I’m sorry, but I believe you are mistaken. I would say that Guild Wars 2 is an all around better put together game than Guild Wars 1. If you don’t think Guild Wars 2 lived up to expectations, then I have no issue with that whatsoever. I am let down by Guild Wars 2 in a great number of ways, but I still enjoy it enough to come back.
I’m afraid that you are looking through some thickly rose-tinted glasses when looking at Guild Wars 1.
Also, complaining about a really small and easy feature like Bobbleheads on April fools, (which would be quite easy to do) just seems somewhat petty.
It would serve you FAR better to explain the aspects of the game that you say “lack in quality.” Right now your entire post could be summed up easily as: “The feature pack stuff is dumb, this game sucks, fix it now. Guild Wars 1 was better.” Which is not the foundation of a productive conversation.
edit: Seems the quote bugged out during posting, please disregard.
Most people mistake creative criticism for just dumb ranting without even seeing my point.
So will explain what me and many other people feel and leave GW1 just out of it.
- Anet promised a living world where your character means something with dynamic
events etc…
“What did they deliver”…..
Absolute static missions like go there collect that or go there and kill it…
Just because finishing one leading to trigger another one isn’t dynamic in any meanings.
-Anet promised ever changing worlds where no day is like the other and your choices will change the world, they even have it in their commercial videos.
“What did they deliver”….
This is borderline false advertisement. Not a single choice is to make for anyone.
Even made choices are absolutely irrelevant for even a small map.
Exemple: It really doesn’t matter you go to war against Centaurs in Kessex Hill.
You conquer an Outpost or village or whatever, 10 minutes later it’s reset to whatever it has been before. It is incredible useless you even help the people in Kessex Hill because 10 minutes later they awake being a slave in a camp again……
Another example ???? Here we go… Zaithan is killed by absoltely everyone. Of course they are the exact same zombies in exact same numbers and exact same strenght running around even without their main source of power….
-Arena Net promised you can be a real Hero….
“What they delivered”…
They made it impossible to be a hero, they took any tanking ability or game plan even tactics out of the game. While you have trouble to scratch the armor of regular Veterans they cut through your elite ascended armor like butter.
The only thing you can do is to hide in big mops and zerg it down.
This istakes something really important away from me. Be an individual who can change and impact a village or the faith and live of weak citizen who are in need of help.
You are incredible meaningless to the whole world, maps, even villages.
I want real heros, i don’t want to be a zerker…… i want to use skill and being smart to handle things……
I want to scream ……….. We don’t ask how many…. we ask Where… roooaaarrrrrrr…
So and now answer me one thing:
How is creating a different server, offering more dyes, removing more armor, having bobble heads, inviting more zergs like Tequatle fixing this ??
How is this even considered as something they should care about before even touching the important parts.
All that reminds me of a situation in an Office where people complain about earning half salary than the people at neighbor building.
The boss comes in and tells them “i have a huge surprise for all of you”
The people stand up and applaud the boss and cheer for him…….
“Get ready for joy people…… i brought ice cream”
This is exactly the situation right now here in GW2.
I really love the game from GW1 on and i simply don’t want to move to the neighbor building. I am just incredible unhappy how A-Net is destroying this wonderful concept and the chance to create something new and epic.
[quote=3854416;
Besides, these updates are fantastic and I am personally happy about having countless dyes on every character in addition to being able to use an account wardrobe and new traits (not to mention the social benefits from the megaserver system). There are all kinds of players and no single kind of player is a problem, except those that believe that their issues are more important than every other player’s issues. What we need to do is appreciate that a wide variety of people play this game and they all want different things from it, and Anet is doing their best to make GW2 a fantastic game over time. As I said, no MMO is ever finished.
I’m not sure if serious…..
So you take more colors and armor and other useles not practical
mass production stuff over a real cool and interesting game ????
What about you get Sims 3 and just splay in People creation window.
There are endless possibilities, you can dress shirts and pants or even shoes…. simply mind blowing, who thought we see a game where you can even change hair colors and cuts….. AMAZING….
I really start to see why A-Net is going the way they are going.
There must be many more people like you…..
Serious… if i wanna play something interesting and refreshing i don’t wanna get new dyes instead. Guys who wanna play football are not joining a Tennis Club
Well….
any half brained person A-Net should ask !!!!WHY!!!! are people doing champions runs in Queensdale….
- I assume it is because these guys can’t handle the excitement and emotions created by living story, or they can’t stand the pressure in “button2” pressing against a horde of all same looking zombies at Cursed Shore.
Dear A-Net,
before punishing people for looking for something to do,
give them something they like like interesting story or likeable characters,
maybe even characters who are real heros and aren’t the first one who die.
But i also can see the answer to that…..“what do you want, we added the wardrope
and you have way more colors to choose from now. isn’t that ,more than compensating for all that missing exitement”??
Isn’t it obvious ?
- A Dragon awakes
-This time an Asura will be mind controlled
-This Asura tries to get allies and unites them.
-I would guess Tengu and Centaur, Quaggan and Blood Legion
-Ascalon Ghosts and Skelks…..
-These groups pop up randomly everywhere and have to be zerged down.
-Next step is a marionette but this time a Spider with 6 Legs-
-Then all of them team up and destroy uhmm… Hoelbrak or another randomly not story related city.
-The People fight back and have to face 3 Officers who have to be defeated at the same time.
-Asura gets killed in his flying lab…
- All that without any consequences at all…. defeating the marionette or not it doesn’t matter, personal choices made during battles who cares, losing all events leads to a huge victory or the enemy hordes.
-At the end we figure out the Ausran was searching for an ice crystal and in final batlle it falls from his flying lab over Frost Gorge Sound….
-This will trigger a new Dragon to awake…..
-Announce ground breaking breath taking changes and events
-deliver 5 more shades of red dye
-deliver 3 more pets
-deliver 3 more weapons, 1shild looking like a garbage bin lit, a sword lookinf like a phaser gun and a new armor that looks like space suite.
-Being completely surprised by peoples reactions
-Promise to deliver stunning new stuff to make up
Ls3
-Insert random Dragon here
-insert not used mind controlled race here
-insert mindless zombie zerking against randomly made mobs here
-insert random even more boring finally here.
This is how it worked so far….
Disappointed? Yes.
Surprised? No.
Disappointed? Yes.
Surprised? Yes.
Now you get some player putting together a 101 lesson on creative writing pointing out 15 or so major mistakes they made.
If you have to face something like that you did amazingly wrong…… really.
I second that.
And beside that you have to read interviews where A-Net guys talk about how the LS
is like Game of Thrones and how much everyone is tied to the story and super exited how it ends.
I didn’t know if serious or A-Net lives completely in delusion…..
GW2 target group are the teens and youngster and that a lot.
Good luck getting success from a target group that is both in the minority (age group wise) and generally lacking money.
Even ANet is not that stupid.
GW2, with its B2P + cash shop is aiming at the 30+ PC gamers (which are the majority of PC players) who have jobs, families and generally too little time and too much money on their hands.
I am exactly in that 30+ gamers group owning a college degree and bachelor diploma owning an own house and being married and monetary indipendant.
I would love to support GW2 because i feel it could a real nice game.
But do really feel whatever is in that gem store is worth paying for ????
The Armor is incredible ugly and it’s getting worse. The other stuff is as useless as it comes. I still don’t get what a pet is doing or why people would spend money on finishers.
What i try to say is that A-Net’s focus is always on the unimportant parts. When people scream after an expansion they get more dyes, when people ask for creativity they get more Zerg zombie bashing with incredible bad written bosses.
I played GW1 for years and it still fills me with joy i am willing to pay money and
give out my opinions.
Me and a lot of peoples who are alike me should be the priority target group
of A-Net.
Sadly we are unheard
Bring back the charm and excitement back that made GW1 to awesome.
{snip}
everything else would be a huge disappointment and kitten the sould of all your loyal GW1 players
You do know GW1 didn’t disappear right? You could always go back…
Yeah right………………… the regular always defeating answer.
If you don’t like it go somewhere else.
Problem is i loved GW1 and it disturbs me how easily pleased the kids are these days.
An of course they release something without any creativity and efford because it’s enough for people like you.
They will face what everyone else is facing from movie to music industry.
Plain and effortless mass production leads to people turning away
and i really don’t want it.
maybe i am difficult to please but i feel insulted by these changes being called incredible game changing content.
i am just not stupid enough to watch 40 more grey shades on my armor and applaud how great A-Net did when all super important missing pieces haven’t even been touched
Wait a moment………………
we need more personal story and interesting stuff stuff and less million stupid kids zerker raids !!!!! Period
Dear A-Net……
I followed the new build block very carefully day by day. and i have to say i don’t know what to say.
This game lacks so much in quality, in story, in skill actually in everything but graphics.
With all that present you guys care about a wardrope to change armors and dyes ??
You main focus is to build a “Mega-Server” ??? Amor repairing cost nothing anymore ?
Bobble head for April jokes ??
Serious ??
What about you guys start caring in presenting a fine and interesting product ?
I couldn’t care less that they guys on my map are interested in same game experience or behavior…. I couldn’t care less my armor is adapting to whatever i unlocked….
really…..
Bring back the charm and excitement back that made GW1 to awesome.
After that you can care about having 247 more grey shade dyes or moving 12 trees
in Claypool.
I just hope you guys are forced to all that by your investors….
everything else would be a huge disappointment and kitten the sould of all your loyal GW1 players
Guys…. i know it is sad….
but people like us, the yearlong GW1 player who are in their 20’s or 30’s aren’t the target group anymore.
It is like in every Industry. You target as much people as you can and appeal to their lowest desires. GW2 target group are the teens and youngster and that a lot.
These days youth isn’t interested in something skill related or interesting. Everything is fine as long as no effort or thought process is involved.
They really love mass zerking zombie stuff. Press button 1 as fast as you can and bring 100 friends….
And who can blame them ????
They never experienced the awesomeness of GW1. They don’t know how it feels to plan a dungeon or adjust to a especially hard boss…
Heck they didn’t even experience to be equipped with a selection of skills.
i think i speak for all of us who have memories of the big jellyfish at jade ocean where a ranger was required to interrupt the special skill….
The awesomeness of the lava worm under Eye of the North where zerking was going nowhere…. no you had to play around with the black powder bombs from the dwarf….
Just epic stuff where you could control the skills of your hero that leads to control the environment like blocking with stands or Armor, energy management for Rangers and Eles…………
No my friends…. these days are over :-(
We face times where all classes are same to do what all other classes can do…. well except armor or tactics or gameplans………..
All that is mixed with incredible poorly written monster and bosses
wrapped up in an incredible flat story and always repeating zerker events….
My friends… it is not time to mourn about Lions Arch… it is time to remember memories and emotions we connect so happily with GW1
Awesome guys………… thx for the Blackgate advice it worked perfectly.
Is Anvil Rock so underpopulated to cleanse Temples????
I appreciate all comments.
The problem is that i have actually a job and can’t time my life after GW2.
When i come on at evenings all events are usually done and all Temples are closed
Dear A-Net…..
Is it possible to move the Karma/Obsidian trader to another location ????
It is absolutely not possible at any server to find people to cleanse Balthasar.
Since this is the only way to get Obsidian shards at a resonable rate of time
it is impossible for me as casual gamer to finish my legendary weapon.
thx in advance
If living story make it shorter…………….. not longer than 6 month.
!!!!!!Make the living Story living!!!!!! descisions and fights have an impact on future stuff.
Nothing is worse than losing constantly against the Marionette and winning the fight after 2 weeks are over……… serious ????
-give me my Elona and Cantha back
-Actually write a story and force the story writer to play guild wars 1.
Especially the 3 Crystal desert missions to prove you are worthy or the lava worm under Eye of the North, that will teach them a lesson about creativity.
-And for gad sakes get rid of dps zerker bosses. Bring back creativity and planning to defeat bosses. I am not social enough to collect 150 players and keep pushing button 1 to defeat a boss.
-Please release who is responsible for the monster mechanic designs.
Everyone can create a Monster who is un-defeatable.
In GW 1 you had to learn how the opponent works and then interfere when he plays his power skill or don’t touch him and carry bombs around to damage……
I would even be happy to bring back the exact Bosses back from GW1 if A-Net isn’t able to create new ones.
-And most important………… bring back skills to learn, change and combine as you wish.
Traid system is over complicated and Skillsystem is over simplyfied.
Just step away from making the game for 10 year old kids who have never seen
GW 1.
-Bring back the glory, skills, creativity and the worlds of GW1 and mix it with graphics, crafting, trading post and gem store from GW2.
-last but not least a personal request…. fire the guy who is responsible for the Zodiac Armor. He is either drunk or stoned at work
best regards……. someone who played GW1 and GW2 for many many years and actually cares about the game
oh my oh my….
I don’t even know where to start.
First of all the LS isn’t a LS. It is an ever repeating process of grinding
undefeatable group hack n’ slays.
It started with Queen Jennahs Arena divided into quarters to just grind down groups of enemys…. followed by grinding down groups of opponents in open areas… followed
by grinding down groups of monsters followed by undefeatable overlords like marionette…. followed by grinding down Lions Archs monsters… followed by Assault Knights and Scarlett herself…………
All that is always repeating and super boring, i don’t have seen a single person who is attached to the story.
Arena Net should really keep an eye on what they focus on.
if 3-4 players play the super main event at rush hours, something is really wrong.
And i understand people…. grinding down a huge opponent for 30 minutes
and recieve a blue hammer and agreen spear is laughable. Mix that with recieving
billions of blue bags with stuff you can’t even use if you want to to.
….. Most important…. the bosses are not demanding at all… the only thing that makes
it difficult is to beat the clock.
A-Net tends to that stuff lately….. If you wanna make it annoying put a timer on,
no skill, no tactics, no plan involved…. just be lucky to collect over 150 keyboard player and hope to defeat.
That brings me to the next topic the combat system….
You really shine if GW2 if you are a professional keyboard player…. just pressing buttons without any skill needed.
Just remember back GW1… ranger as example… you have to have a real good energy
management to stay in combat and be efficient.
Same with Warriors…. finding the balance of Energy and stands as example involved planing and skill……….
All that is gone by boring keyboard playing and grinding always same monsters….
GW2 isn’t a bad game at all…………… but A-Net has to make the next step or the game will collapse. We need new areas… maybe going back to have 2 classes on 1 character.
Going back to choosable skills and fix the weapons….
Fantasy role playing has something outstanding, it’s a shield-sword combo.
Every movie, every book every fantasy related thing has that combo as signature.
Only here in GW2 blade n plate combo is unusable. Sword is for any reason not damging and shield is completely garbage because it hasn’t the ability it is made for… protect you from close combat and ranged weapons.
But this is just a minor issue compare to what’s going wrong.
My 2 cents are that If A-net keeps on focusing on little mindless zombie kids as customers who are happy with everything multi colored and and moving
they will go down.
please Arena Net….. listen to your fan base and make the next step.
Just a little hint !!!!! Having a fixed outcome where it doesn’t matter you win or lose
is not a living story !!!!!!
Let player face consequences… maybe let them even rebuild ORR after the dragon is destroyed….
Let them fight for areas with rare material to rebuild palaces and villages…
let must contributing guild have statues of honor there…
something that is a “REAL” changing story… please i beg you get back to creativity
instead painting existing opponents a different color and call it a new story.
Be something special, be outstanding….. and people will gladly soak up the ingame
and will gladly pay for expansions and real money shop stuff…..
that brings me to my last point…. the in game shop……….
really ????
I would love to spend money there but i just can’t.
I am a big time fan of fantasy games…. and that makes it impossible for me to even consider the shop.
I have absolutely no idea why i am confronted with cyborg, technical nonsense, starships., laser guns, computers….. ect..
Everything i want as fantasy fan isn’t available but every not fantasy related is ?
I want cool armors, cool weapons…. just more fantasy… sparkling magic…
What i don’t want is to fight the borg some day and get implants from your shop.
well… i could go on and on…….
but please… take the next step and go away from what didn’t work and will never work.
best regards…….
