forums and you’ll find that skilled players have no problems dealing with thieves. But because bad players get beaten by thieves, they MUST be overpowered! HURRAY FOR LOGIC!!1!one!!
By that logic, every class should get nerfed for having ever defeated someone.
Incompetence indeed.
Wooshh. Right over your head.
No, i knew exactly what you were saying. But because i don’t agree with you, I’m stupid and didn’t get it, but whatever helps you sleep at night buddy. If it makes you feel better to think you won an internet argument, then by all means. Either way, I think I’m done here. Have a nice day.

If you buff my Bunker build so the point where Thief is “balance” no other class in the game could kill it. It is already very difficult to kill for other classes.
It is much easier to nerf one overpowered “build” than it is to buff the hundreds of other builds in the game to compensate for it.
It is easier to buff other classes aspects lines instead, just take away some of the damage that they do to balance it out.
I feel that if you built bunker, other classes besides thief, should not one shot you as others can one shot if built to do that. It is only for those that built bunker specifically. I also think that if you built bunker, you really shouldn’t be able to do more that 100 damage per swing since you dumped stuff into being a bunker. If thiefs get hit with a heavy nerf bat, I’m going to start asking for nerfs to all the other classes. I haven’t because I’m a better player than that but it sure has sucked when I got 100b on a warrior that jumped me. Then there are the guardians that have laughed at me when I tried a backstab. Scenarios that people keep trying to say is common isn’t. Scenarios like people claim require everything to be set perfect for that thief.
Nerfs and buffs work both ways. You may not like my suggestions, I also don’t like yours.
You people asking for nerfs to thief will gut it and make it worthless to play or you will hamstring us to the point that there will be only one way to go. You all complain about damage but if you nerf that, then we won’t stand any chance against a warrior or guardian because they have better defense and HP, even when only a little bit of bunker is built into the character. You’ll gut the damage to the extent that no thief build will be worth having around. Then there is the stealth nerf others cry for, frankly there isn’t anything wrong with it and the claims that people are making are not taking in a real perspective because they are all claiming that I can do everything when the reality is thieves cannot. Back stab thieves are not healing or removing conditions in stealth. If they are then their damage is gutted and they are not one shotting and any one that claims do be able to is lying. I’ve tried it myself and there just ins’t enough damage against a warrior, guardian or the engineer(one’s I’ve encountered all survived my backstabs and they took the full brunt.) They are also not likely to approach in stealth since they will miss out on applying a vulnerability and damage. So they can get away. Big deal. Players that insist on revenge for a failed attempt should probably look at their personal philosophy because revenge isn’t everything and that is the main reason people want stealth removed.
What do you people really expect from a squishy profession in the first place? A bunker? You really believe we are going to put stats into toughness when our armor is going to suck anyway unless we just gut all our damage potential.
Too many false claims made by non thief players because they don’t know how the profession actually works. I would love to have that 30/30/30/30/30 that people think I have. When I was backstab, I never had regen in stealth because that would screw my chance at a one shot. I never had any condition removal in stealth because again, it would screw my damage. Stealth healing and backstab do not mix well because you have to take away from a damage line to boost that.
Even still, people are focusing on WvW and ANet had stated that WvW isn’t supposed to be balanced. Too many factors involved like other players and buffs they may offer, food, gem store. Then if you actually make WvW like sPvP, you’ve lost potential PvE focused players because why would I want to go into WvW after working to get the look and stats that I just shelled out gold for, or why should I go into PvE from WvW when I’m going to need another set of gear so you’ve lost potential PvE players.
WvW imbalance is what makes that fun plus you get to have a different kind of build and try it out, otherwise you may as well as sPvP.
It isn’t hard to counter a thief. I can survive a backstab attempt. I know I’m not the best player so if you people are all that you claim, you all should be able to survive one. I think that those that claim to fail are either glass or lying because they don’t like the profession.
This. 1,000 times this. The players crying out for nerfs are not interested in game balance. They’re only interested in winning without putting in any effort for it. And supposing the thief does get heavily crippled by the nerf bat, don’t think for a moment they’ll stop at the thief. I can’t really say I’m surprised by this thread. Bad players always find reasons to cry. Rogue-type classes excell at killing. Their role has always been to pop in, unleash hell, and get out. Any class, ANY CLASS can seem overpowered when in the hands of a skilled player. Nobody ever stops to think that maybe, just MAYBE they got defeated by a more skilled player.
But if you lose to a Death Blossom thief, please, uninstall the game and go play runescape or tetris. That might be more your speed.
Everyone should just re-roll to warrior. They have an innate immunity to nerfs, so you’ll never have to worry about having your effectiveness reduced. No, if anything, you’ll just have it continually increased!
No, apparently warrior is underpowered! They wont be balanced until they can deal 50k damage on an auto-attack!
I finally decided to go for it a couple weeks back. Finally finished off the set. All except for the mask, which wasn’t really worth 20g, imo. xD So I grabbed a mask that looked similar off the market for far cheaper. x)
Now I’m flat broke of course, and slowly working on transmuting the skin to an exotic set.
Short anwser : No.
Long answer :
Hell no.
Such a well thought out, in-depth response. Your argument is clearly solid.
But for the sake of argument, please elaborate. If you can.
So I’ve been reading alot of the threads posted on here about how stealth is overpowered. I can understand both sides of the issue; on one hand, the thief is completely invisible. Free to come and go and strike as he or she pleases. Possessing the ability to do this, and so frequently, I can see how this can be frustrating or a bit imba. On the other hand, stealth is a major part of thief gameplay. So I’ve come up with a compromise that I think may appease both sides.
My suggestion is a simple change to Stealth animation and appearance. I suggest altering stealth to something similar to Mass Effect 3’s Tactical Cloak. For those who don’t know what this looks like, I have some footage of it here;
http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=S9CVyRLnxNg#t=153s
This would make stealth more balanced, as the thief would be very difficult to spot, but not impossible. It would also require a thief to use stealth more intelligently, instead of reapplying it willy nilly. For PvE, stealthing would still drop enemy aggro. For PvP, stealth would also still drop targeting, but now opposing players have a chance to spot the thief and respond accordingly.
Please try and keep this civil. Remain polite, and intelligent in your responses. Thank you.
After the update a few minutes ago, i can’t log into my account. It keeps saying my account name or password is incorrect. Fearing a hack, i made a request to change my password. However, upon entering my new password, it still says my account name or password is incorrect. I’d like to know if anyone else is having the same problem before I send a ticket to Anet.
UPDATE: This thread can be closed now. It seems to be working again, after my 5th attempt. x)

Yes! Nerf everything we don’t like! Makes perfect sense! And when Thief is rendered useless, whose next, Mesmer? Then when the QQers are done with Mesmer, whose next, Necromancer? Ranger? Guardian? In fact, I have the perfect solution; let’s just remove all the classes, except warrior from the game, since the warrior class is clearly the only class that is completely perfect as is!
I’ve noticed this too; sometimes, I like to go back and read over my personal story. No particular reason, it’s just something I like to do. It would be nice if they fixed it, but bigger bugs like Arah are more important.
I rarely post on the forums, I usually just browse, but after reading through this thread, I just felt the need to post.
OP, you accuse others of being ignorant and stupid, and yet you fail to see the blatant irony of your own comments. Your own arrogance and ignorance is just….I don’t have a word for it…astounding? unfathomable? unbelievable? All of your posts are insulting and condescending toward others. You imply at every turn that only you are right, that everyone else is wrong, and that anyone who disagrees with you is stupid.
You have no leg to stand on. No facts to back up your claims. only OPINIONS. And yet when others post their OPINIONS, you accuse them of being wrong, stupid, and ignorant. You’re so full of yourself, it’s almost sickening.
Back on topic, I see absolutely nothing wrong with the event, in fact I agree with the majority of the posters in this thread; this is EXACTLY the kind of thing an Asura would do, and I wholeheartedly look forward to it!
GW1’s assassin was a mess. Reliance on a single easily-removed enchant to survive in PvE, no utility besides raw DPS, one-trick glass cannon that had to go all out into an easily-countered offense in PvP, etc.
I’m sorry, but I’m calling bullcrap on that PvE part. If you’re talking about Aura of Displacement, which I assume you are, you are SADLY mistaken. As an Assassin main in GW1, and a very successful Assassin, I never touched Aura once in PvE, and had a whole repertoire of successful, powerful, interesting, and non-PvX assassin builds that I used in PvE. I survived in PvE pretty darn well without AoD or PvX gimmicks, while dealing good to excellent damage and/or leaving mobs a mess with conditions. I usually refrain from the following statement, but in this case, I’ll make an exception: you’re just bad…at assassin.
Now, on to the main subject;
I can’t really say which I prefer. I like both the Assassin and the Thief. It’s hard to compare the two classes, when the combat mechanics for the two games are so completely different.
The Dungeons are Not Difficult - They are Mechanically Flawed - Here's Why...
Posted by: Keitaro Dragonheart.9047
Dungeons do have some flaws yes. Also, not everyone is a gaming god; casual players like me will have problems with dungeons. However, with a skilled group, they can be fairly easy, as I have experienced.
Also, Ruien, try being at least a little civil. There is no need to come on and berate and insult people for having a differing opinion. You claim people like the OP are ignorant? The irony is clearly lost on you. Calling people ignorant, whiners, telling people “you don’t need or deserve to run these dungeons” or attacking “mentality” makes you just as ignorant.
Bumping an old dead thread, but it’s better than making a new one. x)
I was wondering the same thing. I’d like to have the full set for my thief. I like the skin. I haven’t seen any of it on the TP either.
I’m a Ranger and while I could complete the personal story quests so far, all of them became a run-in-circles-like-a-poisoned-rat experience after the saving Flametail (Charr character with a rogue shaman for father background) sequence. Pets are borderline useless both in instances and in regular outdoor PvE as they can’t hold aggro for more than 3 seconds.
Funny thing is that I can be considered lucky as I have a pet to distract the baddies and medium armor to take a few hits before biting the dust. I can’t even imagine what the heck squishy clothies do. The quest where I had to defend the Vigil from the hordes of undead was hilarious. Massive waves of mobs, ALL friendly NPCs dead, cannons destroyed and I’m getting backed into a corner.
The whole thing ended up in me running around the courtyard in circles, farting crippling traps, blindly shooting with short bow and sending my pet on anything that moved IF my beloved fleasack wasn’t dead with the swapping on cooldown. Also, furiously bashing the key for Troll Unguent whenever it was ready as my health was constantly dropping below 15% and a single, non-veteran monster hitted me for anything between 4 and 6%. And there was 20 of those monsters running after me at once.
Thank you Anet, for providing me these nostalgic experiences, all of them mimicking the Arishok battle in Dragon Age 2 with a mage character. Memories I’m SO INCREDIBLY fond of: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qLPSV0fb9vQ
This. Exactly this. Couldn’t have put it better myself. However, I was far less fortunate, in that I was a thief, thus no pet… -_-;
