I’m in the same pool, i’ve played NOTHING but an asura (One of my main focuses for coming to GW2 after my old MMO Flyff died.), and i’m a bit itchy about the legendary deal, Bolt is what i’m debating, along with several others, but it’s not the weapon size thats the issue, it’s the effects which are huge in proportion to the Asura. ~

what build are you looking for? as you know mesmers can specialize in anything in any part of the game, personally i always change my weapon sets depending on the encounter (pve or pvp) i.e. thief i will chuck a staff on and sword + focus with the chaos field you can instantly nulify stealth and curtain also pulls them out of stealth, while giving you retaliatio…

Mainly tryin’ not to be a Greatsworder. I’d use it as secondary, maybe. I’m quite liking Sword in MH so far, not sure what to do for secondary. I’m a bit of a collecto-holic in terms of pretty weapons, and given my shallow disposition, I like having a good looking weapon.

Small Update; Has a fiddle on mesmer and Sword/Focus is alright thus far, not too sure what to do with the second set of weapons though, Scepter/Pistol? I also need a little help build wise!

Mesmer is on my “must play in the future” list, but I haven’t gotten there yet. Some things look interesting on paper, but I always end up changing my opinions when I’m actually playing a class.

I actually end up playing x2 characters of each class that I’ve started since I end up liking multiple spec paths and it’s too hard to choose just one. So I’ll eventually hit Mesmer, but that probably won’t be until Character #7. (I’m currently working on Character #5 and all of them are somewhere between 50th and 80th level.)

I’ll have to have a fiddle, May do something like 2 × 2 weapons.

Not a problem. If you’re checking the Wiki to look at possible class builds, also check the patch notes from today since the Wiki won’t be accurate.

Thief - The trait called Leeching Venoms got buffed today, which helps out a Venomous Aura player.

Warrior - Between the buff to a specific Rifle skill, the serious changes to Signet of Might, and the combining of the old 30 pt Discipline traits, most of the reasons that I suggested a Rifle assassin are from the patch notes.

I see, what are your thoughts on Mesmer? With the Main/off-hand weapons?

Hmmm… Here are some general suggestions then.

1) Warrior: Between the end line trait called Healing Shouts and Superior Runes of the Soldier, you have a decent amount of AoE effects. There were some interesting buffs that affected the Rifle (directly and indirectly). I could picture you running a Knight / Berserker ranged assassin spec with a Shout focused Rifle spec. (Max out Tactics and Discipline lines, which leaves 10 pts left.) It could be interesting and it would meet your qualification.

2) Ranger: While I’ve never played the class and I know that people often complain that it is under powered, I remember hearing that their Spirit trait / skill spec has some really strong support options and it would give you plenty of ranged combat options.

3) Thief: If you’re regularly running with a core group of people, a Venomous Aura trait build could be interesting. Since a devoted VA spec pretty much requires 30 pts in Deadly Arts and 30 pts in Shadow Arts, you don’t have a lot of room for playing around with trait choices. The spec certainly doesn’t play like a traditional Thief build. However it is a very strong spec when you have people to buff. If you ran the Shortbow and other weapon set for melee circumstances, then the spec has some real potential. (Disclaimer: My main is a VA spec that use S/P and SB. All things considered, VA players are rare and generally considered to be an abberation amongst Thief players.)

Ranger might be a interesting choice – I’ve not played one so can’t comment from experience, however I have been tempted by the skills/utilities and weapons available.

I know what you mean though, once you’ve played mesmer it’s hard to play anything else, although extended play on any class will become monotonous after a certain amount of time.

Playing with one weapon didn’t help either. I could probably fiddle about two weapon sets, that might help, it’s just finding a build and a new way to play after so long.

1) What do you consider “support” to be? Debuffing enemy mobs? Using control effects to lock down trash mobs? Buffing allies? Healing allies?

2) The classes you’ve mentioned so far have been ranged classes. Do you have a preference of ranged over melee combat?

3) Just how important is WvW viability to you? I see that this was a factor in your losing interest in Engineer, so I’m trying to figure out just how this can influence my suggestion.

1. In general, I like being helpful. I could use Time Warp, Feedback to shelter friends from ranged abilities whilst healing, illusion of life and such came in handy too.

2. I do prefer ranged, but the closer ranged mesmer is alright thus far, it’s just…I feel a bit lacking in the DPS section.

3. WvW is where I spend a lot of my free time with my friends and guild mates, i’m not a fan of sPvP for some reason beknownst to myself, I just couldn’t get into it. I’m really a PvE/WvW sorta of person, I can happily float around maps for hours just wandering with the UI and such off for a nice stroll! ~

Did you try conjured weapons on your ele (hammer/axe/bow, or even be quirky and make a build around the earth shield)?

I’m in a similar boat as a mesmer main (well second main – first was a thief but that got boring fast so I deleted it), and need a change of pace/style. Guardian is one class I’ve found almost as fun, particularly with a hammer build, however now I’m finding the ele with conjured weapons a little more fun (guardians have some good utilities like judge’s intervention, but the lack of mobility and many “meh” weapons outside of the hammer made me turn away from it).

You could also try warrior – plenty of weapons to choose between there.

Mind you I’m saying this because of looking for a class with more physical abilities, so not taking into account things like the necro.

I’d go with a hammer guardian but the hammer really doesn’t interest me. I use to use a combination of Ice Bow and Fire Greatsword on my Ele, I like them, they’re powerful, but i’m really aiming to have a legendary as my main weapon. I’d be more inclined to go with Elementalist but with the lack of a second weapon set it’s a bit…Unappealing. Mesmer is really the class I should be in, it’s got everything I like, but i’ve lost interest with greatsword and have some difficulty in getting used to the other sets/even finding a build.

((This may be a bit of a read as a warning, I just want to note everything!))

I’ve been a mesmer for about…Forever. I’ve loved playing Mesmer but lately it’s become..Mrehhhhh. Greatsword #2-#4-#3-ZAPZAPZAP. It begins to get a bit…repetitive. I’ve tried out Engineer to 50, but with the recent nerf in WvW it’s lost quite a bit of it’s appeal for me. D/D Elementalist all the way to 80 and I found myself a bit meh with the constant attunement swapping, i’d rather stay on one with the occassional change for situations, but I feel like i’m not much use then.

I’ve played enough that I need 50 runestones and a little completion on the map for my legendary too, so I’d like to settle into a class I will enjoy from here on out.

The legendaries that I like the most are Quip, Kraitkin, Meteorlogicus, Incinerator, Rodgort, Bolt, and Minstrel (When the effects actually work).

I’m looking for a nice DPS class where I can also offer support to my group (I often do instances and FOTM so it’s essential!)

Big point is I am VERY shallow about my character, I find it hard finding armour I like the look of so it’s key to have nice armour for me!

I’m open to suggestions, thanks in advance for your help! I’ll answer anymore questions or answers you have as fast as I can!

Whenever I preview The Minstrel, it more often than not comes up with no effects, but sometimes it has a large burst of music bursts which seems to go on and on. I am currently debating on crafting the Minstrel as I run a Sword/Focus Mesmer and think it’d go pretty nice, I literally have to do some completion and get Bard and it’s all done.

Is this a glitch or is it just the way things go?

If you have a AM3+ mobo and don’t want to shell out too much money then I would understand getting the 8350, although you won’t benefit from the extra cores that the 8350 offers.
The i5 3570k and i7 3770k seem to have better overall performance with GW2 but both AMD and Intel high end CPUs are good for GW2.
Most people with those CPUs will usually get a good aftermarket cooler in order to overclock(which GW2 loves).

Main reason I was looking at an 8 core is because I do a lot of video rendering for hobbies and projects. =o

Well since GW2 is all about loving the CPU, I would say it would have a fair difference. Especially considering the FX8350 is top of the line. Worst case scenario in WvW with 100+ people you should be able to attain close to 30FPS if you set the culling radius to max and detail to low. PvP the processor shouldn’t have any issue. PvE the only problem you might run into is large dynamic events that will make the CPU chug a bit similar to the WvW experience above. I’m not sure what you are currently experiencing , but that is what you can expect with the FX 8350. Note that I have not dealt with this processor, I’m just basing my observations from others who have posted on these forums relating their experience to the processor. A search should find a lot of threads about how people compare the FX 8350 and i5 3570K and i7 3770K.

Thanks for ya thoughts; I’d delve into the world of intel but that means buying a new Mobo as i’ve got an AM3 socket on my current bubbah. to give an idea of what my current processor is capable of, on all the highest settings minus Super-sample, I get about 30-40 fps in LA, so it’s not all bad, but I should be putting my money into something a bit more futureproof. Thanks for the advice! =D

The world doesn’t turn around HGH and 409. If anything, you’re more than welcome to try anything that comes through your mind because they all serve a good purpose, even is situationnal.

Well is there any other builds you’d suggest revolving around dual pistols? I’d love to hear some, I see some people attempting full Power/Pre/Toughness builds but i’m not sure about them.

I currently have a 955 Phenom BE and i’m looking at an FX 8350. I wondered how much of a difference this would make to GW2.

I currently have 2 × 6970′s in crossfire but even then the FPS is still better with just one card operating. Using CAP files still leaves crossfire 10 FPS behind a single card so i’ll be selling off one of them to pay for the new processor.

Any help you could give me would be lovely, thank you in advance!

I’m currently making an engineer, HGH with dual pistols. I’m moving over from my mesmer because…It’s become too easy for me. I can look away from the screen and think to myself happily “Eh, no one’s gonna get me.” (PS; Mesmer is the only class i’ve played for the past 4 months)

I need more of a challenge, and when I tried out Engineer I have to say, I fell in love with the class, all the goofyness of it, and it’s something where you’ve got to be aware of whats happening.

On that note my quest for Sunrise diverted and became a quest for Quip, which i’ve almost got now! So with one hurdle down, it’s the next, which jewellery to get.

I’ve got a Speakers Dawncord which gives me Precision/Toughness/Condition damage.

For my accessories I was thinking to go with a Molten Ore (Power/Precision/Toughness) and a Marriners Flask (Precision/Toughness/Condition Damage)

For my rings i’d go with 2 x Rabid Rings, but i’m not sure whether to go with 1 x Rabid and another “Of the knight” (Precision/Power/Toughness)

I’d go with a Rabid Fractal Capacitor also as my backpiece.

In terms of armour, I was thinking I should go with Vatlaaw’s armour which has Rabid stats as well, runes I wasn’t so sure of!

With my weapons i’ll be having a Quip (Which gives Power/Toughness/Vitality) so I imagine that a Rabid weapon would go better on the side here?

This is all just my thoughts, i’ve not played the engineer for long and i’m at level 41 after about 5 days. Thought i’d come here for some thoughts. Thank you in advance! Have fun playing!

Aha! Great great! I only get about 2 days a week to properly play nowadays so i’m trying to keep at many as I can! Gotta balance play between going for Quip and getting the baubles!

Will Baubles be used as the currency in the later expansions of SAB?

Just thought i’d ask as if this is so, I can hang onto my baubles and get Pistols and such whenever they may come out. It’d be nice if this is the case so all my replaying of this wonderful addition isn’t gonna go to waste, not that it could with all the fun i’ve had!

I am most kittened off this morning! Logged in, got my last few gold to get Emberglow, and It’s more than doubled in price over night! From 16G to 35G, and I believe it’s due to the AC Dungeon becoming….A bit harder? Not sure if thats an understatement but it’s annoyed me quite a bit! I know it’s just me ranting but I didn’t know where to put this, be it the Dungeon, BLTC, or Crafting forum. In other news, is there anything else that has increased as a result of the dungeon changes?

I don’t find my mesmer to be a poor farmer at all, and a lack of AOE? We got all those shatters, and all you need to do it tap them in order to receive something. I run around with a greatsword, I’ve got my 4 bounces from GS2 Mirror Blade, my Zerker hits the entire crowd almost too. Karka’s are where I farm usually but thats because i’m after a Karka Pet, but I still do fine when farming in Orr. =o

Just upgraded to Windows 8 Pro from the W8 Beta preview after it started getting angry that I hadn’t upgraded and would restart my PC every 2 hours until I did, goes just as well as it did before!

People buy dungeon armor to salvage for ectos all the time.

If buying rares, just make sure they are level 68 or higher if you are going to salvage for ectos.

For AC tokens, you must buy exotic to get a chance at ectos.

I was just a bit iffy because it seemed like a sly thing to do, and I remember a while back people were doing things with karma armour and such so I just wanted to be sure. =)

You can salvage the rares but you wont get any ectos because they are level 35.

Exotics yes.

You can also throw them in the MF and get something back you can sell. So maybe you can get 4 exotics, put them in the MF, get a good exotic back and sell for 2-3g then buy the ectos.

I’ve slowly been building up tears from running AC with the guild, and i’ve quite literally ran out of space in my bank, I was wondering if it was possible for me to spend them upon Dungeon Armour (The Ascalonion Clergy or the rares from the Token Vendor) and sell on the Ectoplasm’s/save them for my legendary? I remember there was a big thing before about dungeon armour and I was wondering if this was allowed before I start doing it like some numpty and get myself banned.

In short;

May I have armour from dungeon vendors with tokens, salvage them, and use/sell the ecto’s?

I’m not usually so into PvP as to moan about it, but when the hearts tab is missing, It began to make me worry a little.

On my other characters, it seems to be there, though it may just be me being paranoid, is there anything that I can do to regain the tab?

As a note, I can still access the mists via the portal in Lions Arch.

If the only thing you don’t like about Mesmer is it’s damage output, then go with mesmer. Skilled play can make up for that easily. It REQUIRES skilled play, so you’ll have to get good, but that’s a thing you can do.

No amount of practice is gonna let an elementalist wield a greatsword, sadly.

@ Coding – What sort of skill does it require? I’m assuming timing on the shattering of clones and such.

Well Mesmer is a tough class to master but once you master it with certain builds you can be a powerhouse in PvE and PvP.

I bet, What sort of build would you suggest to me? I’m pretty used to using Dagger/Dagger as an Ele, so i’m used to keeping out of danger at least.

Which class should I pick?

I’ve got some information to make it a little easier but i’ve been debating this for a long time.

Mesmer or Elementalist.

What I like about each class;

Mesmer -
. Weapon choices (Namely Greatsword and Pistols)
. Clones
. The buffs that come with it

Con’s
. Damage output, though this may be due to me being used to Elementalist

Elementalist –
Pro’s
. Damage Output in PvE
. Mobility (Speed movement)
. Range of attack

Con’s
. Lack of weapon choice
. Can be squishy

Overall, PvE is the most important aspect to me, but i’d also like a range of weaponry, such as the GS and Pistols. Would anyone be able to help me in deciding?

I know! If anyone is on Whiteside Ridge and wants to help out a nabby that’s all good too. <3

It’s a right bugger, say when I want to take the sweet book to my Alt, I can’t as it’s stuck on my elementalist. It’d have been much better if it was Account Bound like the Witch’ kittenor the Devil Horns. It was hard enough getting the book from the level 60 area’s, so being a level 20-30 Mesmer isn’t going to help my case in getting one.

I know there is probably a thread similar to this but it really grinds my gears.

I’m not having much luck, I survive great (I’ve played one elementalist until 80 already), I do decent damage, but…Something about it feels off.

My Traits are 20/20/30

I make use of the Written in Stone trait and use Signets of Fire and Earth.

I love the fast combat of the elementalist also, I can take down monster’s that are around 3-5 levels higher than me with relative ease by starting off with Drakes Breath and getting a nice 7 seconds of burning or so, then moving around with the other skills available.

At higher levels, it really becomes an AOE-ish sort of feel, which I quite like, and have fun with, but am I doing something wrong?

I don’t play sPvP a lot, if at all, I go into WvW sometimes if the guild goes in, and i’m more for PvE than anything else.

I’m liking the gameplay, and doing alright with it, but it feels like i’m missing something.

If I focus on Condition damage i’m going to want something like Vitality, Power, and Condition Damage, right?

Sorry to be bugging you guys with this, i’m just not used to using certain skills and such. The old MMO I was on for the previous 5-6 years focused on stat placement and basically clicking on a monster. If you messed up the stats, you either had to pay £30 to get a restat or start a new character…So…Yeah.

So I thought i’d give Mesmer a shot, I’ve played as an Elementalist Dagger Dagger from start, relying on the condition damage and such. I got pretty good at it, but it gets a bit tiresome after a while.

So I thought “Time for a change!” I usually only play Asura, just my race of choice, and i’m picky with looks, I know it’s pathetic but its how I enjoy my game. So I generally stick with the classes capable of Light Armor. I like the look of the Sword+Pistol/Greatsword but it honestly feels like i’m being owned compared to when I was a lower level on my Elementalist.

I don’t usually play sPvP so that’s out of the question, but I love playing WvW and PvE, so that should help with stat placement a little bit.

I realise this class may not be for me, but who knows? Couldnt hurt to try!
