I really wanted a ticket so I overspent:

40 gold for 1,000 regular coffers = no ticket
60 gold exchanged for 2,000 gems for 25 rich coffers = no ticket
40 gold for 1,000 regular coffers = no ticket
80 gold for 2,000 regular coffers = 1 ticket (Finally!) with 50 regular coffers left

Total = 220 gold for 4,000 regular coffers and 25 rich coffers = 4,773 taffy, 21 risen knights, 422 fireworks, 34 potions, 1 ticket

I kinda freaked out on how much gold I spent so I sold all the taffy, a bunch of extra mats, ectos and snowflakes from my bank (still keeping 1 stack of 250 of each). Then I farmed for 5 hours and got around 800 coffers that I sold. In all, I’m still down 35 gold, but I’m really liking my dragon staff!

Gratz! I only have one main so I made lots of characters with 15 slot bags for bank space since I can’t afford gems on my income being a uni student! I got a few bank slots with gold when they were being sold cheap though so that helped. Least you got it in the end, even so, 220g’s. I bought my coffers in a fit of rage after my work corrupted.

Funny story, this is for a single item. In the old MMO I played, when upgrading armour, near +9 out of +10 (Which was the maximum you could upgrade a piece), you had a 0.03-0.05% chance of succeeding in upgrading, the upgrade itself would cost about 3,000,000 of the ingame currency, the kicker was that if the upgrade failed, you lost the item. I repeat, you LOST the item you were trying to upgrade. Now these could be work anything past One billion currency. But oh boy, they offered protection! For forty million of the currency….PER try. I get that 0.1 is a bit of a kicker, but at least i’m not losing as much as back in Flyff.

Not sure what that has to do with this? The item here is only for aesthetic purposes

Not much, the upgrading was for aesthetics as well as stats. But it was just how the cruddy chances reminded me of it. ^^

Gratz on getting your ticket! And yeah, but maybe one day it’ll be easier, heck, it’s GETTING easier to get these skins. You don’t need to buy 10 bajillion keys, and the crates are relatively inexpensive for the most part. It’s still like day four of the event, i’m sure people will get theirs as supply of crates increases and the demand decreases.

Personally? I think regular ones are the way to go, simply because, for the same price as 8 rich coffers, you could get almost 1000 regular coffers. 8 chances with a SLIGHTLY higher chance, or 1000 chances with the usual chance.

Good and bad points, as is RNG. It’s really a bummer, but I think that ANet are taking a step in the right direction. Releasing them as things that drop from just about everything helps quite a bit, still bit of a bummer due to the chance. DX

From what I understand, On-Critical Sigils share an internal cooldown, so using two different Sigils that are supposed to trigger would not be to your benefit. This is particularly of detriment since a main-hand Sigil will generally have priority to activate over an off-hand, so you would essentially never see your Sigil of Generosity trigger, which would be a pity since they’re so expensive.

Generally speaking, a static buff like Force or Accuracy or Kill-Stacking Sigil like Bloodlust would probably be better suited for your Focus, since you’re using an On-Critical Sigil on your main hand. Also worth noting is that if you use an On-Weapon Swap Sigil, it will also activate the internal cool down timer, thus preventing any On-Critical Sigils in the same weapon set from activating until the On-Weapon Swap Sigil’s cool down time has passed. (Confused yet? Me too.)

As for the Greatsword, you could really use whatever you’d like since the timing of weapon swaps and internal cool downs would likely minimize any interference from your other weapon set.

I’m both a DPS/Support character, as to why I have the Focus reflection trait and such. I’m good at saving people. I’m in a bit of a pickle here, more damage or more survivability. Still can’t decide on what runes too, gosh I need to decide…

I’m probably going to have my focus a Soldier traited one (As I’ve almost got my Minstrel, 10% more completion!) and a berserker sword.

Well, here’s the rough comparison:

5 Superior Runes of the Eagle + Ruby Orb

So basically, you’d be trading out 119 Precision (Which I believe is about 5% Critical Chance at level 80) for a moderate boost in each of your other stats.

Granted, you’re probably not going to notice a significant change in some of those stats (Healing Power and Condition Damage, specifically) but the slight increase in base damage and ability to survive might ultimately allow you to do more damage in the long term. (You can’t DPS if you’re dead!)

That all said, Superior Runes of Divinity can be pretty pricey. If you’re just looking to drop some Precision and boost Toughness/Vitality, Valkyrie Armor in a slot or two and maybe switching a Trinket might be a more cost effective option that would yield similar results. The main thing that you can’t really substitute is that extra 2% Critical Damage you would gain by swapping to Divinity Runes, so it’s really a matter of how much Gold that extra 2% is worth to you.

I see, looks like a bit of a hard decision to make for an oddball like myself, may take a bit, I got the money though.

Also, in terms of Sigils, I was thinking having a Generosity Sigil on my Focus and a Fire Sigil on my sword (Since we don’t have active condition heals aside from Null Field) and maybe a Bloodlust on my GS?

Is this mostly for PvE or PvP? For the former, it sounds like you’re pretty much set. You might even consider swapping out some of the Cavalier pieces for Berserker or Berserker+Valkyrie trinkets if you’re not having trouble staying alive.

For PvP, swapping in some Valkyrie armor pieces (Trading Precision for Vitality) or more Cavalier Trinkets could potentially help with staying alive if that’s a challenge for you in World versus World, but otherwise it seems like you’ve pretty much got a goal in mind and have figured out how to gear up appropriately already. <3

It’s not too much a concern to stay alive, I do PvE, Fractals, and WvW! When I get close I use Blurred Frenzy and kick in Invulnurability most of the time so i’m usually safe, i’m just debating the possibility of Divinity runes. Not too sure at the momento.

I use Sword/Focus with Greatsword as my secondary, my build is 10/20/10(Thinking of putting this into Dueling with Deceptive Evasion.)/25/5.

I have on Domination; (V), Dueling (IV and II), Chaos (IV), Inspiration (II and VIII)

I’m not sure what gear to go with, currently i’ve got a full berserker set with eagle runes and 1 x ruby orb. On my jewellery I have 1 cavalier and 1 berserker accessory/ring (Like 1 ring is zerker and the other is cavalier, same for earrings) berserker amulet and backpiece. Not exactly sure whether or not I should be going for different gear or not. This is a phantasm build also. Any thoughts?

I’d rather be safe than sorry, it happened in a game I played previously called Flyff, I was just wondering if there were any rules about it I needed to be made aware of. It may just be here-say but theres meant to be a limit on how many gems you can buy a month, right?

I have a hobby, this hobby is drawing art, I do this through commissions where I get paid so much. I know it’s a stupid thing to ask, but if I periodically buy gems using the money I make from my artwork, is that a bannable offence? I just don’t want to be constantly converting gems and ending up banned.

I like using the gold to flesh out my mini collection as I don’t get much time to play due to college work, so when I do play, I like just having a giggle nowadays rather than farming.

I’m not sure whats better in all honesty. Would you suggest dropping Chaos to 10 and having a Scepter and Sword/Pistol in there? That’d give me some ranged attacks if I require to fall back at least.

2. In Dueling, I went with Phantasmal Fury because I believed slapping an extra 20% critical on them would prove useful in getting Fire sigil to activate. And since it was a phantasm build I didn’t think Illusions played much of a role, especially if I got a phantasm up and I have to dodge, which could potentially make it splode mid-way through it’s attack if i’m already maxed up with illusions.

3. So utilities should be Blink (I use this often!) Mirror Images, and Feedback, along with the lovely Time Warp?

On the note of Berserker Armour, I already have a full set of exotic 80 with eagle sigils, and i’ve been feeling squishy at the moment, going down quite a bit during the Molten Weapons Facility which i’ve been using to test it with, maybe it’s just because i’ve swapped from Greatsword (Ranged) to a Melee range set.

5. I can see the reasoning in the Bloodlust sigil, but in that same breath, if i’m swapping to 10 chaos, would it be better to have a Bloodlust in a Scepter and another Fire in the Pistol (for Phantasmal Duelist)?

1. I totally don’t recommend you the scepter. Since 30th April it’s a broken weapon. 2s to create a clon, 1 block that has longer cd than OH sword block and a slow skill to inflict confusion, which is terrible in WvW and bad in PvE.
You can keep with the staff and put only 10 points. Staff is the best supportive weapon and a perfect second set.

2. Ok, so keep fury and sword trait. My change was because I didn’t know what you wanted to be, now I know you want more phantasms I understand more this xd

3. Yes. Since this is a phantasm build, you can try phantasmal defender for Mirror images or feedback, but this 2 are ok.

5. Oh, if you want to have focus and pistol, then go sword/focus scepter/pistol. For sigils I’d put Generosity/Fire for sword/focus and bloodlust/fire for scepter/pistol.
But for me, is better to have staff as second weapon. iWarlock is strong too and with chaos storm and chaos armor, + combos with ethereal and phase retreat, you will survive a lot more.

One last thing. Sigils only work on you, not your illusions. Same happens with runes. So Fire and generosity sigils will only activate with your critics. Phantasms won’t activate them. That is another reason why not to use scepter, since it is a slow weapon and you don’t get much benefit from sigils.

Ok, so finally;

10/20/10/25/5

10 = III
20 = II/IV
10 = IV
25 = III/VIII
5 = Yeah.

Armour is all berserkers, currently sigilled for Eagle Runes, it would be worth sticking Divinity in or is there a better choice for me?

Trying to do a build for everything tents to end with less potential builds. So I suggest you to focus more on a pve-fractals builds and a separated WvW build.
This can be applied to what you focus on a build. With this build you want to make lots of things, but you don’t specialize in anything. It’s better to focus on phantasms or shatters, but not both. They’re quite the opposite xd It works the same for DPS-support builds.

Talking about the build:
Traits
First of all, I don’t understand why you spend so much points in chaos. The only trait I think that’s worth with sword/focus is IV. Then, if you will use quite a lot the staff is better to have trait X, which reduces staff cd.
What I recommend?

• If you’re going to use mainly sword/focus, spend only 10 points with IV trait.
• If you want to play more with staff, spend 20 points with traits IV and X.

Then, there’s Duel traits. Trait X, Duelist evasion, is a must for every mesmer who spends 20 points in duel. I suggest you to use traits IV and X.

In Inspiration, I’d change trait V for III. Read utilities part to know why.

Now we can discuss points you gained with chaos. 5 points in illusions is, again, a must for every mesmer build that one can imagine, since it reduces all cd summon illusion skills.
If you only spend 10 points in chaos, I suggest you to put the 10 last in domination and get traits I or III, depending if you want to increase Mind Wrack or phantasms attack.

Utilities
Signet of Illusions is not good at all. Mirror images or Decoy will do a better job.
The reasons?

• Even with that extra hp, illusions will die with every boss attack or high level fractals.
• As you are not going shatter, you don’t need the active signet action.

Gear
If you can run with it, change your knight armor for berserker. You will gain 16% of critical damage plus some power and you won’t be squishy. With 10/20/10/20/5, berserker armor and the rest of your trinkets and weapons you will still have 2250 armor and +20000 hp.

Sigils
I would definitely change water sigil for generosity. Mesmers lack of condition cleaning and with this one it won’t be a problem anymore. If you cannot afford the Superior, Major one is still good, since it has 40% of chance.

In staff, I would change corruption for bloodlust (more power) or perception (more precision). The reason is that, with mesmers, is not worth to have +250 condition damage if you have very low base condition damage. The fact that we only have confusion as a main condition makes condition damage worthless for us.

Conclusion
You can upgrade your build quite a lot, but keep in mind that the best build is going to be the one that fits on your gameplay style.

A phantasm focused build. Wardens do a lot of aoe damage, and their beauty is in the massive projectile reflecting bubble they provide. The longer they live and the more wardens you can produce, the more effective they will be.

Focus is a poor choice for a shatter build. The warden is on a comparatively long cool down, and is best used by dropping it and letting it persist on the field for as long as possible to provide the greatest utility.

Fair enough, what would you suggest then? If not Focus, what else?

A traited Focus is a beautiful thing, especially if you have a hot focus skin too. (I love Ambrosia, personally – but the choir bell is cute too.)

I’ve spent the past several months as a GS Mesmer, and it’s time for a change. I’ve been using my GS build with the sword/focus, and I have fell in both with the weapons as my main uses. Only thing i’m left wondering is if there is a better build for the two, I swap out to GS if the situation arises that I should need to still. I also need a little help gear wise, would anyone give me a little help? I’ve already checked the build list and haven’t found something that uses Sword/Focus as a main which is kinda buggy for me!
