I agree about the Durability rune, but not Riposting Shadows and Mallyx. I don’t think it’s that strong really. Catch them when they’ve just swapped to Mallyx and they’ll get wrecked if you can work around the stability. It’s pretty hard to work around the stability alone and catch someone after a swap to Mallyx, but it’s supposed to be very capable 1v1. On top of that, they really don’t have much healing. They have two healing skills, and two skills that provide some healing on their shield. All of the skills have situations in which they are useful. Shield 5 is good when you’re fighting bursty easily blockable classes. Empowering Misery is good when you’re being condi pressured. None of them are hugely reliable heals though. You can be locked out of all of them when you need them through weapons/legend swaps. All of them have long CDs. All of them have energy costs, even though the heal skill cost is low (5). This makes them pretty kitten weak if you’re not a condi class. They can easily be put on the defensive and that will not bode well for them.

Same problem. When I bought the Exalted one it told me that it was a one time only purchase per account and was I sure I wanted to do it. The Itzel one didn’t give me this message, and I haven’t bought the other one because I haven’t gotten around to the Nuhoch mastery. After the bug I went back to the Exalted vendor to see if I still couldn’t purchase another, and in fact I can still purchase another. I do not however have any of my currencies back…

Stop this god awful whining. It’s not supposed to be easy, and in fact, maybe it SHOULD cost more than a precursor drop because you don’t have to get it outright. You’re complaining about an economy/expense issue a week into the expansion. Whatever they change right now is going to be subject to change again because of the fluctuation in the economy, the worst of which we probably haven’t even seen yet. You don’t even have the official list of mats required for the rest of it. The people who complain about this stuff just don’t understand what the point of a legendary is. If I could have made my legendaries harder to get, I would have.

That happens if somehow the legend stance buff is removed(it shouldn’t be) as it’s used to help control the upkeep skills. Is this any adventure or just specific ones? More information would be useful.

This is a real issue – not just people poorly managing their energy. I don’t have this issue in Maguuma zones, only Tyria as far as I’m aware. It happens when you’re using less energy than would actually deplete it, and it happens out of combat. I’ve never experienced it happening while I am pulsing might with Strength, but this may just be because I usually only do this in or shortly before combat. It does occur with Darkness or Elements or Nature or any combination of those active, and I have only experienced it happening when I’m at 50% energy. That may again be because I’m mostly likely to be at 50% out of combat, but I’ve seen Elements flick off a few times as soon as I reach 50% again. I can’t speak to Light because it’s only useful for the active and you know it :P

Forget all that – it’s definitely when changing effective level. Just tested it. Explains lots of what I was seeing though.

The Flameseeker Prophecies 1 issues

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Lauriewonnacott.9841

Lauriewonnacott.9841

The intention was not to make getting precursors cheaper, it was to make it feel more like an actual journey that thematically fits the weapon. It’s should still take as long or longer and perhaps cost as much or more. The difference is that you’re not just outright buying it. You can feel some progression sooner, and if you don’t like just farming gold, you can now go from map to map to earn the things you need. I bought The Chosen and made Flameseeker before HoT because it was one of the cheap precursors (500g as opposed to 1000g like Zap). If they didn’t balance out those differences in the new collections then you very well may be spending even more gold doing it the new way, but your also going to have considerably more fun doing it than I did. Don’t be mad that it’s hard though – it’s a legendary. It’s supposed to feel like an almost insurmountable task, but it isn’t, and if it didn’t feel that way, you wouldn’t be proud to have it when you do eventually have it.

Limit the number that can be active at a time per map – probably 3 or 4. People should be able to vote them down if other people want to take over. Complicated system, but an incredibly simple system like this isn’t doing any good at all.

Continue to use your normal auto-attack button then. As long as you have the normal auto-attack settings on (changed by ctrl-right clicking the auto-attack skill on your bar) any targeted skill that you use will also trigger auto-attack. A lot of the beauty of the feature is that if you completely turn off auto-attack then your skills will never trigger it, but you still have an easy way to keep attacking without spamming 1 or anything. There aren’t really many occasions where you just won’t be using any other skills, and if there are then pushing 1 like you used to isn’t really a problem. Might want to make sure you don’t have auto-attack turning off when you change targets too.

Lauriewonnacott.9841

I think people misunderstand. From the sounds of it they intend a full set of legendary weapons to be attached to expansions. They’ve said they’re working on a full set FOR THIS EXPANSION, and I don’t think it’s going to be nearly as long as people think. It’s considerably more likely they’ll release them with raid wings, because the first 3 aren’t actually coming with HoT, they’re coming with the first raid wing. I don’t think it’s at all like they’ve just rushed these 3 through and have no progress on the others so far, and in fact I rather expect they have the skins at least fully worked out for all of them – they just need to do the collections and things. We’ll probably get all of them long before the expansion is “over” and another one has been announced.

If the ground is not flat….good luck. Really isn’t anything else except maybe Elements in Glint?

I don’t know if Elements is going to help really. I’d rather cling hard as hell to my swiftness, and ultimately it is a 15 sec CD and a small radius. I actually think Coalescence of Ruin (hammer 2) might solve the problem you’d have without flat terrain because it isn’t a projectile, it follows the ground to your target and hits everything in between. The halloween zone is generally quite flat anyway, as are many of the non-HoT maps were tagging is important.

Herald and Dragonhunter Icon Switch

in Revenant

Posted by: Lauriewonnacott.9841

Lauriewonnacott.9841

To be clear, it is not JUST a dragon, it is designed specifically as a crystalline dragon, ie. Glint. The sharp angles are intended to indicate that, so swapping it would be silly. Herald is if anything closest to being an actual Dragon and thus warrants the symbol. It doesn’t really make sense to define Dragonhunter by what they’re hunting, but more by what they’re hunting/fighting with. For Herald, you are literally fighting with Glint, or using her as a weapon. You can see that same naming convention with the regular classes and the other elite specs. Rangers have a paw print because pets are the crucial weapon in their kitten nal. Thief’s have a knife and a key, symbolic in a way of things they use as their weapons or tools. Druid has a sort of eclipse scene, invoking thoughts of the celestial powers they use. They don’t always do a fantastic job of this, but it’s clearly what they’re trying for, and I agree that they sort of wronged Dragonhunters with what they did choose for them, but they did an absolutely flawless job with Herald, and I don’t think anyone should take that away.

How will raids actually require Ascended?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Lauriewonnacott.9841

Lauriewonnacott.9841

well, if they suggest that after that learning phase they are going to nerf it the same way they nerfed Teq (which was the thing that resulted in it going “on farm”), then i’m all for it.

Teq was “on farm” long before the spec patch or the condition changes. There was no nerf needed before Teq was “on farm”.

Why is that so important to people that there is a limit? Is it what I said above, that they long for the most ‘progression-raid-like’ experience they can, that they want to exclude other people based on time investments instead of skill level?

It’s really bizarre to me how much people want this limitation.

I don’t see it as an enforced limit, however would you really want someone who has never done fractals before to come with you in a Raid? Although you might argue about their “skill level” but someone who hasn’t done fractals or is at a very low personal level, probably doesn’t have enough experience with instance content in GW2. Or you think someone who never run fractals or dungeons for some reason has excellent skill level and is a great player of instanced content?

Personally I’ve done some fractals but I haven’t even done any that require AR, and I don’t really want to. It isn’t really hard content. I didn’t find the early ones hard, and then people who do 50s regularly told me it doesn’t even get very hard so I didn’t bother. That doesn’t mean I’ll be bad at raids though – I mean I’ve done raids in loads and loads of games just fine. I’d argue being decent at PvP might put people at a better chance of succeeding in raids than being able to do a Fractal 50, it’s basically just stack and smash + you have to know the puzzles.

It’s perfectly reasonable to go full Zerker as Rev, especially if you use shield, because you’re quite sturdy anyway, or at least good enough for open world stuff. Personally I’m going to run Valkyrie armor though, because Rev has strong Crit chance as is with 40% from Fury and 100% uptime on it. Probably weapons and definitely trinkets might as well stay zerker though.

Hammer vs staff (pve)

in Revenant

Posted by: Lauriewonnacott.9841

Lauriewonnacott.9841

Staff for PvP (condi cleanse+some def/cc) and for some fights in the raid with breakbars because staff 5 really smashes them. I wouldn’t suggest it at all for open world PvE. The condi cleanse isn’t rlly super useful, you have loads of defense on a shield (which you really may as well take) and you’d do more dmg in melee range by just using sword and never changing weapons to staff. You get some useful utility on the Hammer too, and I think that’s by far the best secondary choice. Look at something like the big Wyvern boss fights – you just couldn’t be fighting it in melee range all the time because the lines of fire on the ground are too overwhelming and will keep you backed off him often. Having a ranged weapon makes tagging things a lot easier too, and lets face it just grabbing a tag on a few enemies is all you need to do in this game quite often.

What ascended gear to go for?

Also, Sword/Shield isn’t considered dual wielding.

You might not consider it dual wielding but the game does. Ferocious Strikes gives you +150 ferocity with sword/shield.

Has this been tested in-game? Warrior’s dual-wield has never included shield, so I’d presume Revenant shield would function the same way.

If it has, then I stand corrected based on programming.

Warrior doesn’t have an actual dual wield trait, the trait is just called Dual Wield. If you read it, that trait directly references Axes, Maces, and Swords in the off-hand. The Revenant trait does not reference any particular weapon, it merely says when dual wielding, and I can confirm that it does work.

Yeah, I have Flameseeker and used it on my beta Rev. No special effects as far as I’ve seen and currently The Flameseeker Prophecies doesn’t change the skill effect of any skill for any other class either. There really isn’t a weapon in this game that better thematically fits a particular class/spec. It’s just literally perfect for a Herald in every way, and for that reason I really think we should get both skill effects changed. Currently it flips a page every time you use a skill though, and they think that Anet thinks that cuts it when nobody ever sees that. The 4 skill should have a bunch of blue magical papers sort of poof out of it or something, and the 5 skill should look like a combination of a crystal shield and the blue magical shield Flameseeker has.

They don’t require ascended I think that’s a common misunderstanding that they haven’t corrected well enough. What they really mean is that the raid encounters have been tuned for players with ascended gear. When they worked on the raid to make it challenging, they were shooting to make it challenging for players in ascended gear.

Ascended Grind VS Raid Commitment

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Lauriewonnacott.9841

Lauriewonnacott.9841

They stated VERY clearly that the first wing won’t require ascended, and that in fact, NONE of it requires ascended, it’s just tuned for ascended. An even better more coordinated group could do it all without. The first wing isn’t even going to come out with the xpac, it’ll be a few weeks later (enough to earn ascended with the new more engaging map rewards system, which makes the grind you complain about more of a legitimate achievement), then they’ll do the first wing and you won’t even need the ascended gear, and may not even need it in the next wing. They also said that raids drop ascended gear, and have better rewards than average, and as it’s on a week raid lock, ascended drops could easily be super common, and thus you can earn the gear you need by doing the raid.

Help me to understand this for real please, because as far as I can see you’re getting more solo content than any other MMO I’m familiar with and I’m familiar with MANY. They’re adding adventures kitten – the mother of all repeatable solo content. You’ve got the Living Story, which is legitimately a solo narrative experience unlike what’s offered in almost any other MMO. It just seems like you guys are complaining that you aren’t getting enough solo content but your reasoning isn’t “here’s what we wanted but didn’t get”, but rather “here’s what they added for social play, now I’ll conveniently ignore all of the content that is solo to make it look like I’m being slighted”.

lack of content for solo (pve) players

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Lauriewonnacott.9841

Lauriewonnacott.9841

I have been playing guild wars since the first game came off the line. The one thing I always love about the game was the ability to play solo. The problem I have with what anet has been doing lately is that they seem to have forgotten that some people do not have any interest in dungeons or raids or pvp. that’s seems to be all they are concentrating on in heart of thorns. I mean us solo players paid the same price for our game and we don’t seem to be getting the same game experience for our money. If I’m wrong please anet tell me where I’m wrong.

What do you call adventures? What about the open world maps? What about the Living Story? What solo content is it that you want that you haven’t received? It’s all there, and in fact there’s more solo content than any other MMO I know of. The nature of playing an MMO is that more of the content will be catered to people not playing solo anyway. Of course they’re not gonna just make everything demand a party, but don’t be surprised if all of the content added isn’t made for solo players. Don’t even be surprised if the vast majority isn’t solo content, because it IS an MMO. If you want all the content to be solo, go play Fallout or Elder Scrolls – those games are catered to what you want.

Raids and meters...

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Lauriewonnacott.9841

Lauriewonnacott.9841

Anet never ever listen to peoples UI complaints, it’s one big area they give us no say in. We have less UI customization than any other MMO I’m familiar with. I could get over meters if they would just get rid of the stupid circular health “bar”, squeeze the two halfs of the skill bar together, give us a healthbar/portrait/boons/condis to the left side and above the skill bar, the enemy healthbar/portrait/boons/condis above and to the right, and the profession specific skills in the center. Whenever someone raises the UI they go “oh it’s not that easy, it’d take up all this screen real estate” – Anet your current target bar takes up the best bit of screen real estate available. I’d rather have the whole bottom half of my screen covered in UI than continue to have you take up the center of the top half of the screen with my target bar. I think you do this because you want to game to feel contextual rather than have us staring at a UI, but currently I’ve got a huge bit of UI (the target bar) often covering my actual enemy such that their physical telegraphs (like raising a weapon) aren’t visible. We want to monitor EVERYTHING Anet – Our HP, Boons, Condis, and all the same for our target in the SAME PLACE.

How can Ventari compete with Druid?

in Revenant

Posted by: Lauriewonnacott.9841

Lauriewonnacott.9841

Don’t forget about hammer guys. Hammer is part of why it’s viable. It’s decent long range damage and the rotation for it is EXTREMELY easy and reliable in terms of how much energy you’ll have, so micromanaging a tablet isn’t hard at all. All you really have to do is push 2 every couple of AAs. In addition to that, you’re pretty good at bursting a break bar like a druid is meant to be with the staff 5, the hammer 5, and the tablet. I don’t think this is every going to be as reliable as people want it to be in the open world, but with new encounters I think we’re absolutely going to see use for a Ventari Rev in some degree of healing gear. Everyone is getting a little too into the hard trinity all of a sudden. This still isn’t that – if anything we’re just going to see mostly hybrid builds.

Tanking required for raids

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Lauriewonnacott.9841

Lauriewonnacott.9841

There ABSOLUTELY is tanking in the raids, anyone who’s tried them or seen them knows this. It isn’t based on Taunts, it’s based on Toughness. There have for a long time now been enemies in GW2 who use player toughness as a factor in their aggro table, while others just attack who’s closest or who does the most damage (commonly it’s a combination on the two). In at least the first boss of the raid the boss always attacks the player with the highest toughness. This mechanic is important too, because the boss is melee only and he needs to be moved around the platform so he’s not standing on a lit up part of it. Don’t think that this is just a boring way of building in tanking either – you can change your toughness in combat, and aggro could be traded (for example) between two Heralds by matching or near-matching their toughness and using the trait that gives you toughness for each upkeep point in use.

A warning for the forum community

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Lauriewonnacott.9841

Lauriewonnacott.9841

All I have to say is this – there is a very very VERY vocal minority of players who are not happy with raids at all. In general, most of these people are complaining about two things. One of those things is the “grind” to get ascended gear, and one of those things is just general difficulty. The problem is that raids are meant to take time, and the people who have that time have ascended gear, thus it makes FAR more sense to tune the raid to their gear. Countless people who – and call me an elitist if you like – are better at this game than those people have come out to give respectable answers to these peoples concerns. We tell them how they can earn ascended gear faster than they can level to 80. We tell them that there is more content besides raids in HoT. No matter what we tell these people, they continue to post in anger about the fact that not EVERY SINGLE BIT of HoT is perfectly tailored to those playstyles. The only conversations that have not been worn out on the forums by this point are conversations about the actual mechanics of the fight, and frankly myself and the “elitists” (who have tried and tried to explain this to you so you might be able to enjoy this content with us) would rather talk about that now.

Look at your signature too man – be careful what you ask for Anet may give it to you. That’s exactly why we want to point out that this is a vocal minority, and not a majority.

I’m not saying delete them, but I am saying ignore them if you do not agree with them and you’ve been arguing with them for ages. Many of us are legitimately trying to help these people by explaining to them how they can get ascended or get better at the game. Forgive us if we, the better players, don’t agree with your stance on raids because it will legitimately impact how much we enjoy the game (more than it will yours, casuals). We try to help, we get called elitists, someone else comes along and rewords everything we’ve said, and then they get the same treatment. All I’m doing is pointing out a trend on this forum and telling people to recognize it and act as they will as a result.

How will vanilla zones stay populated

All hero points are soloable, you just might have walked into part of the map that’s higher level than you and you might have to consider what skills will help you the most. All the same, they will still be populated.

How is revenant dps?

in Revenant

People used it as their primary source of direct damage (and break bar breaking with staff, though I want this gone to make room for Hammer) in the Raid beta. There wasn’t really time to put much thought into it then, but people had enough time to realize staff ele just didn’t work with that much movement and raid damage. A meta staff ele couldn’t even stand in the aoe’s you have to have people in because just the damage they received in it (not to mention if people DIDN’T stand in it) was faaaar too much for them to take, so one use they could have is completely gone, and JUST being good at damage isn’t enough to cut it anymore. A rev on the other hand doesn’t loose damage for equipping shield over sword, and maintains a huge amount of defensive utility without losing anything in the damage department. They also have a 1200 range high dps weapon that works reliably on a moving target and truly rivals the combination of Lava Font and Fire AA that makes Ele so powerful on a stationary target. Hammer is really quite similar to Ele Staff, except you can fit your second attack in once between every 2 AAs instead of every 3 like an Ele, you don’t have to aim it, and you don’t have to push 5 unless you see a break bar. All the while they’re giving you hella buffs without really losing any dps, while if an ele wanted to give you a bit of support they could, but they aren’t going to be doing any damage for 10 seconds and that support is much more limited.

How do you feel about Exalted reveal?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Lauriewonnacott.9841

This isn’t in any way a slap in the face to Mursaat fans, and it certainly doesn’t rule out Mursaat involvement or ancient race involvement. These Exalted are not the Mursaat, but the similarities are there for a reason I am sure. Don’t forget we’ve still got Rata Sum (Mursaat) which is a ruin of unknown origin (but really quite obviously Mursaat) that would appear to have a great deal in common with Tarir, in that it can appear to be a ruin only to be “awoken” by it’s magical creators (although in Rata Sums case it has already been taken over and leads in really well to an Asuran expansion about the Mursaat and Primordius). The Mursaat and Exalted appear to at least use very similar magic. I mean how did they lay dormant? My guess is they phased out just like the Mursaat. Both share a great deal in common with Seers too (floating humanoid spellcasters with access to similar magic or at least a counter to Mursaat magic). It means something if these similar beings can come out of this dormant state without us ever knowing about them in the first place when as far as we know the Mursaat and the Seers are completely wiped out. The outcome I would like to see is that the exalted are run by or include Saul, and they are all White Mantle members who still “worship” or at least appreciate the Mursaat, but accept their great fall and the mistakes they made, and are now allied with Glint and the Forgotten as they should have been in the first place had they not run away. They could in many ways be the spiritual successor to Mursaat, but put back on the right track. Many people have suggested for a long time anyway that the Mursaat weren’t just created as the Mursaat – they are in some way an evolution of another race or underwent a magical process or their magic just defines them more than their form. All of this would open the door to the reentry of the other magical races, perhaps prompting the Seers out of hiding if they are out there (somewhat unlikely), bringing the Forgotten out of the Crystal Desert (if they are still there, and I think they almost certainly are), and perhaps even setting off on a mission together to return the Jotuns magic to them and bring them back into the fold too. Poor ol’ Ogden could join in too, but sadly I think he really is the last dwarf because it’s a pretty powerful plot device for him, within his lifetime, to have been a theorist of the dwarven “apocalypse”, witnessed it and undergone his races transformation into a hive mind, and then be left as the only one within the hive mind.

Shared Empowerment & Facet Synergy - broken

in Revenant

Lauriewonnacott.9841

That wouldn’t be rewarding. There’s too much Might as is. In group combat in HoT it will be hard not to be at max might, especially in raids were a high skill cap can actually be put to use. It also really limits decision making when it comes to when to activate things. I don’t think they want to set the class up for a playstyle where you ignore most of the mechanics within your Facets and merely activate them as some sort of Might beacon. They want you to be activating Facets as needed while fighting against an energy bar basically, but if you make Share Empowerment something people are activating those skills to trigger then they basically stop fighting the energy bar, or they’re fighting the energy bar while they’re trying to rotate the skills for a purpose other than the actual design of the skill.

Everything wrong with HoT

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Lauriewonnacott.9841

Lauriewonnacott.9841

The problem is that the way you play now there is still content in the base game you’re not experiencing. HoT isn’t really boosting that, it’s just that you’re looking at an overview of everything in it and noticing “oh man, that doesn’t really suit me at all”. That’s fine though – there’s so much that you can still do as a solo player. You can walk up to a WB and nobody cares what you run. You can do adventures, you can build new jumping puzzles in you guild hall, and you can gain access to even more build diversity with new traits and skills, even if Revenant isn’t for you. My argument is nothing along the lines of “why do you play MMOs” it more about how this is just what MMOs are. MMOs are played by people with a wide variety of interests who have a variety of degrees to which they want to interact with other players, and almost NONE of them will ever complete all of the content (if you would agree that completion in GW2 is to just having everything, achievements included). Normally you’re okay with that, but when you feel like you’re being almost obligated to buy it and you’re looking at all the content in the xpac as a whole you feel like you’re being betrayed. I think once you get into it you’ll see that’s not the case.

So healing power...

Lauriewonnacott.9841

As much as I’d love for them to fix it, it’s risky. They could blow up PvP balance changing how some of the poorly scaling skills work, and I think they’re trying to be gentle with it at the moment. Healing is a troublesome issue in GW2 because I think there is a genuine risk of it becoming far too overpowered.

HoT Launched Without Me

I believe every question has been answered properly but this:

Q: Are there any new Guild Bounties, Trek Locations, or Rushes in HoT maps that I cannot access?

No, all new Guild Missions are WvW and PvP based for the time being, thus this particular issue should not cause any kind of rift in your guild. I think their reasoning is probably that they want F2P players to be able to involve themselves in all guild missions because it’s an entry to them wanting to do raids and thus buy the expansion. They’ll also being seeing all their guildies showing off their elite specs and legendary armor and whatnot so it works out for Anets pockets and frankly, for the players too.

Raids taking up World Map space?

People have got to stop complaining about this, it’s really self-centered. They want to get people who want challenging content more excited about the game – they have to create that content to get those people in. Those people like restrictions like gear and they like the requirement of a well coordinated group. If you don’t, I’m sorry, enjoy the rest of it. That’s all there is to it. They’re not going to build their game exactly the way that you and people like you want, they’re going to build it to get the most players and to please the most players. They’re not interested in making you feel left out anymore than they are people who can raid, thus they put in things for players like you too. What you want is for ALL of the content to be made just to your standards, and not any other players. Don’t pretend that real estate in the game is somehow limited either. There’s still the Crystal Desert, there’s still Cantha, and there’s the literally unlimited Mists and whole other worlds. The idea that your this infuriated because not every single feature or bit of content in the expac is something you want just blows my mind, especially if you do play casually in which case you’ll probably never experience all of the content or will experience it much slower than everyone else anyway.

Why I am salty about Ascended...

Personally I find the grind for ascended gear on a pretty level field with the best gear in MMOs or easier. It really isn’t very difficult to grind it out, it’s just a very boring process and it doesn’t feel like your earning it in some sort of progression in the story towards a final encounter where it’s necessary – it is literally just a grind and with a few time gates in the process of getting trinkets.
