OK, I’ll grant you that WoW’s LFG system is lifeless and boring.

But the system that GW2 uses (i.e. no system at all) is worse. Spamming map chat for 20-30 minutes isn’t fun. Seeing everyone else spam map chat constantly isn’t fun. Being suppressed for asking in map chat isn’t fun.

WoW used to have a channel for LFG. It didn’t solve the first problem, but it more or less solved the other two. GW2 could at least do that much.

Hell, I’d be happy if they at least deployed patches at a consistent time so that we could plan around it.

Excited to start a Guardian tonight.

I’ve been using the Greatsword to level. When I used other weapons, I had some difficulty tagging enemies when other players (and bots) zerged events. The #3 ability on Greatsword solves that problem.

BlackDeath.8106: How many US servers are there? How many non-US servers are there?

according to my list 24 USA servers 27 Europe Servers
Plus this doesnt count all the Australian and Asian and their timezones.

So to me more non-American timezones than American playing

This isn’t the entire world vs. America’s three mainland time zones (sorry, HI and AK!). Pick three time zones. Unless they’re in Europe, they don’t have more players than the US. Even then, I’m willing to wager that we have more players than Europe does.

If they were to deploy the patch at midnight Pacific, who would lose? The center of Australia (very sparsely populated), part of Japan, and a strip of Russia. I’m absolutely sure that the US has more players than those regions.

Update at prime time...not cool, bro.

Since im playing on US servers. I become an American now? Think about it.

You’re just arguing for the sake of it. You know that there are more US players than there are players in any other time zone.

Sindariel.2354:

1. America is not tiny.
2. We have more players than any other time zones. We definitely have more players than whatever timezone might have suffered if they deployed the update at midnight Pacific time.

Thanks Anet for the great patch.

It will always be prime time for someone.

Which is why they should deploy patches when it’s prime time for the fewest number of players. In other words, not at 9:30 Eastern.

Why cant we deposit all materials into Collectables?

It’s not “unfinished.” Rare+ crafting mats do not have slots in the collectibles pane by design. They’re special items for special recipes, many of which you will never see a single drop of from 1-80. Having them in collectibles would A) Send the wrong message about them, Clutter up the collectibles pane, and C) Remove any aspect of unexpected discovery.

A) Precisely what wrong message would this send?
B) Nonsense. All they’d have to do is make another tab for them below the fine crafting materials.
C) Nonsense. You’d still have to discover everything that you currently have to discover. I fail to see how adding “Onyx Shard” to the collectables pane would remove any aspect of unexpected discovery. These materials instantly appear in the discovery tab anyway.

I have about a dozen different things in my bags that are used solely for crafting and can’t be placed in the collectables tab. These aren’t items that I crafted. They’re base materials. The wiki lists 40 such “Rare Crafting Materials” and these don’t even include Ectoplasm.

No, you don't get to play "however you want."

Some of us don’t have much time to play during the week. If we want to instead play all day on Saturday, why shouldn’t we be able to? The DR system sucks for players and doesn’t stop bots. It’s like DRM. It needs to go.

How is it October in Monthly Achievements already??

1. The wiki tells you that daily and monthly achievements reset at midnight UTC.
2. ArenaNet mentioned the reset time in the 8 September status update.
3. Daily achievements have been resetting at midnight UTC every day since launch.

I can understand if you missed the first two, but surely you noticed the reset time for your daily achievements.

So the monthly achievements reset a whole day early

In fairness, ArenaNet definitely posted that daily and monthly achievements reset at GMT midnight. Also, the daily achievements have been resetting at that time all month. It’s your own kitten fault for not finishing everything in time.

Lacking in Classes Function....

Well, it’s the thing that’s going to make me give up the game pretty soon.
There’s no “feel” for classes, they lack personality. The fact that you’re restricted to such a few skills doesn’t help.

Care to elaborate? You have 10 skill slots and weapon swapping in combat, for a total of 15 skills at any point in time. On top of that, you can choose other weapon sets and select from dozens of utility / elite skills. You also have access to some special abilities (the “F” keys) plus your downed skills. Then there are 5 different trait lines to choose from for further customization. And, all of the above are unique for each class with the exception of some racial abilities. I don’t understand where you’re coming from.

OK, but let’s be realistic. Your traits largely define what skills you’ll use (or the other way, if you prefer). You aren’t going to take trait lines that benefit two-handed weapons and shouts and then use all signet skills and a dagger. This isn’t a big problem in SPvP, but it certainly is a limiting factor in PvE and WvW since respecs aren’t free and trainers aren’t always easily accessible. Plus, you need to consider gear. Some weapons, skills, and traits work well with Condition Damage. Others work well with Power. Maybe your support build calls for Healing Power and lots of Vitality and Toughness to keep you alive. Again, this isn’t a problem in SPvP, but it cam be quite an expensive limitation elsewhere.

Now, I’m OK with all of that. I’m not complaining! But your description isn’t very reflective of the in-game situation and I wanted to respond to that.

More to the OP, but still related to the post that I quoted, one should consider the skills that are actually available to each class. Yes, every class has its own few unique features (e.g. Virtues for Guardian), but many of the skills are shared between classes. How many classes have signets? Shouts? Sure, the actual skills vary ever so slightly (e.g. multiple classes have a signet that removes a condition every 10 seconds, but the activation effects are somewhat different in each case), but the idea is the same. The flavor is the same.

They’re only cosmetic rewards anyways, so you’re not missing out on too much.

But just about everything in this game is a cosmetic reward. In fact, the entire point of the game (after having fun) seems to be finding your favorite skins and working toward them. So, your point has no merit.

Anyway, the OP is free to buy GW1 and grind the rewards like everyone else. When GW1 is no longer available, then we’ll have a problem.

Your non-normal pronunciation doesn’t change what I said. The word “generally” wasn’t there by accident.

I’m also American, and your pronunciation is the non-normal one.

Look, this is easy to show. Ford makes a car called the Taurus. In all of their advertising, they call it the “tore us”. In fact, I’d bet that you cannot find a single example of anyone saying “tar us” in American pop culture. For what it’s worth, the classical pronunciation of the Latin word “Taurus” is more like “tow roos” where the “ow” sounds like “ouch”.

None of this matters, though. It’s clear that the voice actors in this game made up their own dialect of English that kittenizes all foreign words and sounds rather silly.

I’d never ever heard the word “quay” until I spent a few months in Ireland. It’s definitely said like “key” there. Do other Americans even use that word?

For what it’s worth, all of the German- and Norse-sounding words in the Norn areas are also pronounced poorly. The most obvious example is “Knut”, which is most definitely not pronounced as “newt”. It’s cuh-newt. The “k” isn’t silent. So annoying…
