Polyscia – Elementalist
Mercedene Underfoot – Thief
It’s just trash mobs, but they’re in the form of single minibosses. They’re obviously designed intentionally to teach you the mechanics coming up in the actual boss fight. The people who were in the raid when it launched all seem to have gone a little bit tin foil hat about this like Anet got scared you were getting through it too easy (as if your group is that much better than Anet testers and devs) and they had to close it. It’s entirely because of squad UI glitches – believe me, I got locked out of the game for 3 hours because of their issues with squad UI.
Race: Sylvari
Location: Anywhere (screenshot shows on beta character in VB)
Gear Involved: The Flameseeker Prophecies and the Toxic Mantle
I know this might just be something I have to deal with. All the same I though I’d post it.
Just tried again. At first it had a second of the Verdant Brink loading screen, then it took me to character creation… Went back and tried again, and finally got in.
This is probably why they can’t beta the new WvW map with a sizable part of the community on the normal servers. If they did, even if the issues were as minor as it could get, the hardcore WvW players would just complain about how it spoiled their “prime time”.
I know it seems like Arenanet doesn’t care, but at the current moment, they are trying to fix a UI that will affect a HUGE percentage of their PvE Playerbase,
Why does ONLY Pve matter? Seriously… once again my Mike O’Obrien post comes into play. kitten THAT!
yes messages might have been Helpful, but that is the past
, so They are working to make UI compatible with their PvE content, and I’m sure at some point in the future, After they schedule specific events and etc etc, they will do a WvW based feature Patch or somehting that will make it somehow better, Such as More Maps, Maybe the possibility of more servers fighting eachother at once? hmmmmmmmmmm?
They have been awful at announcing betas for WvW content…. And should have just released it to all to see real “server” beta’ing for realsies. The fact they only selecte certain accounts/guilds for WvW means they give no kittens about beta’ing it for real.
Squad UI is a huge feature for WvW… you get that right? What they’re trying to beta test right now is for your benefit too. Did it occur to you that the new map might not actually need all that much testing while the squad UI (obviously) does?
I ran a -repair and it removed my commander tag, thus allowing me to log into the game.
I think what you actually did was wait it out like many other people. Loads of us have run repairs without it making any difference, and there’s no reason that repairing your client should change something like that which is more like an account state.
So basically most of us are relying on 4 other people reading this and logging out for 10 minutes.
Waited 20 minutes. Didn’t work.
It’s not Arenanet’s Fault none of this works as intended, they are doing their best, ( When i say arenanet, I mean all of GW2 support, the server managers, and anythign relate dtoi any server under Arenanet’s company)
Who’s fault is it then? It’s not the players faults. I’m not saying you should get outraged or that you shouldn’t expect problems, but it is quite literally ArenaNets fault and ArenaNets fault only that there are problems, even if that’s holding them to an unreasonable standard.
Just to confirm what Chris said, I still can’t log in, and was the leader of a squad on a beta character by the raid portal. I thought what he said could mean my non-beta characters might be playable again, but that isn’t the case.
Lots of people are having the issue. Would be nice to have the Devs let us know they’re aware and merge all the threads about this.
Had a tag up and a full party of 5 – now can’t log in to any characters at all.
I was waiting by the raid and started a group for it, then the build hit. I closed the game to get the patch and now I get a network error whenever I try to log into ANY of my characters. Everything was fine pre-patch…
If you weren’t using Signet of Fire before, you were doing it wrong guys. None of the arcane skills will increase your damage nearly as much. The only reason you might not want to use it is if you were full Assassins (you shouldn’t be, go part Zerker, part Assassins). The meta Utilites pre-patch were IB, SoF, and GoS. I suggest you just replace Ice Bow with Lightning Hammer. It still has a 5 skill that stuns for the modifier in air and medium sized hit box skill on 4. There’s no reason to take Arcane Wave over LH when LHs 3rd auto attack is going to Blast every 1 1/2 seconds.
I think Lightning Hammer should still do decent damage, we have so much damage modifiers.
If you take Fire/Air/Water
Fire – %10 damage increase to burning foes (with GeOP used in FA)
Air – %20 damage increase to targets under %50
Water – %20 damage increase to the foes with vulnerability + %10 when you are above %90 HPCamp water with LH and that is %60 more damage in execute phase (below %50)
I quite sure LH should be still at the top of the damage charts.
I did try it, and it does work, I just worry they will want to move away from this playstyle and will nerf LH if it just replaces IB
Are you talking about pve? Utilities has got to be arcane brilliance, wave and glyph of storms as usual. Last slot would be either icebow or signet of fire, depending on whether I need the deep freeze. Elemental as elite is fine.
As for changes, we need bolt to the heart back. We also need an actual water gm trait, the current ones are a joke.
Yeah, totally PvE. PvP meta barely changed, just more people are running staff and earth, but it plays very similarly. How exciting are the arcane skills really though keeping in mind this is sort of a fantasy thread :/ I feel like Glyphs seem to offer a more enjoyable damage playstyle – especially elementals. I disagree the elite elemental cuts it – I think they could do more to make it useful and not just sort of a random minor dmg increase, but I think the lesser elemental we can all agree is pretty useless.
The language filters a bit messed up. I meant that you can use R as well as C if you find those easy to press
I have a couple suggestions that I think could help you – first of all, you’ve gotta try using modifiers. My primary suggestion is that you use Alt as a modifier. Most people prefer shift, but I find that Alt is much much easier to press and hold. You would use your thumb to hold the Alt key, and then push another key that would normally have another function. I would also try replacing some of the numbers that are hardest to reach with your Q and E key, as well as your R ankitteneys if you find those easy to press too. Keep in mind you can use the Alt modifier on any of these keys, so any other key you can hit easily is like 2 keys. My main suggestion involves more money I’m afraid, but perhaps it can help you. If you haven’t got one, getting a mouse with at least two extra buttons for you to use with your right thumb could really help you. You can also use those with the Alt modifier to make it 4 new easy to press buttons. Personally I use one of those buttons as my dodge button to react as quickly as possible when I need to dodge. A mouse with extra buttons is actually quite easy to find on Amazon or something for not too much. There are a lot of other peripherals that can make it easier. I use a Razer Orbweaver and it makes playing Ele a breeze, but it’s a little pricey and probably not for everyone as you have to go back and forth from it and a regular keyboard to type. If you change a ton around it will seem confusing at first. The best thing you can do to practice is to start by doing an easy rotation in the HotM PvP lobby on one of the golem dummies or try the class AI to get used to where your utility skills are.
How would you LIKE to do damage as an ele post-IB? This isn’t a thread about how to modify our builds right now with Ice Bow gone, this is a thread about what you’d like Anet to change (reasonable please) to make an enjoyable build with synergies for damage a reality. Below you’ll find my preferred idea.
Elementals Elementalist(lolz) – Staff Ele with the standard Fire traits. Air is mostly the same but with the Glyphs trait, not the Shocking Aura one. What to do with the last line I really don’t know, but probably water even though I feel like it’s kind of a lame choice without using Ice Bow with Piercing Shards. Ice Bow is replaced with Glyph of Lesser Elementals, which should be a permanent thing with useful actives that also kill the elemental to trigger the recharge and allow us to use a different one. Signet of Fire is still chillin’, doing nothing as usual, but it’s also viable to take Glyph of Elemental Power instead. Lightning Flash is still a standard quality of life thing, and we can swap to Glyph of Storms for boss fights and such. Glyph of Elementals would have a 50% uptime, and would keep it’s current skills but they would actually trigger out of combat and hit your target entering combat instead of just wasting themselves. Possible damage buff for that Fire Elemental bad boy too… I mean you guys have put off giving us a decent Elite skill for long enough, maybe it’s time you just buff a skill that’s obviously ridiculously underpowered?
Any thoughts on my thoughts? Any thoughts of your own? Post them for my entertainment!
I’m not gonna speak to scepter right now, but if you want to do damage you really need to be scepter not staff, and it’s under powered and very squishy. Today’s D/D changes may have ruined D/D – I don’t know because I barely play D/D anymore and don’t plan to. D/D was over powered because it did far too much damage for a Celestial “jack-of-all-trades” class/build that made it deadly in a 1v1 rather than being a true bunker that struggles to get kills quickly. Instead, I have been playing a Staff Celestial Bunker Ele build that I think could well enter the meta. Most D/Ds were playing Fire over Earth – Staff Bunker is all about Earth. It does very little damage, but you will easily be able to survive 1v2s or 3s even if only because of your mobility, and most of your damage and CC is AOE, thus making you much more of a threat in team fights. Check out the Celestial Staff build on Metabattle. It’s been in the great section for ages through a few metas now, and in the pretty extensive testing I’ve done with it in Stronghold it performs better than in Conquest. Only change I’d suggest you make to the build on Metabattle is to go with Fiery Greatsword instead of Elementals because it will allow you to do more damage when you need it while still taking advantage of your most valuable defensive resource – earth and water attunement.
I think you’re somehow under the impression that current end game PvE – Fractals and the like, is actually hard and that’s why people don’t like it or can’t get into it. That’s BS – prebuffing and active mitigation isn’t hard at all, but currently the end game stuff is fully broken. Anyone who does Fractals frequently will tell you that lvl 50 fractals are the easiest level because everyone who joins knows what they’re doing. That’s what makes people dislike it and keeps them from getting into it – they just have to learn a few basic mechanics and then it’s easy – the learning curve is steep but VERY short, and people are always disappointed in the end. A meta group doesn’t need any skill to win, they just push icebow 4. Most bosses can be killed in less than 30 seconds. If they ever want to have rewarding challenging content then we can’t have fights that short. Anybody can focus on dodging and their rotation for 30 seconds – fewer can for 10mins, and then healing becomes necessary to right any slip ups.
It’s only going to be sustained healing if you camp the legend though. I don’t think it’d be very enjoyable to camp centaur stance using Facet of Nature every now and then. Druid can heal it’s allies even when it’s not in the celestial form, but Rev needs to be in centaur stance to provide more healing than just regen.

Get over it, there are already bigger differences from one race to another. Personally I’m going to roll my Rev Sylvari to experience it, but I’m still going to definitely play it on another race to experience what that has to offer. It’s very unlikely that Sylvari will just get more content – it will just be different content and a different story. The exact same thing exists with the original story except they’re completely different stories, and there are multiple ways to play each racial story too. To play every part of the original story and experience all the voice acting you’d need to play loads and loads of characters. Zhaitan didn’t EVER have his own voice acting, I mean you’re complaining about the fact that you have to play a Sylvari to get it and yet there isn’t another alternative. This is what fits thematically with the actual story. If you had any appreciation for the story and weren’t just looking for something to whine about then you’d get that it has to be this way and it’s creative and exciting the way it is.
A lot of people seem to be missing a great build choice. I think that Crystal Shield grandmaster is meh. If you’re running Ret (and I think you should) then use Enhanced Bulwark. It has a 1 sec ICD and works off your gain Stab on dodge trait (no ICD), and it gives a longer lasting stack. It means whenever you dodge you’ll get a 2 3/4 second stack and a 5 3/4 second stack. You even have amazing endurance regen to trigger it with Enduring Recovery and Vigorous Persistence. Control becomes a total non-issue.
Bolt and The Flameseeker Prophecies (literally perfect) ready to go – also have obligatory Dragon Wings and Glint’s Gaze skin, and Toxic skins for added dragon-ness. Ascended gear, bag slots, and a hair kit too. Next step is the Foefire Hammer skin!
Did anyone try deleting all of their beta characters from weekend 1 and starting a new one? Would doing so copy your account again, or is the first copy permanent? I’d like to test with ascended gear next time around but I didn’t arrange it the first time.
There’s something called Tyria3D where you can find old versions of the game and use it to get all of the collision data and stuff for maps that potentially were never released (at least that’s my understanding of how it works). Woodenpotatoes did a video where he looked at one map that was a version of Capricorn that was modified to make all 3 points above water and reachable along platforms. I believe the ship in the middle was larger, and the cannons became a more important mechanic or something like that. I would be perfectly happy with them bringing that back into the game, but not as it was. Underwater combat is bad enough that people should be able to completely opt out of it if they choose, not just be at the mercy of RNG and a single vote. I suppose if they really wanted, they could add it in a completely different section like stronghold.
As much as I don’t like it I get why it has to be purely team score based – it’s the best way to prevent exploitation. Technically I don’t think it’s even team score based, it’s simply based on Win/Loss. You gain a mark for a win or lose a mark for a loss (once you’re ranked high enough). I thought that was what all the recent talk about leagues explained, and I’ll be the first to say I might be wrong, but if I’m right the OP didn’t actually look at the system they’re using before critiquing it.
You can get hella Stab on Rev if you build for it with Ret. You can take the trait that gives you an extra 5s stab stack whenever you gain stab and then chain that with the stab on dodge. It’s short but it’s so frequent.
WOW I love it when you show off how much you listen to us. Moar!
I enjoy doing this and am glad to have the opportunity to do this as an experienced player. The only part of the game I didn’t experience was LS1 despite having played the game lots at launch, and so to be able to get the Toxic Skins is great. Once HoT starts things like the Toxic skins might be put fully to rest and never return to the gem store for all we know.
In defense of ANet: Some of these people’s claims are just silly. First of all, we have no clue if they tested this or not, nor do we fully understand the issue. Let’s not just jump to the conclusion that they just threw it at us. Second, if they say they can and will retroactively give you rewards, they can and will retroactively give you the rewards. They’re not going to escalate this by taking chances and telling us they’ll make amends they won’t make. They almost certainly figured out the problem ages ago – fixing it is the hard part. Presumably that means they are certain that they have and are able to continue to gather all of the data in regards to which events you did, and what your stacks were. If there’s anything they’re likely to screw up in the process of giving us our rewards, it will be that people who did receive 5 blooms will receive that same 5 blooms again. Let’s just take a chill pill and try to ENJOY the event. I don’t honestly understand why any of you would be playing the game if you can’t just enjoy it and get over the fact your rewards might be a few days late.
Judge the game and play the game based on whether you enjoy it or not, not whether or not you payed more than other people for it. Nobody complains about this in relation to WoW. I’ve purchased every WoW expansion ever separately at full price, but now you can get all of them except the most recent for a fraction of the cost, yet I nor anybody else complain about that because there’s also a monthly fee and thus people recognize that they were paying for being able to play it then and there, not years later. If you bought GW2 at launch, gratz, you’d paid probably $50 for YEARS of time you could play the game. The GW2 content that F2P players are getting is old news – it’s already made Anet a profit. Look at it this way – if you buy a mattress new it costs a decent amount. You sell it second hand a few years later and it’s worth almost nothing (like when the game cost $10), but if you waited a few years longer NOBODY wants to buy your mattress – someone might take it for free though. The expansion is a new mattress – the current game is great, we’ve had good times, but it’s also old and nobody is going to pay what you or I paid for it anymore.
Revs have to learn to deal with condi’s without resistance or much cleanse, and it’s totally possible. Heralds heal essentially provides resistance if you use it to counter condi’s – you just take half the condi burst and then activate the heal to heal all of the first half up and take no more dmg. Shield 5 can even be used to counter condi burst if you start it preemptively. Sure, that isn’t reliable at the moment in case a cripple sneaks it’s way in there, but when the ability is fixed it will be a great way to prevent condi application. I played a Glint build (Glint/Shiro Dev/Ret/Her) with retribution as opposed to invocation or salvation like most people because I frankly don’t think that condi cleanse is worth it. Retribution gives better survivability and is extremely strong when facing a control heavy class (2 stacks of stab on dodge).
(edited by Lauriewonnacott.9841)
I prefer running Devastation MidMidBot, Retribution MidMidBot, and Herald BotMidBot. Dodging gives two stacks of Stab and some Retal, and if you can’t close a gap for some reason you take less dmg. This obviously doesn’t have condi remove on Legend swap – that’s the biggest issue, but I personally find legend swapping to condi remove unreliable. Choosing to swap legend is a pretty important decision to make, and not one I preferably would like to make to remove a single condi. The staff one is still strong, and I feel like swapping to staff is an easier decision to make to remove condi’s, plus some of the time you’ll just be using staff anyway and thus there’s no real consequence. You can also use Shield 5 to preemptively screw up someones condi burst, and the all the personal healing you have can do wonders to counter the effects of light but constant dmging condi’s. I’ve pretty much made up my mind to swap from Ele main to Rev main at this point. The playstyle Herald has really is amazing, and I think a LOT of people are excited at the idea of a shield being viable for regular play (if they can make that the reality, and I hope they can).
I think the point of the Herald is essentially “Burst Boons”. Warrior can’t throw out as many different useful long duration boons at once in a quick burst, and a herald still maintains the ability to swap to any other Legend to provide damage, or even healing or tanking if they really are making those roles viable like it seems they are. You also have to remember that Herald can increase the duration of boons significantly – not just those coming from him, but those coming from others, and that is VERY powerful, especially when you stack that with War and/or Ele might stacking. I reckon Herald can probably do all this and still perhaps be more tanky with the shield skills and the ability to legend swap.
There are other abilities like Sword 3 – I’ve trapped myself in vines in Silverwastes before, but sword 3 is particularly bad because Revs use it so much and have so little control over the bounces. I got myself clipped into a wall behind a vine and couldn’t get out, thus I had to leave the living story instance and restart it from camp in SW. No doubt this will happen plenty in all the new viney environments. Can it be fixed?
Here’s an idea for how they could appease us, so I can think positively about this for a change. Currently, most of the elite specs don’t seem to have much to do with the expansions storyline, the exceptions being the likely Glint Rev spec and quite probably druid. Before we had any info, I think myself and a lot of others expected a Zephyrite Ele elite spec, because it would go along really well with the HoT story. They’ve told us that there are more elite specs coming, but not how soon – why bother waiting for another expansion though? It’s quite probable that another elite spec could roll out in a matter of months rather than years, and it could come along with further zephyrite involvement in the story. From the sounds of it, they intended to do something similar with new legendaries. According to them, they’ve played around a lot (hopelessly perhaps, but we shall see) with our elite spec, and did mess around with sword. That makes it quite possible that a lot of the work is there, and quite easily salvageable, particularly since whole new game mechanics wouldn’t likely be necessary. After HoT releases, they could focus a lot more on new elite specs with the intention of mending ties with the community over what we don’t like or don’t need.
“Sword > traffic cone”
“Oops, bound Bolt”
5 – It legitimately feels like Anet are trolling us. They didn’t even give us a good elite, they just gave us an elite to make other people use their elites more. If polls really are banned, that’s pathetic. If they’re not trolling, polls are clearly exactly what they need. Some fool is sitting in his office at Anet comforting himself by insisting that there are always haters. There certainly are, but if they’d objectively try to figure out what people like, they’d do way better for themselves. People are overwhelmingly unhappy with this spec.
It’s actually funny seeing people reacting to this weapon with “I quit the game!” without even knowing what the hell the elite spec does and how it does. I’m actually very hyped because anet can pull out an amazing spec based on the most bland weapon. Of course I might be wrong, yeah, but why don’t we wait until the end of the week so we can ACTUALLY SEE what is coming for Elementalists?
If I remember correctly mesmer players were just like this with the incoming shield “Wth, sheild no mh pistol!?”, yet after the reveal apparently the Chronomancer is one of the most hyped elite specs.
I don’t care what it does, I still don’t want a traffic cone strapped to my hip. It could have beautiful spell effects and be the most OP spec in the game, I still don’t want to play it.
I bought the Ultimate Xpac and I made Bolt as my first legendary then bound it to my thief. At the time, I did it because I was so excited about the potential, and now I feel ripped off. Nothing about the xpac excites me anymore. Elementalist made this game enjoyable to me. I made plenty of passes at this game and ended up quitting on 80 after 80, until I came back and tried an Ele and stuck with the game. I don’t want to see a traffic cone strapped to the hip of the character I made my first and favorite legendary with, nor do I want to start another class when I’ve spent more money just on cosmetics etc. for my Ele than I did on the xpac. I’d rather just quit with a negative impression of Arenanet. Nothing is going to change their mind about this if they think it’s the right direction for Ele, but nor will anything change my mind that it’s not. It’s made me question whether they really have a direction for this game I’m interested in. I’d return the xpac if I could – the excitement is thoroughly gone.
Swapping to Air to use Glyph of Storms is pretty mandatory. Because of that, it leaves you lacking some modifiers during the time you’re locked out of fire, and thus the Vuln Water modifier is essential. Ice Bow does more damage than Fire attunement skills, and the most sensible time to use it is when you can’t get to fire, otherwise you’ve got practically nothing, so either way, you’re not getting the 10% in fire or the power buff with your Ice Bow, thus go with Water, and you’ll be using higher dmg skills than fire skills with a 10% greater modifier to (more than) balance out the 150 less flat power. If you go Arcane, you’re arguably invalidating the use of Ice Bow at all, because Ice Bow itself is probably equatable to a 10-20% boost. In addition, you’re invalidating Glyph of Storms as anything other than an opener, because swapping to Air will stunt you without the Ice Bow. In addition to all of that, you’re also completely stunting you’re own Arcane traits, because the resulting build (if it’s intended to be staff dps) doesn’t benefit from attunement swapping, so it won’t trigger it’s own minor. This also stunts the Arcane Grandmaster, because Arcane is about gaining buffs, but you’re not fully taking advantage of that part of the trait line. You wouldn’t even have a reliable way to generate might for yourself because swapping to earth for a blast finisher would be too big a loss to validate having might and 2% more dmg.
I would add though that I’ve always thought that for consistency with the condi resistance boon, Stone Heart and Diamond Skin should actually apply real boons that can be stolen and corrupted. When above 90% HP and traited for Diamond Skin you should get a pulse of Resistance every 2 seconds, and a new boon for Crit resistance should be added that also pulses but when in Earth attunement. This would allow counterplay, but not from simply waiting it out, and it would further encourage swapping out of Earth because doing it at the right time could allow you up to 2 seconds of crit invuln while in another attunement.
Thus far everyone I see complain about it mains a thief, a ranger, or occasionally a mesmer – yes this counters those classes, but they need to get over it. People seem to think we’re getting easy mode defense. Let’s be very very clear that it is not as powerful as people think. Ele’s still have the weakest passive defense of any class, and we absolutely cannot camp earth attunement. Camping earth attunement will get you killed fast. Frankly, if you reduced it and made it last the same length as your attunement recharge, most ele’s wouldn’t notice the difference, but good players will suffer hard and Ele will fall out of the meta. We absolutely need it, because Ele dmg in Cele gear is – if anything – worse. Meanwhile every other class has had something of a damage buff no matter what. If you changed it, all it would do is punish people for starting combat in earth attunement, which is the best option by far usually. Thief’s would just stealth through the duration – better players would swap out of earth then and there to start the recharge, but they’d just be reopened on immediately. I don’t think you’ve fully thought through all of the ways this ability interacts with other classes and how much use the trait would totally lose if it were changed that way – not because camping it is good, but because other people can’t be able to bully us out of earth.
I’m somewhat happy with where we’re at. We’re more tanky than before with earth being viable, but yeah, Ele will always be squishier and more challenging to play than Guardian or Warrior. Our dmg feels quite a bit lower than before unless we take fire over earth, but doing so also makes us squishier than we were before. Most importantly it feels like the Earth grandmaster is giving us some fairly passive survivability to fill in the gaps in keeping ourselves up, thus allowing us to save more for group support. In terms of PvE, zerker staff is stronger than ever, so definitely no complaints there.
I just want to point out (again) that the argument about Swords similarities to Dagger is totally totally unfair, as Warhorn is even more similar to Focus. Warhorn is the dumbest weapon in the game, and I think Arenanet want to conveniently forget that. I know there’s the odd Warhorn lover out there, but we have to look at it realistically. A Focus is basically an object that is not a traditional weapon, but can be used as the FOCUS of magical power to perform some sort of offensive or defensive magical spell. If you look at the Focus skills on Elementalist now it even already has a clearly stormy reflect zone. Consider thematically what a Warhorn is once you put it into the hands of an Elementalist – it literally IS a Focus. Sure, maybe Arenanet think they’re being real crafty by making a Warhorn call storms rather that a Sword, because if they don’t take that chance it’s unlikely Warhorn will ever thematically fit a future Ele Elite Spec, but is the thematic link between storms and warhorn really worth continuing to endorse the ugliest weapon in the game by giving it to the class that will likely get the least out of it in terms of actual playstyle, ie. what every Ele I’ve met cares most about? Based on every discussion I’ve been a part of, the response from players to the concept of a Warhorn Elementalist is dramatically negative, and considerably more so than the response to any other elite spec thus far. There’s really no burst damage Elementalist build worth speaking of in Conquest, and a main hand weapon would make significantly more sense to fulfill that role. In PvE, there’s really no reasonable tanky role for an Elementalist, and the potential for Sword or Warhorn to fulfill that role is pretty equal (although focus already has 2 reflects and an amazing total invulnerablity skill that fit that role fine). The problem is that ultimately we know so little about the way either would work that to say that one weapon would have a bigger impact on playstyle changes than another isn’t really fair. There is only one true speculation we can make, and that is that it has very clearly always been the intent of Arenanet that your main hand weapon choice has a heavier impact on playstyle than your offhand weapon choice, particularly when we consider that most of the damage a player does comes from the main hand, and off hand choice doesn’t effect the Ele’s 3rd skill. If they want to really make any difference to the way Ele plays, it HAS to be a main hand weapon or a two handed weapon, as Elementalist has 1 less option for main or two handed weapon than any other class in the game with the exception of Engineer, and Engi can take 5 kits and not have to plan nearly as much to use them as we do to use our conjures, all of which pretty much suck in sPvP.
TLDR
It’s impressive someone can write so many words about a spec we don’t know anything about.
Actually I wrote so many words about exactly that – that we don’t know enough about the spec to make any more speculation than simply this – Most people don’t like warhorn thematically, and most people would rather have a main hand. If you’re not interested in having discussions about this, why are you on the forums in the first place?
Diamond Skin should definitely take advantage of the new anti-condi boon rather than just being it’s own thing, but I’d actually like to see that make it more powerful but more involved. Above 90% HP is a pretty lame condition under which it should work. This may be impossible for them to achieve, but I’d like to see it immunity connected to regen in the same way that removal is connected to regen – for example, applying regen when under the effects of a condition instead applies half as much Resistance. Stone Heart is fine, and I think it’s a brilliant trait because it’s finally making Earth attunement a strong swap choice when you’re being bursted. Before it had CC and a projectile reflect, plus some Protection for entering it. That’s fairly strong, but it’s not strong against everyone. Protection alone is not a particularly big deal to high burst classes, and the reflect is short and mostly useful against rangers only. Ele’s have always been a different sort of bunker because their Vitality and Toughness aren’t nearly as strong as their counterparts, therefore they have a much more involved job of keeping themselves alive. A bunker guard/warrior can easily sit a thief opener – but until recently, elementalist needed to stun break urgently, or at least Flash away, and even then that helps very little. Now they swap earth, and come out of the opener at about half health able to heal away the damage. To me, if you’re traiting into the most tanky intended line for Eles, you DESERVE an easy counter to burst classes. There is another even better option, as I almost don’t think it’s fair to make us choose between the two traits atm – first, immunity to critical hits should also be a boon like Resistance, and the trait should be that when you attune to Earth gain 5 seconds of Condi AND Crit immunity ONLY if you remain in Earth for those 5 seconds. This means a maximum uptime of 5 seconds for every 13.5 seconds, and encourages significantly more strategic play without forcing people to make on the fly decisions about whether to run Stone Heart or Diamond Skin.
Same problem the last 2 days. Usually crashes during or not long after a map change. I thought maybe my gpu drivers were messed up because I completely wiped and reset my PC recently, but I’ve done a totally clean install of the drivers and it didn’t help. I’ve also repaired GW2 and that didn’t help. I also don’t seem to have the option to turn High Res Character Textures on anymore when I am in game, which seems strange. Any chance you’ve got that issue also but having noticed yet?

I don’t know why people are so excited about the idea of elementalist getting a one-handed sword.
FIRST OF ALL, Nearly every class can use sword and all those sword skills (guard, warrior, ranger, thief, mesmer, and possibly revenant) are just standard melee skills (cuts, slashes, blinks, dodge, etc) which are things dagger kinda already does. -.-
Sword if you think about it may look good, but it’s such a boring weapon that 5/8 classes already use!!! While only 3 classes (warrior, ranger, and necromancer) use warhorn and if you think about the Hunter’ Call the ranger has and the Locus Swarm necromancers get the idea of warhorn sounds hell of lot more fun. Summoning storms around you like Locus swarm and instant aoes at an enemies location like Hunter’s call without having to ground target would make me more excited, then just using a longer dagger….cause that what a sword is.
This argument again? Warhorn and Focus are exactly the same. A focus is just an object that isn’t a traditional weapon used as the FOCUS of magical power – a warhorn is just a type of focus. Look at the Focus skills now – they fulfill everything a Warhorn could. There is no logical reason why Warhorn is a more diverse weapon choice than Sword.
