When I played P/P I relied on Riccochet for the damage boost, and for the extra healing from Signet of Malice. With no Riccochet, that signet is nowhere near as strong now, and hurts a lot of the p/p thief survivibility.
I also relied on Acrobatics since P/P lacks good mobility or escape potential. And oh look, the Acrobatics trait line is absolutely terrible now, too.
And pistol mastery has been reduced to only doing bonus damage while the target is crippled, so p/p does less single target damage now, too.
So now, p/p thieves can’t tag more than one target, can’t reach as far, can’t heal as well, can’t dodge as well, and can’t hit its main as hard, and does much less damage overall.
Sorry, but p/p is dead. OP is trying to make the best out of a ruined weapon set, but the usefulness or viability just isn’t there anymore.
false information, p/p is still good. I don’t get with these people saying p/p is dead, i win my matches with it, i win some 1 v 1 and i even beat some d/p builds with it

This kind of thinking is not healthy for the state of the game. You are giving false information to new players that guild wars 2 have a very limited meta playstyle

Just saying, ranger’s strong point in pvp is never RF.
If ranger’s good point is just RF, it’d have died in this meta a thousand times. Rather, ranger’s strong point is tremendous soft and hard cc availability post patch.Double Taunt, Cripple, Weakness, Blind, PBS, immobilize, in conjunction with pet’s old CC makes them pretty strong in controlling their opponents while doing sustain damage.
Last note, I think your mobility is a little lacking for a thief XD.
Also, I feel like you provide very little other than damage.Just because it not shown in the video it does not mean a thief with p/p can not provided the things listed.
They have available vulnerability , crippled , poison , weakness , blind and immobolize just as the ranger refferred to. they also have tremendous CC in the way of interrupts via that steal and headshot. The major issue is of course durations of said conditions from the set and the INI eaten up which is why I feel a few tweaks needed.
You can get mobility too by swapping blinding powder with infiltration signet or something that you like and use withdraw instead of the stealth heal and grab trickery trait for more condi removal.
if you want you can also use d/p or shortbow as your secondary for more mobility. My video only there to show you guys the massive damage that unload can do and the advantage of using it ( range ) is huge. Granted, i’m not a good player, but i’m pretty sure in the hand of a good player p/p power can be a beast.

It just ridiculous how people complain that p/p is not good and how the game lack meta, yet im winning left and right with this no meta build.
I can’t comment on pve yet since my pve set is a d/d p/d condi, but i don’t see how this build not viable in pve since you do so much more single target damage at range which is a much safer place. Not to mention you also gain haste and 7% more crit damage if you shot you opponent back.
I really disagree with the whole statement that the meta is limited, i really think that certain build is good at certain situations, different playstyle and counters. I mean just because you lost in 1 v 1 duels doesn’t mean that your build is really bad. Your opinions in forum may have an effect larger than you think because new players also read these posts.
We may have lost ricochet, but we gain no quarter, executioner and revealed training.
we gain 50% more dps with unload single target. If you want to go 1 v 1 with p/p you can tweak your build by swapping deadly arts with shadow arts or acrobatic for more survivability and mobility. it is up to you.
The only tweak i can think of would be reduce the initiative cost on pistol 4 and 2.

too bad my pve sets are condi d/d and d/p so i couldn’t really test on that.
but in small skirmishes its definitely viable.
yes, not only its viable but i’ve been winning a lot of matches with it.
sure i can show 1 v 1 montages, but the point of it is that i want to show that i can actually get lead points while maintaining dps and kills with it, something that even d/p user actually struggle with all these blocks coming from guardian, ele and mesmers..necro also have wells which counters melee dps.
Not sure where all these ppl come from saying that its trash…
revealed training/executioner/no quarter is great for power p/p
try use d/p for your other set maybe and abuse that extra 200 power along with runes of scholar and marauder..
use berserker if you want to yolo and laugh as you see 10k+ damage on top of your enemy

A lot of debate going on about pistol/pistol right now, but after a lot of testing and practice I come to conclusion that pistol/pistol is actually really strong.
What a-net does is basically nerfing the AOE potential of p/p and boost its single target damage. I use p/p before patch and i do like ricochet. but,
no quarter/executioner/revealed training just give p/p a huge single target burst like none ever.
This set doesn’t necessarily work in 1 v1 (although i did win some duels , surprisingly..more than i thought it would), but this build is pure deathball in conquest.. just imagine ranger rapid fire with no cooldown.
I won 8 out of 10 matches with this set on ranked and unranked matches, its 10x more fun than d/p, s/d, d/d condi, p/d condi… This thing might as well be new meta, heck i haven’t played gw 2 in months and this build made me play the game regularly.
I realized that some people will probably say that i lie and bla bla….soo i recorded some matches..

the advantage of p/p is that you are hitting people from range !
unload with basilisk venom + steal ( daze )(mug) + unload is a 20k dps lockdown from range..

you need the elite rampage..to 1 v 2
but for spvp or 1 v 1, signet elite is better since its more reliable

what do you guys think of having these 2 statistics in this game?
Objective holder would calculate how long a person stayed inside objective area.
Hero damage dealt would calculate how much damage a player dealt to the opposite team players.
As of now, i think the pvp statistics are too bland and too small. You can’t even tell what people doing and most of the time, people just ended up doing things on their own. Most of the time people actually ignore these statistics, except for the points.
I think having these 2 statistics will give the game more strategic purpose because it will open up new ideas and make the game more competitive, because it will urge other players to either do more damage or cap more objective.
I don’t think so… Warrior can stack up to 20+ might and that is a ton of dps. If you are talking about burst than sure, medi guard can do a lot of burst with gs 2, but so does warrior with hundred blades and i believe 100b can do much more after you stack up those might.
I think people are just stuck with these " must have longbow " mind set. I played a lot of ranked matches with berserker warrior without longbow and did just fine and even won those matches, but of course there will be people that disagree. Thieves can teleport but GS warrior also have high mobility. There is so much more to warrior than your typical longbow.
I recommend you to theory craft your build more and play test it. Try up more combos. The amount of negativity toward warrior in spvp is so bad in the warrior forums.. Hell i could post a video of me winning a 2 v 1 fight in spvp with gs/axeshield set and warrior forum people will still consider that lucky or the other players are newbs.
In dueling arena and spvp i still see some people running berserker warrior without longbow and win ranked matches.

yeah i agree on specializations is another thing that can add diversity to the game. @Jektt It almost felt like if anet focuses more on spvp, we would’ve have what you suggested earlier. Expansion every 1.5 year would definitely prolong the game ( I would hope new classes would come with this )
@sagat yeah its true that gw 2 classes are hard to balance because of the whole traditional not needed trinity system, but i think human creativity shouldn’t be limited and i’m sure anet can balance more future classes ( if they are thinking of adding one ) or maybe even get some community ideas. During the old days of dota 1 (2004) Icefrog the creator of dota 1 relied a lot on the community to design most of his heroes
I myself doesn’t enjoy gw 2 pve (it is still good though) that much, although i love the spvp.
Hi everyone.. I just wanted to know what everyone think about adding new classes for content in this game. I am an avid Moba player and whenever I hear a new hero or champion is teased for upcoming release, my excitement for the game came back.
Now I really think that guild wars 2 spvp is great and it is definitely different from other mmo out there. Granted, i think the spvp was horrible back in 2012 when it was just mostly Hotjoin, but With the addition of unranked, ranked, and custom arena, the spvp has become something unique and different than any other mmo pvp out there.
The reason of this for me would be, you get to play with different builds for each classes, different game modes and get to use a lot of different outfits/dye.
I really think that gw 2 spvp can surpass moba popularity if Anet commercialized and focuses more on spvp and adding more content through new classes, traits, pvp modes, pvp maps, etc. The Heart of thorns expansion will surely help with this, but what do you guys think of adding more classes in the future as spvp content ?
I think that this game has a lot of potential in the spvp side of things, it just need some tweaks and more classes in spvp to play to set it apart from the other game.
People probably don’t know this, but a lot of players that bought this game in 2012 didn’t even get to try the spvp because they get a bad impression from how different gw2 pve is. My friend would be another example of this, he doesn’t like gw 2 because of how the pve work ( that and the guardian class ), but after i introduce him to spvp and how things work there, he literally got hooked to the game after not touching it for 3 years.
long story short…Spvp is a gem because it has a lot of potential to be a different game and it can attract lots of players that enjoy competitive gaming ( moba players ). One way to add more content to spvp which i love would be adding more classes to the game
( maybe 12 classes by 2017 ? Monk anyone ? ).
I know that its hard to balance and etc, but i really think that spvp content is something worth investing.
Just a moba player opinion though.
I would like to hear other players opinion about this.. Would people rather have Anet investing more of their time for spvp, pve or wvw ?

1-2 viable builds doesnt make the class good. Evasion tank and trap ranger are about the only thing worth using. I personally want a kitten longbow glass cannon build. Cant do that currently, not viably.
then that is not the ranger class problem.
- guardian are forced to go bunker and so does ele in tpvp.
- warriors are forced to go 100b in tpvp.
- thief are forced to go glass cannon in tpvp.
- mesmers are supposed to have portal and time warp.
and i can go on

The problem with mesmer class is that their heals have very low cooldown, which means a good mesmer will always use it at least 2 – 3 times in a fight.. with that being said your only heal that can match up with that is troll unguent simply because you can use troll before the fight even started..
after that simply keep putting the pressure on the real 1.. most people lose the fight because they lost track of the real mesmer and stop the pressure. applying pressure is what rangers good at because our crossfire have fast atk speed, add that with pet atk speed and you get yourself a ridiculous dps.
outsurvive mesmer heal with troll unguent and just give additional pressure with burn trap, not spike.. burn trap is our best trap against mesmer cause its aoe burn is continuous unlike spike trap. our 2nd best utility against mesmer would be lightning reflex because s/p mesmer will always do their immobilize – blurred frenzy combo.
3rd utility would be up to you…
shatter mesmer shouldn’t even be a problem to you because they should just drop fast when you get the opening attack on them..

- ranger is one of the best 1 v 1 class.
- condi ranger destroys bunker.
- trap ranger pretty much destroy thief as well lol..
- can kite melee class with ease.
I can go on and on, but if people still want to think ranger is a bad class then idk what else to say.
First of all i know like tons of people who wanted to play gw2, dota 2, hon and all those other games, but simply they can’t. People play league because :
1. they don’t have good pc to run those games.
2. they don’t have money to buy those games.
3. since most people don’t have the pc nor money to buy those games which are the majority of the people today, people will end up playing games that they can run ..and guess what that game is league.
4. " bandwagon theory " The same reason why there are a lot of heat fans or Lakers fan that dont know more than 3 players on the team. People like to bandwagon to fit in with the group and since all their other friends play league so of course they will play league.
I played a lot of games so far in life starting from sega – ps 1 – ps 2 – xbox 360 – ps 3 – pc.
so yes i played moba such as league, hon, dota, smite and other strategy games. Do i think league is good ? the answer is…. no not at all.
Hon and dota 2 has better gameplay, rewards and overall looks. League have so many balance problems and if you play the game after you played moba games like dota and hon the combat is just feels too slow paced ( it just sucs ).. i would rather play dota 2 and gw 2.
But why do i still play league…. ? the answer is simple, the game is more popular !! people watch it, stream it, talk about it..or idk kitten on it and my friends all talk about it.
p.s if you think league is better than dota 2 pls rethink again melee carry in league have close to no chance what so ever in pro plays so you are gimped to aoe and cc plays… so you are basically gimped, but the game is still popular cause simply its popular.

Telling you right now Axe/Mace isn’t “THAT” forgiving or rewarding. If you actually tried Axe/Mace against good players :x
100b is easy to avoid unless the enemy is pre-stunned/immob’d. Axe can pressure you with stronger attacks the entire time.
It’s not a retreating weapon. It’s an attacking weapon. You have to pick your battles more, but it is better in terms of damage.
Lets face it… in gw 2 spvp and tpvp how many times you get into a 1 v 1 confrontation?
you most likely get into team fight or 2 v 1 confrontation… in conquest game mode mobility is the key and axe doesn’t give any mobility at all.
If this were a 3 v 3 team death match then i would go axe, but too bad it isn’t so hands down great sword is more viable simply because mobility.
oh not to mention even in team fight hammer is still better than both and again hammer lack the mobility we need. Because its a kitten conquest, we need to " move " to win.

Axe is a strong weapon i agreed, but the lack of mobility brings me back to greatsword.. sure 100b can’t be used while moving, but greatsword 3 and 5 is what makes greatsword better than axe in tpvp and maybe spvp…
you can’t escape from zergs with axes on spvp and you can’t roam well without greatsword 5, but in wvw its different story.
Obviously, the game mode in gw2 needs to be made more interesting as it creates a boring meta of tanks and split builds and mesmer portaling.
Players cannot play what they want to be competitive.
Also, the pvp music is some of the worse I’ve heard.
Yea i agreed, and actually i don’t mind tanks if it were 3 v 3 TDM, but the game mode forces people to go bunker and mesmer. I believe that with different game mode people can go different build and practice with their favorite build.
My suggestion would be :
– Give better rewards in spvp.
– More game modes ( team deathmatch, capture the flag, etc).
– More class balance so that other classes can get the same treatment like guardian/mesmer in spvp.
- matchmaking system.

you also forgot that moba games have progression in where a farmed players or players with lots of kills can have better gears and higher level.
which can give the player huge advantage over others and this advantage make that players feel strong or better than the others, those kind of progression did not exist in gw 2.
in dota 2 a farmed carry can 1 v 5 .. in gw 2 2 v 1 is almost impossible let alone 1 v 5
If you think warrior sucs in tpvp than you probably been playing it wrong..
greatsword have a lot of skills that deals aoe damage and with leg specialist your greatsword throw skill can immobilize, not to mention gs no 3 spin and hundred blade can also deal cone area damage.
Hammer build warrior have lots of toughness and have aoe cc and cripple
( immobilize if traited ), hammer no 4 is also an aoe interrupt.
Warriors can also revive faster than thief and they have stability.
It all depends on the player and their liking. I can see a lot potential for warrior in tpvp if well played.
1. A shatter Mesmer (the most common 20/20/0/30/30 used by everyone)
2. A 1v1 Ranger
3. A DPS Guardian (with the Meditations Oppa build)
4. A 1v1 Engineer Holder (like the one used by Magz from Onibawan) in a close space.

I would put ranger as number 1 simply because ranger has constant dee pee ess with the short bow.. tell me any other class that match the attack speed and range of ranger shortbow.
ranger shortbow damage is rapid and consistent which is what you need to beat guardian and even ele.
other than that your only option would be catch them off guard with 100b or basilisk backstab.

Guardian is a tank class..it always has been in any m m o … I think warrior need some buffs and bug fix.
My ranger has no problem against thief .. I run trap build and they can’t even come close..and if they want to do some range fight..short bow ranger will always win
ranger trap build and pet build can be pretty op.
downed vs downed
warrior class will always win no matter what..
because you get stability and invulnerability for 4 second right after you use vengeance
and wow thief has the weakest downed state in the game so thief downed state definitely wont beat ranger ..
you are not supposed to finish thief during their downed state, just atk them.
warrior has the best downed state IMO and ranger is the second best.

The game usually comes down to 2v1/5v5/4v4 due to how roamers function.
Otherwise, everyone would be running nothing but Trap Rangers, Shout Warriors, and Bunker Eles.
Basically, the tankier you build, the better 1v1 potential you will have. But the glassier you can build and still outplay your opponents, the more useful you will be to your team overall, generally.
trap ranger and bunker ele can still be killable in 1 v 1 match by glass cannon..it all depend on the players on what kind of play style they prefer and what their good at.
thief is not op.. they have low base health and little protection beside stealth
for a backstab thief to be good they need to go glass cannon and d/d condition thief has to sacrifice their damage, and again most they have will still be below 20k health.
most thief cant even survive bull charge – 100b combo..
I always felt like gw 2 is game where they focus more on pve than pvp..
maybe give all classes or some classes a utility skill that give a reveal debuff for 5 second

It’s all pretty straight forward. I haven’t done SPvP on my warrior since about 2 weeks after launch because warriors are terrible in that area of the game so I guess you’re talking about wvw or pve.
False..warrior is actually pretty good in 5 v 5 tpvp and can be good in 8 v 8 spvp depending on the players..
reason why ppl think warrior is bad is because those people keep getting caught by zergs or 2 v 1 disadvantage.
you need 2 utilities to beat d/d elementalist
frenzy and bull charge
it doesn’t matter what weapon you use…just use those 2 skills when their earth shield is down and cc chain or burst.
pray that you crit while doing so
dual axe warrior is a really good glass cannon warrior ( beside gs )..

enjoy your crits in wvw and spvp..

Imo this game should have more stable respawn countdown..
Its ridiculous when you just killed someone and when you are chasing down the other player, the player you just killed 5 sec ago came in and interrupt.
