Headed to sleep after logging at least 12 hours in WvW today O_O Huge thanks to Commander Garban Yahoo who managed TCBL for at least that long, and longer I think today – patiently guiding our militia and teaching everyone. Very proud of the Toast <3
Also props to FA – you guys have got some very nasty 4-5 man camp flipping teams that I swear we threw 10-12 bodies at trying to wipe in various camps – and they held on, and on… and on! O_O
Cheers to FA and DB both for some fun fights and moments – really enjoying our matchups! Best of luck!
Just wanted to shout out to the FA thief who was just running around near Woodhaven in TCBL (had an uplevel ele along for awhile), guild tag [SoS] – you had me laughing – was quite fun. <3 Good luck to you guys. =)
I enjoy most of the sounds in the game – and many are actually wonderfully done.
I would be -endlessly- happy, however, if someone would PLEASE strangle the woman in Hoelbrak (mentioned by the OP): “Take heed! I haven’t taken leave of my senses!” GAHHHHdasghgsd…. for some reason that line just makes me nuts!
There is still the audio bug involving “exaggerated” whispers – I remember posting about it way back during the BWE’s – in certain areas of Wayfarer Foothills (mainly near the TP/all the NPCs in that area) you can still hear it – overly loud, breathy whispering.
I agree 100% with considering dropping the chance you’ll hear “For Great Justice,” and -especially- with the post concerning ele’s shouts on attunement swap – I also have a female sylvari ele and I wish we’d only hear it during certain situations as the poster suggested, or perhaps 25% of the time?
+1 to OP’s timer suggestions.
Anyone who does sentry work in WvW, especially during low coverage hours, knows that 30 minutes is just way too short for defensive siege. An hour we can work with, lol.
It’s that time again, folks!
Happy reset eve!
Oolune you are brilliant. God I’m crying from laughter.
Our tribute to Lord Flame Ram this morning on MGBL
We died for our efforts, but we hope you appreciate the sentiment .. we even tried knocking on the door after we finished building to offer cookies .. there was no reply for a while .. then a bunch of angry red guys came out .. guess they don’t like cookies
lol, I adore you Jayne. <3
edit: Also want to give my props to [AoN] – you guys are some of the best I’ve seen in any tier. Well done. =)
(edited by Lauren.3061)
-cheers- wtg Blackgate! Apologies for poking into T1 thread! Us TC’ers miss you guys. <3 =(
/salute BG and KN for an awesome match.
BG, especially going to miss you guys. Last time you left I missed you and I will again. Your community is an amazing group of folks – respectful, decent people. We’re partying in the EB JP right now and having a lot of fun. /cry – good luck in Tier 1 and I hope to see both you and KN again soon.
Whew, that was awesome to watch. That section where you were kicking kitten -in- one of our camps, with a (appeared to be buffed!) supervisor slamming you along with 3 or so of our defenders… dang dude! LOL.
Also as always, props to you, and your friends, and a huge majority of the BG community – often with /salutes and /bows after fights, always respectful and cool. Love you guys! Cya out there! =)
edit: I loved your music choice too! haha.
Props to BG and KN this matchup, and reading this thread as been just amazing. Great group of people we have here. BG folks so often /bow after a kill, and as small of a thing as that is, it’s respectful and just shows are awesome you guys are. <3
Looking forward to more!
I never played this storyline but now I’m incredibly curious to do so given people think it’s so tough. =D Sounds fun! -rolling a human alt for this story when I get home-
I’ve hit some tricky storylines too but hang in there and keep trying – I know this sounds stupid and eyeroll-worthy but you really do learn a ton about your profession this way. I will say that it seems this might be a bit difficult for someone brand new to GW2 as one of their first experiences with story quests.
What I usually do if I’m in a WvW map is logout to the “Character Select” screen, then re-enter on the same character. Then I wind back up on whatever map I queue’ed in from. I usually lag a bit heading into LA so this is faster for me. But this way I know I’m recognized as being in an open world map instead of WvW. If I’m in a party I don’t generally leave it, though, unless I’m completely done playing for the night.
Just want to chime in here and say that this happened to me as well (female sylvari – only changed skin color/glow color – and I was at 100% glow at creation) and hopefully a fix is coming up. But just so you all know – Customer Service is really amazing about handling these issues if you submit a ticket – but you need to do that to get some resolution. I hope a fix will come soon, I do miss my glow. =(
TC’er poking in… 3 awesome servers here, wish you all luck! Can’t help but root for SBI though cause I <3 you guys! Have a fun match!
lolol Just have to say hats off to the thief trio/duo from SoR who remained hidden in TCBL Garrison for at least 30-40 minutes, camping our keep lord and trying to sneak in when I wasn’t watching and kill him yourselves. This was maybe 2 hours ago or so. And killed me twice to boot when I was chasing around after you. You had me cracking up in Mumble with my guildies… it was hilarious. <3 Good show!
And to Choo, though I get frustrated with your overwhelming numbers sometimes and feeling quite powerless in the face of them, I’ve learned so much watching you guys this week. I hope I can keep becoming better in the fights ahead as a result.
It continues to be fun SoR. =)
Why not end this matchup on a friendly note, rather than tainted by bickering and resentment? With the point shakeup coming, what do we have to lose anyway?
^This! Well said. I think people were feeling pretty hostile this weekend. o.o (some still are…) so I’d love it if we could have a friendly send-off with each other.
Obviously, without level 80 traits and exotics there’s a difference. However, that aside, I’ve definitely noticed a difference since I’m leveling my ele in WvW, from before the change to now. My stats buffed up a decent amount after the update and I feel significantly less of a squish than before. I wish I’d have thought to screenshot. =/ But from a “feel” perspective, it’s more helpful upscaling now.
Currently doing this with an ele, although I’ve done her story quests as well so I guess it isn’t 100% WvW, lol. But I find I get about 1-2 levels or so on quiet nights, but if there’s a lot of action sometimes 3-4. It’s a ton of fun, and I feel you learn the class much more thoroughly.
I would be up for a Thursday night armistice for peeps that want map completion, our matchup should be pretty much set by now methinks.
Anyone else?
That would be pretty awesome of you guys if you did. <3 My ele I’m leveling needs completion! No hard feelings if it weren’t to work out though, lol.
I have to give you props and say I loved your post.
A big thing is SoR is getting a ton of hate right now because the match is a blow out, and people act like SoR never had to go through any of it. In reality SoR went through 8+ weeks NON stop, where TC is now in week 2.
I love the fact you are keep a positive outlook, and looking at what will happen from this. (Just as it did to SoR when we were slammed by SoS, BG and such, we looked and built our community.) It really will help in the end, and I give you props on seeing it.
This was a really nice post, thank you. And I have to add that your guild is pretty awesome. One of your members even bowed to me earlier after killing me (a first from an SoR for me) which was a nice thing. And yeah, I hope TC can just… relax… take some sloowwww calming breaths… and realize everything is okay!
That chat log isn’t representative of how I feel about SoR. Do I want you out of this tier? Yes, definitely. But if I’m being honest – many of your members have displayed superior tactics time and time again, and I’ve been shown where I make mistakes and learned a lot. One good example was earlier today – I forget which SoR guild – was working on taking our northern supply camp in TCBL. They’d stacked 15 or so behind a house somewhere and sent 2 in. The 10 or so defenders wandering around north camp started attacking, and the 2 bolted off (a mesmer and a D/D ele), and the defender group chased after them (was futile, couldn’t catch of course) The other 15 then freely walked in and snatched the camp, no defenders to worry about. Well played. =)
Yes, we’re burnt out a bit and irritated. Yes, we lash out on the forums in the heat of frustration. And as you said, SoR dealt with it far, far longer. But hopefully in a few days, with two fresh servers into Tier 2, we can have something new to enjoy. Good luck in Tier 1 SoR.
And to SBI: I just love you guys. I run into you in random places when I’m in solo roaming mode and we’ve had fun duels, dance-offs and costume parades. Good luck rebuilding once things stabilize. <3
Eh…I don’t know any TC commanders, only that it was TC at the gates. I thought screenshots posts were what we were supposed to do. I typically run solo and not with our zergs, and upon asking about it in map chat I was asked to simply ss it for proof.
If you can forward me someone’s name or forum name I’d be more than happy to do it that way.
It’s already been said, but this is not a hack. There’s a very specific arrow cart placement that can do this (and is meant to take out inner siege aimed at gates in this way) though it’s not commonly done.
TC is on the verge of giving up it seems. (shrugs) have fun in T1 SoR.
I gave up before the week even started. With SoR guaranteed to move up, SBI guaranteed to move down, and TC’s rating practically unchanged regardless of the final score, this week from a score/ranking stand point for TC is irrelevant. That’s why I’m personally using this week to check out PvE stuff (jumping puzzles and Monday’s updates), although I may pop into WvW from time to time.

Unfortunately a lot of people feel this way. Apparently if you face any real competition then WvW isn’t “fun” when you’re you’re not stomping everyone else and the maps all belong to you.
I guess it’s human nature to do what’s easiest, but it’s a bit sad when people do that (stop playing when faced with tough resistance), no matter the server they are on.
It’s not about stomping everyone else. That doesn’t make WvW fun for me, or for anyone I imagine. When SBI first dropped down to T2, that first weekend, -that- was fun. It was “real competition” and “tough resistance” but we knew we stood an equal chance due to coverage, numbers and organization of all 3 of us being relatively the same.
It’s just not like that now, as we all know. And it’s been said over and over, and I don’t want to argue. I’m just saying that none of us want an easy match where we steamroll, and if we don’t, we quit. But yes, it is discouraging being stomped hour after hour, for sieges that go on for half a day against a server that is much better covered and organized and knowing you stand no chance of getting anywhere. I don’t bear SoR any ill will. I know you spend your time getting beaten too. And despite having no chance, this TC’er will continue to be a proud TCBL Defender all week.
I present to you, Humans, Charr, Norn and Asura alike, the very attitude that is poison to a population and an attitude which, I feel, is poisoning WvW.
Hmm… Sylvari got left out here too. Though I imagine that’s maybe because they are resistant to Zhaitan’s corruption!
lol. I can imagine being buzzed out of my mind, slamming ‘refresh’ on the forums over and over while the tower I was supposed to be scouting gets roflgolemstomped. Oh right… I knew I’d forgotten something…
Obal that’s such a nice offer. I really like your attitude about welcoming first-timers. I would be happy to join you on a run – I know Lupi has been a huge struggle for my guild and Arah in general is feared by us so I’d love to pick up tips/tricks!

It begins again…
I am weird. The neatness of the pie sections in that score update make me happy.
I’ve seen some rumblings of players moving over to you guys from EU> Nothing huge, but people view you as the official RP server, and good at WvW so some people want in the fun.
This does come from observations more than anything, so it may not lead anywhere, but I’d be willing to bet you should see some movement into TC aswell.
TC has, fortunately, never been a bandwagon destination (I used the word!). It’s a hard server to get into in general, and has never given off that l33t WvW hardc0rez vibe that “hardcore” guilds seem to love. What we do indeed have is as you said a steady trickling of individual players and small but passionate groups that eventually form a solid militia base and steadily got us to where we are.
That would be a cool thing to get more movement into TC from interested EU players! I like the fun, playful, “non-hardcore” vibe we seem to have that stems from the RP base as well as the non-RP’ers. It’s the thing I love about this server. If that attracts people that like to WvW on that basis all the better.
I have to agree with Lauren. (Hi, Nora!) Our commanders generally bring a great sense of direction to a bunch of do-your-own-thing free spirited roleplayers!
Hey Kiera! =) They really do, and I just hope they’re not all taking a bunch of undue criticism when a huge majority of them are working insanely hard.
Hate spam to commanders is completely kittening kitten unless the commander is 120% pure terribad and auto-losing the map.
I want to punch people that don’t respect the burden comms shoulder when they actually put forth an effort.
Yeah I completely agree, and this was totally not the case. Just a rough patch when we went from peacefully escorting yaks around our 100% red map and checking upgrades and siege to fending off attacks from both sides sweeping our holdings with frightening speed. Sometimes these shifts happen and given the coverage we have (this was during EU prime time, roughly 2PM or so EST) there’s not much that can be done.
Regardless, thank you again to my wonderful TC commanders. <3
And to briefly say – I don’t think it’s fair to blame SoR for recruiting guilds looking to move from struggling servers. If I were in such a position, I’d want to be on a server with successful WvW guilds too. Though I am wincing imagining the pain this is going to cause for next matchup… something tells me the trench coat is going to take a serious beating… =)
This has been a fun matchup and a great week. Thanks to SBI for bringing a great fight to us and congratulations to SoR on coming out on top.
I want to take a minute to say thank you to our Tarnished Coast commanders. I think they’ve had to deal with a huge amount of pressure this week and over the last day or so I’ve noticed the regular players on the BL maps seem a bit burnt-out and frustrated. One commander was even dealing with hate-PM spam while they were trying to stop our BL from getting taken over. I’m from a little guild that doesn’t mobilize a big force into WvW so I really appreciate the leadership our TC commanders bring every day. We have a great community and I have so much fun charging into the fray with you every day!
Breakout events always make me /sadface for some reason, lol. It’s kinda like “Siege for Dummies” – I feel so… defeated running those. Haha. “I need a bubble around me and my siege to do this!” And yes, totally been in your same position Mclovin, exactly. xD
Yeah I remember being confused about that myself the first time I saw it. There is some kind of radius that’s not obvious when a treb shot blasts out like that. I remember seeing our garri walls taking damage aways back from shots looking just like that and thinking “wtf?!” but it is indeed within range.
Both have their strengths honestly. Like you, I ran with LB essentially the entire time I leveled my character. I’ve morphed into more WvW-focused, and the LB was really awesome for running in groups for siege. However … outside of siege, I felt really gimped. Anytime I needed to 1v1 or skirmish in small groups I just wanted a different feel – to be able to get in and out of melee range on both weapon sets. But contrary to what some say, both can be viable in WvW and PvE – it’s a playstyle choice.
Anyway now I run SB / Axe + Horn in WvW primarily, and toss my LB on during sieges for Barrage, etc. And I find I’m enjoying the SB build for PvE as well – and I never thought I’d stray away from LB. I also agree that I like the LB’s looks and animations better though, but, oh well. =)

Based on how the Elo system works, I guess we will be playing against each other for a while. It will probably be a good thing.
Very nice site you guys have! Smexy stuff. I’m looking forward to the rest of the week. I know most of my server mates here at TC love to have fun and enjoy the experience so I bet it’ll continue to be a good time. Best of luck to our new SBI friends and to SoR too. =)
Without fail, TC has filled IOJ’s shoes well in that they focus their entire day crew on attacking SoR BL rather than the point leader. When is Red going to realize the key to second place isn’t by attacking second place?
Just once it would be nice if it wasn’t Green + Red vs Blue. SBI has been completely unchallenged by TC in thier BL all weekend.
Not sure what you mean, I just left SBIBL after about 2-3 hours running with about an 8-man team flipping camps and generally being an annoyance. We were thin on coverage in our own BL so I wouldn’t expect more to have come with us. We’re just working with what we have.
Good luck to you over at SoR and to SBI as well – very well played all!
(edited by Lauren.3061)
Woohoo! SBI you guys are fun! Nice job SoR and SBI all around – what a fun first day of fighting. That battle just a bit ago in SoRBL at Bay was a brutal bloodbath huh? Looking forward to more!
I have been using my pet to go after siege as well using “Guard” on walls, though I’ll hold off for now. I didn’t even realize people would think of it like an exploit or be bannable. I would really like to hear an official word from the dev team on this.
The way I saw it, it made me incredibly useful in an assault. Considering that elementalists and mesmers are capable of much more than this, I felt I could help by using this skill this way.
lol I can only imagine what Tier 1 is like if Tier 2 is a break from the constant onslaught. Oy.
You have no idea. T1 is nuts. As it should be I guess.
So I’m guessing there’s no three-server peaceful dolyak walk parades?
Jayne you are just awesome LOL. All of your posts crack me up. <3
To the OP, don’t be discouraged if you drop to our tier! As it’s been said multiple times now, we here at the Toast as well as SoR are light on Oceanic coverage so I bet it would be a fun matchup!
Just from scanning your site example, I can offer that my server is pretty awesome for RP overall. I’m on Tarnished Coast, and it’s sort of the “unofficial RP” server. Pretty much whenever you wander through Divinity’s Reach, most camps and taverns in Queensdale, in the lodges in Hoelbrak and lots of other spots, there’s tons of RP going on. Certain guilds on the server focus on it more than others, but there’s tons of friendly folks here to help you with it. Tarnished Coast is on “full” status a lot though – can be tough to get in here. However if you try in the early morning hours (like 7-8 AM EST, and thereabouts) you’ve got a good chance of getting here.
If you’re curious to know more, feel free to PM me here or in game. Good luck!
Just want to say hats off to SoR and BG for a fun night in WvW. Had a great time with you guys – some brutal pushes and defenses all around! Looking forward to more!
This is great to see. I’m very happy my guild and our allies have signed on. Looking forward to working with you all!
Ah, definitely feels as though the match died out for us over the last couple of days. Can’t say I have much motivation to dive in there — I really do hope the hacking issues get sorted out. Have seen some nice fights all around EBay and GoM, thanks for the matchup this week both of you and good luck going forward.
Best of luck to EB and GoM this week — hope we have a fun match-up!
Control. Nothing brings me more joy than to physically keep one person out of the fight.
This. I love our variety of control options. For me, this applies equally to PvE as well.
Yes, this has happened to me as well. And I’ve not been buffed with anything — I’m solo playing when it happens also. I would agree with Lyuben that it seems lag-related.
Truth be told though, all I ever do is spam grenades, so I should have gone for a pure power build I guess. Power and Crit Damage seem most ideal for a grenade build.
As someone who used grenades with a pistol-based conditions build for awhile too, I can say switching to rifle/power is an awesome decision, and I haven’t regretted it once. Of course, I also swapped for a ton more precision than I used to have (my crit rate used to be a sad thing indeed) so there’s that too, but my numbers on grenade barrage now make me want to jump for joy. Just having a ton more fun all around now.
I’ve tried quite a few things in WvW — flamethrower and other kit-based builds, even turrets, but I always come back to grenades. I know some engineers have fun with other setups but I always feel I’m supporting with grenade damage the best. Helping out my party and group while they’re conducting a siege by keeping enemies off walls and watching for them flanking us has proven to be of huge benefit. Most of the time the enemy won’t be watching for them, and I adore turning one downed player into about 30 when they decide to cluster around him for a revive. xD
I leveled with a conditions build, using pistol/shield and mostly carrion gear (my build was something like this: http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fcAQJAqel0pSY3zyuF17IBoHAuu8VkiHb5PKkbaB;ToAgyCuo+y8l4L7XuvkfNqYGA), but recently I’ve switched over to rifle/grenades with elixirs (mostly B and R) and a mixture of Berserker’s and Knight’s gear and I’m so much happier. I never felt as effective using condition stacking as I do now.
I absolutely love rifle how it is. I don’t want a sniper kit. It functions so well when built up for burst damage, combined with its base control abilities, I love it just how it is. I played mainly with pistol/shield as I leveled up but will never swap back now.
I wanted to make a new topic about this because I haven’t seen another thread about it (if there is and my keywords didn’t grab it, I apologize!). I’ve been kinda blah about finishing my personal story — because of my issues with Trahearne, and the repetitive nature of the quests post-Claw Island, as well as the negative feedback I’d heard about the final fight.
But—! I just had to make a post after I finished about the really cute touch you guys added at the end of the last story instance. Not sure if anyone else has noticed this but I just loved it.
After I went to meet Destiny’s Edge, and I dragged contemplative Trahearne down from his perch to have some fun, I was prompted to choose my reward, and the vocal version of “Fear Not This Night” began playing which I love. So I sat and listened to the song, basking in the glow of a reunited Destiny’s Edge. The Zhaitan fight was pretty “meh” but I was loving seeing Rytlock and Logan busting on each other and Eir and Zojja chatting pleasantly. The song wound to a close, and I barely took a breath when who pops into the scene? Wozmack the Wonderful! I’m not sure if this was because I am human, or if it’s the same for everyone, but I loved seeing him. He was in my very first story quest along the human nobility line, and I thought his little magic act was so cute — and he came back and did another similar one, including getting all the Destiny’s Edge members dancing! Anyway I thought this was just an amazing touch ArenaNet. Just felt like I’d come full circle at the end in a really cool and cute way. I’d really missed the connection to my earlier story quests and so this was a great way to end it — well done!
