Lol do seriously mesmers get shield?

All other classes get cool weapons like engi hammer, druid staff, probably thief rifle, we get a lame off-hand shield that are completely out of context for mesmers. from all the weapons that could easily fit the mesmers like dagger, axe and even main hand pistol we get the shields, i dont know i hope there are some mage like skins for shield with HoT to fit my mesmer style at least, otherwise that wasnt a good choice tbh.
I’ll take “Not listening to anything the devs have been saying for the past 2 months for 800”.
I’ll take “The Devs not listening to anything the mesmer playerbase has been saying for the past 2 1/2 years for 800.”
Your point adds absolutely nothing to the conversation. The shield is not for mesmers; the shield is for the Mesmer specialization.
My point is, we literally have 0 idea of what the Mesmer specialization can do with the shield. A regular Mesmer cannot use a shield, so why this is an issue is beyond me. When they release more information about the specializations (and how they are very likely NOT just extra weapon skills tacked onto the profession), then we will know why they chose a shield.
Neither does yours. The mesmer playerbase has been asking for more main-hand weapons (Pistol main-hand mostly) since launch, so they give us….-drum roll please- an off-hand, and a shield even…yay? >_>

but the profession, when played well is in need of a nerf.
Wow…just…just wow. I sincerely hope you’re trolling, because this is one of the dumbest things I’ve ever read on the thief forums.

I mainly use a Meditation DPS build, but for dungeons, I occasionally run a support build that I created myself back near launch and have been using since.
High Defense, High Vitality, High Healing Power, a near constant stream of boons to my party, and party-wide condition removal w/ shouts from my runes. It lacks damage but it makes up for it in pure support power with potent heals, condi removal and boon support. Might not be meta, but I like it, and it’s pretty kitten powerful. <3

Not exactly sure what this issue would be, but ever since one of the patches in January (can’t say when for sure), I have this issue with the game, where sometimes the game will sort of tab itself out, but the GW2 cursor is locked. I cannot click on ANYTHING and the only way to fix it, is to force restart my entire system. I can control-alt-delete but the cursor remains and I cannot click on the task manager. I’ve tried restarting from the cntrl-alt-dlt menu, but again, I can’t click “Force Close” because my cursor is locked into the GW2 cursor. I can still alt-tab, but alt-tabbing to the game does nothing. Can still hear the music and sounds playing, but otherwise, nothing.
I’ve tried Repairing the game and uninstalling and re-installing, and still the issue persists. So far the only fix is an improper shut down, but that doesn’t stop this…bug or whatever, from happening again. EDIT: should mention, I used to be able to ctlr+alt+delete, then log off, click cancel, and all was well, but that doesn’t work anymore, because the cursor gets stuck there too. Hence why I’m here.
EDIT 2: So it happened for a second time today; both times it happened when trying to change “Render Sampling”. I currently have it set to “Supersample”. Don’t know if it’s a coincidence, but there it is. Nevermind. Tried it again to test that theory, but it didn’t happen.

GPU Heat while running the game is @ 41-45 C
Where are you getting that info from? And what model is your GPU exactly? My R9 280X is around 70 degrees on full load, 45 degrees is way too low.
My video card is the Radeon 280X 3GB. The temps are from Speedfan, and it’s currently running between 55-65 C
Verify those temps with GPU-Z.
Speedfan can be flaky at times (reading the wrong sensor for the incorrect Device ID).
Repeated w/ GPU-Z. Temps are still reading the same.
Then you got really lucky, those 280x’s run really hot. I had to drop my Direct CU II Asus cooler for a MK-26 to get my 280x’s temps down. Now my top end temp is 46c :-)
But that aside, did you install the AMD Omega Drivers yet? If not, I highly suggest it.
Thanks, just installed the new driver, I guess we’ll see how than goes.

Did a repair like sirsquishy suggested, didn’t work. Did a full re-install. That worked for a while, but the problem is back again. I don’t have this problem w/ SWTOR, or any of my Dragon Age games. GW2 is the only game w/ a Graphics issue. Tabbing-out and back in fixes the graphics, as before.

Is this a serious thread? I mean, for real? Lol.
So I’ve had this problem for a while now, but I’ve been content with it because simply minimizing the game and maximizing it again fixes it. But it’s getting annoying now, so here I am.
While I’m playing the game, the graphics will randomly break until I minimize the game and maximize again. I’m playing on Windows 7, w/ 6GB of memory, and an AMD Radeon R9 200 series video card. The drive is up-to-date, and I’ve got V-synch enabled. Seems to occur regardless of whether it’s enabled or not.

Are you kidding me? Why do people feel the need to throw the race card at EVERYTHING that ‘seems’ unfair? Really? Ugh. -.-;
It’s an MMO, which requires you to deal with people, sadly. It’s a drawback to an otherwise great game.

Yup. 4 days left on my charr Ranger. Same issue. Banker broken. Can’t get it to work anywhere.
When African Americans have dominated society and deprived Americans of European descent their rights to marriage, education, healthcare, and other basic freedoms, you can start claiming the use of “n*****” is a double standard. Until that day, it’s merely an attempt to claim a word that has been used for generations to belittle and degrade a group of people based on the color of their skin and thereby deprive it of its potency to hurt.
TL;DR Only white people can be racist. That’s something a racist (or a reject) would say.
I agree with most of your points. Guild Wars 2 is a complete mess at the moment imo. But There’s no point in discussing it on the forums. As you can see by your replies thus far, Anet fanboys jump, fangs and claws at the ready at the simplest of criticisms. If you don’t enjoy the game, apparently, you’re expected to just shut up and leave. Criticism of any kind is apparently frowned upon, because I guess GW2 is a perfect game, amirite?
There’s a reason many people, like myself, don’t bother to post on the forums very often, if at all. Fanboys are easily kitten when you dare point out their game’s flaws.
snip
Of course its not good, it wasnt good in GW1 and its not good in GW2.
But hey, at least “community” (those few people that called themselves community at the time and whined about it the loudest) is happy, amiright?
If you want to delude yourself that trait system change has nothing to do with GW1 skill capture whines, well, good luck with that because its direct reaction to “feedback from community”
They did skill/trait/gear system at launch to serve specific purpose (as you can read in my sig)
Now 2 of those are untrue, and direct result of “community whines” aka “who was loudest on the forums at certain times”
Right. Only “GW1 whiners” are ruining the game. Because GW2 players (who’ve never played GW1) totally never whine!
“Waaah! Liadari is too hard! Nerf!”
“Waaah! Arah is too hard! Nerf!”
“Waaah! Ascalon Catacombs story mode is too hard! Nerf!”
Please, bunch of cry babies. Ruining content by getting it nerfed with all your tears. Ascalon Catacombs story mode for instance was hella fun; you actually had to think (le gasp) to complete it. Then people cried it was too hard, it got nerfed, and now you can just faceroll through it. GW2 players want everything easymode. You thought anything in this game was hard?
As a GW1 player, I challenge all of you to go play Elite missions without gimmicks. Domain of Anguish, Underworld, Fissure of Woe. None of you will last past the first wave of mobs before you start crying that it’s too hard and needs to be nerfed. And all of those missions had a Hard Mode too. The only thing in this game that could be considered challenging by comparison, would be Arah Explorer Mode and High Level Fractals.
GW2 carebears (not casuals/hardcore/whatever. Thought I’d clarify before people start screaming that not all GW2 players are alike.) are ruining the game as much as, if not more so than “GW1 whiners.”
(edited by Keitaro Dragonheart.9047)
Congrats SFR! It was a well deserved victory. Deso fought hard, and we’re proud for second place. I assure you, there are no tears from Deso, and if there are, it’s likely just the sub-humans who lack the common sense to ignore trolls, or have the maturity level of a toddler. Trust me, regardless of server, these people are not to be taken seriously. Ever.
It’s actually funny to watch people try and bait each other over internet forums for a video game.
The match-up forums and threads like these always make for awesome entertainment. It’s like the chimpanzee exhibit at the zoo; a bunch of monkeys throwing poop at each other.
And at the same time, watching people sling crap at each other like chimps over a video game makes me lose just a little bit more faith in humanity. My server, Desolation is currently getting 2v1’d by SFR and BB, but I’m having loads of fun. I DC’d mid fight at our Garrison on Deso BLs and we were besieged by both BB and SFR, and it’s the most fun I’ve had in WvW in a long time.
Instead acting like a bunch of unruly children, why not try enjoying the game instead? And if you’re not, is it really so hard to find something else to do instead? Well, I suppose that’s a rhetorical question. This thread answers that question pretty well I think.
Stealth isn’t the problem. Stealth is perfectly balanced. I’ll tell you what the real problem is:
1) Shadow Arts Trait line: Almost ALL of the thief’s survivability is here. They can spec for Condi Removal, Initiative gain/regen, AND Health regen.
2) They have stupid amounts of stealth; Hide in Shadows, Hidden Thief (Stealth on Steal), Instinctual Response (Stealth on taking more than 10% dmg in a single strike), Shadow refuge, Cloak and Dagger, Blinding Powder, Blinding Tuft (stolen), Throw Feathers (stolen), Combo field with Smokescreen, and of course, the 99% cheese 1% skill D/P thief w/ Black Powder stealth combo field.
Obviously you cannot bring ALL of these, but it is possible to bring quite a few of these options into a single build. These 2 things are the problem, not stealth, and something needs to be done about them. As I said, stealth itself is fine; the access thieves have to it and the shadow arts tree are not fine.
Well, yes, and no, but only for Open World. Doesn;t matter what you run on open world, since it’s pitifully easy. I’ll just LOL too. You’re delusional, just like all the other Warrior cry babies, pretending that your class is perfectly balanced. It’s funny, because usually warriors are the first ones to jump on the forums and cry that EVERYONE ELSE is overpowered. x’D
Mesmer OP! NERF
TEEF OP, NERF
SPIRIT RANGER OP, NERF
CONDI ENGI OP, NERF

WARRIOR OP, nah, u just need to l2p cuz ure bad.

This whole thread is hilarious. This is a tiny, nearly insignificant nerf, and warrior players are going insane over it! It’s like Shadow Form all over again!
People crying and screaming because their “I Win” Button got nerfed. Warrior gets far too much, with far too few trade offs. They’re the most broken, overpowered class in the game at the moment. A lobotomized pidgeon could master the warrior class by crapping randomly over the keyboard.
The nerf is justified. The warrior class needs more nerfs. No class should get High DPS, High Defense, High passive regen, high passive condition cleanse, high active condition cleanse, and high mobility all in a single build. I’ve played a warrior, played many different builds, and all of the above is certainly attainable in a single build. The warrior gets everything for nothing, while all other classes have to make sacrifices.
Here’s my build. I don’t see a whole lot of trade offs here.
Warrior is no where near as close to OP as mesmers right now. Warrior being most OP class in the game is so summer of 2013. Also your warrior build is terrible.
Translation: I have no valid arguments, so I’ll just throw my feces like a chimpanzee.
Actually no the only way you can land 100 blades is to immobilize them. Then weapon swap. What happens when Immolize is cleased? Nothing you do no damage. Since GS is a terrible weapon unless the target is CCed. 2ndly there are tons of players that are simply immune to immobilize what then? Anyone with half a brain can beat that build.
For sPvP, perhaps. And yet for your utilities, there are still many options to make it work.
And just for the sake of further argument, trade in your mobility, and you can get kittened amounts of CC.
Hammer+Mace/Shield and you can lock people down and pump out damage, while having high defense, high condi cleanse, high passive regen…
Yeah, but let’s cry over an 8% healing signet nerf.
Warrior tears taste delicious.
Your Power is low and your crit damage is low so its not like you are doing fantastic damage either.
Lastly Your armor is in fact not 2800 it is 2700. Which is not really much higher than what other professions can get. If not lower. You did not go 15 into DIS so your weapon swaps are on a long 10 second Cool down which makes you totally vulnerable to getting killed. you have no signet mastery so you swiftness might and fury uptime is terrible, the build has low mobility.
its simply a bad build but this is exactly what I expect in this thread players who dont know how to build complaining warriors are OP of course they are stronger than you cuz you cant build.
EDIT: I’m sure you didn’t notice, but it was set to PvE mode…? I WvW, and PvP, I don’t use a GS in PvP. I kill warriors in WvW and PvP also. Doesn’t change the fact that they can still get everything for nothing. GS+Sword/Warhorn in WvW, and they can engage and disengage and reset fights on par with a thief, if not better. Warrior has a low skill floor, so low that even bad players can use it effectively.
PvE Warrior is outright ridiculous. I barely even have to try to be effective as a warrior in PvE. Warrior simply does it all at once, with almost 0 trade-offs. EVERY other class has to make sacrifices. Warrior does not.
Saying PvE is easy isn’t an excuse either. I don’t think it’s unreasonable to expect warriors to make sacrifices like EVERY OTHER CLASS.
Warrior tears still taste delicious.
and just FYI: I’m not the best WvWer or PvPer, but I still do rather well as a Warrior in all modes, and I don’t follow the meta either. Becuase, y’know, I don’t need my hand held by some random guide on the internet.

I minimized the game because I was chatting with a friend. via IM. I’m aware there’s an afk timer in the game, so I’m pretty sure that’s what booted me, however, I wanted to report this, just in case it’s a bug, or a real hack attempt. I’m just not sure how I’d go about that, so I’m posting it here for now.
Anywho as I mentioned, I was booted from the game, and the message I got said someone was logging in with another client, and to try again later. Well, needless to say I changed my password immediately, just in case. So far everything seems good. I can still log in with my new password and all my characters seem intact.
So I’d like to ask what should I do now?

This game doesn’t need the Holy Trinity. Forcing classes into specific roles is lame, and boring, and if they ever implement the holy trinity, I will quit this game.
I especially loathe healing classes. Playing whack-a-mole with red bars is boring, and allows bad players to stay bad instead of learn and adapt. The lack of a dedicated healing class and thus the trinity, makes the game far more interesting. Sure, the combat is not perfect, but it is far superior to the boring, 2-dimensional, and completely flat combat systems of World of Warcraft, and all games like it.
And yet the destroyers where still trying to kill everything even with Primordus asleep back in EotN, so…
To be fair, Primordus was supposed to awaken that same year, but The Great Destroyer’s death set his awakening back 50 years.
I’m not so sure this is an AI issue. Of course AI is such a horribly broad term. For the most part I think the range and variety of abilities that enemies have is the problem. Most open world enemies have perhaps 1 stun (if at all) on a long cool down and then some dps abilities. There’s not a lot they can do with that other than attack you and occasionally throw a stun your way.
Yeah, this was something I’d forgotten to consider. That’s another part of the problem that I think needs to be worked on. Better AI won’t help much of enemy skill bars are terrible.
What you and countless other people seem to ignore, is that the move towards offensive gear is a completely natural progression of the metagame. The more comfortable you become with encounter mechanics, the less passive defenses you need. Dragon Age is a good example of this, you might have just used a stock tank/healer/2 DPS group, but when people realized you could use fireball or storm of the century to just flat out obliterate everything, people went from that trinity setup to an offensive dual or even triple (if the player was a mage) DPS spellcaster setup because they knew how the fights worked, and that as long as you could keep up CC you could just destroy everything with offensive spells.
As far as I know, the GW2 dungeon meta started off as “bring PVT”, and the Giganticus Lupicus guide on the GW2 wiki still says to bring defensive gear. However with all of the knowledge we have now, we can give up defensive stats and move towards full offense. This is an entirely natural progression, and it’s something which promotes experience and skillful play. Know the fight well enough? Go full DPS. Don’t know it? Maybe stick some knights gear on. Making defensive stats basically a requirement is basically gear gating content and basically turns it in to the way agony resist currently is – don’t have the AR? Well I guess you can’t do it. Don’t have enough PVT? Well I guess you can’t do this dungeon.
The option to go full offensive is great in this game, because if you’re incompetent in full berserker, you’ll most likely either faceplant. If you don’t and you’re bad with berserker, most likely you’re getting carried. The fact that you can complete all content with offensive setups is the very thing that makes speed clearing content in this game a matter of skill and not just passing gear checks.
The AI in a game is always going to seem stupid after over a year of the game being out because most tactics to deal with it are going to be common knowledge, it’s almost as if you want us to just be at the early days where people were clueless and running around kiting mobs, ranging and using weak builds and gear because that would somehow be more interesting.
And what you seem to be ignoring is that the AI really is pretty stupid. I can only assume you haven’t played Guild Wars 1, because if you compare the AI of that game to the AI in this game, you’d see that GW1 AI is far superior. Increasing the intelligence of the AI would requires zerker teams to put a little more thought into combat, or perhaps consider bringing a support character, or a control character instead of slotting 5 DPS. Is adding more strategy and more tactical thinking to the game really such a bad thing? Even doing something as making mobs dodge would be a nice improvement.
And what of the other small changes I mentioned? Do you have nothing to say on those? Adding elemental weakness and resistance, physical weakness and resistance (i.e. blunt damage/piercing damage/slashing damage) to further increase strategical play? Or for ranged damage, adding an elevation factor into calculating damage as it was with Guild Wars 1. Kiting is another thing; you had to carefully choose when to flee and when to fight, because if you chose to kite, melee enemies could and would deal more damage to you while you fled, and vice versa.
You raise some good points, I’m not too proud to ignore that, but you’re not considering ALL sides of my arguments. Adding more strategy, more tactical thinking to the game is NOT a bad thing. If anything, it would improve PvE as a whole.
PvE is just so mind numbingly easy at the moment. Are you saying you’re okay with that? Okay with just rushing around and HULK SMASHING everything?
“little point to running defensive gear”?
Do you understand that full cleric parties can quite literally smash random keys and things will eventually die with zero intelligent input from them? Do you understand that you can clear Arah path 2 in full defensive setups without using a single dodge? If you don’t believe me, I can dig up the video links.
There is plenty of value in defensive gear, it’s for people who don’t feel comfortable enough in being able to dodge major sources of damage, or for those who wish to roleplay tankier characters. For people who become comfortable with fights they can slot out defensive gear and go more offensive since they’re familiar with the encounters and know how to mitigate the major sources of damage.
If anything, it’s PVT and Cleric gear that is too strong in this game, it allows you to soak up tons of hits and quite literally afk your game, go back 10 minutes later to a dead boss and loot chest.
I’m aware. That comment was a minor misstep on my part. There IS a point to running defensive gear, but currently, zerker and assassin’s gear is more effective in most cases, because the AI is inept. I say more effective, in that it’s faster, and obviously more desirable. What you described is clearly a gimmick; every game has them. You noticed I mentioned Sabway and Discordway from Guild Wars 1? Sure, defensive gear has its place. I never said it didn’t. If it fits their play style, then they’re likely to build defensive. But zerker is more effective, BECAUSE the AI is stupid. Just as the gimmick you mentioned is effective because the AI is stupid. This is why I mentioned AI improvement as one such improvement to PvE overall. So people have to put actual thought into an encounter instead of button mashing, or in the case you mentioned “soak up tons of hits and quite literally afk your game”
These are problems you very rarely, if ever, encountered in Guild Wars 1, because the AI was smarter than a tube of toothpaste. Not counting Stupid Form (Shadow Form), 55 Monk, and 600 Monk ofc. More lame gimmcks.
First of all, I’m aware not everyone may agree, and I ask that you remain polite and level-headed in your posts, and please stay on topic. This is just my own opinion on how PvE may be improved.
Guild Wars 1 had great AI. It had its faults, like heroes standing in AoEs for instance, but overall, I felt it was very good and fun to fight against. From what I understand, the AI in Guild Wars was designed to think and act like a player and for the most part they did. Enemies worked in tandem to take down the player; Ritualists would cast Splinter weapon on their Barrage allies or Warrior allies to spread massive damage, Monk enemies would remove conditions and hexes from their allies, Paragon enemies would buff their allies with shouts, etc, etc.
In Guild Wars 2 we don’t, or very rarely, see this. The enemy AI in this game is mostly…well, stupid. In open world PvE, most mobs are barely even an annoyance. But in dungeons, and with bosses, they have ludicrous amounts of health, CC, ridiculous damage or have a bunch of one shots or AoEs, or 1 shot AoEs. Or all of the above. It doesn’t feel like there is much strategy involved in PvE. This has led to the current zerker meta; most other gears sets are irrelevant. Defensive gear especially, because it seems no matter how defensive you build, you still take ridiculous amounts of damage, or still get 1-shotted. So there is very little point to running defensive gear.
Having played Guild Wars 1 for 7 years, this feels incredibly cheap, since 1-shots were not all that common in Guild Wars 1. They weren’t really needed. This is what Guild Wars 2 lacks; intelligent AI. AI that thinks and acts like a player, that works with its allies to take down opponents instead of acting like mindless, zerging zombies.
One major step toward improving PvE in this game lies in improving AI, both enemy and ally. We’ve seen a bit of this with the toxic alliance; you down an enemy sylvari and most often times their allies may come to their defense. That’s good, I like seeing that. But on the whole, the AI is still just so bad. If you improve the AI to Guild Wars 1 standards, you can scale back the damage and 1-shots in this game, and make it feel more strategic and less cheap. As a further consequence, other gear sets beyond Zerker and Assassin’s becomes more viable. Improving the AI would also discourage players from mindlessly face rolling everything in their path with zerker gear, because each encounter would require just a little more thought than “LEROY JENKINS! 11111111”.
Naturally, there are some other small improvements that can be made. Like weakness and resistance like Guild Wars 1 had. This would indirectly improve the elementalist. In Guild Wars 1, ice and undead enemies would be weak to fire, water enemies would be weak to air damage, etc. Or having the higher elevation buffed ranged damage, and the reverse, you’d deal less ranged damage. These are just some little things that I feel would add a more in-depth strategical element to the game.
Lastly, one thing that I’ve discussed with other players in-game, would be to add Hard Mode to the game. Creating Hard Mode maps and dungeons with all enemies scaled up to level 80+ would be great. This was done in Guild Wars 1, and I felt it was a great and fun challenge (when not running gimmicks like Discordway and Sabyway >_> ). Or even adding Elite Areas and/or Elite Missions, like Tombs of the Primeval Kings, the Underworld, or Fissure of Woe.
I realize that Guild Wars 1 and Guild Wars 2 are completely different games. However, it is my belief that there are still many things from Guild Wars 1 that could vastly improve Guild Wars 2, such as the aforementioned changes. I also realize these improvements would take A LOT of work, but I think it’d definitely be worth it. It would improve PvE overall, both Open World and Dungeons.
ADDED: Thanks to Hendo for reminding me, indirectly. Events should take party support, control, etc into account for rewarding players. They also encourage zerker and assassin’s because most events only count the damage you deal. Adding in a system to events that take support, control, and healing into account would be a major improvement as well, for people who enjoy tanking, supporting and controlling instead of mindlessly DPSing.
As always, please remain respectful in your responses and please stay on topic. Thanks.

This is my current favorite Guardian Build. I call it the BoonGuard. The build is purely party support, and revolves around using shouts, virtues, and weapon skills to protect and support the party. The Elite skill can be swapped out at any time for Tome of Courage.
I love the armor set, but the blue is kind of a turn off. Still on the whole i like it, so I bought a set for my thief. I agree with everyone that would like an option to toggle the blue parts one and off. Perhaps hiding and displaying the helm could also toggle the blue parts on and off?
Getting bad lag spikes for a while now. Keep missing the error code, but the general message is “The game client lost connection to the server.” Been getting that several times a day, and it’s really annoying. -.-;
bumping this because I’ve been having the same issue.
