CC fields? if you mean etherial combo fields for example null field , time warp and chaos storm have quite high cooldowns also there are not classed as CC as there are not control based skills with the exception of chaos field which is a 1 second daze. Really though for point defense at this moment in time rangers are not usually the prefered profession as they provide a better presence in team fights.

Also in regards to retalliation the damage back from retal is minor from what i’ve seen it’s around 20%-30% i think correct me if i’m wrong. I understand that it’s frustrating to die to conditions believe me dying to two necro’s in foefire is not fun at all, however conditions can be countered you just need to find what works for you.

On more than 1 occasion damage breakdown would show retaliation as highest damage when i die to guards and recently to mesmer too.So that damage is not minor at all.Moreover it should not be part of the game at all.I f i am defending a point and opponent has ret buff i cant run and i cant hit him.I should just stand there and take hits? Cant even strafe properly around him to avoid his damage cause for some reason you cant turn while holding right mouse button or use endurance for short movement speed burst like in AoC.Plus you actually slow down when movinfg in combat when it shoul be the opposite ( adrenaline kicks in etc).

This reply might sound a bit harsh, and I am also not trying to promote myself, just stating that it can be handled with practice and “skill” (for lack of a better word).

I hinted at it at my last post, and I will repeat it again. If you get retaliation or confusion you can either cleanse it (from yourself or the enemy) and lacking that you can simply avoid attacking!
The problem that occurs then (as you have stated) is that he can attack but not you. So, instead of calling the boon/condition OP you might want to think around the problem? The first (and perhaps most obvious, but still most efficient) option is to prevent the enemy from doing damage, putting you back on even ground. How can you do this? Well, perhaps some nice CC? Line of Sight? Dodge rolling?
As you brought up, while holding a point your options are limited, but I consider CC,Block,Evade being all good options, available for all.
Might be sour to get the answer “practice more” or “increase your skill and awareness” but in some cases (a lot of them tbh) it is the only real answer. Let’s not make GW2 into another child’s game, Please!

P.S. This all comes from someone who have a) learned it the hard way and b) uses it on a daily basis with great success. I never ever have ret/conf on the top half of my breakdown. D.S.

Do educate me. Example: Henge point fight in battle of niflhel.You are ranger fighting against confusion/ret mesmer to keep the point. What cc or block you use on him when confusion or retaliation is up and how do you los him without leaving the point? Keep in mind that wolf fear is bugged (simply goes on cd sometimes instead of executing) and is not instant plus wolf is a melee and i dont us it cause of bad pet ai.

and about counter. for me its enough to have null field+ cleanse on heal trait. also if i wanted to be team player, i could get condition removing mantra (removes 2 conditions for all allies, 10s cooldown)

Those are all the skills…no mesmer has them all available at all times.

Ethereal combo fields with confusion and whirl will apply confusion, but we barely have any projectiles skills. And if we do they have no place in a condition build since confusion scales with condition damage. F2 still has a cooldown and shatters all the illusions which again a mesmer also killing of his phantasm dps in the process. And yes some traits apply confusion when you ENTER or LEAVE a 3 different utility skills…which no one mesmer will have on his bar…again only in the rare case he is playing some home brewed condition build.

TL;DR. No mesmer can simultaneously make use of all the above skills in a efficient manner without serious sacrifice in burst damage.

And considering the previous you are basically complaining of a skill that can be avoided and deals less damage over time then other DoTs which condition build classes can apply easily without making combos like mad.

Your only issue here appears that you hate it when someone stacks 8 confusion on you and your attacking with a short bow while using quickness inside a feedback bubble.

Do not put words in my mouth i never said i use quickness and i dont use it actually.Point is i dont run from a fight and i dont want to stand in one place ( while defending a node) while his clones are dpsing me I can only cleanse myself of conditions once per average fight and i can dodge twice after that i am free target.Entire confusion/retaliation concept is crap imo and should not be part of this game.

I play as ranger and use signet to cleanse conditions and stun but its on high cd.If i am for example defending henge point in tpvp i cant run from retaliation or mesmer cc fields which means guards and mesmers can abuse their inherently unfair retaliation and cc abilities.I think that is ridiculous.If someone spams cc or conditions on me every 5 or 10 seconds i should be able to counter that every 5 or 10 seconds.CC and conditions should be auxiliary abilities used tacticly especialy with no healers o heal and cleanse and with toughness not mitigating cond dmg.

SPvP battle on beach point.My team gets defeated and im the only one left dpsing engi against 4 or 5 of them.Engi goes down and im at 5-10% hp.I pop invulnerability and cleanse conditions with signets then dodge forward to downed engi and stomp him while they are trying to down me

Damage breakdown-highest damage from confusion,CC ability that can be spammed also does highest damage and with no consistent counter ( no healers to heal and cleanse and cc/cond removal on high cd ).Can pvp in this game get any more frustrating?

Im gonna agree with what some of the ppl here are saying, as my ranger usually rocks Mesmers no problem. I think you need to re-think your spec if mesmers are are giving you that much trouble. On the other hand I hate Engies they just stomp the every living crap outta me (especially those bunker kittens)

My post is about mesmers having unfair advantage with retaliation they have ( among other things) not about being unable to beat mesmers in general.I am lvl 29 in pvp this is the fist time i have seen ret being highest damage when fighting mesmer,and i think its utter bs.Hence my post.

You are dumb if you think you could achieve anything with an attitude like that.
The only reasonable way mesmers can get Retaliation is from Chaos Storm, which last for like 3s per tick.

If you let the mesmer camp in his Chaos Storm and keep hitting them while that short Retal is up, you’re the one who needs to “l2p”. And you know, there are skills and traits which remove boons as well. Maybe your build was just not made for that fight if it lasted for 5min to begin with.

In tpvp you fight for point control.Ofc he is bloody camping wtf im supposed to do kite him?What skill or trait for ranger removes boons?Am i supposed to enter every match prepared for mesmers only? Im toughness/power traited i cant use sigil remove boon on crit effectively.Only option i have is to dps him down before his clones kill me i dont have time to dance around him when i see his ret buff up.You think ranger can win war of attrition against mesmer? Just kitten and gtfo.

Playing the devils advocate here. Ranger is one of the few, if not the only class, that defeats my mesmer 75+ percent of the time.

Probably because they pop rampage as one when they see you so you cant daze them for 20 seconds.If you can survive that you will proly win.

as stated the retaliation is on the phantasms not the mesmer him self. as a fellow ranger i try very hard to make sure i am hitting the actual mesmer since any number of bad things can happen when you kill an illusion.

Dude i am hitting mesmer ( with sword because shortbow dmage is crap-350 auto attack dmg with 2304 power lol, and sword auto attack is 600+).I cant kindly ask him to move away from his clones.Ans why i shouldnt be able to hit clones? I should stand there and let them dps me to oblivion?That is a good tactic actually next time i meet mesmer 1vs 1 i will just run or let him kill me that would be less frustrating i think.

You just explained why you get steamrolled. Meleeing a Mesmer with a ranger, and killing clones with melee weapons. Tisk, tisk.

ummm i play ranger and im traited for same thing u are and i still pull off 40% crits and 47 crit damage and i know how to kite a mesmer when they use null field and chaso storm let alone chaos armor. i dont want to say l2p but in this case g i would say learn to build. i find my builds to be very effective against all and even mesmers. there isnt anything wrong let him sit in his field and such it wont last long and it will be on cooldown. after that go in and do ya thing also be sure to always have some sort of condi removal on your bar and your golden. if a mesmer is kicking your but with as much toughness u say u have then u def need to learn to build or just l2p like others are telling you.

Just fought mesmer with my ranger 1vs1 in tpvp and lost after about 5 mins of combat.Damage breakdown-highest damage from retaliation.Wtf? with everything they already have retaliation too? PvP in this game is in pre beta stage i think, feels that way anyways.From the little things like you cant turn your character with right mouse button while standing or slowing down to a crawl while in combat even with speed buff to things like retaliation for mesmers or thief hitting you 3-4 times before you can see him.PvP is not fun anymore its just annoying because of huge unfair advantage given to mesmers, thieves and guardians.
Message to pvp devs-L2P noobs before you start developing pvp for a game like GW2.

I agree with OP completely.Downed state mechanic minimizes value of skillful play in spvp and wvw when outnumbered.Yes there are interruption skills and stability but you need those to survive in situation when outnumbered especially against professions with high burst damage and lot of cc abilities, which means they are more than likely unavailable for interrupting rez too.You are also losing valuable time to finish off one person that you should be able to use to fight his teammate.Even if you finish off one guy the other one will most probably kill you because you are sitting duck for a few seconds.Most of spvp battles i was in were won or lost because winning team had just 1 more player (90% or more) and one of the main reasons is downed state mechanic.

For people that say i dont know how to play: Im a rank 26 in pvp if that means i dont know how to play so be it.Played mostly as ranger but also as warrior,necro and engi.
I also wanna offer quick solutions for improving pvp:
1.Increase efficiency of toughness and make it mitigate condition damage instead of nerfing or improving professions because toughness is common to all professions and will enable everyone to stay alive longer when bursted or chain ccd or spammed conditions on or damaged by retaliation.
2.Add focus target feature that enables players to target mesmers and thieves instantly when they come back out of stealth.Improving toughness efficiency is good tradeoff for being targeted cause they can still stealth, teleport,cc etc it just removes unfair advantage that mesmers have right now.
3. Reduce time needed to stomp downed player significantly.

90% of the time team with 1 more player dominates other team by a landfall.This is because there are no viable defensive builds/traits/skills/sigils for all classes that would allow all classes to play defensively if they so desire.Also if you play for example 1vs 2 even if you down 1 player you cant finish him off cause of all interrupts and other player healing him so he just keeps getting up/stealthing/porting away/cloning etc.
Also gameplay for some classes is based on cheap mechanics like retaliation/spamming cc/spamming clones.CC is something that should be used tacticly not being spamed like daze or stun for thief and mesmer are.
There is entirely too much cc and condition damage.Almost every time when im killed its because of condition or retaliation and not all clases are equally equiped to deal with condition damage.Also getting knocked down, dazed knocked back, stunned constantly is annoying.Sure there is stability but cd for that is too long while on the other hand some cc can be spammed almost like for example thief sword/dagger stealth daze. CC puts most of your skills on cd even most of those that you need to counter cc.Our characters are supposed to be heros well i dont feel very heroic being a punching bag for other players spamming cc on me and dpsing me down within 10 seconds if its 1vs2 or more.If i wanted quick paced killing i would play cod not roleplaying games.
