I haven’t discovered any way to buy more than one item in a single transaction.
That would be a nice feature to add.
Possible work around: Options —> Graphics —> Environment; change setting to medium.
If your shots are “pitifully short” you may not be holding the fire button long enough. You must depress and hold “Fire” until the charge bar fills to approximately 75% in order for your shots to reach the Risen ship.
No advice for the sewers. When I did that quest with my ranger months ago I didn’t have the issues you are.

I haven’t found one either. It’s probably due to the amount of variables in PVE that no one has taken on the task of coding a PVE specific build calculator.
From what I’ve found on GW2 Wiki, the second rifle you posted has the same skin as Legionnaire Bayonet.

This happened on Sorrow’s Furnace a couple of weeks ago. The node is located in the space between the rocks and wall.
I get the same thing on my Ranger if I have Rune of the Ranger on PVE and PVP. This has been acknowledged by the Devs as a bug and they have stated it does not affect the abilities being applied.

Based on my search that is Conjurer Armor.

It would help if you stated which server this is occurring on so they know which one to fix.
On Sorrow’s Furnace this event is working.
Hopefully this is on the Dev’s “To-Do” list.

@ Ortumbra
The armor suggested for this build contains the stats “Power, Toughness, and Vitiality”.
You can acquire the armor at any of the locations you mentioned; Sorrow’s Embrace, Ascalonian Catacombs, Honor of the Waves, and WvWvW (Invaders).
I believe the entrance is under the Temple of Melandru.
Without knowing your budget and your definition of “good”, the only suggestion I will give is to copy/paste “gw2 cpu benchmarks” into your favorite internet search engine and read some of the information that is available.
You should then be able to make an informed decision that best suits your desires.
Create one of each and play them through an entry level, then pick the one you enjoy the most.
I am currently leveling a Necro and have enjoyed it very much. I have good survivability and power output both ranged and melee.
I have an Elementalist, but I haven’t really focused on him for a while. I have not created a Mesmer so I have no experience with them in this game.
I prefer the Necro over the Thief because it fits my play style better. I found the the Thief to be lacking in survivability in the early levels but I’m probably playing it wrong.
For my Necro I’m using the build posted by Sheobix as my template.

This build has great survivability and damage output.
Here is a work-around that worked for me.
Open game options —> select Graphics tab —> change Environment option to Medium or higher.

Discovered same problem on Sorrow’s Furnace.
It’s apparently an issue with the graphics environment low resolution setting. With the environment setting set to low the models will not appear.
I had to set my environment setting to medium for models to appear.

Are you verifying your map completion against a known good source such as Guild Wars 2 Wiki?
If not, I highly recommend doing so. It helped me several times in finding a missing heart or undiscovered area.
