Right now, the only reason to go support is personal playstyle choice, or if you do a lot of dungeons. Anything else is pointless from a rewards point of view.
What they should add to the medal you get from Dynamic Events is amount of healing done within a radius around the enemies, and perhaps amount of damage taken since a tanking build will be able to take more of the damage without dying. Add those 2 numbers along with how much damage you did.
As for determining loot drops off enemies, I think that is fine right now, since you basically just have to do 5-10% damage. If there is a zerg, then you are screwed out of loot anyway.
Thief may or may not be overpowered, but here is the real problem. Everyone stacks maximum damage equipment and traits. When you stack damage and no defense of course you will die in 2 seconds. I play a defensive Guardian and guess what, I have never been killed 1v1 or even 2v1. It might take me a bit longer to kill someone since I can’t burst them down but who cares? It’s about surviving, not getting the biggest crit number.
The OP has not given details of Profession or Build and you assume wrongly that, ‘Everyone stacks maximum damage equipment and traits’.
The point being raised is that the Thief, as is, is being allowed to effectively Gank other players.
If he has not given any details, then your assumptions are no better than mine.
Do you know how I know most people stack damage stats? Because all the bloods are the most expensive crafting item on the Trader. Everyone always talks about maximizing their crit damage. This applies to sPvP, WvW, and PvE.
Have you played WoW? Everyone is so concerned about being top on the damage meter. Diablo 3, all anyone cared about was what their DPS is. This occurs in every game and it is just the mentality most people have. All anyone cares about is having the biggest damage numbers.
I play a Guardian and I have no problems against a Theif. I never said they were or weren’t overpowerd, however most people complaining about them are the same people complaining because they can’t burst them down in 3 seconds.

RIGHT NOW as I am posting this, there are over 15 bots in Despond Precipice on Devona’s Rest. I gave up counting. They have been there for days. They have totally taken over. It is so blatant I can’t believe it. I have never seen this in an AAA MMO before. I switched servers to this one because they were so bad on Dragonbrand. Seriously, this is outrageous.
How do I know they are bots? Because they all follow each other in a single line and they go in a circle around the whole area, 24 hours a day, every day. If you follow them, you can see the waypoints that have been set up that they follow. They will even go if there are no mobs. They don’t really use too many abilities and basically just auto attack. They all have gibberish account names such as [Name removed] . Sometimes they will teleport around, maybe due to lag from being in China, but I can’t say for sure.
How much longer is it going to take? I have bought gems on the store and I would buy more, but I am not spending another dollar on this game until this is fixed. If it takes too long I will probably just abandon this game. I will gladly pay $15 a month to another game that actively takes care of the bot problem.

This game is infested with bots. I counted 6 in one spot on one server. Some in another spot. So I switched servers and there were actually more bots in the same spot. They are everywhere and they are overwhelming everything. This along with the absurdly long queue times for WvW and I am seriously thinking of giving up on this game. This is an awesome game but if I can’t even play it then I am not sticking around.
OP is generally correct. The MMORPG genre of games was never intended for millions of players. It was designed as a niche genre for people who like MUDs or Dungeons & Dragons. They were made for people who like to actually live in a world of fantasy and magic. When WoW came out, it turned the genre into a theme park ride that is fun for a while but then you need more. The term “theme park MMO” wasn’t even around until WoW.
Let’s go back to the beginning of video games themselves. It wasn’t really until the end of the Xbox/PS2 era that video gaming itself became mainstream. Once the Xbox360 and PS3 came out, game publishers have been blowing their loads releasing new games faster than anyone can keep up with. Video games these days are designed for the OCD crowd; always waiting for their next fix. Why do you think DLC is so prevalent now? Look at Borderlands 2 and Darksiders 2. You can buy a Season Pass for DLC that isn’t even released yet. This is insane. Just the words “Season Pass” mean the game is only meant for a short while until the new one comes out.
When new games sell millions of boxes and then 2 months later half the population is gone, that does not mean the game is dying or is bad. These people were never really interested in the game anyway. There’s always something newer and better for most people and that is the way our consumerist society is. Look at the iPhone. Every iteration sells another millions of units. Do you really think there were millions of people who didn’t already have an iPhone waiting for the next one? No, it is the same people always buying the new one to replace the old one, even though there isn’t really anything wrong with the old one.
I have basically used mace/shield from 1-80 and I also use the shield trait. I use 2hand for farming only.
My experience so far with the shield in pvp and pve is I am unkillable. I can solo champion mobs. If I try to switch to a 2hand and fight the same mob, I die.
The shield seems to be more group or pvp oriented. Yeah the focus blocks 3 attacks, but the shield gives 33% damage reduction to yourself and many other people. If you are being focus fired on in pvp, that 33% is WAY better than blocking 3 attacks which the mace can do in the same amount of time anyway. Using Protector’s Strike from a mace and Shield of Judgement, you can have protection up almost all of the time.
I agree with Shield of Absorption; it leaves much to be desired. The cooldown needs to be decreased or the duration needs to be increased to 6 seconds. Another idea is move the healing part to while the shield is up, rather than having to activate the healing and lose the shield, but that might be too good.

Should I be able to get a full set of dungeon skins in 10-20 hours and also have it be an enjoyable, non-grindy esperience as well as rewarding beyond the set of skins I’m buying with tokens (gold, rare drops, etc)? Yes. Can I do that in GW2? No.
I think this is your problem. You are expecting a full set of awesome gear plus other stuff in 10 hours. MMOs just do not work this way. You have to keep your expectations in line with the genre of game this is.
I already have a full set of exotic armour and 2 exotic weapons. I farmed a few hours each night for a week and 1 weekend. This is already super fast. I will have all 5 exotic jewelry pieces by next weekend as well. 2-3 weeks for fully max gear is not that bad.
This is my rig; Win7, 64-bit
i7 processor 3770
NVIDIA GeForce 660ts
12gb DDR3 mem
2tb hdTell me. WHY should I not be able to run games on full settings? WHY should I not be able to play THIS game on full settings?I even grabbed 2 external hd’s just now.
I really REALLY hate it when nosayers just pass by because they wanna say no.
About that 9800 card, I bought it in 2007. Its not 9 years old. Its almost 6. I appologize. Now, please close the door when you leave.
Well basically because you said you run ALL games at max settings with a 630 GT. Now all of a sudden it turned into a 660 TI? Something doesn’t make sense here. Please correct me if I read something wrong.
Anyway, the point is that if a $60 or even $250 card could run all games perfectly fluid, there would be no market for the $500 to $700 graphics card because they wouldn’t do anything. It doesn’t matter how new your card is.
Generally, if you want your computer mainly for games, you are best off buying the 2nd step down from the top cpu, in this case a 3570, and spending the difference on a better graphics card. Or do what I do and buy the best of both.
PS, the 9800 GT Launched in 2008.
I can’t say for sure if there was an Entangle cast since I usually get spammed in WvW. The first time it happened I tried for maybe 2 minutes to move my character, but I could not walk or jump. It is not just for a few seconds, it seems indefinite until I am killed or log out. I have only noticed this after coming out of Shield of Absorption.
It seems to be happening when I use the Guardian skill Shield of Absorption. If I am rooted somehow while the skill is active, after all the effects wear off, I cannot move at all. I have to die or log out. I am stuck in place and it is very frustrating. I have only noticed this in pvp but it might happen in pve as well since I rarely use that skill in pve.
There is no difference wether I play on lowest or highest. My game freezes anyway. And seriously. This graph card is new. I can run ALL other games at max with it.
I really hate when people say they can play all games on max with their $60 gpu or 5 year old computer. Most of the time people have no clue on what they are doing.
NO, you cannot run all games on maximum settings. You can run 1080P, 4x AA, 16xAF, extreme LOD, high res textures, supersampling, HDR, etc. on a 630 GT at 60fps? COME ON ALREADY. And your other quote about a 9800 GT being 9 years old is totally wrong too, that card came out in 2008.
Ambient occlusion is still not working with reflections or supersampling turned on. Kind of disappointing to have to choose between the two.
Try using a Staff, Save Yourselves!, or Retreat!
Staff is not my weapon (s) of choice for combat situations.
Speed is nice when not in combat, retreat is terrible utility unless you are just running and not fighting
Save yourself is nice but it has a long CD. 10% really isnt that much. Just an idea.
Once again, im not trying to complain. Just thought it would be kind of cool.
I disagree about Retreat. I have 30 points in Virtues, and I use Retreat along with Save Yourself and the 20% shorter shout cooldown. I can pretty much be in speed nonstop during fights and Retreat helps keep Retaliation up since I have a Retaliation build. Hold the line is nice, however I have found I rarely need while using a shield.
It also helps keep up an Aegis rotation since there are 4 or 5 abilities which can cast or refresh Aegis, plus the mace block. Keep in mind all of this is for a defensive build.
Does toughness reduce damage from magic and conditions as well as physical attacks?
Does each 1 point in healing add 1 point to the actual health gained by an ability or is it some sort of percentage?
Does power affect damage returned by retaliation?
