We did it with 5 people, make sure you use something like Teamspeak to stay in communication. 4 damage dealers and a healer support will do. Just keep going at it till you get it. We got it on first try.

OP, the did state before HoT was launched that the Arena, or any guild hall things, would REQUIRE the Expansion. Don’t blame them for not letting you know, when they did.

As far as a depression? I thought this would be about the state of the economy. I thought this would be about how the game is a gold sink. No, your argument only points to Guild Halls. That’s it. Yes, Ghalls are a gold sink. They are in every game. But that doesn’t make a depression. The economy is crashing super hard. It is very difficult to make money in this game now. But not because of ghalls. Your argument is flawed.

I’m making about 100g a day simply by doing a few material conversions. Then I go and enjoy the rest of the game. Making gold isn’t hard, its just not the way people want to.

Actually, if you don’t care about your guild its easy. Just about anything thats even mildly required for guilds or scribing is sold for obscene ammounts, for those that do care about their guilds, and their guild halls, its not that easy.

EXACTLY – Lone players that don’t really belong to guilds/have a lot of loyalty in terms of how much they are willing to contribute wouldn’t understand. A good portion of these upgrades in the Guild Hall are MANDATORY for viability to WvW, and you can’t just shrug that off. That’s an entire aspect of gameplay that’s been cut-off, and for some players, WvW is the reason they play the game. They have no interest in sPvP or PvE. They have never been punished for this before; why start now?

As for how this is about the economy…HAVE YOU SEEN the costs of mandatory upgrades? They devastated the economy, shaking it to the core. I feel like we’ve gone through over 5000 Elder Wood Planks, 5000 Mithril Ingots and we are only level 18.

To increase our WvW upgrades to claim towers, we need to get Mine Exploration tier 2 as well as upgrade the capacity to the next tier. This is YET MORE Elder Wood, Mithril, and of course already about 100 Bloodstone Bricks. The next upgrades we need are going to require 90g solid of just Major Rune of Holding…

It should be time-gated behind guild quests, not gated behind gold. This is absurd.

Tell me the problem with gating the guild halls behind a limiter of time? It makes it fair to everyone, from 5 man guilds to 500 man guilds.

I’ve said it in my original post and I’ll say this again; I’m not suggesting punishing larger guilds by increasing the costs of the upgrades.
I’m saying make them TIME GATED. This is what I propose:
NO GUILD HALL UPGRADE ITEMS SHOULD BE TRADEABLE TO OTHER PLAYERS
-Right now, there is a massive chokehold strain on resources for the Guild Hall…yes, it’s been thinning out, only because many guilds have run out of money to throw at this.

All materials for upgrading the Guild Halls should be materials found/farmed/looted within the Guild Hall itself. The mine should have MINING NODES. There should be a garden, herbs in the water areas or fountains, a little farm with a few animals that can be slain for special items strictly for upgrading the Guild Hall. Things of this nature (doesn’t have to be exactly like it).

Upgrades like the mining node synthesizer should be actually cost-effective. Make them able to pay for themselves in the long run. They should spawn a few extra nodes in the mine, nodes the NPC’s can utilize towards the Guild Hall and provide players a few collectible mats for their banks.

TIME GATE THE GUILD HALL. I have the PERFECT idea! It took a mission that took anywhere from 5 to 200 players to get the Guild Hall, right?
Make it so that each week, a “Guild Hall Grand Quest” becomes available for the guild to complete. This quest contains an item that is necessary for an upgrade for specific parts of the Guild Hall. Make it so that it would take 24 Guild Hall Grand Quests (6 months) to complete the hall (OR LONGER, MAYBE A YEAR!).
These quests are complete-able for 5 to 200 members. Each week it’s a new quest, sort of like a story mode feature or lore filler.
Allow guilds to prioritize important quest-line sections (WvW upgrades for example).
THIS WAY IT DOESN’T AFFECT GUILD SIZES IN THE SLIGHTEST AND WON’T PUNISH SMALLER OR LARGER GUILDS.

Finally, these Guild Hall Grand Quests themselves should be time-gated to the world servers, and work retro-actively. This means a guild might miss a week, that means the next week they get to do the previous week’s quest and the new one. Or, a new guild formed 2 months into this program will have 8 Guild Hall Grand Quests available.

This doesn’t have to be hard, it doesn’t have to be something to argue about.
ANET. Players around the world!
-We just want to play a game and have fun! This solution works for everyone.

Guild Halls aren’t meant for small guilds. Sure they made it so a group of 5 can capture it, but the upgrade are costly. This was done so you can only earn them if you’re willing to invest into your guild. It’s not fair for small guilds to get cheaper upgrades over larger guilds.

Here’s what I would recommend. Either you expand your guild and bring in more members who are willing to help upgrade, or join a larger, more established guild.

Smaller guilds shouldn’t be punished for being smaller, or told “deal with it”.
Guild Hall progress should have been gated behind TIME, not GOLD. Make it so any guild from 5 people to 500 can do it, but the minimum is say, 5 months to get to max, but overall gold it takes is under $1000 gold. Make it so the resources needed for the Guild Hall upgrades for each type are reliant upon materials gathered from each type. (WvW upgrades should only require WvW materials, and so on and so forth with the rest)

This game has prided itself on a system that allowed even the smallest guilds to be viable for as long as the game has been online. This is a huge slap in the face to the smaller guilds.

Also, it’s all good and well to tell someone to “just start recruiting” however have you not noticed how hard it is to recruit these days? This game turned into WoW overnight with the new Guild Hall system that means higher level guilds are more attractive to players looking for a guild. They are more likely to join a massive high level guild where they might be asked to contribute 2 gold a day to upgrades, instead of a smaller guild where they might be asked to go out of pocket for thousands of materials at a constant rate.

Personally, I’ve spent about $100 on game gold to purchase materials for our upgrades. We have other players contributing, but it’s hugely disheartening to feel as though the greatest efforts of the few are barely getting us anywhere. We are currently focused now on getting our Scriber up and WvW upgrades to viability, but the Scribing costs thousands of Coarse Sand. This is BS.

Not going to disagree with your observations, but the solution is not to put so much focus on the Gall Halls. Think about it. Guild Halls and the new Legendaries are where this gold sink is. As you pointed out the end result of all the hard work for these upgrades isn’t really of great value. Obtaining the Hall is still not that difficult, the upgrades are clearly a gold sink.

All F2P games funnel players to the cash shop. Do you really believe the only fun/value in the game comes from Guild Hall amenities and new Legendary Crafting? Be rational. I evaulted long ago that Legendarily weapons in general are not worth the effort given their nominal stat increase. Legendary armor is going to be for the top 10% of PvE players who focus on Raids during their time in game. If you must have these things to find any fun in the game and you don’t want to grind then I would agree it’s time to move on from GW2.

I think they provide plenty of content for the asking price of the expansion but for the end-game (Guild Hall upgrades [time gated so I do classify this as end-game], Raids and of course Legendarily) if you want to delve into the end-game content it absolutely has been designed to send you to the gem store with mastercard in hand often or to spend a lotof time in game grinding. This is a sustainable business model.

Absolutely incorrect. The dramatic damage the Guild Hall changes have done to WvW guild abilities is devastating. Guilds that focus on WvW and don’t touch PvE are now completely screwed.

Let’s face it:
Heart of Thorns is a goldsink. Not just any kind of optional goldsink that doesn’t hinder gameplay; it’s a mandatory goldsink that is bankrupting small guilds and likely has brought in a ton of revenue to the gem store in the form of buying gold.

This is a small compendium of issues my fellow guildies and myself have noticed that are completely ruining gameplay.

Firstly: The Guild Hall:
The expense of everything in it is WAY too high. Some guilds only have a few members but are Commanders that run WvW zergs. We can no longer cost-effectively afford to operate defenses on towers, keeps and camps. We are in Tier 2, yet haven’t seen any towers or keeps running these Tactivaters from any faction. No one can afford to get to the upgrades, and if they can, they certainly can’t afford to put them onto assets that will likely flip soon.
Legendary Crafting: Scribing Edition:
Scribing is not a crafting profession. A crafting profession is one that any player can pick up and within a few days or a few weeks, make their way to the max. Unfortunately, this is not the case; it takes an ENTIRE GUILD to fund one player to level scribing, which demands resources which are necessary all over the Guild Hall upgrades.

I get the massive costs involved in the Guild Hall are considered by many [large guilds] to be negligible; it’s true that a guild with 200 active members can get away with a cost of only 1 or 2 gold a day on these upgrades, whereas smaller guilds are bankrupted with costs of 50-60 gold per day. Players are now less likely to be recruited into smaller guilds if they think they might become liable for sharing in such a massive burden, when they can easily join a larger one for cheaper fees.

Guild Arena Requiring Expansion:
Our guild is a great small guild example: We have maybe 6 members with expansion, and another 15 or so active members without the expansion. Many of our players who didn’t own the expansion helped get the Arena 2 Restoration upgrade; only to discover that they were LOCKED OUT from using it. This made several of them stop playing immediately. There was no warning or caution. No heads up. Just a slap in the face.

Cost-Justification of Upgrades:
No upgrades are cost-effective. The resources that go into the synthesized nodes will never be paid off by the nodes they make.

Guild Portal:
After finally getting this, we realize it goes to 2 places and mission locations. WHAT?
It should be able to go to any Waypoint the operator has unlocked and chosen. This would justify the upgrade.

Onto The Next Issue: Dragon’s Stand:
…seriously?

One of the most vital resources to the Guild Hall lies in Dragon’s Stand, during the event…the event that only comes up once with a 2 hour cooldown…the event that usually fails quickly then you’re stuck waiting yet another 2 hours for. WHO HAS TIME FOR THIS?!?! Most adult players only get a couple hours at time to play; this requires us to essentially watch a Dragon Timer and wait for a painful event that likely won’t net the resource we need.

The Fix:

Things necessary to gameplay equality (WvW upgrades mainly) should be comparatively and relatively cheap. This should be primarily timegated, not held back by gold.

Make Dragon’s Stand event trigger more frequently and not rely on the World Timer. If one server’s event has failed, another one should be just starting.

Lower ALL Guild Hall costs. Seriously. We won’t demand our gold back or anything, but please lower the costs.

Make the Arena 2 available to all players to use, not just the Expansioneers.
-MAKE THIS RETROACTIVE TO ANY OTHER UPGRADES LIKE THIS

Make the Guild Portal capable of Portalling any players to a location the operator has available.

This is all I have for now, thinking about doing a thought-out video to further spread the message.

fyi, capturing a guild hall is scaled, a larger guild that field more people actually has more difficulty getting the guild hall compare to a 5-men team. so ur argument is invalid.

Not really invalidating any part of the argument, as once the hall is captured it’s still on a FAST track to being upgraded by a huge guild.
If anything, you invalidated your own argument by bringing in the one and only feature that makes things harder for big guilds, especially when they might just do it with 5 officers.

i didn’t spam about guild level though there is one or two out of the many that asked for guild level, i simply ignore them. why invite ppl who only cares about guild level into the guild anyway.

True; however WvW players would need this. Whichever WvW guild first gets Tower Claiming, among the other WvW upgrades, will become the powerhouse on that server.
They took away so many features from WvW players that now have to struggle to get it back. That’s beyond stupid.

I mean really, if you were new into the game or a solo leveled player, what guild would you choose to be recruited by?
“We are XXXXX guild with a level 40 guild hall and 400 active members!”
or
“We are XXXXX guild with a level 16 guild hall and 8 active members!”

Sorry, but the guy would choose the big guild. Every. Stinking. Time.

Guild Halls’ primary resource focuses should be with things found only in the guild hall area itself. Think like how WoW did their Garrisons. By thrusting the guild halls into the trading post, they’ve devastated the economy.

I’m sorry, but it IS a competition. Already now, the biggest thing in recruiting for guilds is having a high level guild hall. Guilds are already spamming everywhere “we have XX level guild hall” since this is EXACTLY what WoW did, it will result the same way: Players will gravitate to be recruited by the big guilds, not the little ones.

Guild Halls shouldn’t be used to divide players and this is what is currently happening.

Guild Hall Grind

Lacuda.8543

So, the current Guild Hall upgrading structure is in dire need of a fix.

Premise of this argument:
If it can take 5 people to capture the guild hall, those same 5 should be able to competitively keep up with upgrading the guild hall as anyone else

We took the guild hall with 5 people, and between us have not only spent a fortune (almost 2k gold worth of resources) but we are seeing other guilds pushing through ahead of us. Why?

Because the structure is catered to be extremely easy and affordable for a massive guild yet extremely costly and almost PUNISHING for a small guild.

I’m not complaining about the need for it to be expensive (so that not everyone can get it super easily) however these upgrades are FAR too expensive for smaller guilds to handle.

Guild Wars, in it’s VERY NAME, takes pride in a game that allows people to utilize guilds, no matter the size of the guild or the quality of its members’ strengths. Up until this expansion, all guilds had pretty much the same ability (ours is a smaller guild, yet we were usually able to keep up with guild missions and all that). In WvW we could create zergs and claim towers and the only cost to that was the Honor that we got through our efforts in that very battlefield.

THE FIX:
It’s become increasingly clear that something needs to be different, what I propose is a system where the guild operates in the background of gameplay, even when nobody is there. Much like the Aetherium mining, the guild is gaining in resources and npcs even if nobody is online, however this operates at a cost of the players needing to be active, completing missions.
UPGRADING THE GUILD HALL SHOULD BE LIKE CAPTURING IT, DONE WITH MISSIONS THAT ANYWHERE FROM 5 TO 200 CAN BE PARTICIPATING IN
It should have time limitations on it, so at the minimum it takes at least say, 3 months to get to full, with the richest, largest guild hitting it at the same time as the most dedicated 5 man team.

So, I fell in love with the Marauder’s set in sPvP, and I decided to craft it for WvW and PvE.
I went to the Master Crafters, bought the recipes for the inscriptions and insignias, then went to town. I made a full set of armor, weapons and trinkets, pardon one rather annoying to find piece.

The back armor. Where the hell do I get this? It shouldn’t be any more difficult than the other pieces, so A-Net, what’s up? Where’s it hiding?

Super Adventure Box Suggested Additions

Lacuda.8543

Super Adventure Box will return someday. The jumping community is waiting with baited breath. In the meantime we have some awesome suggestions that I think Guild Wars 2 would really benefit from!

Some of us think this will be a huge event. SAB was a smash hit and many players really enjoyed all the fun it brought to the game. Thing is, it only brought fun to such a small part! This time, it would be great if it was for everyone!

WvW should get a 2 week or 1 month them on SAB:
~Keeps and Towers have a 4th tier of upgrading that makes them look like they belong in SAB with 8-bit or 16-bit coloring and a blocky look to the walls. This tier does not have to provide any statistical benefit.
~All siege should get themed for SAB and get a “Super” prefix attached to them. For example a holographic “Super Omega Siege Golem” that fires off 8-bit rockets with the same trails that the SAB finisher has.
~Golems’ shield bubbles should change their visuals to look like a big box, possibly with rounded corners.
I think that’s good enough and not too much to ask for, especially after what we saw with the Lunar event!

..one other suggestion would be an item that’s similar to Team Fortress 2’s “Pyrovision Goggles” which would make the entire gameworld look SAB themed to players that wear it.

This isn’t an exploit.

Really? Please, do go on about what makes this NOT an exploit. Provide in detail to me and everyone else how this does not in any way affect the economy, or the abilities of other players to progress their own missions in the area, even for world completion.

Please, show me how there are mobs in every single zone that allow all players do this equally and evenly despite whatever level they may be.
If you can’t, then I am afraid there’s a problem. You see, an exploit (if you need the definition for understanding, can be found here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Exploit_%28video_gaming%29 ) is something that not everyone has the ability to fairly perform, and, even though the game mechanic is working as designed, it is not however working as intended. As such, we are seeing this mob being treated as an unlimited drop supply, which is not in any way what the Guild Wars 2 devs had in mind.

The most joyous thoughts I have from this, is that the devs can do here what they did in Everquest II after a similar exploit: remove the money and items generated by the players that participated in these events, possibly even performing a roll-back on these accounts. Such an action can be traced and each account separated from the rest. I’m certain anyone getting more than say, 40 stacks of moldy bags would count in.
My honest hope is that these exploit farmers, that spent hours doing this, get their accounts rolled-back, and the commanders in charge and directing players to cheat be banned.

Arena-net, this is a very good chance for you to show players that believe in fair play that you have your heads in the game.
